Video: Lynne Cheney asks Blitzer, “Do you want us to win?”

posted at 6:48 pm on October 27, 2006 by Allahpundit

Hugh Hewitt’s already demanding a blogswarm about this. I can’t show you most of it, including the contentious exchange about her husband’s alleged waterboarding comments, but I did include her response to Jim Webb — whom the Traditional Values Coalition is now calling upon to withdraw from the race.

The Situation Room re-airs at 7 p.m. so tune in and watch the whole thing. It was like this for the duration, except for the very brief interval where they talked about what she was ostensibly there to talk about — her new children’s book.

Speaking of media outlets and terrorist propaganda…

Update: Video of the full interview is now available at CNN.com.

Update: O.C. Chronicle has a snippet of the lesbian passage from Lynne Cheney’s book “Sisters.”

Go Lynn! Go Lynn! It’s your birthday! Go Lynn!

This is what I’m talking about, ladies and gentlemen. Beat those scuzzy donks at their own game!

gryphon202 on October 27, 2006 at 6:54 PM

Let’s nominate Lynn for president in ’08! That’ll shake up Shillary for sure!

kevcad on October 27, 2006 at 6:56 PM

This is the best spinning/deflection the dems have done so far.

BlueStateBlues on October 27, 2006 at 6:57 PM

Is Lynne Cheney running for office?

Am I missing something here?

The Ugly American on October 27, 2006 at 6:57 PM

Wolf Blitzer: “bactine and some band-aids please”

quax1 on October 27, 2006 at 6:58 PM

Hmmm…. can you say a well contrived ambush? By a very partisan “serious journalist”?

And they still try to pass the Jihadist snuff film as news????

Me thinks they both protest too much….

Romeo13 on October 27, 2006 at 6:59 PM

Wow. One tough lady. I think she could take Wolf Blitzer.

MS. CHENEY: Wolf, either we talk about my new book or I gonna bust you up in the parking lot afterward.
BLITZER: (eyebrows raise, lips quivering) So your new book. Tell me about it.

Lone Star on October 27, 2006 at 7:00 PM

This seems like a mighty long trip around the merry-go-round.

Heheheheheheheheh….

Is Lynne Cheney running for office?

The Ugly American on October 27, 2006 at 6:57 PM

EXACTLY. What the heck does she have to do with Webb? What a weird attempt at a come back from a very weird dude-”yeah, I know how I’ll deflect this issue…I’ll say that the Vice President’s wife did something sort of similar!”

What does WEBB’s wife have to say about all this? Who cares? Sheesh.

NTWR on October 27, 2006 at 7:06 PM

It’s ABOUT TIME someone had the guts to get out there and challenge the liberal dinks.

Way to go Mrs. Cheney!!!

Dr. Gecko on October 27, 2006 at 7:08 PM

The screenshot of Cheney is great. That’s the sort of look you give a grandchild as you’re telling them why they shouldn’t put a cookie in the VCR slot. Blitzer is such a tool.

NTWR on October 27, 2006 at 7:09 PM

I agree, but I think she looks like she’s about about to open up a can of whoop-A. Like she’s saying, “You want your a** kicked, you pompous little turd?!”

Lone Star on October 27, 2006 at 7:14 PM

I have the same question that NTWR and The Ugly American do.

Is Lynne Cheney a public political figure? I mean, really, what is the point of asking the spouse of a politician for political analysis?

I’m not really aware of Lynne Cheney being involved in politics.

Now I can understand asking Bill Clinton about Hilary Clinton, not because he is the spouse of a Senator, but because he inserts himself into the public, political arena all the time. So asking him about Hilary seems acceptable.

I will admit that Lynne showed real spine, and an awareness of political events that belied her status as just a spouse, but still, I don’t know how I feel about going after her to ask these sorts of questions.

Is she actually a memeber of any sort of PAC or political committee or advisory board, or anything political aside from being Dick Cheney’s wife?

EFG on October 27, 2006 at 7:16 PM

Wolf Blitzer ( why he picked that name,?? it used to be a mixed drink made from 3 week old stale egyptian vodka and dog piss)
I used to just avoid and dislike this schmuck.
NOW, I really despise him.
What a loser. Picking on a woman that wrote a childrens book , twisting it for political gains on what was supposed to be a news channel. What a horrible human being he has become.

NTWR on October 27, 2006 at 7:19 PM

I love how Mrs. Cheney asks Blitzer where the video comes from and he’s says, “We got the film…, look this is an issue…”

I wonder why Wolf didn’t want to answer that question…

Greg Tinti on October 27, 2006 at 7:19 PM

Okay, okay. So I need to “revise and extend my remarks,” as they say up on the hill.

