Video: Lamont recruits Paul Newman for campaign ad

Lame:

He may be a great actor, but he is most certainly not good at campaigning.

MKH sums it up:

“Vote for Ned Lamo-zzzzzzz. Urg, sorry, what was I saying? Zzzzzz.” I’m just not feeling the passion, there.

Update (Allahpundit): Worth a thousand words — the Freshmaker, besieged by Lieberman supporters at a campaign stop earlier today:

Young, fresh, and spunky?

That sounds like something having to do with Mark Foley!

venmax on November 3, 2006 at 5:36 PM

LOL. It’s funny, but I’ve seen more Lamont yard signs in Mass and Vermont than I have in Connecticut.

Farmer_Joe on November 3, 2006 at 5:38 PM

“Young, fresh, and spunky”?

You are quite the picture of that Paul!

Stick with the pasta sauce and salad dressing.

infidel4life on November 3, 2006 at 5:47 PM

Wrong Newman. Was Alfred E. not available?

fogw on November 3, 2006 at 5:48 PM

I was hoping this would be the one ad we wouldn’t see Ned Lamont’s serious looking fact saying “I approve this message”.

Ian on November 3, 2006 at 5:49 PM

…looks like old Paul wants to hitch his wagon to the sinking ship before it goes under. Maybe he’s a rat in reverse.

…great geopolitical thinkers, these actors.

…before anyone lights me up for “they’re citizens and they have freedom of speech and can endorse whom they want!”, allow me to point out that *I* have free speech, but no-bloody-body give a flying squirrel what I say…so Lamont or some other candidate on his way to oblivion is going to court me for an ad…no should they. Who cares what I think?

(…this being your queue to raise your hands, by the way…)

If he’s using his celebrity, it isn’t free speech…it’s enhanced speech. They have an enhanced ability to have their say based upon their professional connections and customer recognition. That isn’t free speech. That’s commercial speech.

Puritan1648 on November 3, 2006 at 5:52 PM

Oh, come on! Newman is what? Eighty? You should be so lucky to live that long.

EF on November 3, 2006 at 5:55 PM

Hm… I’m not sure that’s someplace I’d wanna go. Blogs – especially blogs with name recognition and/or money behind them (::cough::cough::MM::cough::) are “enhanced speech” too.

Farmer_Joe on November 3, 2006 at 5:57 PM

Is he still calling for a nuclear freeze? What a loser.

Zorro on November 3, 2006 at 6:08 PM

Damn he looks old.

vcferlita on November 3, 2006 at 6:10 PM

Paul Newman gets a pass from me.
At 80 he raced in the 2005 24 hour Race at Daytona.
He is the epitome of cool.

harrison on November 3, 2006 at 6:11 PM

Young, fresh, and spunky?!?!

Sheesh. That sounds like what you look for in a stripper, not a senator. Please…

EFG on November 3, 2006 at 6:17 PM

Even demented, Newman does sell some great food products.

Valiant on November 3, 2006 at 6:21 PM

Think you used enough Ambien there, Butch?

Mark V. on November 3, 2006 at 6:22 PM

What we got heyah, is a FAILURE tah communicate!

Some men, you just can’t reach…

Paul Newman needs to just shut up and make salad dressing.

SilverStar830 on November 3, 2006 at 6:23 PM

Paul just shutup. Go home and ride a bike

Wade on November 3, 2006 at 6:25 PM

AP, that update picture is worth 10,000 words. The Lieberman camp should put it to good use.

Entelechy on November 3, 2006 at 6:27 PM

Sheesh, I didn’t follow my own advice :(

Ian, not AP – I love you too Ian!

Entelechy on November 3, 2006 at 6:29 PM

OK, I need a margarita, it was AP’s update – I love you both, sincerely,

Entelechy on November 3, 2006 at 6:31 PM

Why not use “Cool Hand Luke” at this point? Lamont’s got nothing to win the election with, so he might as well rely on “A handful o’ nuthin” to pin his hopes for victory on.

