Liberals, I would say, are those who hold some combination of the following beliefs:

• Safety is more important than liberty.
• Equality of outcome is more important than equality of opportunity or equality before the law.
• Group identity is more important than individual identity. Indeed, the group is more important than the individual.

Not so sure about the "safety is more important than liberty" point - It appears liberals have taken the liberty before life approach to things. To liberals, civil liberties are more important than actually protecting life. They are against the Patriot Act, Terrorist Surveillance, and believe that we are violating the terrorists liberties every chance we get. Their only argument for strong national security is strong surveillance of our ports (in other words, defensive measures as opposed to offensive). Lastly, let's not forget the liberal position on abortion.

Januarius, that's great half the people walked out. When we saw the Eagles, it was the second night of their four night tour. Someone yelled out "If you don't shut up and sing, we're walking out!". Everyone cheered and they had Henley's face on the jumbotron and you would have thought someone died the way he looked. He didn't say anything else and then went on to sing that "Hole in the World Tonight" song.
I agree when we pay our money to hear them sing, that's what they should do. They need to get it through their heads that we go to concerts to hear them sing and if we want to go to a political rally, we'll go.

Apocryphal tale: One of my father's colleagues from Turkey claimed his grandparents (wealthy I believe) used to have a pet bear (!) that doubled as "guard-bear". One night they came home to find a thief - standing upright - locked in a bear-hug. According to the thief, he had broken in, come into the living room, and before he knew it was in a full embrace. The bear didn't make a sound, just stood upright for some number of hours, keeping the guy completely still and unable to move a muscle...

AMERIKA HAS GONE INSANE

LA Times
October 20, 2006

EL PASO, Texas — Two U.S. Border Patrol agents were watching the Mexican boundary last year when they stopped a van carrying 743 pounds of marijuana. The driver fled back across the Rio Grande — with a gunshot wound in his buttocks.

Federal prosecutors convinced a jury in March that the agents had shot a defenseless man and schemed to cover it up. Much of the evidence against them came from the drug runner, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, who reported the shooting to a friend at the Border Patrol in Arizona. Aldrete-Davila was given immunity from prosecution by the U.S. attorney's office.

On Thursday, the agents — Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean — were sentenced to 11 years and 12 years, respectively, for offenses that included violating the smuggler's civil rights. Outraged supporters and anguished family members packed the courtroom, and many wept as the sentences were announced.

Catie- The Shut Up and Sing ad is still on this site. Liberals think that if they say something people don't like, then they are being "brave" and that their "freedom of expression" is being infringed upon. Also, the ad is taking Laura Ingraham's Shut Up and Sing message out of context, another way of being deceitful. These liberal singers have the right to speak out, but we have the right to not buy their products. It is also bad form to insult those who have paid money to hear you sing.

We just don't want to hear ignorant liberals stating their ignorant political messages when we pay money to hear them sing. The high school dropout Linda Ronstadt performed here at Wolf Trap in Northern Virginia, praised Michael Moore, and half the people walked out.

Then these boneheaded, ignorant liberals feel martyred for stating stupid political opinions in the freeest country in the world, while at the same time thinking every oppressive third-world country that has no rights for its citizens is morally superior to the U.S.

Saw that shut up and sing ad on this website as well as others. I don't know the Twits just don't get the fact that we all have free speech-they can yack all they want but the rest of us don't have to buy or listen to their music anymore. I used to like them a lot (their first two albums-albums-guess I am aging myself aren't I?) and even saw them in concert twice opening for Tim McGraw but what qualifies them as Geopolitical Wonders who can tell me how to vote. When I pay money to for a concert, I want to hear them sing. I don't care a wit about their political beliefs, I'm just there to be entertained. When the Eagles were here last November and early December for 4 nights, Don Henley yapt about the war and was boo'd the first 3 nights. By night 4 he had learned his lesson and just sang. If I'm paying $150 per ticket (times two) and babysitting (due to my daughter we have to use a special service because some people think she's a difficult case), I don't want to be preached to, just entertained. It's amazing that many of those in that comment section would have never cottened to listen to the Dixie Chicks until they spoke out against the president. I also read where they only wanted "cool people" for fans-& don't want to be in a cd changer with Toby Keith or Reba McEntire. As I've said before I couldn't sell their three cds along with all my Springsteen & BonJovi cds for fifty cents (or fitty cents for fans of South Park) so now they're all in the landfill which I know isn't too environmentally cool.

Topic for sci-fi geeks: Never wave your hand in a cop’s face and say “You don’t wanna give me a speeding ticket.” Jedi mind tricks don’t work in real life.

I got out of speeding ticket because I was in complete Klingon costume including the ridged forehead. When the CHP officer approached and looked at my license, all he did was laugh and let me go with a warning. He also said his daughter was a fan of TNG series. He was going to tell her he stopped 'LT Worf' for speeding; but, did not issue the ticket.

It’s the concept of the locus of control, and it seems to explain the essential difference between how liberals see the world and how conservatives or libertarians see it. It explains the liberal emphasis on oppression and victimhood and the liberal denigration of personal freedom and responsibility.

Conservatives and libertarians see the locus of control as internal. Liberals see the locus of control as external. And that, as I see it, makes all the difference.

Thank you p.v. cornelius for such a thorough and enlightening assessment, and for sharing the concept of 'locus of control', with which I fully agree.

My biggest peeve is the hypocrisy of the rich liberal elite. Occasionally I have shared how they really lived in communism, where I was born, and how they preach redistribution of others' wealth and environmentalism here, but continue to live in lavish conditions themselves.

What is a liberal? Discuss.

Rick on October 21, 2006 at 4:46 PM

A liberal abroad is the same thing as a liberal in America. Here is the Jimmy Carter of South Korea:

He did a lot of damage, which is why the North has nuclear weapons. I don't see the MSM reporting the following:
