Video: Ford admits he was at Playboy party; “I like football and I like girls” (Flashback Update: Audio of Ford denying he was there)

Tennessee Senate hopeful Harold Ford Jr. (D) told reporters that he did attend a Playboy party, a report which he has denied in the past, and that he likes football and girls.

His campaign, when asked Monday, said the war in Iraq, not Playboy parties, is what reporters should be inquiring about in the U.S. Senate race.

If it’s not that big of a deal, then why wouldn’t the candidate just come right out and admit it earlier than he did? Funny thing Michael Powell, Ford Jr.’s campaign advisor told reporters to “consider the source”, which is a gossip column.

According to the story, Harold Ford Jr. told George Stephanopoulos that he did not attend the Playboy party.

UPDATE: Darnell at the Independent Conservative has audio of Ford denying he was at the Playboy party.

First Clinton’s denial now Ford. What exactly is a lie?

infidel on October 24, 2006 at 4:26 PM

That’s it, just keep changing the story until it works…

Scotsman on October 24, 2006 at 4:27 PM

Well, there goes the gay vote, right down the…..oh never mind.

bbz123 on October 24, 2006 at 4:29 PM

Football. Girls. …

On the next “Oprah”: Harold Ford Jr.’s secret confession!

Ali-Bubba on October 24, 2006 at 4:30 PM

Once someone starts to lie, its over. How can you ever trust them again? You can’t.

Although I wish more republicans were saying ” I like girls”

shooter on October 24, 2006 at 4:32 PM

I get it: If a sleaze scandal involves a Democrat (Ford), we should stick to issues, but if it involves a Republican (Foley with a 21-year-old guy), it should be news weeks on end.

Here we have a Democrat doing what they do best: lie and cheat.

januarius on October 24, 2006 at 4:34 PM

“Ford lied! Bunnies Cried”….”Ford lied! Bunnies Cried”…….

Limerick on October 24, 2006 at 4:36 PM

“I like football and I like girls”

So do millions of American men. But we don’t feel the need to lie about it for political gain.

infidel4life on October 24, 2006 at 4:36 PM

I wonder why exactly he felt the need to lie about that. Maybe isolated in the Libertarian labyrinths of CT I have become numb to the idea of politicians hobnobbing with people of the opposite sex for matters of frivolity. Darn you, Harold Ford Jr., for revealing my jadedness. Darn you!!!!!

Ennuipundit on October 24, 2006 at 4:38 PM

Hey maybe the Bunnies suggested he crash the Corker Presser?

Ennuipundit on October 24, 2006 at 4:39 PM

Hmmm. If he hadn’t lied about it to begin with I would have had a great deal of respect for what he said. One question: Is he married?

Zetterson on October 24, 2006 at 4:43 PM

It all depends on the meaning of the word “to”. Now leave Slick Willie, I mean Dirty Harry alone.

dalewalt on October 24, 2006 at 4:43 PM

‘I was at the party but I didn’t inhale’

Limerick on October 24, 2006 at 4:44 PM

He is unmarried…. and against same sex marriage/benefits. Not that that means anything on this side of the aisle.

“I like football and I like girls”

Can I get elected now?

E L Frederick on October 24, 2006 at 4:49 PM

We are getting some unique policy positions this year!

This politician likes girls!
This politician likes football!
This other one likes puppies!

Well. Hell. I’m voting for anyone who likes girls, football and puppies. Well, maybe not if they like the Eagles. Or Bassett Hound puppies.

Yeah. You can like girls, football (but not the eagles), and puppies (but not bassett hounds) and I’ll vote for you.

lorien1973 on October 24, 2006 at 4:50 PM

I’m still confused why Derek Jeter is running for Congress in Tennessee.

Editor on October 24, 2006 at 4:51 PM

He’s a Dem,he could say ” I like babes with bodacious tatas” and he would get a pass from his party and the MSM.

bbz123 on October 24, 2006 at 4:52 PM

First the flip, next the flop.

Proof positive that democrats are their own worst enemies.

