HuffPo: “Obsession” is a “conservative film”

posted at 9:50 am on November 3, 2006 by Allahpundit

Because, you see, it won an award at the Libertas Film Festival. Oh, and because Fox is airing it this weekend, right before the election.

Thankfully, CNN would never stoop to such shameless politicking so close to a vote.

Here’s the 12-minute trailer at the Obsession home page. There was no earthly reason why, on 9/11, a film like this should come to be seen as “conservative” five years later. But it is, by HuffPo’s own description.

In fairness, I should note that I do know at least one Democrat who owns the DVD.

But there aren’t too many like her around anymore.

Update: Via Slublog, here are the key demographics CNN has chosen for its state-snapshot vote pages. This one comes from the New York page.

ny-cnn2.png

Update: Upcoming at the next Libertas Festival — “This Is DNN,” featuring clips from Michael Moore’s 1942 propaganda masterpiece, “Fahrenheit 12/7.”

It just shows that many on the Left are in complete denial about the nature, severity and seriousness of the threat.

TheBigOldDog on November 3, 2006 at 9:55 AM

What took FOX so long to air this?

MarkyX on November 3, 2006 at 10:00 AM

lol….And if I need brain surgery, I’m going to sign onto Zsa Zsa Gabor’s blog……dahlink.

Left_Behind on November 3, 2006 at 10:04 AM

CNN, engage in politics?

Never.

I’m sure their posting of “Service Personnel Killed in Iraq/Afghanistan **” on each state election site is just an informational bulletin for our benefit. (right side, bottom)

Slublog on November 3, 2006 at 10:06 AM

Of *COURSE* it’s conservative.

Because objective truth is conservative.

Nice to see liberals admit that they aren’t exactly bosom buddies with “reality” any more.

Professor Blather on November 3, 2006 at 10:08 AM

By the way … scary movie.

Professor Blather on November 3, 2006 at 10:09 AM

What took FOX so long to air this?

MarkyX on November 3, 2006 at 10:00 AM

Because Rove told them not to until the weekend before the election. Or was it Cheney………….

Don’t you get it??

LOL

BacaDog on November 3, 2006 at 10:11 AM

And a final point: isn’t it really strange (and really funny) that liberals call it propaganda when we just publicize ISLAMIC propaganda?

How is just showing exactly what the Islamo-nutjobs are saying and doing … propaganda?

Liberals must really get annoyed by factual truth.

Professor Blather on November 3, 2006 at 10:13 AM

Okay, another last last point. I’m watching the preview now, and the part with the adorable 6-year old girl screaming “I’ll turn into a suicide warrior” is playing …

… and if you ain’t scared – if you’re willing to concede defeat – if you don’t think there’s blood on the moon – you just ain’t paying attention.

1936 just became 1937. But surely that nice little German fella doesn’t mean what he’s saying …

Professor Blather on November 3, 2006 at 10:17 AM

I am voting so hard on Tuesday.

Savage on November 3, 2006 at 10:17 AM

Actually, now that it’s been revealed that 9 out of 10 terrorists vote Democratic–according to a recent Zogby poll–you can make the argument that Obsession is really liberal propaganda.

ahem on November 3, 2006 at 10:18 AM

Liberals must really get annoyed by factual truth.
Professor Blather on November 3, 2006 at 10:13 AM

Ditto to that. Also, I saw a bit of an interview with Mr. Shoebat, the former PLO terrorist, on tv the other day, and he brought up the issue of “hudna” (spelling?) I read about it before, prob. in a Robert Spencer book, but essentially, Muhammed taught that it was not necessary to EVER honor treaties formed with infidels. Form them only to use the time to regroup, get stronger. Use that time to let the infidels think that peace has come. Then break them and bring the true justice of Allah upon them. Our statesmen/women should keep this in mind whenever they push for more peace treaties in the Palestinian region. Look at the past. Which ones have they honored? If any, it won’t be a long list.

“Most Muslims do not support terror. This is not a film about them.”

Let’s keep that in mind.

