Video: Dixie Chicks blame Freepers, fundies for downfall; Update: Chicks slammed — on their own blog

On last night’s edition of HardSoftball, Chris Matthews hosted The Dixie Chicks. Maines blamed Free Republic’s Nixonian “hate list;” band member Martie Maguire referred to conservative Internet users on F/R as “fundamentalist” Christians.

They insult their audience, insult the President, blame Free Republic, and still wonder why people don’t like them. Emily Robison chimed in and blamed–*gasp*–corporate America for ordering local music stations to stop playing their music. When will these dolts understand that they caused their own downfall? Not “fundamentalist” Christians, not Free Republic, not corporate America.

After a commercial break, (not shown in video) host Chris Matthews attacked those against the Dixie Chicks for “obedience.” Obedience to what, Chris? I suppose the Dixie Chicks’ demise is yet another Krazy Karl Konspiracy.

Update (Allahpundit): Here’s what happens when you open posting privileges to the public:

I am an Iraqi Freedom Veteran by choice. The leaders of our nation asked for warriors and like so many before and now with me I answered our nations call. I exercised my free speech by once again taking the oath to defend everyone else’s, including the Dixie Chicks, whose idea of being silenced is decreased record sales.

You can rip on the President all you want. But as I recall, sitting alone in a chow hall Thanksgiving day 2003 and reflecting on the friends I wasn’t able to save, a man who I am proud of, who believes in the fight we are in for our survival, made me so proud as he broke bread with us in Iraq, his name is George W. Bush. To this day when I think of that moment and all the things I was feeling I still fight back tears, having witnessed the love of this man for his soldiers he puts in harms way, and that is nothing I will ever be ashamed of.

Go to hell Dixie Chicks!

Update (Allahpundit): Here’s the movie ad that NBC won’t air, which brilliantly links the Chicks’ declining popularity to the absence of WMDs in Iraq.

Well, that, and they think their status as musicians gives them “special insight” into American politics. Like every “artist” since 1965.

They also appear to have this crazy notion that everyone is required to buy their records, agree with their politics, and should shut up if they know what’s good for them.

I hope they keep fighting this losing battle. I really do.

I’ve always likes the music by the Dixie Chicks, my complaint with them was that they decided to insult their country, their state, their fans, and, whether they voted for him or not, their president…while in another country. Then when their fans called them on this, they played the victim card, which turned people off to them. I still listen to their old songs, but I refuse to buy any more of their music based on that. Like the ad on the right, they scream “Freedom of speech is fine, as long as you don’t do it in public.” What they don’t get is, you have every right to speak out about anything you want, but you DO NOT have the right to have everyone agree with you.

DakRoland on October 27, 2006 at 4:12 PM

They weren’t black listed by anyone other than their own fans.

Later in the clip they mention John McCain defending the idea that their music be played (listeners opinions be damned)….someone save that video for ‘08.

DwnSouthJukin on October 27, 2006 at 4:13 PM

Playing the victim card is so freaking juvenile. Whiny little crybabies.

infidel4life on October 27, 2006 at 4:14 PM

They have the right to free speech, but we have the right not to pay for their microphones if we don’t like what they are saying, that is the point they are missing. They want to shoot off their mouths like they did when they were playing the punk rock clubs but still get paid the mainstream rock money. Poor babies. If they didn’t have tits they would still be playing for beer in some dive in Austin.

I hope they just keep whinning. That will insure their demise. Something to look forward to. Their manager was on The Factor and he’s just as ignorant of their wrongs as they are. If you look closely the two sisters are beginning to see thru Maime’s leftist reasoning. They’re starting to grab at the vines on the way down. So far the vines are breaking off.

They weren’t black listed by anyone other than their own fans.

Exactly, and what do you expect when you call your fans “rednecks”? Cheers?

I wish they would grow up. They are not victims. Their fans were simply exercising their right to free speech, or is it only supposed to go one way?

Esthier on October 27, 2006 at 4:28 PM

I’m thinking “Who’s gaining by your demise?”

Matthews needs to quit reading all that Truther nonsense, their primary “argument” of “who stands to gain?” seems to have seeped into his head.

I can’t believe this guy is taken seriously as a pundit anymore.

They have the right to freedom of speech, and we have the right not to buy their crappy records.

Exactly.

They understand that country’s core audience is by-and-large patriotic and right-leaning. Why is such a big jump for them to accept that taking an unpopular stance with their base could lead to decreased record sales?

