[...] Not the one with the faux playmate. That’s been pulled now at Corker’s request, ostensibly due to “tackiness” but actually because it’s served its purpose and isn’t worth any more political heat. But with Corker ahead and Ford acting uncharacteristically moronic of late, the nutroots can’t afford to let the Republican racism meme get away that easily. [...]

I live in Memphis, TN and I can tell you this is standard Ford family MOD.

Jr is upset that all of Corker's ads of late use clips from his own ads saying "here's what Jr says" and follows with "here's how he voted in congress" with records and Bill numbers supplied.

Ford is a typical liberal - tell everyone how conservative you are and vote liberal when you get there. Like Father Like son.

Welcome to Memphis Politics.

When speaking of Harold Ford, Jr., you need to remember that his father is Harold Ford, Sr. If you know anything about Memphis politics, you know about him.

He was the long-time US Representative from Memphis. His last campaign was in 1994. The night after the election, he made the statement in an interview, "I have driven around East Memphis and I made a note of the houses of you white devils who had my opponents sign in your yards. You better not come and ask me for any help." Needless to say, he decided not to run for re-election, instead annointing his son (who had never held a real job of any kind) to be his replacement. Since Memphis was 60% black at the time, Ford, Jr. won in a landslide.

The elder Ford's brother is no choirboy either. He was a state representative and was the clerk of the circuit court in Shelby County. He found himself in hot water for fathering two children out of wedlock with two different women. People gave him a pass on that. What got him ihn trouble was the child support. In both cases, he convinced the judges to not impose mandatory child support. He swore he would do the right thing aand take care of it himself. He did. He gave both women high-paying jobs in the circuit court office for which they were totally and completely unqualified. The women showed up, did no work, and collected a fat paycheck. When he was caught doing this, he actually tried to act surprised that there might have been something wrong with it.

Harold Ford, Jr. is an apple that didn't fall far from the tree.

The Democrats and MSM would be raising hell that Bush had not done anything about Saddam Hussein if we had not ousted Hussein and would still be whining that Bush I had not finished the job. That probably would have led to his defeat in 2004.

Today’s Democrats will whine and whine about Iran and North Korea, but they have no solutions except talking to our enemies. Like a poster said on here about a week ago, Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations are in a quagmire in Iraq, not us. Where would we be killing terrorists if we were not in Iraq or Afghanistan?

So I really don’t understand why the war would be your number one issue.
januarius on October 21, 2006 at 1:17 PM

You seem strangely able to make assumptions about what the entire Democratic party would have done, what the electorate would then have done, but are somehow stymied on the issue of why I feel the war is the number one issue. Selective ESP, interesting.

Did you by any chance catch Chris Wallace yesterday? Had the top leaders of the Senate Armed Forces and Foreign Policy (may have the nomenclatures off a bit)--Luger, Biden, Warner, Levin. It was probably the most adult conservation I have heard from politicos in a long, long time. No Dems rehashing the march of folly this whole war has been, no Reps accusing Dems of being soft on terror. No talking points. It's clear these guys--three of whom are in the twilight of their careers--are deadly serious about the risks facing us, and also are ready to work together on not just Iraq, but other pressing problems.

I was actually optimistic, what an odd feeling that is!!

Its working out for me far btter than having a democratic retreat and surrender.

Explain something to me: why is any suggestion that the current strategy is gravely flawed immediately reduced to "retreat and surrender"? Other than it allows you the comfort of feeling you are supporting the better of only two possible solutions?

You cannot be that simplistic in your thinking. Can you?

"While he was trying to interrupt Corker, his campaign volunteers were uprooting Corker signs and replacing them with Ford signs."

Well, pulling up your opponents signs is illegal political activity where I live, I wonder if TN is the same.

Oh yeah ... this is amusing. When this happened, two reporters from the same station were on the scene ... one was following Ford for a "behind the scenes look" at a campaign. The other was covering the press conference. The news piece is up at "that video site that shall remain unnamed"

Oy ... welcome to my nightmare. I don't think I can recall an election that got quite this nasty. Or inane. Ya'll should see the local TV spots running. I refuse to watch TV until after Nov 7.

What about Iraq, Mr Corker? Well, what about it, Mr Ford? You were all about it and all for it yourself, only arguing about the number of troops needed there ... until this election got all hetted up. Yup, Mr Ford just didn't want to get Leiberman'd ... a Democrat that is *gasp* FOR the war in Iraq! That simply will not do ...

But it appears that Mr Ford and his followers are quite proud of this bit of party crashing ...

Please let it be 11/8 when I wake up in the morning ...

But it appears that Mr Ford and his followers are quite proud of this bit of party crashing …

Please let it be 11/8 when I wake up in the morning …

Dunno about that, honora. Last time there was a 6th year of a presidency (1998), there was no change in the Senate and the party in power picked up 5 seats in the House.

Just another useless factoid.

If a Republican did this to a Democrat, the MSM would be ripping him/her a new one. Anderson Cooper would be doing an entire show on guerilla tactics.

I've often heard growing up an old saying "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree". If thats the case I wonder why the MSM, <strike>in their efforts to reamin partial</strike> hasn't reported much on the dealings of the Fords from Memphis. Seems the family of funeral directors turned politicians has quite a history here in Tennessee. If you get time and are bored check out Harold Ford Sr, brother John N Ford, or sister Ophelia Ford.
here's the democrat plan for Iraq - "Cut & Run" / Surrender / raise the white flag, oh yeah - 1 more thing that democrats will do if they win in November - appease terrorists & give them constitutional rights when capturedby our troops. of course GregH & honora will disagree with this.
