A few topics to get you started:
Armed Services Committee Chairman Calls For Removal of CNN’s Embedded Reporters.
Moroccans cheer Twin Towers collapse.
Democrats angry over Bin Laden ad.
Clinton admits she is thinking about running in ‘08.
Go Redskins. Too bad the Cowgirls are going to lose to the Giants on Monday night. It’s hard to see the Giants win, but a Cowgirls loss is something that Redskins fans treasure the most.
Speaking of sports, isn’t there some type of baseball game on tonight? Not sure what it’s all about, but apparently people are talking about it …
Incase that wasn’t enough for you, here’s something to think about:
The Thighmaster was neither a thigh nor a master. Discuss.

My husband has me tape that BSG every Friday night and then transfer it on to dvds to send to him. He loves that show but I don’t know why. He watched it when he was a kid with Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch and that other fool from the A-Team. Of course he doesn’t understand why I think “The Office” is so funny either.
Annoyinglittletwerp-Cubs in ‘08? Perhaps, I never thought the White Sox would ever win it either.
I believe CNN should not only have their embeds removed but they should be removed as well. If the lefty libs can demand that Fox be taken off the air then we on the right normal people) can demand the same.

“The Thighmaster was neither a thigh nor a master”
“Hillary is the smartest woman in the world.”
In my opinion Hillary is neither smart OR a woman.
While I’m on Hillary (ugh, what a thought) she is really playing it coy with her statement about maybe running for president. All of us know that she and her wonderful husband will not even take a dump unless the polls show that it will be beneficial to them. She will never run unless the polls show that she can’t lose and that ain’t gonna’ happen.
Maybe Fox News can get a video of the CNN reporters being unembedded from the troops. I have my own idea about how to unembed them but you never know who may be monitoring this blog.
I’ve been a Redskins fan since the early fifties and it is the same old story. I’m afaid we have another one of those “rebuilding the team” seasons. Just how many GD years does it take to rebuild a team? Maybe Danny Boy can tell us.
Well, now that I have all that off my chest I think I’ll go pop another Silver Bullet.

I posted something similar on another thread, but all comments were deleted (old post I guess).
I was listening to Rush on Frinday. If any of you listened, you know he challenged his listeners that were ‘cut and run’ ( as in staying home and not voting to teach the repubs a lesson) to call and discuss thier view. In the end, there were 2 listeners that were actually doing the cut and run. His point was that the media is creatung this news story ( like we haven’t seen this before). It happened in the 04, 02, and 02 election. Remember in 04 when ‘Kerry has a definite lead’ by noon or so. They were trying to do jedi mind tricks on us. Trying to discourage the republican vote. It is happening once again.
But remember what went through most of our minds as they said we weren’t going to vote or that our vote didn’t count as the otherside was winning so much.
It gets us pissed. Makes us go ‘Whaaaa???’ In the end we win.
So for all of you who are going with the left’s idea that we aren’t going to go vote…LOOK IN THE MIRROR…QUIT LETTING THIER TRICKS OF PERSUASION GET TO US!!!
(sorry for the yell, but…)
Hope you all take this to heart

Since it’s an open thread:
AP, you said during the open signup window not to have any nuke meca talk. You also included that in your e-mail to me a few days before, when you manually set me up. At the time I wondered if that was some sort of figurative code. It hadn’t come up yet for me, but it might have; and it’s good to know what lines to not cross to avoid getting banned. But last week on Brit Hume’s roundtable, Krauthammer essentially said something similar. (Did anyone else catch it?) He said the way to deter NoKo was to say that any nuke, anywhere would be be assumed to have Pyongyang as its original source, and the return-to-sender message would be automatic. So is this really so unthinkable an option (hypothetically speaking–er, typing)?
P.S. I hope I didn’t just get myself banned. I do like the site.

These are people who have, in the absence of imperialism (the Caliphate, the Ottomans, the British or whatever), taken great delight advancing their own tribe while depopulating their neighbors. These are the descendents of the Amorites, Canaanites, Jebuzites, Philistines, Babylonians, and those other wacky folks who’ve been smiting eachother biblically since Moses was a tour-guide.
So much for Muslim unity.
They’re uniting in hate, no doubt, against a common infidel enemy. As such, it’s not exactly a marriage made in heaven.