If there’s a big corporate machine suppressing those who have the daring to stand up and speak against the Bush administration or OIF, why are bands such as Green Day moving tons of product such as ‘American Idiot’?

Citizen Duck on October 27, 2006 at 4:30 PM

You should’ve heard their manager on Hannity last night (I think it was Hannity). He was trying to claim that since radio stations used public air waves that they weren’t allowed to choose which songs they played over them.

Good point.

He was trying to claim that since radio stations used public air waves that they weren’t allowed to choose which songs they played over them.

You’ve got to be kidding me. If that were the case, I could start up a band today and claim radio stations have no right to silence me.

Radio stations are run for profit. They quit playing their songs because of consumer demands. End of story.

NBC is currently censoring a Dixie Chicks ad that would help the Republicans win in a landslide.

Write NBC and tell them to let the chicks speak out. It’s the American way.

ahem on October 27, 2006 at 4:40 PM

The Dixie Chicks’ manager was on Hannity and Colmes last night, blaming the “hard right” and persons like Hannity as well as blog sites like Free Republic for “Nazi” tactics in keeping them off the air. On one hand, the manager insisted that only a few listeners actually opposed the airing of their music on country stations and on the other hand he characterized country music fans as right-wing, ignorant and intolerant. When Hannity asked for his evidence that few listeners opposed the aiirng of the music, the manager claimed polls by the stations indicated that no more than 20% opposed the airing of the music. When the surprised Hannity asked for specific polls, the manager was flustered and could not give any; obviously his claim was made up.

As Hannity pointed out, the Dixie Chicks have made no move whatsoever to make up with the country crowd. Their statements on Hardball indicate they have no clue why country fans are so mad; i.e., it is not so much that they dissed the presidient as the fact they did it in a foreign location to suck up to the anti-Americans and Bush haters there.

I hope they enjoy their new fans on the left; the former ones, including me, are gone forever.

Therein lies the rub - The liberal idea of democracy…

He was trying to claim that since radio stations used public air waves that they weren’t allowed to choose which songs they played over them.

And because we breathe public air we have no right to chose to keep breathing if we disagree with them.

Boys and girls, liberalism = socialism.

Lone Star on October 27, 2006 at 4:46 PM

It’s the marketplace, stupid.

It’s not about free speech; it’s not about pro- or anti- Bush/war/liberals/conservatives/abortion/life/2ndAmendment/guncontrol…

It’s about salesmen and customers.

When a salesman (artist) walks into a customer’s office (stage) and shoots his (her) mouth off about their strident view on religion/politics/whatever, for or against, pro or anti, doesn’t matter. It’s a near certainty the salesman (artist) will piss off roughly 50% his (her) customers (audience/fans).

The insulted customer (audience/fan) is almost guaranteed to vote with their wallet, and rightly so. No one wants to do business with an arrogant and conceited salesman (artist) polluting an otherwise amiable environment with a needless diatribe.

Music may be many things but in the context of this discussion it is a business. It has customers who prefer its products for which they pay hard-earned money. Business professionals understand this market dynamic and work hard to ensure the selling environment is conducive to marketing the product. Or, at least, do not conscientiously do or say things to cause that environment to become hostile to them or their products. Professionals intuitively know this can only have a negative impact on sales. Amateurs blithely ignore the marketing aspects of what they do and say in front of their customers and then become confused and bewildered when they don’t get the order.

The relationship between salesman and customer is inherently unfair; the customer has all the power. To repair the rift, the professional salesman swallows his pride (no matter how unfair he may think this is), apologizes to the customer and saves the business for himself and the company. The Amateur becomes incensed, blames the customer for being bigoted, unreasonable, closed-minded, whatever; then attempts to deflect blame away from themselves by obfuscating the issue with irrelevant and erroneous arguments (freedom of speech).

Freedom of speech is not in dispute here. These Chicks can say whatever they please, anywhere, anytime. But this whining about persecution and unfair treatment is asinine beyond belief.

Bob’s message to the Dixie Chicks:

You want to shoot your mouth off in public, knock yourself out; but don’t whine when your customers stop buying your product. If you don’t care about the customers that don’t share your political views and you don’t care if they buy your product and you think you can make up the marketshare in San Francisco; stop the sniveling, be honest and tell them you don’t want their business and take the box-office loss like Beccy Cole, a real professional, did. Just get over yourself.

The dixie chicks know that the only way they’re going to have any kind of career is if they do the liberal martyr routine. It bores the hell out of normal people, but those on the left dream of the day when they can call themselves a victim.

