[...] There’s been a pretty big deal made of a campaign commercial against black Tennessee Senate candidate Harold Ford, Jr. The ad features a white woman talking, rather bimbo-ishly, about how she met Ford “at the Playboy party.” It ends with her wagging her hand, thumb and pinky extended, next to her cheek and saying “Harold, call me.” The allegation stems from a gossip column in the DC paper Roll Call that said Ford was at a Super Bowl Playboy party. He denied it at first, but he’s finally come clean that he was there. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but (A) he lied and (B) Ford backers accused the opponent’s campaign of feeding off Southern aversions to interracial, shall we say, mingling. Wonkette (a “politics for people with dirty minds” blog linked, along with video of the commercial, from “pretty big deal…”) even claims it’s known Ford “does have a bit of a thing for white girls.” I don’t think the commercial necessarily had any racial intent. That’s not to say no racist who saw it was affected that way, but that the ad is consistent with an anti-”partying lifestyle” message regardless of the girl’s skin. Tennessee folks tend to be socially conservative, and they might not think Ford’s lifestyle represents their values — I may not care whether my representatives are around scantily clad women now and then, but if the target audience thinks differently, Republicans have every right to point this out. And just imagine the hell that would’ve broken loose if the GOP released an ad depicting a black woman as a Playboy floozie. Already mentioned several times, don’t care that he went, but that he lied about it. However, he probably didn’t want it to be known by the religious, pro-life folks, whom his dad just called “crackers”. Talk about idiosyncrasy following one step after the other…

My grandma said “the one who lies once is never trusted again, even if he speaks the truth” – or something to this effect.

He forgot to mention that he’s also a lawyer.

Frankly, I could care less if he went to the Playboy party, any more than I’d care if he went to Hooters for buffalo wings…What matters, as so many have already pointed out, is that he LIED about it

…nailed it in one, Rooster.

If he did ANOTHER ad FROM a Hooters addressing the Playboy mansion issue (if the issue ever sees the light of day anywhere other than in the blogosphere), he’d probably pick up numbers.

“Yeah, I was invited to the Playboy mansion, and I watched football. I like football and I like girls”, and they’d stop jabbering about that Obama cat to make themselves feel “progressive” about favoring a black candidate, and begin grooming him for 2008 as a “real guy”.

The Dems have REAL problems when they try to look like the majority of working Americans, when even their laborites are elitist socialists.

When I first saw the headline, I thought, “What’s the big deal?” I mean, I certainly don’t approve of Playboy parties, but, they exist and in the secular society we’ve got right now, they’re mostly acceptable.

I actually thought it was rather refreshing that a grown man would simply say, “I like girls and football.” and then move on.

Then I read the actual story. If it’s really no big deal, why was the first impulse to lie and say ‘consider the source’ as if the original author had lied?

Are there any honest politicians left? If so, they should get out before they get corrupted too!
