Poster Girl on the Wrong Side of the World

posted at 9:15 pm on October 24, 2006 by Bryan

She’s Australian, her name is Beccy Cole and she’s basically the bizarro Dixie Chick. Head over to Blackfive and watch her video. When it comes to emotional music and movies, I pretty much have a heart of stone. But this vid…almost. Almost.

You have no heart. Seriously, a nice song though. The Australian version of “Bumper of my SUV.”

Mancipium on October 24, 2006 at 9:25 PM

Awesome…its good to know that we in the US arent the only ones who get it. GO Aussies

DarianCounts on October 24, 2006 at 9:29 PM

Almost makes me wanna be an Aussie… Almost :)

Dawnsblood on October 24, 2006 at 9:32 PM

Ms. Cole just sold 100,000 albums in this household alone.
Things go better with COLE!

Limerick on October 24, 2006 at 9:32 PM

Dare I say that Oz is the new Britain?

Kid from Brooklyn on October 24, 2006 at 9:33 PM

It is nice to have friends.

Dawnsblood on October 24, 2006 at 9:36 PM

Thanks Bryan.

Dawnsblood on October 24, 2006 at 9:38 PM

Then go ahead and take me off your wall. Because I prefer to be a poster girl on the wrong side of the world.

TheBigOldDog on October 24, 2006 at 9:40 PM

Dare I say that Oz is the new Britain?

In some ways, Australia has long been a better ally than Britain. They even sent troops to Vietnam. And I say this as a long-term resident of England, and a dual US/UK citizen.

jic on October 24, 2006 at 9:41 PM

Thanks for sharing this excellent song.

liberty on October 24, 2006 at 9:42 PM

We are all in it together jic. Keep the faith! She sure has.

Limerick on October 24, 2006 at 9:45 PM

Brings tears to my eyes. Thanks Bryan. Cheers to the Diggers! Thank you Aussies.

infidel on October 24, 2006 at 9:48 PM

Great song.

Rock and roll has pretty much conceeded the whole issue expressed by Beccy Cole to country music.

Of course, there are a few exceptions.

Believe it or not, Joan Jett has been very supportive of U.S. servicemen in the GWOT. She did some music tours over there too.

She didn’t write any songs about it, but she showed up.

EFG on October 24, 2006 at 9:49 PM

Its good to see a star take a stand like that.

p0s3r on October 24, 2006 at 9:49 PM

Heck, Hip-Hop has a better musical track record on the GWOT than rock and roll.

Color me un-impressed by Green Day and “Wake me when September Ends.”

EFG on October 24, 2006 at 9:51 PM

Excellent. . .

Texyank on October 24, 2006 at 9:54 PM

It was a good strong reminder our men and women are still out there. Please don’t forget them during Thanksgiving/Xmas time. USO donations. Anything. I have a photo of my sons mess tent last Christmas. The entire inside of the tent is covered with Christmas cards from strangers. He said every man in the troop teared up when they walked in. Do something. Write. Donate. Let them know we are not all watching CNN here.

Limerick on October 24, 2006 at 9:59 PM

If you truly want to understand the underlying, fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives …

… compare Beccy Cole’s response to her critics – with the Dixie Chicks’ response to their critics.

It is as simple as that. Listen to both songs. Look for where the focus is – look for where the passion is aimed. Look for who’s important in the song.

There is a difference, and it’s there. As clear as can be.

Professor Blather on October 24, 2006 at 10:04 PM

BACKFIVE calls it “The Long War”
I think I like that. I think I like that lot.

Troy Rasmussen on October 24, 2006 at 10:04 PM

The song was good too.

Troy Rasmussen on October 24, 2006 at 10:05 PM

Yeah, except she’s not fat or cross-eyed…

Jaibones on October 24, 2006 at 10:25 PM

Wow. Almost made me shed a tear, and DEFINATELY makes me wish that we had more artists like her here in USAland, instead of the traitors and cowards we’re stuck with.

I also posted basicly this same message on EweTube, but it will probably never be approved to actually go up, knowing the current state of things there. Still, fav’d and 5star’d.

SaidinUnleashed on October 24, 2006 at 10:27 PM

WOW. Just simply WOW.
New cd for the Tbird!

labwrs on October 24, 2006 at 10:30 PM

I’d eat a bowl of Vegemite to hear her sing.

