Video: Mary Katharine Ham talks midterms on Larry King Live

Somehow the correct spelling of her middle name slipped through the multiple layers of painstaking fact-checking despite the fact that she mentioned it to them three times before the show.

No matter. MK’s star continues to rise, and will rise a little further next month when she joins Captain Ed in CNN’s election-night blogger bullpen. As for this evening, she was on with radio hosts Stephanie Miller and Lars Larson and nutroots heartthrob John Aravosis. I left them all on the cutting-room floor except for a brief retort from Miller to one of MK’s comments — although I would have kept Aravosis in there just to watch his reaction if MK had used the national security question to ask him about this.

I guess you have to play nice during these things.

Four topics were put to her: (1) which party has the momentum and why, (2) Iraq and terrorism, (3) problems with voting machines, and (4) what happens if the Republicans retain control. Here are her answers in sequence. Enjoy.

Love her, but way too much “uh…”

Very good indeed. I guess I’m just a little more skeptical than MK on whether the Republicans have truly heard the base and will shape up on their own. While I’d like the GOP to retain control for the sake of national security, it would also be nice to see the current leadership purged and replaced with guys who think outside the box and move the party back towards conservative principles.

Greg Tinti on October 30, 2006 at 11:11 PM

She’s new to this, gotta forget about the uh’s. They’ll go away. I didn’t get to see the cross talk parts, but it seemed like she made some good points.

lorien1973 on October 30, 2006 at 11:22 PM

Three cheers for MKH. She was funny, sharp, and graceful. She got to talk substantive issues. And best of all: She got under snitty Stephanie Miller’s skin.

Score!

Michelle on October 30, 2006 at 11:26 PM

Seems like very few people think like MKH anymore, but I do. I think she is right on all points. I also hope she is right. Because if she is not, things will go very badly very fast. If the Dems win and take either house, the terrorists will count it as a victory, and will be emboldened to ramp up what they do best.

The MSM will feel free to take the terrorists side like we have not seen. Or more to the point, like we have not seen yet. It is not like they have not already taken their side. Anything to defeat America. Anything to give those who hate us the most, all the amunition they need to defeat us in public opinion, which is where it all stands.

I am not the smartest person in the world. But I can see where this all is going if we elect the Dimmies into power. Look to France for a glimpse into the future USA.

Bloggers on Cable news? I thought this blog thing was just a fad and bloggers weren’t credible? :)

she fine.

I watched Laura Ingraham and Mary Katharine Ham and fast-forwarded through the rest. TiVo turns CNN into a very watchable network! And MKH was in attack mode tonight! Good job.

Can you put up Laura’s segments as well? She is hilarious. Her comment on whether embryos are human or not she said, ‘Speaking as a former embryo…”

Beautiful conservative women shall inherit the earth.

infidel4life on October 31, 2006 at 12:03 AM

Beautiful conservative women shall inherit the earth.

I dunno.
The newer models don’t seem at all interested in waiting passively for probate.

Stephen M on October 31, 2006 at 12:11 AM

Beautiful conservative women shall inherit conquer the earth.

Point taken.

infidel4life on October 31, 2006 at 12:26 AM

A beautiful conservative Southern woman conquers CNN!

d1carter on October 31, 2006 at 12:37 AM

Exellent! MKH gets extra credit for the “other problems than voting machines”interjection. Somebody in the studio snickered. lol

sonnyspats1 on October 31, 2006 at 12:47 AM

Wow, she’s getting a lot better at this. What’s great is her absolute confidence and calm demeanor. Watching the Dem borgs squirm, especially Aravosis who can’t sit still long enough to let anyone finish talking, including himself, was priceless.

Go MKH.

JeffB. on October 31, 2006 at 1:04 AM

How old is MKH? For someone so young she sure has a lot of gravitas.

I wish someone would talk about the real problem with elections – that Democrats have repeatedly, brazenly and shamelessly tried to cheat their way into office. Is this somehow taboo to mention nowadays or what? Why does our side have to pussyfoot around the fact that Gore/Lieberman were engaged in after-the-fact election fraud, with their ridiculous “hanging chads” and illegal selective recounts? All that does is give legitimacy to future Democrat attempts to cheat, and God help us on November 8th if any of the races are close and their “lawyers” descend, in collusion with the lying MSM. Seems to me, our pundits should be holding Dems to account, not assuming they will play by the rules.

Mary K has a great career ahead of her. She is just getting started. Remember it wasn’t more than a few months ago, and she helped cover for michelle Malkin. That Vent she did was a heads up to anyone paying attention.

She has natural charm she is a sharp minded, straight shooting, and confident. Don’t laugh, but what are the things you liked most about Ronald Reagan?

