Wonderful VENT. I wonder if Kerry will attempt an apology today. I guess that may depend on how much pressure is on him to keep his mouth shut for the next week.

WHERE IS THE DEMAND FOR HIS REGINATION?????

I type so badly when I’m livid…as “Military trash” myself, I can spell…I promise!

Great Vent. On target, as usual. BTW, I love the background graphics on this one. Perfect for election time.
There should be no doubt that these people actively work against this country’s best interests. I marvel that they still call themselves Americans.
Jezla on November 1, 2006 at 8:13 AM
Kerry is trying to paint this as a botched joke in that he meant President Bush was stupid. Not enough pundits are bringing up the fact that Kerry actually scored lower than Bush so his excuse fails to wash.
Michelle has done a wonderful job of showing that what Kerry said is just a symptom of a larger problem painting the left.

Thanks Massachusetts. The gifts that keep on giving. Thanks Michelle for highlighting the ELITIST SNOBS this close to “the Big Day”!

Easy….. I live in Massachusetts, and I’ve never voted for this tool or Teddy “Let’s go swimming” Kennedy.
Good Vent, Michelle. Well done as usual. I’ll post it around on the MBs I go to.

Fat Ted should be arrested and charges with treason, instead the SoB will be re-elected.

Nice vent, Michelle.
Excellent job Mr Preston; the visuals look fantastic.
You got that right! What was it Zell Miller said - something like: “No one has been more wrong more often and more loudly than the two Senators from Massachusetts”
Man, that dude was something else. Sheer brilliance :)
And of course the epithet fits perfectly - they definitely *are* elitist snobs. The Democrats are not the Party of the Little Guy. Also funny: they actually accuse Republicans of being the Rich White People’s Party. Sure; like the Kennedys, Ned Lamont, Harry Reid, the Heinz-Kerrys, Sean Penn (and at least 90% of Hollywood), the Clintons, George Soros and on and on and on.

Can’t Massachusetts see what gasbags they both are? To follow Kerry’s logic, everybody “stuck in Iraq” is probably from Massachusetts.

Take it from someone who recently retired after serving twenty years in the military, enlisted and officer, Army and Air Force, most members of the armed services are conservatives, they vote Republican. There are many reasons for this, but that would take up a lot of space here. Suffice to say, Democrats know that military members aren’t one of their key constituency groups, hence the treatment these courageous men and women get from Democratic politicians.
Michelle, I believe Slick Willie also was reported to have said that he loathed the military. He, of course, is the hero and savior of the Democratic party. That should about sum it up.

I need a cupcake. A small escape from the reality that my Hunky Hub Military Officer will lay it out on the line again today for the likes of him. Maybe I’ll have two.

This Kerry gaffe is really a blessing in disguse right here before the election. Today he gets my first “No Cigar” award. Kerry is so far down the slippery slope, with the likes of Ted Kennedy, that he’s almost out of sight forever. And not a minute too soon.

(I loathe Kerry, but allow me to play devil’s advocate here…) Even if we give Sen. Kerry the benefit of the doubt - that this was a botched joke about President Bush - he still doesn’t get the point that the impression of his words were an insult to our military volunteers. And as anyone knows, appearances count for a lot. Sen. Kerry’s appearance of slandaring our troops is what’s got so many hot under the collar. He should have made clear “It was supposed to be a joke, but I screwed it up” then said “I never meant to say anything bad about our military, I apologize.” But as Michelle pointed out about the Skiing incident, he’d rather blame others than take the blame himself. Sen. Kerry is making things worse by not sucking it in, swallowing his pride and accepting fault here. No, he probably didn’t mean to slandar our brave men and women fighting for freedom all over the world, but he still wound up doing that anyway. He should be “a man”, as he says, and do the right thing. But I don’t believe he will.
DakRoland on November 1, 2006 at 8:47 AM
God bless you and your husband. Something John S Mills (I think it was) said about the “better men” seems to apply. Maybe one day your man will have a chance encounter with Jean Francois himself and a highly engrossing debate can develop. Enjoy as many cupcakes as you feel like!