“since radio stations used public air waves that they weren’t allowed to choose which songs they played over them.”

I saw that too, the most ridiclous BS yet. Wasn’t he English? Stupid manager, no wonder they’re ruining themselves. If they would suck it up, appologize for dissin’ our President from another country, they might have a chance. This of course is way late, but if they continue, they will ruin themselves.
Arrogance and EGO have ruined many, and like the others, they really don’t get it.

BohicaTwentyTwo on October 27, 2006 at 4:53 PM

Very simple: They have the right to say the most jack-assed and vile things and we (Consumers) have the right to tell you to STFU and we have the right to defenestrate your products.

The government hasn’t the right to abridge their free speech rights but we the people can tell them to bite our collective asses.

They refer to a black list. What about socialist Hollywood’s list.

First of all I do not believe that entertainers should have the right to say whatever whenever until the rest of us has the same access to the media.

In addition, isn’t it hypocritical of the left who feel they can say whatever they want, but that no one other than other leftists are aloud to comment.

I really can’t stand the Dixie Chicks. I didn’t like what they said about Bush, but I was revolted by their handling of the public backlash.

Basically, they seem to think they are allowed to say whatevver they want, and disagree with anyone they want, but no-one is allowed to disagree with them, or say anything bad about them.

Free speach for thee, but not for me, eh Dixie Chicks?

Another annoying thing is how much they will tailor their speech for a foreign audience, yet act surprised when it gets back to America and some of us take offense.

Several months ago, they did some article for the Telegraph, and they said in black and white that they didn’t see the need for patriotism. Yeah, you might feel some loyalty to your neighbors, but to your country? Why?

Well, you said it Natalie, you reap it.

EFG on October 27, 2006 at 5:03 PM

What the hell is wrong with these idiots? What don’t they understand? They and their defenders whine about free speech, but then throw a fit about people criticizing them not buying or playing their music. Is that not free speech and the free market? Does anyone get what I’m saying? I’m just stunned that anyone can be this fricken’ stupid. It wasn’t like Bush jailed them for saying something… they were punished by the consumers, period.

RightWinged on October 27, 2006 at 5:03 PM

If they’re worried about their “free” speech, let ‘em stop charging for their product. Their speech would really be free, then.

After all, they had their say. Nobody stopped ‘em, is stopping ‘em, or would stop ‘em from speaking or performing or flogging their rubbish. They’re just running smack into depressed demand in reaction to what they’ve said…including what they’ve said about their fans, their intended market.

Prior to the release of their latest CD, there was word that they wanted to be more of a cross-over act, no doubt seeing the reaction of their erstwhile country fans to Ms. Maines’ bratty utterances. They wanted to work on their appeal, trying more for the Bruce Springsteen demographic, producing different stuff.

They can’t blame it on corporate radio. Their tour schedule was widely publicized and folks just didn’t buy tickets. This isn’t dastardly execs, Freepers conspiring or pastors pounding pulpits. This was a case of fans not wanting to see ‘em perform. Would you want to go through all the trouble from babysitting to the cost of tickets to take your significant other out to a concert to see folks perform who’d expressed disdain for who you are and what you think?

I’m sure that it’s a splendid rush performing in front of thousands of applauding fans, but they — and their smarmy manager and Weinstein and all their hangers on — are in it for the bucks. They can’t whine money out of my pocket, and shame on you if they can whine money out of you.

There’re lots of celebrities on my own personal “no-buy” list: Jane Fonda, for one, and George Clooney, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Bill Maher, Madonna (because she’s tacky), and Janeanne Garofolo (because she’s the un-funniest “comedienne” on the market today). On the other hand, I like Martin Sheen, Danny Glover, Mike Fox, Alec Baldwin and Whoopi Goldberg…within the strict bounds of their performance. But, that’s just me.

I like what Larry the Cable Guy said: theirs is a patriotic fan base. Saying what they’ve said (to which they’ve steadily added offense on top of offense) is like going through a trailer park with a bullhorn announcing that Wal*Mart sucks.

…it’s like wipin’ before you poop…it jus’ don’ make sense….

They never learn- Matthews and the Dixie Chicks don’t get it. Freedom of speech allows us to speak our mind and express our views. I am sure that if the CHICKS would have expressed their opinion of the war in a polite, rspectful manner they would have kept their fans. Being smug, insulting and disrespectful crosses the line. They got what the deserved.

We all have “Freedom of Speech”.

We also all have “Freedom of Choice”.

