Obama interested in 2008 run

posted at 6:36 pm on October 22, 2006 by Ian

Because writing a book, appearing on the cover of a top news magazine, and several television appearances did not make his interest clear:

Sen. Barack Obama acknowledged Sunday he was considering a run for president in 2008, backing off previous statements that he would not do so.

The Illinois Democrat said he could no longer stand by the statements he made after his 2004 election and earlier this year that he would serve a full six-year term in Congress. He said he would not make a decision until after the Nov. 7 elections.

“That was how I was thinking at that time,” said Obama, when asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about his previous statements.

We’ve already had one ‘black’ President. Didn’t carefor his party either.

The MSM (NBC Tim Russert) stated there is a new Camelot coming. The problem Mr. Obama will have is that today the MSM has access to all the rooms in Camelot, unlike 1962. Good luck Mr. Obama, it is gonna be a rough ride.

Honest to God, I thought the headline to this entry said “Olberman interested in 2008 run.”

Gottafang on October 22, 2006 at 6:55 PM

Young, attractive, but ummmm what has he accomplished?

At worst, he’s going to force the Hilldabeast to spend some of that precious war-chest cake. I’m all for it.

Kid from Brooklyn on October 22, 2006 at 7:23 PM

I think it’s a done deal. The media’s gaga over him, and Democrats don’t care what he’s done. It’s always been about form over substance for them.

JohnJ on October 22, 2006 at 7:37 PM

What are his qualifications? Has he distinguished himself as great senator? His greatest accomplishement has been pissing off John McCain.

bopbottle on October 22, 2006 at 7:42 PM

The libs point to the fact that Obama doesn’t bring any baggage with him, like it’s a badge of honor that will catapult him into the presidency. He has no baggage because he has absolutely no practical experience or track record to run on.

Matthews and his panel of head-nodding liberals were drooling over Obama on his Sunday show today.

What a cast of characters for the libs; Hillary, Kerry and Obama. There tank is practically out of gas. *sputter*

fogw on October 22, 2006 at 8:07 PM

Still rooting for Condi to run; she understands the War on Terror better than anyone and could beat Obama and Hillary to death with one brain lobe tied behind her back.

Mike O on October 22, 2006 at 8:24 PM

I was also wondering what he’s done that qualifies him for anything for that matter? So, Oprah likes him so that’s enough? Is it Hildabeast/Obama 08?

Catie96706 on October 22, 2006 at 8:26 PM

I heard Matthews say Obama’s well liked by Democrats because he’s outside of the mold of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

What’s that Chris? You’re turning on the heroes of your Democrat Party?

And you’re right on the money Catie, the Hillary/Obama ticket was mentioned on several Sunday talk shows. Talk about a death sentence for the libs!

fogw on October 22, 2006 at 8:37 PM

If he decides to run then the truth of his positions will finally come out. He is no moderate. I dropped my subscription to the dead tree edition of the Chicago Tribune because of its annointment of Obama to the senate. He had a very liberal voting record as a state Senator that was ignored by the fawning Chicago area media.

rockdalian on October 22, 2006 at 8:49 PM

Think!

He’s actually running for Vice-President on Hitlery’s ticket. Think of the impact THAT would have on the moonbats. ooooooh a two-for! A woman AND a minority man!

Even though I’m not yet convinced that the qualities that make her a good National Security Advisor or Secretary of State would be sufficient to make her a good POTUS, her brain and her experience assessing and montoring threats against the US are, indeed, the two most important reasons I’d vote for Rice in a heartbeat.