Great Vent!
When I first joined the service, the thing I noticed right away was the dedication and purpose of so many of my instructors, supervisors, division chiefs and commanders. It was amazing, guys actually studying the history of past heroes and leaders, in order to learn how to lead today’s sailors and troops. How to be inspiring and motivational.
It was contagious… it was tangent. The young officers coming out of the Academy or College ROTC programs were so intelligent and wise and they listened and learned from seasoned enlisted men. A give and take of what was the best way to accomplish a mission.
We were constantly discussing “lessons learned” after every mission.
And everybody was encouraged to continue their education in the military…
Kerry is just stuck on stupid in his views of our troops - he couldn’t be more inaccurate or condensending.
flagwaver on November 1, 2006 at 8:56 AM
Right on. I’ve been pointing this out in the other HotAir threads, but haven’t heard it mentioned much on TV, however I will give credit to the Fox & Friends crew for mentioning it a couple times this morning.
Anyway Michelle and crew, this is probably my favorite Vent so far, and ditto on what another commenter said about the graphics. Great job… is that all Bryan on that? Cool stuff.
By the way Michelle, nice call on the “Genghis Khan” remark, though you didn’t even say it as obnoxiously elitist prep-school a-holish as he did. “razed villages in a fashion reminiscent of
GenghisJenJiss Kahn. WTF is “JenJiss” Senator?By the way, I’m still steamed about the virtual pass that Durbin got on those comments too, and I bring them up all the time. That was unforgivable. By the way, does anyone know if there was ever video of the comments? Obviously we know he said them, it’s not a debate, but I’m sure everyone would like access to video of them.
RightWinged on November 1, 2006 at 8:57 AM
I don’t buy that he was dissing the president. Even if he was, the President has a higher GPA than John Kerry and went on to get a Harvard MBA. Also, George W. Bush was in the military. Air National Guard, and he was an astutue pilot of a jet airplane. Boxes of rocks and un-intelligent people don’t fly airplanes.
Further, if it was about Bush, Bush is the commander-in-chief so and Iraq is a military engagement. So he is still dissing our mission, the Generals, and the commander-in-chief.
He also makes comment to the people in the administration being unintelligent.
I would really like to see John Kerry debate Dr. Condolleezza Rice.
James on November 1, 2006 at 9:03 AM
I used to think that Howard Dean was secretly on Karl Rove’s payroll. Now I am beginning to wonder if it John Kerry isn’t as well.
We can only hope that Kerry keeps talking until election day.
brazilnut on November 1, 2006 at 9:03 AM
I forgot to add, Kerry knows zilch about inspiring and motivating his men.. witness the Swift Boat Vets who exposed the truth about his time in Vietnam.
Kerry was the exact opposite of A GREAT LEADER.
He was a terrible leader in Vietnam, his men saw through him, and he’s been bitter towards them ever since.
flagwaver on November 1, 2006 at 9:07 AM
Ha! I say things to this affect all the time. Dean used to be the king of making ridiculous statements every few days. Then they clearly told him to shut up and go underground. But since then we’ve had the rest pick up the slack.

seejanemom on November 1, 2006 at 9:22 AM
Hey seejanemom… some sites have a way to click and respond to a specific comment which would excerpt for you (Expose the Left started doing this towards the end), but that’s not the case here. Here you can just highlight, copy, and paste something you want to excerpt in to the comment box. Then highlight just the part that is an excerpt and click the “quote” button just above the comment box. Hope that helps.

What the hell is wrong with the idiots in Massachusetts that continue to vote for trash like Kennedy and Kerry. Even Ray Charles could see how sorry these traitors are. The same dumb ass voters have Romney for a Governor, so they must have at least an atom of good sense in their numb skulls. What is their problem? Are they just real stupid people or is there something else going on. I don’t get it.

NRA4Freedom on November 1, 2006 at 9:45 AM
Hmmm…. just watched Kerry’s defense agian, and it finaly struck me what really irritated me about it….
He’s trying to use the “you’re too stupid to understand what I meant, not what I said” defense.
X wife used to use that one… didn’t work then either.
Romeo13 on November 1, 2006 at 9:46 AM
Wouldn’t it be fantastic if that idiot Kerry’s remark is credited with impacting the vote so the Republicans hold the House and Senate?
We probably need to see a Kerry-Dean Jib-Jab episode.
Shmo on November 1, 2006 at 9:46 AM
As usual, my ‘represetatives’ in the Senate prove how little they actually reflect the views of those they supposedly represent. Yet, on November 7th, Teddy will be returned to the Senate with 77% of the vote.
I can’t wait to get out of here before God pulls a Sodom and Gomorrah on us!