DannoJyd on October 24, 2006 at 4:56 PM

Doesn’t he play shortstop for the Yankees?

flagwaver on October 24, 2006 at 4:59 PM

Gawd what a putz. I’d expect as much from the guy down at Super Lube.

venmax on October 24, 2006 at 5:05 PM

Didn’t Ford, in true Clintonesque fashion, say he never attended a party at the Playboy mansion, while not denying that he attended a Playboy party. I don’t think he lied so much as he answered a different question. A natural born politician. Maybe he should have said that it all depends on what your definition of “party” is.

Mallard T. Drake on October 24, 2006 at 5:05 PM

Is it just me or does that frame/screencap up therre look like a portly Jack Bauer is running in to taser Ford?

see-dubya on October 24, 2006 at 5:05 PM

At least he’s not gay!

bdfaith on October 24, 2006 at 5:08 PM

‘I did NOT have cocktails with that woman’
(Ford lied! Bunnies Cried!)
‘Look, I voted FOR the party before I voted against it’
(Ford lied! Bunnies Cried!)
‘Cookie? What Cookie? Oh THAT cookie.’
(Ford lied! Bunnies Cried!)

Limerick on October 24, 2006 at 5:13 PM

Sounds like he’s endorsing the Ace O’ Spades™ lifestyle.

Iblis on October 24, 2006 at 5:21 PM

Who doesn’t like football and who doesn’t like girls…?

The question is: does he like slightly plump intern girls or sexy Vent girls? :-)

Opinionnation on October 24, 2006 at 5:27 PM

Sounds like he’s endorsing the Ace O’ Spades™ lifestyle.

That’s going to cost Ford some support among “values voters.” Especially the part about roofies and Latino tranny hookers.

Ali-Bubba on October 24, 2006 at 5:28 PM

“Is it just me or does that frame/screencap up therre look like a portly Jack Bauer is running in to taser Ford?”

“Step away from the bunny or I will KILL YOU!!!!!”

Wonder how Jack is doing on that slow boat to China?

bbz123 on October 24, 2006 at 5:30 PM

Titans fan, probably. Bwaahahahahaaa!

Pablo on October 24, 2006 at 5:30 PM

“I like football and I like girls”

Yeah right! In the last two weeks of a Senatorial campaign in his homestate, Jr. feels the need to proclaim that he’s not queer and he is incidentally a quite macho football fan. He forgot to mention that he’s also a lawyer.

Sometimes you have to wonder who these liberal dipshits think they’re fooling!

This guy is

there it is on October 24, 2006 at 5:33 PM

OT BTW there is a clip of “24″ season 6 on their home page.

bbz123 on October 24, 2006 at 5:34 PM

the really scary part about Jack Bauer and the Chinese ambassador was when the show ended and the ambassador said,
‘We coming to Michigan, and Texas, and CALIFORNIA……..AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!”

Limerick on October 24, 2006 at 5:38 PM

He likes football and girls.

Wow.. I have something in common with a dem.

Mazztek on October 24, 2006 at 5:41 PM

Frankly, I could care less if he went to the Playboy party, any more than I’d care if he went to Hooters for buffalo wings. I mean, how many of us (non-committed) guys would turn down the opportunity if we had it? (I’m spoken for, but my g/f would be fine with it as long as she got to go too. She’s very reasonable about things like that. Also bi.)

What matters, as so many have already pointed out, is that he LIED about it–and like the Slickster, apparently thought he was so clever that he couldn’t get caught, even though it was a public event. And if he’ll lie about something trivial like that, what else will he lie about?

ReubenJCogburn on October 24, 2006 at 5:43 PM

Wonkette sent a trackback to this post!

Bahahaha!

You know the Liberals are desperate now!

IndependentConserv on October 24, 2006 at 6:15 PM

Junior told a LIE?

I’m shocked. Really. Shocked and horrified, I tell you.

And he looks so good on TV, too.

LissaKay on October 24, 2006 at 6:24 PM

I like football and I like girls
He should have said that in his church ad.

Ouabam on October 24, 2006 at 6:25 PM

He should have said that his parents forced him to go to the Playboy party — just like when he said that they forced him to go to church.

Hey.

Anybody able to find out the date of that party?

Was it on a Sunday?

.

