Liberals, I would say, are those who hold some combination of the following beliefs:

• Safety is more important than liberty.
• Equality of outcome is more important than equality of opportunity or equality before the law.
• Group identity is more important than individual identity. Indeed, the group is more important than the individual.

Not so sure about the “safety is more important than liberty” point – It appears liberals have taken the liberty before life approach to things. To liberals, civil liberties are more important than actually protecting life. They are against the Patriot Act, Terrorist Surveillance, and believe that we are violating the terrorists liberties every chance we get. Their only argument for strong national security is strong surveillance of our ports (in other words, defensive measures as opposed to offensive). Lastly, let’s not forget the liberal position on abortion.

EL PASO, Texas — Two U.S. Border Patrol agents were watching the Mexican boundary last year when they stopped a van carrying 743 pounds of marijuana. The driver fled back across the Rio Grande — with a gunshot wound in his buttocks.

Federal prosecutors convinced a jury in March that the agents had shot a defenseless man and schemed to cover it up. Much of the evidence against them came from the drug runner, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, who reported the shooting to a friend at the Border Patrol in Arizona. Aldrete-Davila was given immunity from prosecution by the U.S. attorney’s office.

On Thursday, the agents — Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean — were sentenced to 11 years and 12 years, respectively, for offenses that included violating the smuggler’s civil rights. Outraged supporters and anguished family members packed the courtroom, and many wept as the sentences were announced.

My biggest peeve is the hypocrisy of the rich liberal elite.

We just don’t want to hear ignorant liberals stating their ignorant political messages when we pay money to hear them sing. The high school dropout Linda Ronstadt performed here at Wolf Trap in Northern Virginia, praised Michael Moore, and half the people walked out.

Then these boneheaded, ignorant liberals feel martyred for stating stupid political opinions in the freeest country in the world, while at the same time thinking every oppressive third-world country that has no rights for its citizens is morally superior to the U.S.

Topic for sci-fi geeks: Never wave your hand in a cop’s face and say “You don’t wanna give me a speeding ticket.” Jedi mind tricks don’t work in real life.

I got out of speeding ticket because I was in complete Klingon costume including the ridged forehead. When the CHP officer approached and looked at my license, all he did was laugh and let me go with a warning. He also said his daughter was a fan of TNG series. He was going to tell her he stopped ‘LT Worf’ for speeding; but, did not issue the ticket.

It’s the concept of the locus of control, and it seems to explain the essential difference between how liberals see the world and how conservatives or libertarians see it. It explains the liberal emphasis on oppression and victimhood and the liberal denigration of personal freedom and responsibility.

Conservatives and libertarians see the locus of control as internal. Liberals see the locus of control as external. And that, as I see it, makes all the difference.

Thank you p.v. cornelius for such a thorough and enlightening assessment, and for sharing the concept of ‘locus of control’, with which I fully agree.

My biggest peeve is the hypocrisy of the rich liberal elite. Occasionally I have shared how they really lived in communism, where I was born, and how they preach redistribution of others’ wealth and environmentalism here, but continue to live in lavish conditions themselves.
