Video: Civil war erupts on the View
posted at 3:52 pm on November 1, 2006 by Allahpundit
The best show on television, bar none.
…Torn apart by an unpopular war.
A war known as … Kerrygate.
We have to get Hasselbeck to do a guest shot on Vent.
Update: Note to Joy Behar: Rumsfeld served in the Navy for three years.
Update: Katie Couric would fit right in.
Update: Seixon fact-checks the View.

Heh.
Allah watches “The View.”
*snicker*
Slublog on November 1, 2006 at 3:53 PM
Sorry for posting this again, but I think it’s a newsworthy quote.
From the Imus appearance this morning, approx. 6:40 in…
… the quotable Kerry:
I see, so it’s the U.S. military that is the problem. There are simply too many of them. And this creates terrorists and jihadists.
The ladies on the View, with one gorgeous inside and out exception, cannot compare to the ladies on the VENT!
Christoph on November 1, 2006 at 3:55 PM
You better get the Boss to pony up that cash to pay ABC for the guest appearance.
Editor on November 1, 2006 at 3:56 PM
“Everyone knows!”
Why do I watch this stuff when it just irritates me. Grumble grumble. (*Insert sexist comment here*).
Happy to hear some of the audience actually applauding at the pro-Bush comments.

BirdEye on November 1, 2006 at 4:00 PM
This shit pisses me off… like with the Daily Show, Letterman, etc. it’s the audience applause that really gets me mad. Who are these people? I hope tomorrow Elizabeth smacks these bitches with the facts.. that these aren’t “Bush Republicans” attacking Kerry over this. It’s pretty much everyone.

Poor Hasselbeck. It must be sheer hell having to work with Porky-O-donut and Joy (I want to be Bette Middler) Behar.

Seriously though…I don’t know why I watch these clips…it infuriates me infinitely…notice how Joy Bewhore has to always talk over and interrupt Hasselbeck.
If I had to sit between those two pigs every morning I would have become a Muslim, due to my abhorrence of pork.

Did Rosie just say October lost the “most troops ever”? Giving her the benefit of the doubt, that her remarks are limited to the present conflict with Iraq, and not really “ever” she is still wrong:
nailinmyeye on November 1, 2006 at 4:06 PM
Damn!! lost my post.
Having her do a guest shot on Vent is a great idearr (as Kerry would say). It also gives her a chance to work with people that have a clue – would be nice for a change.

I vote for “Spew!”
Anyone else agree? They have one diamond in amongst the lumps of coal there.
In a previous post on here..didn’t it mention that Kennedy wanted to offer up the services of Barbara Walters to the U.S.S.R. to bring the American people over to their side? Looks like he knew what he was talking about..
Alilshy on November 1, 2006 at 4:10 PM
Hey AP – I guess you watch this crap so I don’t have to… I would also like to point out that Bush WAS NOT A DRAFT DODGER. Some crazy military guy actually taught him how to fly a jet and then let him do it for several years in a row!!!
Babs on November 1, 2006 at 4:13 PM
I was at a public ceremony to remember Red Auerbach in Boston this afternoon and witnessed enthusiastic applause for Ted (the swimmer) Kennedy, Democratic Mayor of Boston Tom “Mumbles” Menino and then boos and catcall for Governor Romney and Lieutenant Governor Healey.
“Who are these people?” was the question I was asking myself as well.
Corky on November 1, 2006 at 4:13 PM
Finally, Elizabeth got a word in.
Glad to see that Joy still thinks that the National Guard troops were a bunch of “draft dodgers”. I guess in her mind service isn’t service unless you served on a boat……in Vietnam…….in Cambodia…….at Christmastime.
What hypocrites. From 1992 until 2000, the words “draft dodger” never crossed their lips because their idol Billy Boy ran off to the UK in order to avoid the selective service call. Now, they’re so righteous in their indignation that those who served, but not in the regular forces, are suspect.
God I hope we win Tuesday.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it should be mentioned.