Lynn Cheney is not running for office. I know this. She should be running for something. I know this, as well. And every true-blue red-blooded republican should take a page out of Lynn’s playbook in how to deal with no-talent, pseudojournalistic democratic hacks like Wolf Blitzed-her.

gryphon202 on October 27, 2006 at 7:23 PM

Shooter, Wolf Blitzer is many things.

But that guy has the cooolest name ever.

Wolf. Who wouldn’t like to have that for a first name? It sounds like you should be commanding the Panzer tank as it punches through France in the Blitzkreig. Which leads to his last name…

Blitzer. Sounds like blitz. Which is about the coolest thing you can do when playing defense on football. Blitzing the quarterback. Nothing sweeter.

You put them together and it sounds like a cartoon characters name out of G.I. Joe or something.

It’s just got that ring to it.

After all, what would you rather be named?

Wolf Blitzer?

Or Herbert Throckmorton?

I mean, just the name alone sounds like it belongs on Fox News.

Think about it….

(Dramatic music plays)

Voice over: And now, live from Baghdad, in the heart of the Sunni Triangle of Death, Fox News brings you a special report from….Wolf Blitzer.

In a fair world, in a just world, this would be the case.

EFG on October 27, 2006 at 7:26 PM

Voice over: And now, live from Baghdad, in the heart of the Sunni Triangle of Death, Fox News brings you a special report from….Wolf Blitzer.

In a fair world, in a just world, this would be the case.

But we all know this isn’t a fair world, so guys like Blitzed-her work for CNN, and we get the anchors named Bill and Shep. *shrug* I’ll take competence over flare anyday.

gryphon202 on October 27, 2006 at 7:32 PM

OK, Wolf just said, regarding the sniper video, “It’s not terrorist propaganda” and “We said it was terrorist propaganda” – (paraphrasing)

mikeyboss on October 27, 2006 at 7:35 PM

WOW – Thank God Lynn Chaney is not my Grandma – i would never have survived her ass kickin! She is my hero- Blitzer sounded like a little child mumbling away!

iam7545 on October 27, 2006 at 7:44 PM

Lou Dobbs just licked Wolf’s wounds for him:

“it is revealing how Power bristles when truth is spoken to power. You did a great job, Wolf.”

or something close to that.

BlueStateBlues on October 27, 2006 at 7:45 PM

Lynne, you GO, lady!
Glad she took the gloves off and in a very lady-like, but firm way, let him have it!!!
YEA!!!
“Wolf, do you want us to win?”
Can you even believe that the 2nd Lady of the United States has to ask a global (but American) “news” network this question in wartime?
Before I watched this, I saw the CNN babe interview a pretty girl whose husband had been killed in action in Iraq; she asked this war widow if she (and her diseased husband) “supported the war!”Ha-ha, because the lady said both she and her husband did indeed support the war, bless her heart.
Can you imagine this happening during WWII? or any other war we’ve been involved in?
I hate living in these times, I really do.

Jen the Neocon on October 27, 2006 at 7:46 PM

Thankfully I saw this here just a couple of minutes before that interview reaired else I’d have missed it….CNN and particularly Blitzer being way removed from my normal viewing. Who knew what a little firecracker she is? That was an amazing slapdown. Why aren’t the Repubs using her more? Go Lynn! I sincerely wish that more of them had the integrity to call a spade a spade as she just did……Blitzer looked somewhat stunned by it all throuout. Wonderful to watch him try to grasp that she was actually refuting his nonsense, and on his own show! LOL

dustoffmom on October 27, 2006 at 7:48 PM

gryphon202 on October 27, 2006 at 7:32 PM

Yeah, you’re right. Although maybe Rupert Murdoch should require all his news anchors to legally change their names to something cool.

Nah, the ACLU would be all over us. Forget it. We’ll just have to stick with competance.

EFG on October 27, 2006 at 7:51 PM

They are trying to do damage control on the Webb fiasco by saying Lynn Cheney’s book has lesbian sexual scenes. However, HH read the passage in question from her book on his show and there is nothing sexual or even lesbian about it.

EF on October 27, 2006 at 7:52 PM

That lady has more brass than most of the Men in our government right now. What a great job she did. She is “always prepared” for Wolf’s unfair questions.

Just go ahead and put one across the plate, Blitzer. She’ll knock it back down your throat.