The Machine on October 24, 2006 at 6:33 PM

LOL! What a dork.

SisterToldjah on October 24, 2006 at 6:35 PM

Hey — he seems like just the heterosexual type that women on HotAir have been known to go after! Manly I’m telling you. Go get ‘em ladies.

wytammic on October 24, 2006 at 6:50 PM

I like football and girls too. I don’t like dems, though. Hats off to Ford for being honest.

Shmo on October 24, 2006 at 6:50 PM

When I first saw the headline, I thought, “What’s the big deal?” I mean, I certainly don’t approve of Playboy parties, but, they exist and in the secular society we’ve got right now, they’re mostly acceptable.

I actually thought it was rather refreshing that a grown man would simply say, “I like girls and football.” and then move on.

Then I read the actual story. If it’s really no big deal, why was the first impulse to lie and say ‘consider the source’ as if the original author had lied?

Are there any honest politicians left? If so, they should get out before they get corrupted too!

JadeNYU on October 24, 2006 at 6:57 PM

He sounds like a red-blooded, American male to me. I didn’t know that there were any left in the Democratic Party.

bigbeas on October 24, 2006 at 7:01 PM

Frankly, I could care less if he went to the Playboy party, any more than I’d care if he went to Hooters for buffalo wings…What matters, as so many have already pointed out, is that he LIED about it

…nailed it in one, Rooster.

If he did ANOTHER ad FROM a Hooters addressing the Playboy mansion issue (if the issue ever sees the light of day anywhere other than in the blogosphere), he’d probably pick up numbers.

“Yeah, I was invited to the Playboy mansion, and I watched football. I like football and I like girls”, and they’d stop jabbering about that Obama cat to make themselves feel “progressive” about favoring a black candidate, and begin grooming him for 2008 as a “real guy”.

The Dems have REAL problems when they try to look like the majority of working Americans, when even their laborites are elitist socialists.

Puritan1648 on October 24, 2006 at 7:44 PM

Already mentioned several times, don’t care that he went, but that he lied about it. However, he probably didn’t want it to be known by the religious, pro-life folks, whom his dad just called “crackers”. Talk about idiosyncrasy following one step after the other…

My grandma said “the one who lies once is never trusted again, even if he speaks the truth” - or something to this effect.

He forgot to mention that he’s also a lawyer.

there it is on October 24, 2006 at 5:33 PM

Don’t bring that up - he flunked the bar.

Entelechy on October 24, 2006 at 8:34 PM

Who cares!!!!

budorob on October 24, 2006 at 8:42 PM

What matters, as so many have already pointed out, is that he LIED about it

This is really hilarious. I mean, come on Harold!

He lied because he was asked a question not on the script. He was stuck in that terrible place in Lib-time where there’s no time to poll to see how he should answer, so the safe bet is to deny! Libs will always lie, even when nobody gives a crap if the original point was true.

Der Schlickmeister taught them well.

I am BacaDog and I approved this message

BacaDog on October 24, 2006 at 9:07 PM

Welllllllll, wasn’t Bethany’s Press Play realy timely! Why didn’t he record his message at the Playboy Club, watching a football game with some babes on his lap INSTEAD of in a church! HA Another excellent example of the scumm hyposcrisy.

auspatriotman on October 24, 2006 at 9:19 PM

“His campaign, when asked Monday, said the war in Iraq, not Playboy parties, is what reporters should be inquiring about in the U.S. Senate race.”

Wellllllllllll then guess we may as well have him speak to the media about shutting down all the Foley stuff. Eh?

auspatriotman on October 24, 2006 at 9:22 PM

If he was a republican, it’d be an OUTRAGE and the MSM would be all over it, as it is, it will make just him more popular.

NRA4Freedom on October 24, 2006 at 11:35 PM

haha i can’t believe people just compared this to the foley scandal.

crr6 on October 24, 2006 at 11:49 PM

He’s trailing badly in internal polls even before the Playboy Party.

He’s toast.

EricPWJohnson on October 25, 2006 at 12:21 AM

So he disliked football and girls before he liked football and girls? I guess he needs to be fed his talking points before he knows what he meant to say.

What a democrat! :oP
