Saudi gang-rape trial ends with 90 lashes — for the victim

Yeah, you know, maybe it’s time for us to rethink that ban on comments about nuking Mecca. Via Captain Ed:
A Saudi court has sentenced a gang rape victim to 90 lashes of the whip because she was alone in a car with a man to whom she was not married…
The court heard that the victim and her friend were followed by the assailants to their car, kidnapped and taken to a remote farm, where the raping occurred.
She got 90 lashes, one of the rapists got 80. This is the same country that’s at the top of the page at Drudge right now because they’re hot for nukes. As Steyn famously said, “It’s at the intersection of apparently indestructible ancient ignorance and cheap, widely available western technology that the dark imponderables of the future lie.”
Speaking of rape and indestructible ignorance, how’s Sheikh Hilali? Remember him, the Aussie rape mufti? He’s currently serving a three-month suspension from giving sermons at his mosque. Except that, um, he’s not:
Sheik Taj Aldin al-Hilali, mufti of Australia since 1989, had apologized last week for any offense he caused to women and then agreed with the Lakemba Mosque’s administrators to take three months off from preaching as outraged politicians called for his resignation.
But the 65-year-old native of Egypt appeared for noon prayers at the mosque Friday, Muslims’ sabbath, and preached for two hours. Jubilant worshippers carried him on their shoulders.
The Australian government is now thinking about doing away with “multiculturalism.”
Muslim feminists are meeting this weekend in Barcelona to address the various permutations of misogyny in the Middle East. Quote: “It is one thing for sexism to exist in a country on a social level - as it does in Spain and Italy - and quite another to approve discriminatory laws against women that forbid them to go out and condemn them to harsh punishments such as whipping if they disobey.”
In Gaza, the heroic mujahedeen are, almost literally, hiding behind their skirts. With predictable consequences.
Update: Jihadis in Iraq have introduced the “Abeer” rocket, named after the 14-year-old girl allegedly raped and murdered by U.S. troops. To be used against Americans? Well, it’s a little broader than that:
“We called it ‘Abeer’ to remind the Islamic nation of the wounds of our sister … whose virginity was violated by the worshippers of the cross,” the Islamic Army, said in a statement posted together with the footage on a Web site frequently used by insurgent groups to publish announcements.
“Worshippers of the cross” was an apparent reference to Christians.

…yet another window into the soul of Islam. The prosecutor probably used the “uncovered meat” gambit at the trial….
As to the Steyn quote, I remember reading about an odd cultural feature, the 21st Century meets the 7th: Saudis subscribing to a cellphone texting list to be notified of the time and place of beheadings.
…it’s like givin’ a chimp a laser pointer…doesn’t do the chimp any good, and somebody’s gonna get hurt….

No real surprise about the Saudi’s.
No real surprise about the multicultural imam in Australia.
The only real surprise that I have is how many who have eyes to see and ears to hear can even entertain the thought that we are engaged in anything less than a war to preserve our civilization (freedoms, imperfections, and all).
I only pray (as a worshipper of the Cross) that the mass majority can wake up before it is too late.
Otherwise, the alternative is too terrible to contemplate.
While speaking about multiculturalism, however, what do you think about the idea of a Mahmoud Ahmadinejad cartoon contest where entrants submit their favorite cartoon renditions of the primary proponent of the “religion of peace”?
I’m not sure what a really appropriate prize would be, though -
any ideas?

Those people live in Superman’s Bizarro World, where everything is backwards. I’m not the least bit surprised by any of this. Is anyone? Truly, I am not the least bit appalled or taken aback by this news. Long ago I’ve come to expect this from the Muslim World every bit as much as I expect the Sun will rise and the Earth will spin each day.
I used to be depply appalled by this sort of thing, but now, it’s little more than a sad epitaph in the day in the life of a 21st Century Muslim. “Most Muslims” would rather do nothing about this sort of thing, and it’s not happening in America, so why should anyone give a damn… other than to put our hearts and souls into keeping that sort of thing from our soil. Let the Muslims fix their own problems, if they dare.
No, really… “Most Muslims” are okee dokee folk… really
Believe it or else!
SilverStar830 on November 4, 2006 at 12:22 AM
So, Muslims say killing gays is OK, it’s OK to rape women (meat after all), and in fact they will be punished if they are raped…
And the left hates GWB because???