Babs on November 1, 2006 at 4:17 PM
The sad thing about the View and shows like it is that way too many people form their opinions entirely from the crazy ravings of some of these hosts/guests. There is absolutely NO fact-checking involved. Most of my family, including my oldest son, just spout the things they hear on Letterman or the View or similar shows, without looking INTO the matter.
So why is this? Are we that much of a culture of instant gratification, 30 second sound bytes, so involved with our lives that we can’t take any interest in investigating things for ourselves?
I trust the HotAir staff (well, except for AP’s foolish notions on football), but even so, I always follow links; I’ll google for info, (wish I had Lexus-Nexus), I listen to talk-radio, I watch the news, I think for myself.
Aiya.

Allah, you sick, sick bastard.
I opened this thread for one reason: to thank you for at least having the courtesy to post the lovely Miss Hasselbeck rather than the repulsive Mr. (I’m guessing) O’Donnell.
And then I find this.
Seriously. Stop. If we donate to the tip jar, can we buy days without that creature’s face?
It burns. It burns!
Professor Blather on November 1, 2006 at 4:18 PM
This show is offensive on SOOOO many levels.
It is a sign of the dumbing-down and “Democratization” or “Deaning” of America that this show and the Daily Show are routinely cited as “news”.
OK…the faux-redhead maintains that people who support the war in Iraq, who believe the Republicans are “stupid”, as in “stupid enough to believe that”…when “everybody knows that it isn’t” (i.e., this war=good).
Sort of reminds me of the morning after a big Democratic loss, when a prominant Lefty Democrat bemoaned, “I can’t see *HOW* we lost…eveyone *I* know voted for our guy!” Those in hermetically sealed worlds should get too agitated…it’ll burst their little bubbles….
I must say, though, that I love the “Mel Gibson without the booze line”…I’ve been waiting for that one…that’s what I thought when I saw Kerry’s unravelling ramblings….
“Forget about John Kerry for a second”, when the discussion is ABOUT John Kerry and his remark, and onto matters that the Leftist hens can shout you down about…Leftists don’t seem able to maintain a train of thought, let alone an argument, for any longer than it takes for a hummingbird to masturbate….
…and I apologize for any mental image that might give rise to….
A shrill, pushy ethnic urbanite, living the Islamist stereotype…a plus-sized has-been comic who meets all discourse with one-liners…a washed up interviewer who asks people about the sort of trees they aspire to be…and a lone voice of reason too polite for her own good. Why is this show even quotable, again?
Is this what women *ANYWHERE* believe is some sort of “powerful women address todays issues” forum? This is a henyard without the cracked corn!
Also, the rationale that “if you like the war, send your husband or son” is valid, if you correlate it with “I’ve served or have sent my husband/son/daughter/wife to serve, so *I VOTE*.” Whup out a Heinlein on ‘em! That’d put things in perspective really quickly!
As Steyn points out, it is no longer whether we ought to be at war…it’s about whether we intend to win.
Puritan1648 on November 1, 2006 at 4:19 PM
Wouldn’t suprise me if Walters had them draw up Hasselbeck’s contract in such a way as to prevent her from appearing on any other program without prior consent from the network.
That’s the only explanation I can think of as to why she’d take this kind of abuse day after day after day.
Free Elizabeth!!!
The Ugly American on November 1, 2006 at 4:19 PM
Mel Gibson without the booze!
HAHAHAHA!
WriterMom on November 1, 2006 at 4:22 PM
That is ironic … considering that what Slick William did could actually be considered draft-dodging in the legal and technical sense.
You have to be a special kind of maroooon to label flying fighter jets in the Guard as “draft dodging.”
Try telling all the Guardsmen in Iraq that they’re “dodging” something.
Thanks to all of you for convincing me not to watch the clip. Just your comments pissed me off.
Hasselbeck is a saint. And a cute one, too. Even if her husband did completely screw my fantasy season.