I’ve never watched the new Battlestar Galactica, but do remember the original series. Between all the camp, it was a very political show which took a strong stand against appeasing tyranny. The so-called peacemakers were represented as fools, and the warriors were the heros. This was unusual for any network show, especially during the post-Vietnam/Carter era.
Eventually, the network bosses caught on and replaced Adama with Cousin Oliver from the Brady Bunch.

Cruel, and unusual punishment.
Punishment by its very definition is cruel, and I would hope it isn’t usual as that would mean that many people are acting in anti-social ways.
Locking people up behind bars by itself is not punishment. It is torture.
DannoJyd on October 22, 2006 at 8:44 AM
I’ll give it a shot.
As someone who has considered himself a libertarian for the vast majority of his adult life but has found himself identifying more and more with conservatives ever since 9/11, I think defining liberalism is indeed important. We should never just use the word “liberal” as a thoughtless, knee-jerk insult. And since the definition of the word in popular usage has changed so much over the past couple of centuries, it would be good to have a clear idea of what set of beliefs we’re criticizing when we use the word today.
Yes, it’s often dangerous to pigeonhole people. But we’re human; categorizing is what we do. So I’ve tried to identify what appear to be some general tendencies applicable to those we call, or who call themselves, “liberal.” Please bear with my presumption, y’all, and I’ll try not to ramble on too long.
Liberals, I would say, are those who hold some combination of the following beliefs:
• Safety is more important than liberty.
• Equality of outcome is more important than equality of opportunity or equality before the law.
• Group identity is more important than individual identity. Indeed, the group is more important than the individual.
Liberals, further, are those who tend much more often than others to appeal to a combination of expertosis and elitism that expresses itself in one of the following basic forms:
• We’re all a bunch of morons who must be enlightened by our betters.
• We’re all a bunch of bastards who must be kept in line by our betters.
• We’re all a bunch of babies who must be protected by our betters.
(In fact, if I may include a personal note, it was largely this very attitude—”We’re smarter than you. We’re better educated than you. We’re better read than you. We’re more sensitive, sophisticated, and cultured than you. We’re wiser and more worldly than you. Face it; we’re just better than you. So why don’t you mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, gun-toting, God-fearing troglodytes finally wise up and admit we’re worthy to rule you?”—that seemed to underlie everything Democrats were saying that pissed me off enough to vote Republican for POTUS for the first time in my life in 2004 and makes me consider voting straight-ticket Republican this year and in 2008.)
Liberals are also those who believe in what I call the Grand Unified Conspiracy Theory of Economics™. This theory, acceptance of which requires ignorance or disregard of basic economic principles, divides the world into two classes (The Rich [the oppressors] and Everyone Else [the oppressed]) and has two corollaries:
• The Rich are always and only out to f*** Everyone Else. We can’t permit free enterprise because that only enables bigger and better ways for The Rich to f*** Everyone Else.
• No one can freely choose to buy a product or service of which I disapprove. That anyone does is necessarily the result of coercion or manipulation by evil others.
As useful as these beliefs seem to be in helping identify liberals or describe liberalism, however, they are ultimately not quite satisfying if one is seeking maximum parsimony. What is the lowest common denominator, so to speak, that these attitudes share? Is there a single essential element that underlies them all?
This was the sticking point with me for a long time, but I think I may have figured it out. The solution comes from one of the most valuable lessons I ever learned, something I was taught in high school and which has stuck with me for nearly 30 years now. It’s the concept of the locus of control, and it seems to explain the essential difference between how liberals see the world and how conservatives or libertarians see it. It explains the liberal emphasis on oppression and victimhood and the liberal denigration of personal freedom and responsibility.
Conservatives and libertarians see the locus of control as internal. Liberals see the locus of control as external. And that, as I see it, makes all the difference.

Thank you p.v. cornelius for such a thorough and enlightening assessment, and for sharing the concept of ‘locus of control’, with which I fully agree.
My biggest peeve is the hypocrisy of the rich liberal elite. Occasionally I have shared how they really lived in communism, where I was born, and how they preach redistribution of others’ wealth and environmentalism here, but continue to live in lavish conditions themselves.