I’ll say it again: I blame Islam. A backward religion that oppresses entire populations, forever holding them back from progressing beyond their opressive lifestyles. Of course, it’s a woman so naturally, it’s her fault. Typical Muslim response. The reason their societies are so backward, impoverished, and ignorant.

Speaking of possible spoofs, The Australian article on the word “multiculturalism” is a hoot, Allahpundit.
Multiculturalism 2: The Integrator. So, in Australia, you can create antonyms by appending the number 2 after a name?
Makes sense.
Kevin on November 4, 2006 at 1:11 AM
Instead of that, I’d like to suggest a program of sending rape victims like this poor woman either to Israel or the UNited States for counciling. I’m sure the muslim nations wouldn’t mind sending us their ‘harlots’ and ‘jezzebels’ and those asinine feminists might actually be able to help real abused women. Any takers?

Mmm, dark imponderables, now with 65% cacao. Here’s one: Environmental activists who hate “urban sprawl” and real estate speculators who love urban sprawl would both do well to try to imagine the effect that two terrorist nukes in close succession will have everyone’s choice of address.
Kralizec on November 4, 2006 at 3:48 AM
Islam would still be an expanding wave, even with a glassy crater at its center. Mecca is far away, while we have mosques and muslims close at hand, in every Western city. Nevertheless, I imagine comments supportive of thinking globally and destroying locally remain off limits for the time being. So although it’s plain that one can more quickly correct a growing demographic imbalance by killing than by conceiving, I’ll go on prudently declaring the penis mightier than the sword.
Kralizec on November 4, 2006 at 4:13 AM
Why do you have a ban on comments about nuking Mecca?
That’s a serious question. Why the ban? What’s the rationale for it?
I don’t support nuking Mecca. I think it’s a daft idea. But this blog discusses military matters, responses, etc., all the time.
Why the ban on one such option?

Tony737 on November 4, 2006 at 5:38 AM
Think of it as a “Howlers Unwelcome” sign. You know how every time the muzzies do something stupid, comment boards start filling up with “Nuke Mecca” and “Kill them all” rhetoric? This one doesn’t.
Pablo on November 4, 2006 at 6:50 AM
In a war with enemies determined to destroy our civilization, destroying theirs instead is a valid topic of conversation.
It may one day come to that.
I don’t call for nuking Mecca… and I don’t deny that one day in a total war that may be one of the decisions to be made.
Before the end of this struggle, we will lose cities. When that happens, I don’t want us to be the only one.
The question will be which enemy cities to destroy and considering these questions early makes sense.
I’d argue against Mecca, but… am willing to listen to those who disagree.
Christoph on November 4, 2006 at 7:15 AM
Nuking Mecca isn’t the answer. Sure, it would be fun, we might even feel better for a day or two. The idea of the savages praying towards a glowing burned out hole in the ground makes me all warm and happy inside too.
However, to say “Nuke Mecca” is dumb. It’s like saying Catholics are evil, lets nuke the Vatican. Nuking the Vatican doesn’t solve anything. It just pisses them off.
Mecca, like the Vatican, is just a symbol. And as a symbol it’s not the problem, it’s just associated with the problem. The problem is the 1st Century AD, misogynistic, violent teaching from the backward religion of peace.
Islam needs to either reject violence as a tenant of religion, or it is going to boil down to them against the world. (not that we aren’t close now)
E L Frederick on November 4, 2006 at 8:05 AM
ELF, we’re already there. Unfortunately, the “world” seems to consist of only the US, Australia and (perhaps) Germany, with a few bench players from Eastern Europe. And after next Tuesday, we’ll likely be down to two starters.
SailorDave on November 4, 2006 at 8:21 AM
The answer is clear, and something I’ve been advocating since the start of the GWOT: We need to be dropping crates filled with bacon, booze and porn all over the Muslim world. Let the average Ahmet on the street get a taste of what he’s been missing. Once he’s kicking back in his barcalounger washing a bacon cheddar burger down with a frosty Sam Adams, and watching a naked, undulating Jenna Jameson, I don’t think he’s going to take the Friday “Death to America” sermon quite so seriously.
Farmer_Joe on November 4, 2006 at 8:39 AM
So Allah, The Somewhat Astute, now realizes that mushrooms may be cultivated in The Rather-Unholy City. Cousin Enola would approve.
More seriously: If nuking Mecca would reduce enemy capabilities and render them harmless, then it is something that may be considered. If it would not so reduce and render, then it should be rejected out of hand. Same principle applies to all other tactics/strategy/logistics as well.
Make no mistake, we are in a struggle for our very survival.
Dhimmitude is a fatal poison. The instructions to jihadists
are to do nasty things to us until “they (meaning ‘we’) consider themselves subdued”. We will win when they finally understand that that will not happen because it cannot happen. Therefore I estimate that physical military prowess is best utilized to give cover to PSYOP which I think will be the winning tool.
I cannot see any jihadist military target worthy of a nuke. A psychological target might well be a different story.