I can’t see anything from the View without thinking of the Family Guy clip where they’re all just clucking like a bunch of chickens. Okay, we’ll give Elizabeth a pass, since she at least tries to be substantive. And factual. And hot.
Speaking of things that “everybody knows”, did any of you see the report FOX did last night on the educational and economic backgrounds of recruits? Apparently since 9/11, the percentage of recruits from the upper income brackets actually increased, while the percentage from lower income levels decreased. The average education level of new recuits also increased after 9/11. So much for the stereotypes the liberals want so badly to perpetuate. Also, inner cities are vastly underrepresented as sources of recruits (makes sense, since they’re generally Democratic strongholds), while suburban and rural areas are considerably overrepresented. So basically the vast majority of the military are drawn from the red (and patriotic) parts of the map, so it’s no wonder they vote Republican.

Just looking at the lineup on the view reminds me of one of those “which one of these does not belong” questions on an aptitude test … this one being very easy to answer.

Is it just me … or does stuff like this make you think Democrats WANT to lose next Tuesday?
Or are they just this dumb?

“Fight the War on Terror or fight Republicans!” I LIKE HER! That Vent gig might be an option for her because if she makes Barbwa Wawa look any more pinched, she’s oughta there! When she said what an “elitist” he is, they cut straight to

And isn’t it ironic that she doesn’t belong for a couple reasons besides the politically obvious?
1) She’s smart, 2) she’s seriously attractive.
But then again, if you stuck any conservative woman in the middle of half a dozen liberals … wouldn’t she stand out, for the very same reasons?
Professor Blather on November 1, 2006 at 4:35 PM
…now that he’s been mentioned on this thread, has anyone heard Slippery William’s take on his “friend”‘s current troubles?
I understand that Mrs. Slippery has pointed out that Mr. Swiftboat’s remarks were “inappropriate”…I suppose that she believes as strongly that her husband’s exposing himself to state employees and getting serviced in White House passageways was “unsanitary”….
When Hillary gets pissed, she’s a ball of fire…but that’s why Our Slippery loves her so….

seejanemom on November 1, 2006 at 4:36 PM
I feel kind of bad for Hasselbeck, they barely let her get a word in edgewise in their zeal to slam her like a symbolic pinata for anything and everything conservative. I guess that is why she has to distill her comments to sheer genius when she is allowed to speak.
“Next week, You either vote to fight terrorism or fight Republicans.”
Beautiful Genius!!

Don’t watch the show, but is the set-up this? : Four opinionators, three rabid Left and one lone token conservative. Three fast-talking no-nothings spend most of time smothering any attempts by token to get an alternate opinion in edgewise. Egged on by audience sympathizers, they are satisfied that they own the superior positions. Natural fanbase for token is not in the audience, and would outnumber the Lefties 3-1. But, they don’t waste their time watching that show. Anyone have fanmail address to swamp the View with support for Hasselbeck? Bet she doesn’t perceive there is much out there, the way it’s stacked against her.

naliaka on November 1, 2006 at 4:40 PM
absolutely must get Liz Hasselbeck onboard. That will leave precisely 0 good-looking and intelligent ladies for the view and 5 for Vent.
View will on the other hand have 3 fat, old, ugly and stupid one’s that remain. This is a much more appropriate number: see the 3 monkeys, the number of witches in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the 3 stooges, name most other infamous 3-somes here ….
A format much more suited to Rosie’s show if you ask me!

morganfrost on November 1, 2006 at 4:41 PM
Lemme See…
President Bush holds/held a commission as an Officer in the Air Force. Rumsfeld holds/held a commission as an Officer in the Navy.
Both are trained fighter pilots. But neither one has seen combat because most of their time was in Reserve service.
Does this mean that military reserve and/or non-combat service doesn’t count?
Gimme a break!
Note to Rosie O’Dumbell and her ilk: It takes more smarts that you have to pilot a fighter aircraft.
You’re basically tell me that my own 20 years of Army Reserve service and my Officer Commission are worthless because I never was called to serve in combat.
Well, sc**w you View!

