God I’m glad Lamont won the primary. Not only did this take Lieberman nominally out of the Democrat camp into the independent realm which may (wishful thinking, perhaps) make him a bit PO’d and give him a bit of freedom to vote a bit more conservatively than he has in the past… but, satisfyingly, this will cost Lamont $10-15 million and will be a failure for “screw them” ‘Kos.

Joe is going to take more than 20 points in the actual election I think. He’s a bit more liberal than I can stomache in some areas, but he’s smart enough to know that we’ve been at war since 9/11.

He supports our war efforts (including surveillance), unlike his challengers. Lamont screams about bringing the troops home now and even went so far as a disgusting political ad reading off names of CT troops killed in action.

Do I as a CT citizen (and a Vet) grieve for those troops? You bet. To the point of tears. But using their names to push a political agenda pisses me off. No matter the grief I feel, I always remember the fact (yes, fact) that those brave troops volunteered (just as I once did) to potentially die for their country. Therefore, their names have no place whatsoever in a political campaign. No matter their political views, they chose service to country; and their sacrifice demands more than being pawns for some political hack.

Tonight, in the debate, Schleisinger mentioned habeas corpus for WoT detainees. Sorry, but I cannot get behind that. The United States is in no way obligated to extend habeas corpus to anyone captured outside our borders. Nor are we as a nation obligated to extend treaty obligations to those who have not signed the treaty (Geneva Accords).

If Lamont is worried about Joe buying votes, he need not bother. I never saw a dime of the “nearly $400,000.” I’m still not going to vote a scumbag opportunist who tries to exploit the deceased (who volunteered for service to country) into office over someone who realizes we are in a global war.

DU was hypothesizing that the $$$ was used to pay out of state signature gatherers for the petition to put Lieberman on the ballot as an independent. Evidently, signature gatherers need to be state residents. The money was not properly accounted in order to hide the illegal signature gatherers. It would be quite funny to see Lieberman win, and then have Lamont sue, alleging that Lieberman was on the ballot illegally and should be disqualified. I would love to see the Dems reconcile that with the sacred “voter intent.”