Yeah, I’m waiting for this to get beyond the pages of HotAir too. How the hell can he get away with this? Oh right, if you can get away with killing someone, you can achieve anything!
And Shmo, you’re right… what is wrong with Massachusetts that they keep electing these POSs. I mean I’m in Vermont, and we’re about to move the only self-identified elected socialist in Washington from being our House Rep. to one of our Senators and the screamer is our former governor who was the first to pass “civil unions” in the nation, yet I’m less embarassed than I think Mass. residents should be.

Speaking as someone who had a masters degree BEFORE he signed up for the Army Infantry (Army National Guard) I am completely offended by Kerry’s arrogant and snide remark putting down our military.
I’ll bet the average level of education in the military is greater than the average level of education in Massachusetts. That would certainly explain the state’s senatorial representation.

By the way everyone, General Tom Mcinerney just laid in to Kerry big time. We should be able to expose Teddy and JFK as the traitors that they are and have always been. These men are a disgrace to this country. They do not deserve the positions that they hold. We should have some provisions to remove these men from power and to strip them of the perks they will continue to get even after (if) they leave office. Kerry is being sued over his winter soldier lies. If this is successful will he then be tried for perjury to congress?
As to why the people of MA keep re-electing these clowns it is very easy to explain, they bring home the pork.
conservativecaveman on November 1, 2006 at 10:05 AM
Excellent vent, Michelle!
Once again, we have been given an example of the DNP’s CULTURE OF MAKAKA.
If Makaka John were making a joke about the Pres, then WHY DID HE NOT MENTION PRES BUSH’S NAME IN THAT JOKE? Because Makaka John was not referring to the Pres, that’s why.
Here where I live the college has an ROTC program. As a member of the USAF Aux., (and, yes, Kerry, I have a college degree) I ask some of those students why they enlisted in ROTC. Yes, quite a few claim to do so for college benefits, but ALL OF THOSE THAT I QUESTIONED SAY THAT THEY HAVE A DUTY TO PERFORM FOR THIS NATION AFTER 9/11, THAT THEY WANT TO BETTER THEMSELVES, TO TEST THEMSELVES, TO FACE CHALLENGES…AND YES, THEY ARE AWARE OF THE RISKS.
AND FOR ALL THE RACE BAITERS OUT THERE, YES, I SPOKE TO WHITES, BLACKS, HISPANICS AND ASIANS.
Let us not forget, that during the election of Bush v Gore, the PARTY OF THE CULTURE OF MAKAKA did not want vets to vote and tried to suppress vet votes, did they not? Makaka John says that anyone who thinks that a vet would criticize other vets is crazy. Yet, during Vietnam, did not Makaka John give testimony against our troups? And how much of that was true testimony?
Notice that the other Dems are not saying a flaming thing. Has the word gone out that they are to remain silent? FLAMING HELL YES!
Where are the cries for him to resign? I dont hear any. So far, I only hear calls for an apologize.
HEY, REPUBLICANS-DO NOT PLAY NICE GUY! DEMAND FOR MAKAKA JOHN TO RESIGN!!!!!! DO NOT TUCK YOUR “YOU-KNOW-WHATS” BETWEEN YOUR LEGS! MAKE A DEMAND AND KEEP PRESSING THIS ISSUE!
THIS INSULT SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN OR FORGIVEN!!!!!!!
BTW-KERRY AND THOSE DEMS/LIBS AND RINOS WHOM DO WHAT EVER THEY CAN TO HINDER OUR PROGRESS IN THIS WAR, I AM QUESTIONING YOUR PATRIOTISM FROM THIS MOMENT ON.
The False Dervish on November 1, 2006 at 10:07 AM
The gift that keeps on giving … is still giving! Yeah! Yippee!
Here’s the funny part: Kerry *is* telling the truth. There’s not a doubt what the intent of his remark was. Whenever he thinks he’s getting off a “zinger,” he always get this wierd gleam in his eye. He sincerely thought he was making a really funny anti-Bush joke.
Which is proof once again that comedy should be left to professionals.
But even if everybody admitted they understood the joke, it’s still ridiculously lame; whatever you may think of Bush, a Yale undergrad degree and a Harvard MBA isn’t exactly failing to “do well” in school.
And, of course, there’s that wee little sticky problem of Bush’s grades actually being (marginally) better than Kerry’s. If actual facts matter - then let’s be honest and say they were both mediocre students. Kerry certainly doesn’t have much to brag about.
But here’s the point Kerry and the Loony Left are (wonderfully, happily) missing - to my great amusement: even if we all stipulate that Kerry was simply insulting Bush … IT DOESN’T MATTER. Hell, we all knew what he was trying to say with his “voted for it before I voted against it” screw-up, too …
The simple fact is that - even though I’ll freely admit I know what Kerry was trying to say - he still MUST APOLOGIZE. It’s very simple, something like this:
“Hey, I was trying to make a joke about the Prez. But I realize that my words made it sound like I was insulting the troops. I’m really sorry if I hurt anyone.”
There, John. Was that so hard?
Of course, there is one final problem - and why that even though I know what Kerry meant to say, the critics have a point … because it may have also been something of a Freudian slip. Because there is another truth, isn’t there? The truth that DEEP DOWN, John Kerry really DOES have contempt for American troops.
In other words, his comments were accurate … but fake. He meant the joke to be on Bush - but the unintended implication of his words betrays his real feelings. The joke failed not only because of his poor choice of words and crappy comic timing … but because of all the things he’s SERIOUSLY said about our troops in the past.
Shorter me: God, I love this man. And if the Dems don’t retake the House, watching them frickin’ slaughter John Kerry is going to have my laughing for weeks.