The snarky old 60′s wannabe when talking about the draft dodgers…who was she referring to? President Clinton who fled to Europe or Kerry who joined the Navy only after his requests for educational deferments were denied because of his low GPA at Yale?
Wade on November 1, 2006 at 4:50 PM
Can’t we just vote The View off of TV?
Benaiah on November 1, 2006 at 4:52 PM
Well said (as usual), Professor. Aviation, especially supersonic aviation, is an inherently dangerous business–even with flight safety as tight-assed as it is–and the libs act like it’s a cakewalk. Didn’t one of the pilots around here say that the F-104 (which George Bush flew, unless I’m having a brain cramp) was nicknamed “the Widowmaker”, because it killed so many pilots? And Rumsfeld was a flight instructor, which is not a job that they give to just any jamoke that walks in off the street. After three years Active he was in the Ready Reserve until 1975, and the Standby Reserve until 1989. The guy paid his dues, and deserves respect for it.
But since neither of these men is a Democrat, their service just gets denigrated and dismissed out of hand, while John Kerry is routinely called a “war hero”. Maybe it’s just me, but in my experience, real heroes are generally humble about their service, and aren’t comfortable with being called “heroes”. But that arrogant bastard just eats it up.
ReubenJCogburn on November 1, 2006 at 4:55 PM
So serving in the Reserves is “doding the draft”?
I didn’t hear CLinton in that list.
RightWired on November 1, 2006 at 4:57 PM
-3 months of service, self-qualifying for medals, = no hero.
.
Kerry is now, and it seems always has been, a FRAUD!

I’ve got to quit watching Rosie O’fat cow and the two other stooges. I find myself losing my Christian beliefs when I watch this show. I really don’t know how Elizabeth Hasselbeck handles being a part of this show. Oh, by the way, John Kerry was only in Nam for three months. I think Elizabeth needs to get her own show on Fox. I really must quit subjecting myself to this torture.
locwilliam on November 1, 2006 at 5:01 PM
Not to be a wise guy or anything, but Matt Hasselbeck is her brother-in-law. She’s married to his brother, Tim, the backup QB for the Giants. One lucky dog, indeed.
Readymade on November 1, 2006 at 5:02 PM
Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes!
If you throw in his Reserve time, it’s 35 years, with 21 of those active duty service or ready (drilling) Reserves.(1654-1975) His active Reserve time transitioned to inactive reserve when he became Sec Def for the first time. He retired from the military in 1989.
Pablo on November 1, 2006 at 5:02 PM

Someone else asked this also. Who the hell is this Behar lady? (there is no JOY in her) I even did a search and still dont know who she is/was, other than she appeared on fatties failed follies show before the ‘blinded-view’. Anyone know?
shooter on November 1, 2006 at 5:08 PM
From ReubenJCogburn:
Indeed! Whether you’re flying in Vietnam or Vermont, zooming around the sky in combat aircraft isn’t exactly safe. And I’ve heard the same thing about that particular aircraft.
But what really gets me is the basic misunderstanding of reserve duty: if your unit gets called up, you go. There are THOUSANDS of Guardsmen and Reservists in Iraq.
If Bush is a “draft dodger” – then so are they. Isn’t that simple logic?
If you can prove to me that Bush’s squadron or unit was sent to Vietnam – and that Bush somehow managed to get out of it and stay home – then you’ve got a case.
But if he never went because his unit never went … denigrating his service is silly. Kerry’s 3-month tour of shooting himself in the foot comes a lot closer to the definition of “dodging” your duty.
And another thing that pisses me off is that liberals pretend not to understand that even at the height of Vietnam, millions of soldiers – especially reservists – were never sent there. I personally know people who spent Vietnam … in Germany. Or Korea. Or Texas. During Vietnam – and right now – a lot of the time, reserves are called to active duty to serve in the U.S. … so that the active units can go overseas.
I personally served during Desert Storm, and spent it all … in California.
Am I draft dodger?
Sigh. Liberalism requires some serious mental short-circuitry.
Professor Blather on November 1, 2006 at 5:08 PM
God bless Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I don’t care what you are doing right now — whether you just reading this blog, or typing in a comment, or whatever — Stop! Stop whatever you are doing and say a prayer of thanks and support for Elizabeth. We must petition God to give her the strength to carry-on and speak the truth. We all need to support her in ANY way that we can so that she won’t be intimidated by those other three Satanic clowns that “the View” producers call “panelists”.