I CHOOSE not to listen to their music, buy their CD’s, or attend their concerts ever again. As does my girlfriend, almost all my friends, and my kids. No incitement from 3rd parties or orders from Dad. We all CHOSE to dump the Dixie Chicks becuase of their own actions. Most of us also CHOOSE to exercise that same God given right regarding anyone and everyone and everything we CHOOSE to disassociate ourselves from when it comes to so-called ‘celebritys’ and a whole host of entertainment/entertainers.

There’s no conspiracy or “brainwashing”. The Dixie Chicks are the cause of their own demise. Three vapid bubbleheads burning for the spotlight, and I’ll not feel one iota of sympathy for them or anyone else of their ilk.

One thing’s for certain, if they end up not being able to make any more money as ‘entertainers’, they could always become ditch diggers. They’re damn good at digging holes.

I remember when The Dixie Chicks just made it big and 60 minutes or somebody did an interview with them. Natalie said most people think I’m a “millionaire.” But “I don’t even have a million dollars in the bank.” They were mad at their record labels who had made them famous! This was before all the anit-Bush garbage. And if they seem to know their original target audience so well why did they try to make money of the God fearing, rifle Hugg’n, Nascar folks? Most people will look past entertainers opposing political beliefs but when you shoove it down their throat their gonna spit it back at ya.

If these three idiots truly beleive that the music that they have made in the past did not cater predominantly to the “country music folks”, all they need to do is take a look at their previous videos and the footage from their concerts and they would have a good idea who their fan base is was. I’m stumped, absolutely stumped. The Dixie Chicks keep bashing America and Bush and even the concept of patriotism and their record sales keep plummeting. How could that be? What could be behind that? It’s just a complete mystery to me.

All I know for sure is that somehow Bush is to blame.

Tantor on October 27, 2006 at 6:02 PM

I take what might be an unpopular stand here on HotAir. I personally support the Dixie Chicks right to say what they feel. I just wish they’d support my right not to buy their CD’s, watch their movie or give them the time of day. If hollywood wants to know what support the troops means they just need to visit here. Bob Hope supported the military for almost six decades. Bob Hope was there for the troops. From WW II to Desert Storm Mr. Hope’s only mission was to entertain those who were away from home in difficult conditions. He didn’t care whether the war was “popular” or not it was all about the troops. The US Navy now has a ship named in his honor the USNS Bob Hope. The US Air Force named a C-17 “The Spirit of Bob Hope”. Somehow I don’t see these honors being bestowed upon the dixie chicks any time in the near future.

About that banned TV ad, from Drudge:

Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company stated, “It’s a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America. The idea that anyone should be penalized for criticizing the president is sad and profoundly un-American.”

Courageous entertainers? I think I threw up a little bit in my mouth.

“I think of Toby Keith singing that song — remember how you felt…”

Showprep, Chris… showprep. Toby Keith sang “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.” I believe the song in question was by Darryl Worley (Have You Forgotten?).

I guess they’ve got their wish of ” a few really cool fans, who get it” rather than a bunch of fans…

Sooo, does Laura Ingraham get royalties on this movie OR WHAT?

NTWR on October 27, 2006 at 7:36 PM

What I’ve loved about this debacle from the very start is just how perfectly our constitutional system of democracy and our free market economy has functioned.

The Dixie Chicks had (and have) free reign to air their repugnant, ill-informed, sophomoric views; they are still (to their detriment) yakking away on the public airwaves.

And I (and the rest of you) then got to enjoy our own beautiful God-given American freedoms to respond to the mind-numbingly uneducated drivel falling out of their over-rated under-talented pie-holes.

And then (it even gets better!) the Reaganesque supply/demand laws functioned perfectly: as we all recognized the true nature of the product offered - demand fell.

Demand has remained low because of a basic cost-benefit paradigm: at present, the loathsome personal and political qualities of these ignorant imbeciles outweighs the quality of their music, thus demand remains suppressed. Trust me on one thing: if the music was so damn good that countless millions would buy it - no record producer or station manager would fail to promote it.

Free market capitalism at its finest.

All. Just. Perfect!

It works. Just the way it’s supposed to. Those who think otherwise, who look elsewhere for blame - are simply not understanding America. They’re being (gasp!) un-American. No, I don’t question their patriotism - I question their intellect.

And now they can keep squawking. And good (unappreciated) men will sadly continue to die to protect their brainwashed babble.

While I continue to laugh at them every single day.

God bless America, kids. God bless America. It’s working better than we give it credit for sometimes.