Saw that shut up and sing ad on this website as well as others. I don’t know the Twits just don’t get the fact that we all have free speech-they can yack all they want but the rest of us don’t have to buy or listen to their music anymore. I used to like them a lot (their first two albums-albums-guess I am aging myself aren’t I?) and even saw them in concert twice opening for Tim McGraw but what qualifies them as Geopolitical Wonders who can tell me how to vote. When I pay money to for a concert, I want to hear them sing. I don’t care a wit about their political beliefs, I’m just there to be entertained. When the Eagles were here last November and early December for 4 nights, Don Henley yapt about the war and was boo’d the first 3 nights. By night 4 he had learned his lesson and just sang. If I’m paying $150 per ticket (times two) and babysitting (due to my daughter we have to use a special service because some people think she’s a difficult case), I don’t want to be preached to, just entertained. It’s amazing that many of those in that comment section would have never cottened to listen to the Dixie Chicks until they spoke out against the president. I also read where they only wanted “cool people” for fans-& don’t want to be in a cd changer with Toby Keith or Reba McEntire. As I’ve said before I couldn’t sell their three cds along with all my Springsteen & BonJovi cds for fifty cents (or fitty cents for fans of South Park) so now they’re all in the landfill which I know isn’t too environmentally cool.

Does the MSM think we’re that stupid to just stay home? Let’s prove them wrong and keep them ignorant.
Entelechy on October 22, 2006 at 2:47 PM
Catie- The Shut Up and Sing ad is still on this site. Liberals think that if they say something people don’t like, then they are being “brave” and that their “freedom of expression” is being infringed upon. Also, the ad is taking Laura Ingraham’s Shut Up and Sing message out of context, another way of being deceitful. These liberal singers have the right to speak out, but we have the right to not buy their products. It is also bad form to insult those who have paid money to hear you sing.
We just don’t want to hear ignorant liberals stating their ignorant political messages when we pay money to hear them sing. The high school dropout Linda Ronstadt performed here at Wolf Trap in Northern Virginia, praised Michael Moore, and half the people walked out.
Then these boneheaded, ignorant liberals feel martyred for stating stupid political opinions in the freeest country in the world, while at the same time thinking every oppressive third-world country that has no rights for its citizens is morally superior to the U.S.

EL PASO, Texas — Two U.S. Border Patrol agents were watching the Mexican boundary last year when they stopped a van carrying 743 pounds of marijuana. The driver fled back across the Rio Grande — with a gunshot wound in his buttocks.
Federal prosecutors convinced a jury in March that the agents had shot a defenseless man and schemed to cover it up. Much of the evidence against them came from the drug runner, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, who reported the shooting to a friend at the Border Patrol in Arizona. Aldrete-Davila was given immunity from prosecution by the U.S. attorney’s office.
On Thursday, the agents — Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean — were sentenced to 11 years and 12 years, respectively, for offenses that included violating the smuggler’s civil rights. Outraged supporters and anguished family members packed the courtroom, and many wept as the sentences were announced.

Apocryphal tale: One of my father’s colleagues from Turkey claimed his grandparents (wealthy I believe) used to have a pet bear (!) that doubled as “guard-bear”. One night they came home to find a thief – standing upright – locked in a bear-hug. According to the thief, he had broken in, come into the living room, and before he knew it was in a full embrace. The bear didn’t make a sound, just stood upright for some number of hours, keeping the guy completely still and unable to move a muscle…

Januarius, that’s great half the people walked out. When we saw the Eagles, it was the second night of their four night tour. Someone yelled out “If you don’t shut up and sing, we’re walking out!”. Everyone cheered and they had Henley’s face on the jumbotron and you would have thought someone died the way he looked. He didn’t say anything else and then went on to sing that “Hole in the World Tonight” song.
I agree when we pay our money to hear them sing, that’s what they should do. They need to get it through their heads that we go to concerts to hear them sing and if we want to go to a political rally, we’ll go.

Today’s “liberal” is a socialist. Today’s conservative is a “classic liberal”.

Not so sure about the “safety is more important than liberty” point – It appears liberals have taken the liberty before life approach to things. To liberals, civil liberties are more important than actually protecting life. They are against the Patriot Act, Terrorist Surveillance, and believe that we are violating the terrorists liberties every chance we get. Their only argument for strong national security is strong surveillance of our ports (in other words, defensive measures as opposed to offensive). Lastly, let’s not forget the liberal position on abortion.