Alden Pyle on October 22, 2006 at 9:04 PM

But another reason I’d gleefully vote for Rice is the prospect of seeing liberals’ heads explode should she win. It would be such a devastating repudiation of their ideas that they would be reduced to gibbering, drooling insanity if the first female and the first black POTUS turned out to be a Republican.

p.v. cornelius on October 22, 2006 at 9:29 PM

So this is what its come to: A neophyte senator that has avoided controversy by studiously refusing to weigh in on the important issues of the day, and has no accomplishments in business or governance to point to that would qualify his judgment as an executive, is now considered a likely “strong” candidate. And Mark Warner (former very popular governor of Virginia and tech millionaire) has decided against a run? On the merits it seems that Warner would have whooped an Obama run. I guess in the dem presidential world Ben Who-ffleck is moving up the ladder.

cms on October 22, 2006 at 9:30 PM

He’s a darker John Edwards. Nothing more. Todays MSM Breck girl. I love how the MSM never mention his white mother. It’s as if he were only born out of his fathers who knows what. If he were a republican, he’d be just another race traitor, uncle Tom, Oreo cookie, token scumbag, to the MSM.

roninacreage on October 22, 2006 at 9:36 PM

So Hillary/Obama v Guiliani/Rice? I like it!

JohnJ on October 22, 2006 at 9:48 PM

auspatriotman, roninacreage, why the gratuitous racial references?

Christoph on October 22, 2006 at 9:54 PM

yea (seconding christoph). completely beside the point and utterly in bad taste. when he finally gets around to formulating a political agenda to critisize, that’s what the rest of us will be conserning ourselves with. i hope that people who think no further that to consider obama’s blackness to be eyebrow-raising will be hiding behind us; winking, nudging and undermining with their ungermane and witless observations.

jummy on October 22, 2006 at 10:23 PM

aside from that, obama is a robot designed to run as a vp candidate in 08. he’s not even a real politician. i can’t think of one thing he’s done. its all been a walk in the party leadership’s tracks. more charisma than algore though! worked that bug out i guess.

jummy on October 22, 2006 at 10:26 PM

“will not be hiding behind…” yadda. you get the point.

jummy on October 22, 2006 at 10:27 PM

“Look how his suit hangs on him!”

“Quick, run for President before anyone figures out who you are!”

I actually think that a Billary – Osama ticket would be very, very formidable. And if he runs against her, she’ll leave his cajones on the cutting room floor.

Jaibones on October 22, 2006 at 10:46 PM

The MSM has the next two years already mapped out and their just shaping things out to make sure that happens…

1st The Dems take over Congress,
2nd The Dems impeach Bush,
3rd The US is forced to pull out of Iraq
and finally Hillary/Obama run and win White House in ’08.

So thats why the MSM isn’t even trying to be Non-biased any more.

mlong on October 22, 2006 at 11:20 PM

Why is it a neverending fairytale with Obama?
Didn’t he say Lincoln was a racist?

The guy gets elected to Senate, and suddenly he’s the greatest leader of our time? I just don’t get it.

Vincenzo on October 22, 2006 at 11:37 PM

It’s because all the rest are damaged goods.

Sure, a run to the Scheisshaus, especially when the libs lose again to:

So Hillary/Obama v Guiliani/Rice? I like it!

JohnJ on October 22, 2006 at 9:48 PM

or Clinton/Obama v. McCain/Rice…

Even though many of you don’t like McCain, imagine going to the voting booth in time of war “Mhh Clinton/Obama v. McCain/Rice? You’ve got to be kidding!”

Heh, and the media couldn’t figure out who their favorite darling would be McCain? Obama?

1st The Dems take over Congress,
2nd The Dems impeach Bush,

Only in the movies my friend and in the imagination of delusional people, only there.

Entelechy on October 23, 2006 at 12:30 AM

Let him run. He won’t win but he’ll certainly take attention away from Hillary, putting the Dems in another tailspin that ushers a Republican into the Whitehouse. The more the Dems are in disarray the better!

thedecider on October 23, 2006 at 12:44 AM

Takin’ bets here:

I’ll bet 7 to 1 that the first (actually) ‘black’ President will NOT be a democrat. Probably be a Republican, but might be a 3rd party

I’ll bet 5 to 1 that if the democrats ever do elect a minority race President it will be a hispanic… and by that time, hispanics WILL NO LONGER BE in the minority nationwide.

