Video: Scheuer says Bin Laden will rejoice at Democratic victory

posted at 3:16 pm on October 28, 2006 by Allahpundit

Remember when he was the toast of the nutroots for “Imperial Hubris”?

Now he’s David Brock in reverse. Good times.

Can’t say I’m real jazzed to have him on our side, though.

Here’s the op-ed Brian Wilson reads from in the clip. The former head of the CIA’s Osama-hunting unit is a values voter? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but if I’d had to bet on which single issue was most likely to decide Michael Scheuer’s vote, abortion would not have been my first guess.

What the enemy thinks is not the sole reason on which to base a vote. I will vote for Republicans, as I always do, because some know unborn babies are human beings who should not be murdered with the Democrats’ joyful zeal. Enemy perceptions are worth remembering, however, because if Americans elect Democrats believing them likely to defeat al Qaedaism, history suggests they will be wrong.

The combination of Democratic rhetoric and the indelible fact of the Clinton administration’s relentless refusal to try to kill bin Laden — preferring to protect its Arab, arms-buying buddies at the cost of American corpses — ensures that voters will receive what Clinton-era Democrats are best at giving: barely disguised pacifism that has and will continue to allow al-Qaeda and its allies to steadily destroy U.S. security.

Worth watching if only for a great line he gets off towards the end — one which Mark Steyn fans especially will appreciate.

Another Bin Laden expert, Peter Bergen, entered the political fray recently too. He’s not taking sides in the election, but he does claim to know “what Osama wants” — a total withdrawal from Iraq. Luckily for him and us, though, that won’t be necessary: Jim Webb’s got a miracle cure that’s going to solve the whole thing.

McCain has a cure in mind, too. The CW is that more troops will improve the situation. Will they? Some people are beginning to wonder.

Update: AQ warns Canada: pull out of Afghanistan or else.

“No better enemy to have than one that doesn’t believe in itself.”

O’Reilly–Dave, do you want the US to win the war on terror?

Letterman–Its not an easy answer for me because I’m thoughtful.

cms on October 28, 2006 at 3:40 PM

I heard Scheuer on the radio recently lambasting the democrats, saying they don’t have a clue on how to fight terrorism.

EF on October 28, 2006 at 3:54 PM

Come on Allah, don’t you see that the only way to win the GWOT is for Nancy Pelosi and Jimmy Carter to hold hands in sing “Coum-bye-ya” with Osama, Ama-dinnerjacket, and Nasrallah?

It’s a two step Deomoratic plan. Appease first, then wonder why everyone thinks your weak and no one respects you second. Gosh… don’t you see it… it’s right there…

BadBrad on October 28, 2006 at 3:58 PM

I question the timing of this.

Tehran concurs, via LGF:

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Tehran’s interim Friday Prayers Leader Seyed Ahmad Khatami stressed that the savage and devilish performance of the US President George W Bush has placed Republicans in a very critical condition.

Addressing a large fervent congregation of the worshippers on Tehran University Campus today, Khatami noted the upcoming US Congress elections and the decisive role that the election results will play on the next presidential elections in that country, and said, “The savage and devilish acts and performances of Bush, as a Republican, have placed his party in a very critical condition.”

There will be dancing in the “arab street” if the Dhimmis win ’06 and ’08. The “weak horse” (donkey, jackass, dhimm-pony, dhim-mule-crat) will be a welcome sight to the enemy and one step closer to world domination by islam.

On the other hand, maybe with dems in power they MIGHT just realize that now they hafta fight terrorism … naaaah.

Tony737 on October 28, 2006 at 4:51 PM

And I thought that guy putting up Demo candidate signs in my neighbporhood was just Mario Cuono with a newly-grown beard.

Hmmmmmm…….

I’ll yell “Allahu Akbar!” next time I spot him, and see how he reacts.

profitsbeard on October 28, 2006 at 5:37 PM

Osama doesn’t want us to pull out of just Iraq. He wants us to pull out of the planet Earth. The jihadists everywhere know that the Dhimmicrats are useful infidels and tacit allies in the ultimate victory of Islam.