Mrs. Vice, you made my day.

Subsunk

Subsunk on October 27, 2006 at 7:54 PM

Nothing like the old democrat attack family members. Wolf does not have the balls to talk to the Vice President like that.

Wade on October 27, 2006 at 7:55 PM

I actually thought that her response was weak and dodgy until the end where she said “I have nothing to explain, Webb has a lot to explain.” She should have made the point “I’m not running for senate, idiot”.

However, her repeated use of the word “baloney” implicitly refuted the charge that she wrote explicit scenes–I mean, come on… she says “baloney”–so there is that I guess.

DaveS on October 27, 2006 at 7:57 PM

Is it me or was Wolf speaking to Lynne Cheney in a condescending tone?

– Defending the airing of terrorist propaganda and speaking down to the Vice-President’s wife — This is CNN

Opinionnation on October 27, 2006 at 7:57 PM

Think Lynne Cheney would whine about a “Liberal Hit-job” like Clintoon? Nah, she has more class than that and handled herself like a lady.

Wolf is just sad… He does the liberal cha-cha very well though but mostly just a poor excuse for a human.

x95b10 on October 27, 2006 at 8:02 PM

Is Mrs Chaney running for office, or going to assume an elective office after the Vice Prez retires? Mrs. Chaney is a former cabinet official. No one elected Mrs. Chaney, nor does she hold a public office, nor is she on the government payroll as far as I know of, unless she is collecting a pension, health benifits etc, but that has no effect on what she does or did as far as being a novelist. Mr Webb is running for public office, going to vote on laws that have to do with moral issues. We look at his writings to decide if we should vote for him. Mrs Chaney, who gives a damn what she wrote. Not to knock her or anything, she can be a porn star in another life, thats her biz, she doesn’t represent or is going to represent anyone.

StuLongIsland on October 27, 2006 at 8:03 PM

Lynn should have accidentally thrown her chair in Wolfies face.

fogw on October 27, 2006 at 8:08 PM

“Do you want us to win?”

“Uh, well, we just report the news, and um, uh, we don’t take sides, because uh, we’re professional journalists and our ethics won’t allow us to and um, our morals dictate us and well, um, uh blah blah blah…”

Hey Wolfie, think of it in terms of job security. Where ya gonna work when the islamo fanatics rule this nation? If you’re lucky, you’ll be cleaning their asses five times a day when they’re facing east to mumble at their heathen false god. That’s IF they don’t kill you, they’re known to kill the weakest first.

vcferlita on October 27, 2006 at 8:41 PM

SOrry, but I really want beat Wolf’s ass…

What a jerkoff.

But let’s move on to another topic, such as Wolf’s cabana boys tha the has had numerous trysts with over the last two weeks.

benrand on October 27, 2006 at 8:54 PM

I love how Mrs. Cheney asks Blitzer where the video comes from and he’s says, “We got the film…, look this is an issue…”

Yeah, I caught that too.

The Ugly American on October 27, 2006 at 9:17 PM

Did you notice how WOlf had some DNC publicity right at hand?

VERY INTERESTING.

“Wait, I have right here from the DNC, I mean, from most people in America, a sheet of paper that says…”

What a jerkoff.

benrand on October 27, 2006 at 9:27 PM

Wolf also answered, “Yes” to her question “do you want us to win?” Then when asked about the video he says they’re “objective.”

Which is it Wolf: for America or “neutral”?

Jimmy Carter on October 27, 2006 at 9:40 PM

After the interview aired the second time, it became clear that Blitzer is trying desperately to make this his Clinton/Fox News meltdown equivalent.

I would not be surprised if this interview was chopped up and repackaged to make her look bad, and talked about all weekend on CNN.

BlueStateBlues on October 27, 2006 at 9:41 PM

If only Bush had done this to Kerry during the debates….

EricPWJohnson on October 27, 2006 at 9:59 PM

BlueStateBlues: If that was an edited chop-up to make her look bad, then CNN editors really suck, or Mrs. Cheney absolutely slayed the Wolf.

.

The Machine on October 27, 2006 at 10:05 PM

Sorry, Machine, I meant to say the I would not be surprised if it is chopped up and repackaged for weekend fodder.

I watched the whole hour of Situation Room at 7pm, and he was really hyping the interview. He showed the whole thing, then ripped apart almost everything she said so that he could save face. He even had a reporter look up her book on Amazon, but would not google search the passage in question.

This, I think, is the passage in her book.

This was an ambush, plain and simple. I just hope the MSM has the decency to report the correct story.