Kerry once again proves himself to be nothing but a low class dork.
His loutish behavior can only be attributed to him being ill bred.
Based on Kerry’s history of demonizing our Military, one can only conclude that those Liberal whacko’s defending his remarks as a botched joke, are either morons or share his contempt for our soldiers.

Here in WA state, we always seem to get stuck w/ dems. The west side is nothing but dems, those of here on the East are mostly republicans. But because the East isn’t as populated as the west, we always lose out. :-( I’m really hoping and praying that Cantwell loses to McGavick, but we’ll probably get stuck w/ Can’t-Do-Well. But what do you expect when dead people in Seattle keep voting. Patty Murray is an idiot, plain and simple. I happen to beleive either of the following scenarios are at play here:
1. Karl Rove genetically engineered Kerry.
2. Karl Rove was in the audience and used ventriloquism to his advantage.
3. Karl Rove hypnotized Kerry before this speech.
In any event, Karl Rove was somehow involved.

Kerry was sober, that means it really does not count, you need to be drunk like Mel Gibson was in order for true feeling to be revealed. I am sure his love of the US Military is repressed and would come forth if only we could get him to imbibe with Mel Gibson watching the Passion of the Christ. “sarcasm intended”
Excellent vent Michelle and Gang.

“We have enough enemy snipers to combat.”
Michelle, you’ll always be Queen Bee of the Vent - sting ‘em!
This whole, “study hard or you’ll end up a failure in Iraq” garbage is incredible. If anyone but Kerry said it, I’d buy his excuse that he’d be “crazy” to slur the armed services in such a way. But just as liberals have claimed that Trent Lott and George Allen’s gaffes were Freudian in nature, so it is with Kerry.
The only “accident” in what he said was that he accidentally let the side slip and revealed what he really thinks.
On a related note, one thing that’s always struck me about our military is how much it actively encourages education. Encourages kids to stay in school and graduate. And heavily encourages those who have already signed up to gain further education.
For example, during my October drill, we had a representative from Grand Canyon University stop by and give a presentation to the whole unit on how to use Federal tuition assistance to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees online. They even structure the tuition so that once the tuition assistance is factored in, the only thing we have to pay for is books.
I’ve signed up to begin pursuing my two-year MBA in Business Leadership starting in January, effectively tuition-free. There were several other guys who were signing up for various other degree programs, too. I could never have had such an opportunity in the civilian world.

I also heard that he cancelled all campaign appearances he was to make for Dem candidates. He said he didn’t want to be a ‘distraction’ but I’m thinking his phones are ringing off the hook with candidates cancelling on HIM. I’m kinda sorry about that actually. He was to be here in Pa. today campaigning with Bob Casey. What a wonderful ad THAT would have made for Rick Santorum. (who was pretty impressive on O’Reilly last night)

Here’s my thing with Kerry
Had he said at first that “he was trying to say something else, it came out horribly wrong and I apologize for that, I never meant to insult the troops” this issue would’ve been dead a day ago.
But he goes out blaming the republicans for all of this and of course the DU sheep jump and agree because they want any chance they can to hit the armed forces and the president.
Kerry hit the water, hit the ground at the bottom of the water and is proceeding to dig to china

My favourite host is Robert Spencer, but this time Michelle Malkin was on fire and she hit exactly the right points one after the other.