Tantor on October 28, 2006 at 5:42 PM

I cannot wrap my head around the whole stance of the democrat party. Why cannot leftists see the problem? Not only in this country, but around the world? I talk to leftists on other forums and they completely ignore what’s going on in the world. Republicans, Christians are the problem. It’s weird. Even when I point out that they are also destined for a headless end, should the Islamists win, they don’t even seem to care. I do not get it. Drives me nuts and makes me sad to think that they are more concerned with winning an election than the west surviving

lorien1973 on October 28, 2006 at 5:47 PM

Isnt the old cavecritter Osama due to endorse the Dems again next Friday? Remember it was a Friday before the last election when he released his”PLEASE dont reelect Bush” tape.

When Scheuer talks, I listen. He makes sense and scares me to death.

TheBigOldDog Thanks! I just missed it but it will repeat overnite and I plan to record it.

…removing your head from the exit point of your digestive tract is an arduous process requiring grit, effort and leverage. Most people so contorted think it better to leave it there.

Puritan1648 on October 28, 2006 at 7:20 PM

Why cannot leftists see the problem?

…I just made a suggestion answering this question. See if it makes any sense to you.

Puritan1648 on October 28, 2006 at 7:22 PM

Puritan, that reminds me of a t-shirt I have, it shows a guy with his head up his ass and it says “Democrats’ point of view”.

Then on the back I had airbrushed: “BGM-109 Rockin’ Baghdad hit after hit”

Tony737 on October 28, 2006 at 7:35 PM

They have viewed Western Civilization as the enemy of the world for so long that they can’t abandone that paradigm at this time. They really believe we should be embarrassed to take our own side in this conflict.

Ironically, their prescriptions for a just society (Communism, socialism, multiculturalism, etc.) are all products of the West. To the extent that they have successfully exported these to the third world, they are the true imperialists.

Coyote D. on October 28, 2006 at 7:49 PM

I dub thee Michael Scheuer, Captain Obvious.

This “Bin Laden will rejoice at Democratic victory” is news? I thought that was just understood. A vote for Murtha is vote for Bin Laden.

E L Frederick on October 28, 2006 at 8:14 PM

Just like how it was an al qaeda victory in Spain when the lefties were voted in.

Dhimmitude.

Tony737 on October 28, 2006 at 8:55 PM

Bin Laden will rejoice at Democratic victory.

Now that’s ironic (and also self-evident), considering that Democrats would rejoice at a Bin Laden victory too. No, not all of them, and not generally out in the open, but you know they would if it hurt the President and got them back into power.

ReubenJCogburn on October 28, 2006 at 9:11 PM

I can’t say bin laden liked Clinton either, but certainly he and his jihadist brothers will feel a “moral” (can I use that word when talking about terrorists?) victory if the Dems are back in power.

thedecider on October 28, 2006 at 9:48 PM

Well, I’m sure they didn’t like Clinton on general principles because he’s an American citizen, but I bet they sure liked the fact that for eight years he let them use our people, our barracks, our embassies, the World Trade Center, and one of our ships for target practice without doing a damn thing worthwhile to stop them. I mean, if you’re Al-Qaeda and you have enemies like Bill Clinton, who needs friends? Damn right they want the Democrats back in power!

ReubenJCogburn on October 28, 2006 at 9:57 PM

Let’s not be too quick to let Mr. Scheuer into the Big Tent.

After reading some reviews of his book over at Amazon.com I’ve decided the man has some really strange ideas.

For example; it seems that Mr. Scheuer believes that Al Qaeda is not a terrorist organization… but is [just] attempting to lead [the] global Muslim insurgency.

And that Osama bin Laden is neither an evil madman or a criminal [but is just] …. a highly competent, religiously motivated, charismatic leader who we had best take seriously.

Scheuer also seems to think that we should consider giving heed to at least some or perhaps all of Osama’s demands, which he states as: 1) End all aid to Israel, 2) Withdraw military forces from Afghanistan, Iraq, the Arabian Peninsula, and all Muslim territories 3) End U.S. support for the oppression of Muslims in China, Russia, India and elsewhere (as if we had any control over such things)… and finally 4) Replace U.S.-backed regimes in the Muslim world with Islamic regimes

Oh … and just one last thing, we need to restore Muslim control of the “Islamic world’s” energy resources to Muslims for the benefit of Muslims.