BlueStateBlues on October 27, 2006 at 10:17 PM

I wouldn’t have expected anything different from the Communist News Network (CNN). Lynne Cheney stuck Wolf Blitzer with her fork, and he turned red and squealed like a Ted Turner pig that he is. Lynne Cheney’s question to him and CNN has merit: “ Who do you want to win?”

CNN does what it always does best, shill for the DNC, and/or the hate America crowd. And no Wolf, clearly you and most of the ilk at CNN aren’t good Americans. And yes Wolf, President Bush has done a woefully lousy job on our Southern borders, and the only person that reports from CNN that deserves thumbs up and credit on that issue, is Lou Dobbs…for sure not you!

WEll I was watcing the timer and I think is was a whopping 2 minutes near the end that she got to say something and then Wolf disingenuously asks at about 9:20 of the interview how Cheneys health is. Wolf, you were a big time weasel on this one and yet Lynn ate your lunch AND your dinner. For a year you asshole.

What a little slime ball Blitzer is. Unbiased, heh. I’d like to see him ambush Hillary like that. Like that will ever happen.

mesablue on October 28, 2006 at 12:23 AM

So…can CNN back-up this bit of hard hitting TV journalism with equally hard hitting footage of their Hilary and “It Takes a Village” interview?

And with this interview can we now officially say that Bill Clinton is a big pussy?

Because Chris Wallace asked Bill Clintonone quasi softball and OBVIOUS question–one you’d think a previous President — with his brilliance and intellect -could answer with no problem–and Clinton, his staff and about 5837 liberal bloggers looooosssssttttt it…even our GOP ***Second*** Ladies have more stones than Bill Clinton! She took on more and gave more than Bill Clinton is capable of, I guess.

BTW…I registered my disgust at CNN by buying Lynn’s book…you all should too!

Topsecretk9 on October 28, 2006 at 12:24 AM

CrimsonFisted on October 27, 2006 at 11:07 PM

Well spoken. I wholeheartedly agree. Amazing how Dick Cheney’s DECADES of public service have somehow (by means of water-boarded logic) been turned into a liability by the media instead of the incredible asset his years of expertise represent.

Left_Behind on October 28, 2006 at 1:11 AM

Lynn Cheney is what liberal women aspire to be, and poor ole Wolf got more than he could handle. Blame that on the liberal belief that republican women are easy to beat pick on.

That should be the republican catch phrase of the season as it is the most relevant response to the anti-war crowd’s rhetoric. I have Do you want us to win?yet to see any political pundit liberal reporter look comfortable when asked that question.

The Traditional Values Coalition is now calling upon Webb to withdraw from the race. Fantastic! We needed something to get the christian conservatives riled up, and along with the NJ court supporting homosexual marriage these revelations might just put republicans over the top. I guess Allen’s revealing the nasty lil sexual reference from Webb’s book was a pretty good idea after all.

OK conservatives. We have about 1 week left, and it is time to ask yourselves the question. Do you want us to win?

Liberals and Democrats are good at that, aren’t they.

But, I’d pay good money to watch Dick Cheney give Blitzer 15 minutes of whoop-ass, with a complimentary waterboarding thrown in at the end.

Update: O.C. Chronicle has a snippet of the lesbian passage from Lynne Cheney’s book “Sisters.”

And that has what to do with anything? Except balancing some unseen scales.

AP, what is your issue?

Ugly on October 28, 2006 at 5:53 AM

The only thing that could have made this better is if she said something like

“… and you’re sitting there with your little smirk, and you think you’re so clever.”

(don’t think the HotAir audience needs me to explain that reference)

RightWinged on October 28, 2006 at 7:07 AM

That there is no balancing. CNN is trying to equate the trash Webb wrote with this passage in Lynn Cheney’s nove. It’s a lie.

EF on October 28, 2006 at 8:59 AM

This should be required viewing for many of our spineless congressmen. It’s a perfect model for responding to the biased and idiotic questions regularly posed by the MM. Unfortunately; very few of our elected representatives have the intelligence and class Mrs. Cheney.

Lynn in ’08 would be great.

BuckLEA on October 28, 2006 at 9:23 AM

Most folks have asked, is she running?

After seeing this and recalling very few other interviews I’ve heard with her, I most definitely would ask her to consider it. She’s one helluva woman.

I’d vote for her in a heartbeat.

What a great slapdown.

By the way, I’m pretty sure I used to read Wolf when he was a stringer for the Jerusalem Post back in the ’70s. Tough name to forget.