GoodBoy on October 24, 2006 at 10:53 PM

Bryan, you have a heart of stone…
Beccy Cole supports her ‘Diggers’ …
Whole-hearted support.

“Then go ahead and take me off your wall. Because I prefer to be a poster girl on the wrong side of the world.”

Marvin on October 24, 2006 at 10:53 PM

Very nicely made…and the song was good too. ;)

Thanks for posting Bryan. Very touching to watch. Refreshing.

It’s been on YouTube for over two months. How did we miss that? Great message.

lowandslow on October 24, 2006 at 11:32 PM

I love this song. Thanks for linking to it, Bryan. I’ve favorited it and I”m going to listen to it quite often. :)

DakRoland on October 24, 2006 at 11:54 PM

Full lyrics, by the way…

You won’t listen to my songs anymore
You ripped my poster off the wall
‘Cause I’m the singer that went to the war
You see no good in me at all

Well pardon me if I believe
I haven’t got it wrong
And before you turn your back on me
I’ll sing you one more song

‘Cause I shook hands with a digger
on the wrong side of the world
With a wife at home who holds her breath
and brand new baby girl
And the digger fights for freedom
in a job that must be done
And I let go of his hand
so proud to be Australian

And if unlike me you feel no pride at all
Then go ahead and take me off your wall
’cause I prefer to be a poster girl
on the wrong side of the world

And I’m just the girl who sings the crazy songs
not qualified to sit and judge
I’ve been right and I know I’ve been wrong
But I’m for peace and I’m for love

And I admire the burning fire
that causes you to fight
I only wish the wrong side of the world
had the same right.

’cause I listened to the wisdom
of the Aussie Brigadier
He spoke of widows and of orphans
and the need to dry their tears
And he leads the fight for freedom
in a job that must be done
And I’ve never be more proud
to say that I’m Australian

And if unlike me you feel no pride at all
Then go ahead and take me off your wall
’cause I prefer to be a poster girl
on the wrong side of the world

Maybe I’m naive to think we all could get along
But sir I read your words and all I ask
is hear my song…

I shook hands with a digger
on the wrong side of the world
With a wife at home who holds her breath
and brand new baby girl
And the digger fights for freedom
in a job that must be done
And I’ve never be more proud
to say that I’m Australian

And if unlike me you feel no pride at all
Then go ahead and take me off your wall
’cause I prefer to be a poster girl
on the wrong side of the world

I’m so proud to be a poster girl
on the wrong side of the world

DakRoland on October 25, 2006 at 12:12 AM

Let me give you two more differences between this fine lady and Natalie from The Dixie Chicks.

1) Beccy’s attitude is that if she loses listeners because of what she believes then so be it. It’s the price you sometimes pay for doing the right thing. Natalie’s attitude is that nobody has the right to refrain from listening to her music.

2) Beccy doesn’t yell when she sings. Those are actual musical notes coming from her vocal chords.

greenpiece on October 25, 2006 at 12:52 AM

God bless Australia, God bless the diggers, and God bless Beccy Cole.

p.v. cornelius on October 25, 2006 at 1:21 AM

Absolutely amazing. I’m proud to be Australian, too! (Oh, wait, I’m not Australian…but I would be if I were one!)

Chappy on October 25, 2006 at 1:23 AM

I love Australia!

(except in the Summer Olympics, darn Ian Thorpe :))

Beautiful.

A lovely song.

BTW, Take note of who ISN’T commenting in this thread…

georgej on October 25, 2006 at 2:10 AM

“Believe it or not, Joan Jett has been very supportive of U.S. servicemen in the GWOT.”

True dat! My wife saw her play at Marine Corps Base Hawaii while I was in Iraq. Joan is the best.

Kadnine on October 25, 2006 at 2:12 AM

It has to be said over and over. The difference between liberals and conservatives and how they express their ideals is stark. She doesn’t yell, doesn’t call anyone names, she doesn’t express disbelief that others don’t agree with because she is right and you are stupid and wrong. She simply says.

“If unlike me your feel no pride at all, then go ahead and take me off your wall”

Classy lady, Bravo…..

Take care all

Bogeyfre on October 25, 2006 at 2:43 AM

Great song and video. Lets hope and pray the Aussie Government treats the War on Terror vets better than they treated their Nam vets.

Helloyawl on October 25, 2006 at 3:50 AM

I understand that the Diggers claim to be jealous of the amount of home front support our guys get. If anyone knows of an Australian version of “Anysoldier.com” or some such, please post it! I’m going looking for myself….

