Lieberman takes 17-point lead over Lamont

I think it’s safe to say the race is over:

Sen. Joe Lieberman has built a 17-point lead over Democratic challenger Ned Lamont, according to the first Quinnipiac University poll since the two faced off in a debate this week.

Lieberman, running as an independent after losing the Aug. 8 Democratic primary to Lamont, leads the Greenwich businessman 52 percent to 35 percent among Connecticut likely voters in the poll released Friday. Republican Alan Schlesinger trailed with 6 percent, and 7 percent were undecided.

I’ll ask again: where are the nutroots now?

Lamont propaganda artist and Hollyweirdo Jame Hamsher is getting desperate; she’s praising the Republican opponent now.

Okay, which one of you guys let the air out of that empty suit?

ReubenJCogburn on October 20, 2006 at 9:09 AM

I hope, when Joe wins, he immediately changes to the Republican Party. That would really stick it to Soros, Kos and the rest of the “nut-rots”

dallas94 on October 20, 2006 at 9:11 AM

All the nutroots are out promoting Death Of A President, aren’t they?

mufsidoon on October 20, 2006 at 9:11 AM

It’s not just Hamsher, the Hardly Current has been pimping A-Schless since the first debate. They practically beg Republicans to vote for the empty suit with an R after his name. All the time they spent destroying Schlesinger seems pretty silly now that they are drooling over him…

Ennuipundit on October 20, 2006 at 9:12 AM

Joe’s not switching. He’s as liberal as liberal can be. The only difference is he supports the war. That doesn’t make him conservative, it makes him intellectually honest. He supported Clinton’s use of force, therefore he support’s Bush’s in part because the stakes are higher. I said this early on, the Connecticut GOP is in such a state of disarray, that we - the GOP - gave the nutroots the opening to try to take down Joe. Captain Ed asked why Lieberman during the primary. The answer is simple, because the Republicans couldn’t nominate an electable candidate, so even if Markos messed with Lieberman, the Democrats would retain the seat. The problem was that Lieberman didn’t want to let go of the seat and knew he could win.

Looks as though the dims have managed to cut off their nose to spite their face. Again.

I would love it if Lamont got

SouthernGent on October 20, 2006 at 9:22 AM

If anyone needed any more proof that the media is shilling for the Dems and trying to suppress turnout, check out the link at the top of Drudge…

Surely people will turn out to vote for the GOP to keep Pelosi from becoming house speaker, right? Not so fast, says the Washington Times. Does anyone believe that for a minute?

DaveS on October 20, 2006 at 9:29 AM

This will surely upset Rosie.

Esthier on October 20, 2006 at 9:30 AM

Maybe this will let Joe act on his experience and not with his party’s whims.. The Dhims rejected him and he is in a great position to be his own man.

This also speaks volumes about being pro-Iraq spelling doom at the polls, not.

Hening on October 20, 2006 at 9:39 AM

Joe’s definitely a liberal, but at least he’s intellectually honest and doesn’t hate America–those two qualities make him among the last of a dying breed. Compare his consistent and solid support for deposing Saddam to Kerry’s and Hillary’s pretzeloid contortions, trying to be all things to everyone. So of course they hate him and want to destroy him, because he highlights just how feckless they are, even to their own loyal partisans. Plus he’s got the guts to stand up to the Brownshirts and refuse to step down from his own Senate seat. I wouldn’t agree with the guy politically, but at least he’s got some spine and integrity.

ReubenJCogburn on October 20, 2006 at 9:44 AM

The pasge you linked to displays the good ol’ 404 ERROR now.

The nutroots are scrubbing over there at Firedog.

Good Lt on October 20, 2006 at 10:09 AM

Nevermind. Its back up.

Good Lt on October 20, 2006 at 10:10 AM

ReubenJCogburn - I’m reminded of the Slade song, “Run Run Away”: “See chameleon
Lying there in the sun
All things to everyone
Run run away”

Which is just what the Dhimocrats do when confronted by real problems.

xardoz on October 20, 2006 at 10:11 AM

Hopefully this’ll help prevent the Dhimmis from taking the Senate … hmmmm … kinda like what Jeffords did to US!

Reminds ME of a song TOO!

“Round and round, what comes around goes around”

Tony737 on October 20, 2006 at 10:18 AM

Heh. Haven’t heard that song in years. Blast from the past. It certainly fits, though.

Like somebody said, it’s got to be biologically easier to be a liberal, because you no longer need your brain, heart, or spine, not to mention your intestines and testicles (if appropriate). The latter two organs being sources of fortitude.

ReubenJCogburn on October 20, 2006 at 10:25 AM

I wonder if Rosie wants her money back

infidel on October 20, 2006 at 10:26 AM

Oh my, Ratt has entered a political discussion. I’m ready for you now Jesus.