Until the American people finish the war here at home we will never finish the war there. The biggest change in all western governments is the change from ‘the people are responsible for their own governments’ to ‘we are against the regime but not the people’.
Technology has given us a false reliance on ‘the surgical strike, smart bombs, perfect intelligence.
Hollywood has given us the false impression that ‘real-men’ can fight wars without hurting innocent people.
Sorry….war is death, destruction, chaos. Either yours or your enemies.
Here we have two sets of people. The first set want to give George Patton a green light. The second set think that Jack Bauer will save us all.
We don’t have to nuke, but we do need to be willing to inflict enough damage on an enemy society to cause that enemy to waiver and fall. It isn’t pretty, clean, neat.
We do not want war, but if we are going to fight it then we need to be able to accept the results. Right now America can’t. Until it can there will be no victory.

I still say that the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad cartoon contest would be a great answer to the problem. Saves nukes, saves excessive waste of effort…
And if that doesn’t work - Perhaps we could run Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for office in America, seeing as we seem to have so many of his supporters and apologists here.
Humor aside, realize that we are in a war to save our values, culture, and civilization..all that makes us - us!

My heart really felt for those girls that are making their own anti-rape belts in Sweden : Swedish girls design anti-rape belt Thx AZRed.
Is this our future? Our own teenage, and younger, girls desperately trying to protect themselves? OR, the victims being

shooter on November 4, 2006 at 12:16 PM
Victims already are punished more than the perpetrators of their crimes here. The future’s arrived, and it isn’t always pretty.
Sad, isn’t it, that we, who won World War II, have created a death apparatus (and mind set) that would have made Hitler and the rest of his henchmen proud - and that it’s done in the name of “rights”.
We don’t need eugenics - we’ve been doing the enemy’s work for them by destroying ourselves from within - morally and otherwise. All while being overrun from without - just like Rome “back in the day”.
A kinder phrase would be collective societal suicide.
Emmett J. on November 4, 2006 at 12:30 PM
I used to be on the nuke Mecca bandwagon. Well, actually it was the nuke Medina first just to show your serious bandwagon wich consisted entirely of myself. Everwidening proliferation of nuclear technology in the mideast is going to make that line of thinking obsolete in a decade or two. In all likelyhood the Jihadist are gonna nuke each other in a sunni/shia brawl at some point.

Farmer Joe, I don’t completely discount the good effects of acquainting people with American or Western pop culture, but that hasn’t been enough in Europe, at least according to Mark Steyn’s account. The Muslim youth there are quite assimilated in regard to such things as food, clothing, and music; none of that has prevented the riots, killings, and rapes.
