Corporations don’t care so much about the political status quo, they care about consistent income. That is the only thing a corporation is supposed to be concerned with. To the extent changes in the status quo influence that consistent income, they care. But not for political reasons.

Corporations spend an average of 43% of their annual budgets on advertising. They try to be careful where that money is spent, believe it or not. If they can identify air time that is unproductive, they will request that their advert slots don’t occur during that time. It can’t be any simpler.

An analogy using a billboard should help. I have money to get one billboard put up for my product. I have a choice of placing it alongside Interstate 5 in the San Fernando Valley, or along the Taft Highway (SR119) outside of Dustin Acres. One road gets hundreds of thousands of vehicles on it each day, the other perhaps hundreds. Air America is the Dustin Acres of radio. These are folks *risking other peoples’ money*. They’re both legally and — dare I say it in connection with a corporation — morally liable.

And you think corporate money or government money should be spent on causes they don’t support? So if you support a candidate you would send money to his opponent? Corporations work in the future, un-predictability (is that a word?) makes it difficult to plan ten years out. Stability is an asset, not a liability.

It’s really rather simple, Greggy. Corporations don’t like to support leftist ASSHOLES. Given the hostility of said leftist assholes towards corporations, can you blame them?

A more accurate observation, GregH, is that advertisors of reputable companies steer their advertising dollars away from networks that employ people like Randi Rhoades who threaten the President on air.

Why?

Well, because it’s disgusting, and it’s also bad for business with patriotic (or merely decent) Americans. Or simply Republicans.

Bank of America, et al., do business in the red states you must concede.

Exactly. This is Econ 101 stuff, at least for people who believe in capitalism and a free market. A company has a finite amount of money to spend on advertising. Common sense dictates that they spend it in the way that they think will be most effective to promote their business. The key words being “the way that they think”–it’s not “the way that GregH thinks” or “the way that the Democratic party thinks”. It’s their company’s money, they can spend it anywhere they choose to. And if Air America produced a product that anyone wanted (ooh, there’s that pesky capitalism again), people would buy it. Funny how there are ads for CNN, the Dixie Chicks, and other liberal causes on Hot Air’s website–apparent those advertisers feel that if you want to sell something, you have to go where the customers are. Personally I think it’s stupid marketing on their part, because if we were ignorant enough to believe their leftist drivel, we’d already be liberals. But hey, I’m happy to see them spend their money here.

Does the fact that liberals get so snippy about nobody wanting to advertise on their dead airspace (okay, let’s be fair, dead airspace would be more intelligent) mean that we can expect an addition to the “Fairness” Doctrine if they ever get back into power? I’m sure they’d salivate at the thought of not only being able to inflict programming that nobody wants to listen to onto the public, but also being able to force advertisers to pay for it.

After all, the success stories of the corporate world are a spitting image of the folks John Fn Kerry encouraged his liberal college cult following to emulate. (FLIP) That is, if you’re not Microsoft or Walmart, in which case Kerry and friends will make sure the justice department investigates you with false charges long enough to portray corporate America as evil money grubbers out to take away the homes of the middle class.