Professor Blather on October 27, 2006 at 7:41 PM

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that these talentless twist being famous is complete joke to begin with.

I see: it’s their own fault for daring to criticize a lying, incompetent President who’s dragged the nation into a moral, political and military quagmire. But of course, when Hot Air videos are deleted from YouTube, it’s a liberal conspiracy.

Constantine on October 27, 2006 at 8:47 PM

Is it just me, or is it ironic that a movie called “Shut Up & Sing” involves so little shutting up and singing?

…damnation, C…did you swallow a half-pound of party pamphlets…was it a dietary fiber issue? Stick to bran in future, ’cause it’s rotting your brain.

You prolly liked Slick Willy…and you talk about a “lying, incompetent President”….

Puritan1648 on October 27, 2006 at 9:30 PM

No, Puritan, I actually study what’s been happening in the country for the last 6 years. It helps me make distinctions between lying about a blowjob vs. lying about a war, budget surplus vs. record deficit, and what “human rights” really mean… you know, grownup stuff.

Constantine on October 27, 2006 at 9:40 PM

…well, by way of contrast, I’ve been out living “grownup stuff” for the 33 years since I left home, and know that often a man sees what he wants to see…for instance, Dick Nixon was accused and held guilty for things that Slick Willie actually DID.

…immoral military quagmire? All wars are immoral. They are the sum of all evils. The test of character is how you manage things…not cut and run (Somalia), bombing aspirin factories (Sudan)…get pressured into an actual quagmire by the Congressional Black Caucus (Haiti)…or run a high-altitude air show (Bosnia/Kosovo)…under the Clintons, our military live quagmire daily, filching repair parts off of static display museum tanks to repair first line vehicles.

Mr. Bush did what what Alexander the Great and Victoria’s colonial army could never do: his army fought its way into Afganistan and held sway. They did it in less than six weeks with little more than air power and a reinforced Special Forces battalion. It’s unravelled a bit — what do you expect from NATO? — but the achievement is one for the books.

Iraq? None of us has a bloody idea of what is going on in Iraq unless we’re hunkered in a GP Medium somewhere, tapping our responses on a dusty keyboard, ’cause our press is pulling out all the stops to feed folks like you what you want to hear.

Deficits, budgets, account book legerdemain? Unemployment’s kicked, the economy’s kicking, and I’ve had two tax rebates (which I spent on beer, as I remember). Your folks would have my town, state and country countenance perverse marriages WHETHER I WANT IT OR NOT, because an angry, loud minority feels as if its being picked on. Your crowd doesn’t seem to know which side of the flag you stand on. Your crowd doesn’t seem ready to support anything but calling anyone who agrees with your narrow reading of things villains…which is itself a low form of villainy.

…so, you keep eating those pamphlets, circulars, buttons, balloons and bumperstickers…chew ‘em 100 times like Momma said, so’s they digest well and don’t irritate the tummy…it’s all hate and fear and evil and racism and oppression on your side of the tracks. Don’t let that go. It’s what we love about you guys…your predictability….

Constantine on October 27, 2006 at 8:47 PM

Please tell me that you aren’t so stupid that you can’t tell the difference between a few liberals at Youtube censoring what millions of viewers get to see instead of letting them decide for themselves, and millions of consumers choosing not to buy Dixie Chicks CDs because they shot off their mouths and alienated their fan base. Is your head so far up your ass that you can’t tell that the former is antidemocratic and the latter is extremely democratic? As pretty much everybody in this thread said, the Dixie Chicks have the right to spout whatever moronic opinions they want. It’s a free country. But consumers also have the right to choose not to buy their CDs and concert tickets.

Apparently you missed all of that in your vast study of “what’s been happening in the country for the last 6 years”, dumbass.

ReubenJCogburn on October 27, 2006 at 10:12 PM

Constantine, I used to be a Chick fan til they opened their traps in the UK. You should buy their CD and go to their concerts because until you and your ilk get power and make me go, I will freely not.

SnowKat on October 27, 2006 at 10:13 PM

Dick Nixon was accused and held guilty for things that Slick Willie actually DID.
Meaning… Nixon was accused and held guilty for things he didn’t do? And what other impeachable offenses besides lying about the blowjob was Clinton guilty of?

…immoral military quagmire? All wars are immoral. They are the sum of all evils.
Was the struggle against Germany and Japan in WWII immoral? Most people would say not. No wonder this administration strains to compare their cardboard “war on terror” to that conflict.