It was that good.

When I first saw the now infamous clip, I thought that he was trying to say that we have a society in which poor people who can’t afford a good education are forced into the military (which I happen to believe is false). Why is no one talking on this point? Everyone is arguing as to whether he was criticizing the troops or Bush of being stupid, but I still think he was trying to play the “poor” card as he and other dems have done ad infinitum.

I’m not a political analyst, but I think we need to start dropping this John Kerry comment stuff.
Not because I think he is cool and all. But because we have made our point.
John Kerry has “apologized” on the Imus show. Yeah, it was real nuanced, but he did do it. Sort of.
But if we keep beating this, eventually, people are gonna get sick of it, and start thinking “give it a rest” and that we are obsessing over something too long. They will start thinking “Heck, Kerry already apologized, but the republicans just won’t drop it. Enough! Don’t they have any real issues to talk about?”
I think we’ve already won this battle. Let’s not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. People won’t forget this at election day. Let’s not make them resent the republicans for keeping it in their face 24/7.

From Defector01:
Exactly. Nailed it.
I know what he meant to say; I also know what he said. A simple statement like this and a sincere, unqualified (read: non-Bush-bashing) apology would have ended this. Or at least dulled the roar.

Go check out PullingMyHairOut’s link above. It is *fascinating*. And it confirms my beliefs: this was a Freudian slip of sorts. Kerry may have intellectually meant to make a lame anti-Bush joke … but methinks his true emotions popped up for a second there.
Or maybe that was Karl Rove’s hand controlling his tongue. Definitely one of those.
Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery interesting stuff, Pulling.
Professor Blather on November 1, 2006 at 3:16 PM
I don’t believe this was a slip of the tongue.
I think Kerry knew exactly what he was saying, and said it exactly this way on purpose.
I also think Kerry is suffering from some kind of mental or emotional disorder. He’s definitely living in his own special imaginary world.
Lawrence on November 1, 2006 at 3:35 PM
Well, sure. He calls it “Massachusetts.” And it is definitely both imaginary and very, very special.
Frankly, what I think is far more interesting than whether Kerry meant it or not … is the liberal reaction to his comments. They seem divided into two camps that cannot logically come together:
1) It was indeed a slip of the tongue (which I agree with - although I think a shrink would suggest he might meant it at some level); or
2) Hey, he’s just telling the truth - the military is full of uneducated losers, so Kerry’s just doin’ the “truth to power” thing.
So which is it, liberals? Did he mean it - or didn’t he? He can’t both have NOT meant it - and be speaking the unvarnished truth. So which is it?
Because one thing is beyond question: LIBERALS, in general, sure seem to agree that our troops are uneducated morons with no other options … and Kerry WAS their Presidential nominee.
Interesting little paradox they’ve wandered into.
Rove, you sneaky bastidge. And a week before election day. Very clever.

Professor Blather,
Speaking of Paradox…
Back when I still wore a uniform from time to time, one of my liberal friends was discussing his opinion of military people dying in combat. His position was as follows: “If they get killed, it’s their own fault for being stupid enough to volunteer in the first place.” Consequently, we ceased to be friends.
Point is this:
Liberals really don’t care that conservative soldiers are dying. Problem is the soldiers are dying for a conservative cause rather than a liberal one. Take Kosovo for example, Clinton sent troops to die in that conflict and the liberals were okay with it. Liberals are okay, for the most part, with soldiers dying in Afghanistan. But liberals aren’t okay with soldiers dying in Iraq.
I think the double standared is pretty obvious to us.

the guy truly cannot open his mouth without something stupid falling out of it… and he’s a United States senator… i say michelle for senator!

There are only 2 ways to interpret his remarks. Either he was teling the students to get an education to avoid military service or he was telling them to get an education to avoid becoming a bad president. Does that official line really make any sense, he was cautioning every student in the room to avoid becoming a President of the United States that makes a mistake? I think not, all that makes sense is he really belives the troops are uneducated and stupid and his apology doesnt change that.
As for MA voters part of the problem is the (R) party doesnt really exist here. Gov Romney(R) practically came in from outside the state to win. Many elections the (D) is unoppossed across the state in election after election. In Kerry and Kennedy recent elections they didnt even bother to campaign and refused to attend debates. In many cases Libertarian candidates come close or outscore the R canditate.