There is no reason this Woman couldn’t win an important election, once she gets more exposure. Picture her as a Senator. Hell, picture her as President.

If we want to reform the Conservative leadership, maybe we just need to promote up from within. Find the people who have the heart, and the mind to lead that reform.

Mary Katharine Ham is a good example to look to.

ValhallaMike on October 31, 2006 at 2:03 AM

Kudos to MKH!

infidel on October 31, 2006 at 2:07 AM

Damn, she’s getting good at this fast.

Alex K on October 31, 2006 at 2:11 AM

Another good appearance for MKH. Like Greg Tinti, I hope and pray that she is right about the Republicans feeling duly “spanked” by their base for leaning too far to the left, whether they win or lose. My fear is that they will take a win as a presumption that their current behavior is still approved of. A bigger fear is the socialists in power.

I believe that thanks to folks like Mary and Michelle, RINOs will be kept in check or shown the door in the future. No matter what, a larger portion of the public needs to get and stay engaged in the political process, and blogs are a humongous step in the right direction.

Freelancer on October 31, 2006 at 2:18 AM

Wow, she really is the bomb.

Anwyn on October 31, 2006 at 2:32 AM

Much much better this time. That was a stellar performance.

Christoph on October 31, 2006 at 4:55 AM

MKH, You go girl! Way to spank ‘em!

E L Frederick on October 31, 2006 at 7:41 AM

GREAT JOB! MKH.. every time we see her she gets better and sharper. Keep up the good work.

DarianCounts on October 31, 2006 at 8:29 AM

Is it possible conservatives have just been making a basic tactical error in choosing our spokesmen?

The key in that word is “men.” Maybe us men should just take a few years off, and let the women run things. I strongly suspect that if Michelle, Kirsten, MKH, Laura Ingraham, et al, were the only conservatives people heard or saw … every election would be a conservative landslide.

Professor Blather on October 31, 2006 at 8:30 AM

Extremely impressive performance by MKH. Articulate, knowledgable, and confident. She’s getting real good at being a “Talking Head.”

asc85 on October 31, 2006 at 8:30 AM

You can’t spell your name crazy and expect everyone to get it right.

Thanks for putting up the clip, AP.

frankj on October 31, 2006 at 8:49 AM

She did a great job! I am always amazed at how one doesn’t keep from losing it when debating these lefties. I would be yelling “You have GOT to be joking?” and such.

Rightwingsparkle on October 31, 2006 at 9:04 AM

That deserves a “woot, woot!”

jdpaz on October 31, 2006 at 9:49 AM

Nicely done MKH; good answers..you responded to the backtalk from the other panelists with good expressions…a star born! Anyone catch Stephanie building her ‘absolute moral authority fort’? My daddy ran with Goldwater; I voted for Reagan…so what? Being a boy scout when you’re young doesn’t excuse becoming a shoplifter when you’re an adult. It just makes people ask: What happened to you? These panels need to be in one room. This way when someone interrupts you with annoying jackasserie, you can reach over and strangle them with your microphone cord (thanks to the wedding singer.) Cheers.

austinnelly on October 31, 2006 at 10:11 AM

MK, Much better job this time around MK, as I knew it would. Keep bringing the hammer.

Wade on October 31, 2006 at 10:13 AM

Once again MKH proves that you guys at HotAir should have gotten her under an exclusive contract.

thirteen28 on October 31, 2006 at 11:26 AM

Hooray for MKH.
Poised, charming and drop dead gorgeous.
Another well deserved, way to go!

Speakup on October 31, 2006 at 12:55 PM

Wish I saw the whole thing. Looks like they tried to gang-up on the silly, little, young conservative girl. Thought she did very well.

But Ms. Miller has to be kidding. Just b/c your Daddy was a conservative, and you voted for Reagan doesn’t mean anything in 2006. I know conservatives who voted for Clinton.

budorob on October 31, 2006 at 3:17 PM

Three cheers for MKH. She was funny, sharp, and graceful. She got to talk substantive issues. And best of all: She got under snitty Stephanie Miller’s skin.

Michelle on October 30, 2006 at 11:26 PM

Indeed!

MK did also talk substantively to the issues. Clear, concise, and to-the-point. So much so that you could see some of the other pundits squirming.

Well done Mary Katharine!

Lawrence on October 31, 2006 at 4:05 PM

Cut Mary Katharine some slack, hindmost.

This lovely conservative southern belle is relatively new to the game, but has handled herself admirably. Holding her own while giving better than she got.

Like fine wine, Mary Katharine will surely improve with age.

Jack.

Jack Deth on October 31, 2006 at 4:53 PM

Don’t pick on her for the “uh”s…it’s hard to do that on national TV when you don’t have much experience doing television.
