[...] Perish the thought that CBP might have a part to play in the war on terror. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees the Border Patrol, had offered to pay for the advertisment [in the Super Bowl program], which was part of a campaign to boost the number of agents by 18,000.

Limerick, or just enforce the existing immigration laws! Colorado’s Tancredo has made a virtual career out of that simple suggestion! He’s thinking about a 2008 Presidential run on that single issue “platform”.

And the truth is, we do NOT need new laws to overlook, we need to enforce the current laws. Each and every law enforcement agency should be able to do so, not just a tiny handful.
Stop the 'sanctuary cities' , build fences, allow for instant deportation, go after the companies that hire Illegals, go after the illegals. Yes, deport them, all we can find. It wont happen overnight, but it's better than letting them stay. Thousands of honest people are trying to get here the legal way. You spit in their faces, not me.
The economy will drive right thru a few price increases, produce will go up a little, etc.
We MUST do this.
The numbers from the pdf: 2003 and 2004 OTM's CAUGHT coming across the border 74,761. In 2005 and part of 2006 273,203..a 400% increase in a year and a half. And those are the ones we caught. How many terrorists made it thru? Mexicans AND OTM's
dozens? Scores? HUNDREDS????
We didnt use to shy away from projects because they were hard. (i.e. the moon landing).
We can not now.

Hell, this is the easy part. The hard part is what to do with the illegals who have already been here a while–I know the Pat Buchanan answer, “deport them”; how about an answer that’s actually doable??

honora on October 26, 2006 at 11:45 AM

Seemed pretty doable for Janet Reno when Elian Gonzales was in our country....
That's neither here nor there though. I believe in Attrition Through Enforcement.

The Congress is not the ones to go after! Congress PASSED HR 4437- the enforcement-only bill in December '05. (scroll to the bottom) It's an awesome bill without amnesty that goes after employers and enforces current laws. The SENATE weenies punted it and proposed the Amnesty bill (S. 2611 I think) in its place. You can compare the two here.

The Senate jerks who prosposed that joke are those who should be run outta the country.

Well you have no one to blame but the Republican party and George Bush. As a FORMER Republican and current Independant, I think Bush's failure to secure the southern border AFTER SEPTEMBER ELEVENTH, is an impeachable offense and has certainly made a mockery of the Republicans ALLEGED strengths in fighting terror. Just like they aren't all that Christian, they aren't all that strong.

(The following is from a post I did just before Memorial day, updated to be current with the upcoming election...)

Dear Mr. & Mrs. U.S. Citizen, FUCK YOU! Love, Your Government

"Since we in congress are nothing more than a bunch of self-serving, power-mad, intoxicated by our authority, lying, thieving bastards that could care less about the general populace because we know as long as we keep them fat, sated and stupid, they'll continue to maintain us in our priviledged ruling class positions over the peasants with their vote...

And knowing that if we talk loud and long enough about something it will appear to the ignorant masses, if they happen to look up from American Idiots long enough, that we are doing everything in our power to do something about the problem, when in fact, we still haven't done a fucking thing and won't do anything until we figure out how We, The Powerful, can profit most from it...

And since that pesky Democratic Process doesn't allow us to install ourselves as your Overlords for life, we can't do a fucking thing about illegal aliens before the election without pissing off those peons upon whom we depend for votes, and the thought of losing an election and having to go back out among the unwashed masses and get a real job scares the living shit out of us. But once we've secured our positions of power again, we'll get around to it. Honest Injun. But don't hold your breath.

And besides, we know that which ever side does the best job of hispandering can count on 12+ million new votes in the next election, and with things being so 50-50 the last few times out, we need every vote we can buy."

Latest Poll Numbers Show:

43% of Americans say that illegal immigration is a serious problem.

57% percent said, “No hablo inglés"

I thought (growing up in So. Cal.) that we absolutly needed immigrants to "do the work others won't". I moved to the south and what did I see, a car wash manned by college students, landscaping done by Americans, tables waited on by yound men and women. Amazing, college students working to support themselves while getting an education...how innovative.
Adios Illegals.

For 18 years I took a yearly trip down the Baja Pennisula. On the way down and back you are stopped numerous times (every hundred miles or so) had the truck or car searched, produce proper paperwork, visas, etc. all with 4 or 5 armed soldiers (very young men) plus two machine guns, one at each end of the "pullout". They were courteous but rigid, always asked some pertinent question to establish U.S. citizenship, and I felt no way could someone come up from Baja. The Mainland, complete opposite, you can drive several hundred miles with only one checkpoint, and then only a courtesy check.
FYI...

Hell, this is the easy part. The hard part is what to do with the illegals who have already been here a while–I know the Pat Buchanan answer, “deport them”; how about an answer that’s actually doable??

That is so easy that no one believes it will work. If you remove the jobs that ILLEGALS are getting then they will go home of their own accord. The few die hards will then be easy to deal with.

IMHO, Left-behind is right. Existing law allows us to hit businesses that employ ILLEGALS, and if we actually started doing that the rest would quickly capitulate. The undocumented workers would return to their countries en-masse, and those few who remained would be easy to handle.

I wonder if there is a method availiable to punish municipalities that harbor ILLEGALs ...

I tried both links, neither works (you have to be a subscriber). If you want to read the article, copy part of the quote, do a Google News search, and click on the link. Or you can just read the report.

The part about the Mexican cartels was interesting (and scary) too. I read an article based on that section of the report last night- Mexico's Cartel Wars: The Threat Beyond the U.S. Border (Not sure if the link will work, if not try this one). It says that the gangs and cartels are already in the US and committing violence, and that it will spread and get even worse.
Some extremely brutal executions of members of Los Zetas and Los Pelones by their contemporaries have occurred, including not only beheading but also a tactic called "necklacing," in which a tire is placed around a victim's neck and set ablaze. (The tactic was made famous by the African National Congress in South Africa)
So it's not just Islamic terrorists we need to worry about, it's Mexican gangs who are as brutal as terrorists.

Wow, that .PDF report is on a .Gov website... Just wow.

If you see the report and notice Ogrish.com; that site is a gore site and, well, viewer beware unless you have the stomach for it.

Also, you might not want to view it at work.

This is yet another example of your government thinking you are an idiot. This fence, which appears to have a somewhat ethereal quality about it--which is not a good thing in a fence BTW--is useless without measures to clamp down on the employers who attract these people in the first place. Why is this so hard for politicians to grasp?

Limerick, don't be so modest. You're quick-witted and a real crackup. (in your lighthearted posting) Didn't you used to link to a website with your handle? (like your own blog site, or something?)

Glad to have McCaul as my representative, and glad to have cast my vote for him in our early voting period. We should all encourage more congresscritters to be like him (and Tancredo) on this issue.

Left_Behind:

This we got off on the wrong foot. Probably because I don't write as clearly as I think! My daughter (CA) has been after me for months to support Tancredo. Your main point in the last 'target the employeers'is exactly what I want, along with a border shut down and scrubbing of each and every person who wants in. My thick tongue gets in the way of my mouth sometimes.