Oh gee Mr. Scheuer, is that really all we need to do to win? Wow, I can see that you have graduated with top honors from the French/John Kerry School of Military Strategy. In order to win, all we need is a hefty supply of white flags.

I think its safe to say that Michael Scheuer is no conservative, nor any friend to the Republican party. However, we may take some comfort in knowing that he is no longer providing consultation services to the CIA.

Maxx on October 28, 2006 at 10:59 PM

hmmm.. let’s see what our resident liberals have to say about this.

Starblazer on October 29, 2006 at 1:17 AM

like Sean Hannity keeps saying – “Democrats are pathetically weak on National Security”

Starblazer on October 29, 2006 at 1:18 AM

Not just “pathetically” Starblazer; historically as well. I have very real trepidations about the upcoming elections. I know the Republicans have screwed up and Bush is not a fiscal conservative, but the Dems are notoriously feeble on national security. Now is not the time for spinelessness and wishy-washy debates with tyrants.

thedecider on October 29, 2006 at 1:35 AM

Careful Scheuer.

If you start focusing on the threat of the U.S. Government kowtowing to the “Saudi Lobby” and “preferring to protect its Arab, arms-buying buddies at the cost of American corpses” Buchanan, Soros and DU are going to start calling you a neocon.

It’s rich AP — Scheuer as the new neocon.

Here it is more than 24 hours later and our resident liberals HAS SAID SQUAT about this!

Honora, GregH, and Constantine know damn well that their party is the party of surrender, appeasement, and treason in America today. We know it too.

God help us if we can’t convince the rest of America that voting Democrat is voting for watching Cleveland go up in a mushroom cloud, as O’Reilly said on Oprah.

Sorry Georgej, I was off having my life.

So the deal here is that bin Laden will be doing cartwheels should the Dems win? This is a serious discussion? You boys need to get some new material.

honora on October 30, 2006 at 11:31 AM

Honora, GregH, and Constantine know damn well that their party is the party of surrender, appeasement, and treason in America today. We know it too.

Got a question for you georgej: if the Democrats are the party of treason, does that mean Democrats or people who vote for Democrats are treasonists?

honora on October 30, 2006 at 11:33 AM

Only by default ‘honora’

Kinda’ like all the passengers jumping to their deaths before the captain goes down with the ship.

Bin Laden, his lieutenants and their allies are no doubt pleased by the destruction of the Spanish and Thai governments and the exhilarating message it sends to the worldwide Islamist movement: The infidels are weak, politically divided, terrified of using full military power and think we can be appeased. In short, war works; keep at it.

Even so, bin Laden, et. al, know the biggest prize looms just ahead — the chance that the Republican Party will be ousted from one or both houses of Congress. There are many factors contributing to this possibility: the Foley abomination, other corruption cases, the trumped?up “crisis” over First Amendment rights and the administration’s ill-informed and ham-fisted handling of the Iraq and Afghan wars. If the Republicans are ousted, pundits on both sides of the aisle will find the causes strictly in America’s navel.

But what will bin Laden and his Islamist allies think? Well, if Republican defeat comes to pass, they will first thank the Almighty — “Allahu Akhbar!” or “God is the greatest!” — for tangible proof of approaching victory. In Spain, Thailand, and Britain — where Prime Minister Tony Blair suffered the fate of Messrs. Aznar and Thaksin for the same reason, but is leaving gracefully — al Qaeda and its allies see politicians winning power who argue: “The military option has been tried and it has failed. We must seek other-than-martial means to defuse the Islamists’ appeal and power.” As in Europe and Thailand, this has been the refrain of Sens. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Charles Schumer, Hillary Clinton, Rep. Jane Harman, and a swath of Republicans who value their seats more than U.S. security.

If Americans vote for what sounds like sweet reason from the Democrats, bin Laden and company will rejoice. What they will hear is the death knell for any prospect of effective U.S. military resistance to militant Islam. With the Republicans out, the Islamists will be confident that Democrats will deliver the best of both worlds: less emphasis on military force and a rigid maintenance of U.S. foreign policies that are hated with passion and near-unanimity by 1.3 billion Muslims. If Osama approved of music, he would be whistling “Happy Days Are Here Again!”