The test of character is how you manage things…
Indeed. How well has this President managed things? Poorly, from start to finish.

not cut and run (Somalia)
Obviously, we should stay in every conflict until we feel we can declare victory, no matter how badly things have been botched, no matter how many American lives it costs, even if there’s no achieveable objective.

bombing aspirin factories (Sudan)
Actually and OBL base.

or run a high-altitude air show (Bosnia/Kosovo)
Air show? Nothing was accomplished? Or are you assuming that just because no Americans were killed?

under the Clintons, our military live quagmire daily, filching repair parts off of static display museum tanks to repair first line vehicles.
Clinton created a more modern army, based on better technology, and preserved soldiers’ lives. Perhaps you can reference any conditions under Clinton that soliders are not facing in Iraq, a full-on war– no armor for their vehicles, lack of equipment, etc.

What history will record was the CIA kicked ass in Afghanistan, and only needed a little help from the military in order to capture bin Laden… and they didn’t get it. Resources were diverted guess where? Sure, blame it on NATO.

Iraq? None of us has a bloody idea of what is going on in Iraq unless we’re hunkered in a GP Medium somewhere, tapping our responses on a dusty keyboard, ’cause our press is pulling out all the stops to feed folks like you what you want to hear.
Right. Everybody wants to hear about how badly things are going.

Or, good jobs are going overseas, the wealthy are getting more so and more of the middle class are getting squeezed downward. Last growth figure I saw was the slowest in 3 years. Apparently your self-righteous crowd gets to decide what is “perverse”, ignoring the fact that homosexuality has existed in humanity and nature since time began, and use it as a justification for persecuting the “perverts.” “My crowd” stands for truth, the rule of law and human rights, something your beloved President is ambiguous and confused about (at best).

And you keep spewing the bile, viciousness and namecalling that is the trademark of hardcore neocons. It remains easier to spot you that way.

Constantine on October 27, 2006 at 10:31 PM

…neocon! I’m cut to the quick!

I won’t bother to waste any more of people’s time than I already have today tit-for-tatting your tit-for-tat reply. That would only stretch this thread to unreadable lengths.

Reread my reply and then reread yours, and you’ll see that we fundamentally disagree…and, that’s OK with me. I don’t have to be right, and I don’t think I’m wrong…and nobody’s awarding points, anyway.

Anyway, a rereading might set you straight on the whole “bile, viciousness and namecalling” thing. If you’re lumping me in with other people who disturb your slumber, don’t. I’m like the Ghost of Christmas Present. “You’ve never seen the like of me before!”

If you’re not satisfied with the way things are going in the war or in the country, consider that the majority of the nation is running things right now (diatribes about Diebold and voter fraud are sure to follow, but that’s OK). You can always emigrate. The French need more immigrants from developed nations. Consider it. Think “free stinky cheese”.

For your info, though, having served in the military for the better part of a generation, and having been in a military family in and around special ops and maneuver divisions for 33 years or so, I know which military ops pass the smell test…and which don’t. Take my word for it or dismiss me as a neocon…profit by someone else’s experience or strike out on your own. It all depends on your attitudes on education…and on paying for education with pain….

You continue being you, Connie…I’ll keep bein’ me. I’m afraid that we’re both stuck. We might as well enjoy it.

Puritan1648 on October 27, 2006 at 10:44 PM

Man, I cannot believe the breathtaking combination of ignorance and arrogance it takes to tell a career military man who’s been on the sharp end that “Clinton created a more modern army, based on better technology, and preserved soldiers’ lives.” I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Constantine, that is just awesome. Awesomely stupid and ill-informed, but still awesome.

ReubenJCogburn on October 27, 2006 at 11:03 PM

What I find ironic about the whole Dixie Chicks debacle is that they got offended because President Bush very resaonably said well so what if people won’t buy their records? They rejected this arugment. It’s worth remembering that over the last six years the President has been constantly defamed, insulted and goaded by almost everyone. He has weathered onslaughts by foreign leaders like Jacques Chirac, anyone and everyone who considers themself Democrat and also bloodthirsty Islamist conquerors like Dr. Zawahiri and Adam Gadahn. George W. Bush has shown the kind of grace that isn’t expected from anyone else. He takes the high road even when all his opponents take the low road and insist its his fault.

Those weren’t the two things I was comparing. I was making the point that mocking the DC’s for having their commercial banned from network TV while simultaneously hand-wringing about Hot Air being dumped off YouTube is a bit hypocritical. Both of these forms of censorship are reprehensible.

No. It’s a natural consequence for espousing views contrary to those of the vast majority of the country music fan base.