GregH on November 3, 2006 at 10:31 AM

It’s conservative only in that it tells the truth about the real threat to western civilization by Islam. Facts are facts, and the truth is difficult for liberals to accept.

RightWinged on November 3, 2006 at 10:42 AM

GregH,

“Most” is a bullshit copout adjective. When you can say “No” instead of most, then I’ll start considering the second sentence.

here’s an example: NO Christians support terror. For if they do, then they are NOT Christian.

¿See how it works?

Fogpig on November 3, 2006 at 10:42 AM

Fogpig. First of all, I was merely quoting a line from the trailer. If you had watched it, maybe you would have noticed.

Secondly:

NO Christians support terror. For if they do, then they are NOT Christian.

Really? You may want to rethink that. Remember McVeigh, that nice Catholic boy? What about the death squads in Latin America? Pretty large concentration of Christians down there as well…

Don’t throw stones at another religion while you paint broad strokes of praise for your own.

GregH on November 3, 2006 at 10:49 AM

GregH, are you insane? Through your comments you make the case so clear that liberals are not serious about the Islamic threat. I urge you, for the sake of your friends and family, to educate yourself to the serious threat that Islamicfascism presents. It’s not too late. This country must be united to battle these seventh century lunatics with 21st century weapons.

from the huffpo comments:

Lemme guess, the movie portrays Republicans as pure and holy as the driven snow while Democrats and Islamofascists engage in illegal gay marriage ceremonies after wild abortion orgies.

uh, no. in fact it strikes no party political position whatsoever. like none. the only correlation between left and right and the content of this movie is that the utterly refuses to take any part of the jihadist threat seriously.

jummy on November 3, 2006 at 11:10 AM

GregH

If you would have paid attention to what Fogpig wrote it would have been clear that a Christian that supports terror is not a Christian, he may think he is but in reality he is not. And i am sure that 98% of the people that Believe they are Christian would agree. Do you think that the Muslim % would be that high in saying that Osama is a radical?

One other thing that gets me about Liberals like you….When Japan bomb Pearl Harbor, what did the liberals do to Japanese Americans here? Now that we have been attacked again and the attack was not a military target you want even let us do racial profiling at the airports. It boggles my mind that when your type is in power you can do anything you want without question but when the RIGHT PEOPLE are in power you question everything. I just don’t get it.

Puritan1648 on November 3, 2006 at 12:14 PM

“Most Muslims do not support terror. This is not a film about them.”

That disclaimer is the films producer’s polite way of pacifying people like GregH. For if “Most Muslims” did not support terror, “Most Muslims” would speak out, “Most Muslims” would condemn, and “Most Muslims” work fervently to prevent terror… to stop it from perpetuating.

But they do not. In my eyes and ears, I see and hear nothing from “Most Muslims”. But for just a small handful of the MULTI-MILLIONS OF MUSLIMS, there is no speaking out. There is no acting out against Jihadi Terrorists who read the same ‘holy’ book as “Most Muslims”, who pray in the same way as “Most Muslims”, who worship the same blood-thirsty murderous HATEFUL God as “Most Muslims”.

Most Muslims do not support terror? Oh, but they do, they just aren’t raving lunatics. They may seceretly enjoy what they see their fellow Muslims doing. They may rejoice quietly, in private. It may be “Most Muslims” are thankful someone else is doing all the dirty work for them, so they’re content standing on the sidelines quietly rooting for the home team. Their religious leaders the world over speak publicly in calling for death to everything we believe in, including us and our children.

Until the day “Most Muslims” rise up and speak out and take up their own ‘jihad’ AGAINST terror, I will believe that to my dying day. Which may be sooner than wanted at the hands of “Most Muslims” who sit idley by condoning terror and murder of innocent men, women, and children by their utter and complete lack of action against it. For “Most Muslims” to refuse to speak out and act out enmass against their so-called MUSLIM BROTHERS murderous rampage of death and desturction against anyone and everyone not like them, world-wide, makes them just as culpable and far more deeply responsible than they’d like you to believe.