After all;

Howya’ gonna keep’em down on the farm (plantation)
After they’ve seen Paree (held real power)?

Your AWD (Average White Democrat)will pander to the various minorities, will slap them on the back and tell them they are their friend; Offer them 40 acres and a mule for their votes…. But very few of them will ever vote for one to be their leader.

Of course all bets are off if the Democrats actually take power in next month’s elections AND in 2008…

If that happens, by the time for the 2010 elections to rollaroundr we will be living under sharia law and the imams will be telling us how to vote, and/or half our cities will be in ruins and anarchy will reign.

Hyperbole? Maybe, but the best hyperboles are based upon potential reality.

LegendHasIt on October 23, 2006 at 1:47 AM

He’s smart, attractive, engaging… but entirely too “green” for the Presidency. The Democrats are in trouble if they thing that “Rookie of the Year” is their best shot for MVP.

Mark Jaquith on October 23, 2006 at 2:08 AM

Wow, my cynicism has come to life. He’s the perfect candidate for the times- easy to look at, articulate, and a minority. There’s an excellent chance he can win. But since he has no real experience or “gravitas” of his own, whose puppet will he become?

Scotsman on October 23, 2006 at 5:26 AM

When will he show us his family…..Alabama Obama.
Like to see his mom and dad.

LZVandy on October 23, 2006 at 6:42 AM

Is he a muslim?
His father is muslim….middle name ‘Hussein’
His mother divorced and married an Indonesian…muslim country.
All we need is a muslim pres……just great/

LZVandy on October 23, 2006 at 8:00 AM

The Dems overplay their hands. Promoting him now means he will be gone in 08. Just my opinion.

I don’t think Kerry or Gore, who both seem to believe that they are entitled to the Presidency, are going to let this guy get in their way of that goal. Just my opinion.

CrimsonFisted on October 23, 2006 at 9:27 AM

The Illinois Democrat said he could no longer stand by the statements he made after his 2004 election and earlier this year that he would serve a full six-year term in Congress. He said he would not make a decision until after the Nov. 7 elections.
“That was how I was thinking at that time,” said Obama, when asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about his previous statements.

If he’s going to change his mind on this, what other decisions will he flip-flop on?

Well, he is half white.

JackM on October 23, 2006 at 10:54 AM

Has any politician in US history advanced so far and so quickly with absolutely no credentials and no demonstrated ability at all? Okay, maybe JF’nK.

Osama Obama trades on the color of his skin rather than on the content of his character.

Muslims have been very clear that their goal is to have a muslim in the White House by 2020. Members of CAIR have stated they’re ahead of their original timeline.

“I, Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. do solemnly swear….”

How many Americans will vote for a muslim for President?

The dems have a habit of tossing black candidates aside and not supporting them. How many blacks have attained real positions of power and authority within their party?

His only seeming qualification is that he appeared on “Doprah”.

I don’t like nor trust this egotistical, militant racist.

“DNC’s rising star” – more like “flash in the pan”.

Oh, he’s running.

doingwhatican on October 23, 2006 at 11:02 AM

I like Obama. He has a freshness and a message of hope and possibilities. That said, he would have to work his way up to having a thin resume. It’s always interesting to watch how politicians get the Presidential bug, very few can really resist–Powell, Cumeo, that’s about it as far as I can remember.

Oh well. For for all ages….

honora on October 23, 2006 at 1:15 PM

wow…obama already being called a racist, and anti-muslim comments…you wonder why the Republican party isn’t viewed as a pinnacle of tolerance.

His record is indeed thin, however he is an excellent speaker, and has done a terrific job of connecting with his constituents thus far. It’ll be interesting to see how he does.

crr6 on October 23, 2006 at 2:50 PM

Obuma is a phony baloney Al Sharpton-in-training. When he accomplishes something more than making white liberals feel good about themselves, get back to us.