Elizabeth also needs to point out that GWB had better grades than Kerry. Kerry proved why he should not be attempting to make jokes about how smart the President is. Kerry is not up to the effort to formulate the setup and follow-up with the punchline.
I doubt any of the women on the View thought Elizabeth could have such a superb ‘last word’. That is how you do it!
WiseDood on November 1, 2006 at 5:40 PM
True. And the fact that hardly any of them have served doesn’t exactly enhance their understanding of and ability to empathize with the military. But that won’t stop them from pontificating on the subject to people who’ve actually been there.
And thomashton, glad you made it through. Thanks to you and everybody else who puts themselves in harm’s way.
ReubenJCogburn on November 1, 2006 at 5:42 PM
I love how she says “All these people that love this war: why don’t they send their husbands and their sons?”
Umm, right Joy. The military is FULL of anti-war Democrats that were forced to be in Iraq. No Republicans. No one who is there because they want to serve their country and free another. No one who supports the war has any personal ties to the conflict. We just egg on the war from the sidelines. Right. I see your point now.

The plane George flew in the ANG was the F-102. I found THIS interesting.
james hooker on November 1, 2006 at 6:04 PM
WHY didn’t the RNC get that information out more? That was FASCINATING. Thank you for posting it.
For those too lazy to follow James’ link, here’s a few interesting bits – that I’d love to hear the View ladies respond to – about that safe F-102 duty that George used to dodge the draft:
So to summarize: the View ladies couldn’t be more wrong. Bush not only served in pretty hazard duty here in the U.S. … he volunteered to serve in combat!
That’s “draft dodging?”
BTW, James Hooker: the parts about defending against Soviet bombers was interesting, too. A lot of us forget that Cold War stateside fighter duty wasn’t exactly goofing off …. those boys were on alert 24/7, waiting to defend the homeland against nuclear annihilation.
Shorter version of this post: Liberals are uneducated morons. They’ll probably get stuk in Irak.
Professor Blather on November 1, 2006 at 6:32 PM
I think there was something wrong with the clip. It sounded like there might have been applause after what Hasselbeck had to say. Surely a mistake, right?
Rosie won’t stand for that. Smart money is on those people beat in an alley after the show.

Actually, Rumsfeld retired in 1989.
PRCalDude on November 1, 2006 at 6:37 PM
Thanks for squaring me away on the F-102, james. That was indeed interesting. So the TANG was serving in Vietnam when George Bush joined up, the F-102 was more dangerous to fly than anything in the air today, and young George asked to serve in Vietnam but wasn’t sufficiently trained yet. Not exactly the story you’ll hear in the Liberal Stream Media.

Emoting harpies… The real issue is that an American hating elitist was caught expressing his true views on American servicemen and became indignant when confronted with his own hatred of this nation.
I have America haters in my own family (Wife’s side and NOT Blood) and I’ve had the same argument with them. They literally said that they do not love this nation and the majority of the military personnel are uneducated red-necks and black people that need to escape the ghetto. The fact is that they share Kerry’s views on everything including this. This man came within inches of the American presidency. Our enemies can’t beat our ideology so they use our system to bring us down from the inside.

What’s a day of liberal meltage without Rosie the Hut?

Considering Elizabeth barely gets to speak and is shouted down often it is fairly impressive that she can even make a coherent point. Her closing comment was right to the point.
This clip is the first time iv’e seen Elizabeth sitting next to Rosie, ussually they are on opposite ends of the table. In this clip Rosie wasn’t the one hyperventilating, nevertheless I kept fearing she would reach out and strangle Elizabeth.

So much mush from the mealy mouthed liberal chicks. And why was Rosie playing referee? Why wasn’t SHE defending John Kerry?
Elizabeth, keep fighting! You are right!

Here, boys and girls are some facts about our dear Liz I didn’t know……..
Quite alot for a great young woman. Softball Champ to boot.
BTW, Joy was formerly a comedian like her pal Rosie.
Figures.
So the show’s roster can be best described as 2 washed up feminist comedians, 1 washed up liberal lightweight journalist, and our dear Elisabeth.

Ladies and Gentlemen —
Let’s not keep all the fun here. Go lend some moral support to Elisabeth at http://abc.go.com/daytime/theview/bios/elisabeth_hasselbeck.html.