Spurius Ligustinus on November 3, 2006 at 6:36 PM

That Lamont pic is crying out for a caption contest.

infidel4life on November 3, 2006 at 6:46 PM

Freshmaker looks a bit nervous in the crowd there – like he thinks he’s going to be lynched. He’s obviously intimidated his own supporters aren’t as passionate. As for Newman, who can honestly care what that has-been has to say anyway? Even his salad dressing is dull.

thedecider on November 3, 2006 at 6:49 PM

Money wasted…….I don’t think that one of the ACLU’s biggest contributors is going to sway any of Joe’s voters away.

Limerick on November 3, 2006 at 6:55 PM

Is it just me, or does Ned remind you of Beeker from the muppets? From now on, I will know him as Beeker.

thedecider on November 3, 2006 at 7:00 PM

Young, fresh, and spunky?!?!

and add the “freshmaker” – poor Newman thought he was making a commercial for his new salad dressing and salsa.

Rick on November 3, 2006 at 7:09 PM

That Lamont pic is crying out for a caption contest.

infidel4life on November 3, 2006 at 6:46 PM

“I’m Ned Lamont and I approve this message”.

Entelechy on November 3, 2006 at 7:34 PM

“Doesn’t anyone here know who I am? Waaaahhhh!”

infidel4life on November 3, 2006 at 7:41 PM

I’m submitting that from now on he shall be called ’spunky’.

I prefer to remember Paul as the protagonist in Exodus.

EF on November 3, 2006 at 8:28 PM

I prefer to remember Paul using too much dynamite in BC & the SK. Something we’re not using enough of in Mesopotamia.

sbvft contributor on November 3, 2006 at 8:58 PM

Paul stumping for Greg Kinnear .

I’d say Paul is the better actor. Much better.

Texyank on November 3, 2006 at 9:21 PM

The good boys club of what party?

That was really, really dumb. Bye 15.7 million, Ned!

Christoph on November 3, 2006 at 9:27 PM

Blogs – especially blogs with name recognition and/or money behind them (::cough::cough::MM::cough::) are “enhanced speech” too.

…nope…missed the point…it’s not the venue, it’s the person speaking.

We don’t speak her for any of that money, do we…and if we do, where’s my check?!

Enhanced freedom of speech, as I used it, means that some folks have, by virtue of who they are — by achievement, acclaim, or promotion — get guarenteed listeners…giving more weight to what they have to say.

…the rest of us have to get by on *what we say*, not *who we are*…and our looks, o’course….

Puritan1648 on November 3, 2006 at 10:55 PM

He looks better on his dressing bottle.

right2bright on November 3, 2006 at 10:56 PM

Why not use “Cool Hand Luke” at this point? Lamont’s got nothing to win the election with…

…heard from the Lamont camp on the 8th: “What we got heeeeeere…is a failure to communicate….”

Puritan1648 on November 3, 2006 at 10:57 PM

What we got heyah, is a FAILURE tah communicate!

SilverStar830 on November 3, 2006 at 6:23 PM

LMAO!

Liberal bloggers going nuts at their own ‘darlings’ in the democrat party.

An open letter to Mr. Obama posted on the Daily Kos blog (www.dailykos.com) implored him to do all he can to defeat Mr. Lieberman.
“Why you would want to spend another day in the Senate with the duplicitous, war-mongering Joe Lieberman is beyond me,” the author wrote.

“We have all been angry for some years now about being stabbed in the back by the Democratic Party in Washington,” liberal blogger Sandra Yolles wrote in the comment field to Mr. Stoller’s post. “We are angry that they have not fought for our values, for our ideals, for our Constitution, for honest elections, for the people who elected them.”

Ms. Yolles added, “We must not let them continue to think they can get away with the lie — the lie that they are representing us.”

Entelechy on November 4, 2006 at 12:51 AM

Between Kerry and Lamont, the anti-war thingie isn’t really working out for the new Dems on the far Left and a geriatric Paul Newman isn’t going to help.
Wonder how much of Lamont’s $15 million went to Newman?
Either the man’s not well or his heart just isn’t in it, because it was one of Newman’s worst performances.

Sad. Long live Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy.
Most of us have known about Paul and Joanne’s Liberal Leftie bent for some time.
Betcha it made Lieberman sad, though…just one more betrayal by a former friend (?).

Jen the Neocon on November 4, 2006 at 1:26 AM

It’s too late for anything Newman had to say to make a difference. Lamont is doomed.