“Most Muslims do not support terror” is a ginormous crock of shit and anyone who believes different is an utter and complete fool.

Anything that doesn’t proclaim that Islam is a religion of peace and that televangelists are just as bad as jihadists is considered conservative these days.

tommy1 on November 3, 2006 at 12:46 PM

The broadcast networks, CNN and MSNBC have been in full-tilt obsession for the past two weeks, their obsession focusing on the incompetence of the Bush administration and promoting every leftwing candidate running for office.

We’ve suffered through the Fahrenheit 9/11 farce, a movie about assassinating not just a president, but our current sitting president, George Clooney’s movie version of evil Americans (and Jews) trampling on Arab human rights, documentaries on the life story of UBL and how our foreign policy turned him into the architect of 9/11, and on, and on.

So this makes the score what? THEM: 247, US: 1.

Dishing it out …. “The public has a right to know our version of the truth.”

Getting it back …. “Hey, look at how biased Fox news is!”

I’m trying to figure it out. Are THEY a just a big joke or a big botched joke?

fogw on November 3, 2006 at 12:49 PM

Obsession demonstrates the threat of radical Islam by primarily showing the jihadists’ own hate propaganda.

For some reason, the left seems to think that the jihadists who, among other things, have slaughtered the Hazari Shiite population of Afghanistan, detonated the Golden Mosque of Samarra, and who are currently gang-raping and slaughtering black Muslims in Darfur, somehow represent a legitimate voice of Islamic oppression.

It really shouldn’t be a partisan issue, but sadly, it is.

All Muslims defend the same death cult that the terrorists fight in the name of. And all but a handful are perfectly happy to do absolutely nothing to renounce the terrorists while they fight in their name.

Lazarus on November 3, 2006 at 2:29 PM

GregH (who posts here to pander his stupid website which I have not visited):

You’re right, the muzzie jihadists are only a “tiny minority” of a peace loving people, and most muzzies do not support terror. And everybody with a brain knows that muslims are against this type of thing, as they’ve been continuously speaking out against it, having countless protest marches against terrorist activities, forming their own task forces to root out such extremists, cooperating on all fronts with the authorities in multiple countries, opening their mosques for investigators, not hindering investigations in any way, refraining from raising money supporting such groups, speaking praises on efforts to hunt down such extremists, passing out lollipops and kittens, and singing Kumbaya on an endless loop.

Andy in Agoura Hills on November 3, 2006 at 2:41 PM

I have to agree with silver star 830. ‘Most muslims’ are sitting back waiting to see how this jihad deal shakes out before they declare which side they’re on. When mohammed’s minions are marching down your street, don’t be surprised to see Khaled from the gas station and Achmed from the 711 among their ranks. I’ve watched ‘Obsession’ six or seven times. Every time I get a friend to watch, I sit through it again. It’s important that as many people as possible see it. Over.

Five letters. MEMRI. If you’ve been on memri.org none of this is news. I’ve come to the point now where I feel, why argue with people? In five years, maybe even in three years if the Dems get control of Congress, who will be arguing? Look, if the Dutch get it, who doesn’t get it? And why do the Dutch get it? Theo van Gogh almost lost his head. I can’t believe how the feminists and gays have let the left throw them under PC Islamophile bus. It was better under Sadaam? HAH! Not for gays–not for women. Let Olbermann (Ubermann?) be an apologist for Islamofascism. Blacks are looking with new eyes at Michael Steele, because the Maryland Dems have thrown them under the bus. It seems incredible, but if the Dems don’t change, one day the feminists, and even the gays will see that Republicans are theie best bet. Because only the Republicans respect the Constitution which does in fact guarantee them life, liberty, etc., and will protect them from the depradations of Islamofascism. How the worm do turn.

smellthecoffee on November 3, 2006 at 3:03 PM

A “conservative” program? I don’t see it. It’s clearly stated at the beginning that the jihadists don’t represent a majority of Islam. I wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar on 60 Minutes, albeit without the overly dramatic title cards and music.