TBinSTL on October 25, 2006 at 4:06 AM

Good lyrics.

Is this song and video available in windows movie player format?

F. Rottles on October 25, 2006 at 4:50 AM

Sweet. Good Stuff, not like the em”bare-ass”ing dixie chicks. I will buy a copy and play it for some friends and send it to my nephew in the Marines.

tormod on October 25, 2006 at 5:43 AM

Wow, thanks for that. I just forwarded it to my friends at the front(s).

Zorro on October 25, 2006 at 7:02 AM

Something other than an anti-war song; how refreshing!

ballz2wallz on October 25, 2006 at 7:31 AM

I’d eat a bowl of Vegemite to hear her sing.

A) Don’t eat a bowl of vegemite; it’s not gonna have a happy ending

B) Vegemite is banned in America. Well done, fellas.

Bit of a shame to have seen General Peter Cosgrove recently cave in to the anti-war movement, though. On the plus side, he ain’t no Murtha, either.

Reaps on October 25, 2006 at 7:50 AM

With a wife at home who holds her breath

What else can I say? Fantastic song.

If they so not want you Beccy, we’ll adopt you here.

What a country and long-time ally of the U.S. Home of John Howard, and now Beccy.

We’re all holding our breath Beccy and praying for our (and your) troops to come home safely.

I hope Hannity has seen this. She ought to be on his show.

BacaDog on October 25, 2006 at 8:33 AM

Nice to see an artist that supports the people who lay their lives on the line to protect their rights. Do you think this will ever catch on in the USA?

Hening on October 25, 2006 at 8:42 AM

HotAir family,

Go to Beccy’s website and sign her guestbook to let her know how much support she has.

Besides buying her CD, it’s the least we can do.

BacaDog on October 25, 2006 at 8:55 AM

Great song!
Another beautiful conservitive female to add to the list!!

GmanPsycho on October 25, 2006 at 9:08 AM

Outstanding! Why are we stuck with the Ditzy Chicks while Australia gets a courageous singer like this?

brazilnut on October 25, 2006 at 9:12 AM

No comment on her politics, but the song was rubbish.

The Aussies are some of our bravest and staunchest military allies. I’m glad to see them getting some of the credit they deserve.

lowfibass on October 25, 2006 at 10:07 AM

That’s interesting. Isn’t the video for that song the one where the guy joins the Marines and has a big scene with his girl and then he goes to Iraq?

Sounds like the theme of the song and the video don’t match.

I liked the beginning of the video. That arguement scene seemed true to life. But after they got to Iraq, and especially the ambush scene, it looked like they were portraying the Marines as nothig but passive type victems. Patrol nervously, get ambushed, hide passively behind HUMMVEE.

EFG on October 25, 2006 at 10:22 AM

No comment on her politics, but the song was rubbish.

GregH on October 25, 2006 at 9:33 AM

And why exactly do you consider it rubbish, GregH?

Is it because you don’t like country music, or because you despise folks who stand up for their troops?

Or could it be you are just a flaming troll with nothing useful to add to any discussion here?

Thanks for that special report GregH, now back to Olbergasm and the top 10 reasons we hate America………….

I am BacaDog and I approved this message…….

BacaDog on October 25, 2006 at 10:35 AM

Anyone who thought the song was rubbish.. How do you normally celebrate April 20th?

GoodBoy on October 25, 2006 at 10:40 AM

Greggy just wanted to troll away. I don’t like a lot of country music, but this song was very powerful. Good lyrics, she has a very nice voice… I just may have to add a country CD to my collection :-)

As others have said, this song shows the difference between conservatives and liberals. Even if you don’t agree with her political views, you have to admire the way she presents herself in this song.

How truly sad that someone could be unmoved by this song. How pitiable.

Beccy was talking right to you … if that song couldn’t get through your partisan blinders:

“And if you feel no pride at all ….”

But isn’t that liberals? Don’t they all – feel no pride at all?

Liberals believe in nothing.

“And if unlike me … you feel no pride at all …”

Says it all, really.

Professor Blather on October 25, 2006 at 7:58 PM

I must say, I am greatly impressed with Beccy!
God bless Beccy and the Diggers, for whom she sings.
A songstress not whining about the war -hurrah!
I have long believed that Australia is closer to America and her ideals than any other country.
May God bless all the troops over there, fighting for freedom!