Much like some of their commenters, why am I rooting for a dem again. Oh, so the worst Dem doesn’t get in. Another state I’m happy I no longer live in.

sunny on October 20, 2006 at 10:31 AM

This is way too much fun.

Hopefully this puppethead will lay out another $10-20 mil of his own money in the closing weeks to try and win. Why would anyone vote for a nitwit who throws away money for a lost cause. Oops, sorry, momentarily forgot he is a Democrat. Question asked and answered.

Dumb and Dumber, in one neat little empty suit.

fogw on October 20, 2006 at 10:42 AM

This is good for the country.

greenpiece on October 20, 2006 at 11:02 AM

…still can’t shake the picture in my mind of Joe Lieberman dressed up as Barney Fife in the 2004 campaign….lol. Is it too late to “predict” Donk invocation of the Rovian plot syndrome, vis a vis “secretly” supporting an empty suit (Lamont) to run against Joe, thereby accomplishing a high profile WIN for independents and thus undermining all Donk candidates with dilutive Independent hopefuls?

And yes, reading it backwards does make just as much sense…

Left_Behind on October 20, 2006 at 11:05 AM

Dems have told Joe that his seniority and committee seats will be honored. Liberal? Conservative? Pro-war? Anti-war? No matter, the only thing that counts is winning.

honora on October 20, 2006 at 11:13 AM

I love that the Dems sacrificed a Senate seat just to prove a point. Their own stupidity will be their undoing; just my personal opinion and prediciton. Kick out Lieberman to win, and lose anyway… you just cannot make this crap up.

Cary on October 20, 2006 at 11:23 AM

It would certainly be nice if Joe occasionally voted party line for parties sake and now gave that up. I doubt it though, he seems an honest and strong individual.

aelhues on October 20, 2006 at 11:37 AM

Is this the moral victory we are forced to look for in November? Successfully enabling a guy who votes with democrats 90% of the time to get into office? Brilliant.

lorien1973 on October 20, 2006 at 11:42 AM

Lorien,

It’s kind of a one-issue election in Connecticut. Sometimes that’s how it goes…

lorien1973 on October 20, 2006 at 11:42 AM

Well, in a word, yes. What’s funny about this is that if you really think about it, the only one getting what they want is Joe.

honora on October 20, 2006 at 11:50 AM

In case anyone missed Rosie vs. Bill O’Reilly, here is the link from the vault.

The relevant parts are when O’Reilly tells her that Joe L. is going to beat Lamont, and Rosie defiantly, if cluelessly, states ‘No he won’t.’ Several times if I recall. Then Bill wants to make a bet with Rosie, but she declines stating that she gave all her money to Lamont. There was a fiscally wise decision.

No matter what happens in the general election, we’ll always have Connecticut…

I’d vote democrat if the democrats started ousting far left liberals and socialists. Instead they kick out the moderates and put the crazy liberals on a pedestal.

Allahpundit: The race is over

Hamsher: Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Atrios: [whispering] Germans?
Gleen Greenwad): Forget it, he’s rolling.
Hamsher: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough… [thinks hard] the tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go! [runs out, alone; then returns] What the fuck happened to the nutroots I used to know? Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, huh? “Ooh, we’re afraid to go with you Jane, we might get in trouble.” Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I’m not gonna take this. Lieberman, he’s a dead man! Bush, dead! Cheney, dead! LET’S GO NED!!!

Lieberman is eating this guy’s lunch and it makes me giddy. One year from now people are going to say “Ned who? Wasn’t he that guy that lived next door to Homer Simpson?”

x95b10 on October 20, 2006 at 12:37 PM

I love how the nutroot Neddy Lamont supporters flip flop on poll data. From one of the nuttier of the nutroots, Hint-lets just say the lake is more like a mud hole.

Polling is only a snapshot of the people that the poll taker chooses to put in the frame. What matters most is who is motivated to head to the voting booth. It’s true for CT, and for the rest of the nation. That’s why getting out our vote is critical — and why we should all be concentrating on those efforts, and less at trying to pick our candidates — and each other — apart down the stretch.

186k on October 20, 2006 at 1:03 PM

Bottom line, anything that’s bad for the nutroots is good for America.

The Democratic party were once rejoicing, and touting lamont as their hero. I wonder what they think of him now. Where are those liberal bloggers? They should get out there to campaign. They deserved to be called chicken.

Ouabam on October 20, 2006 at 2:02 PM

I would be happier if this turned around for the Republican candidate, but I am satisfied that the nutroots will have their noses rubbed into the Kos fact that America refutes them, and their stands.

DannoJyd on October 20, 2006 at 2:04 PM

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright.
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light.
And, somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout,
But there is no joy in Kosville, Mighty Neddy has struck out!

Brainster on October 20, 2006 at 5:10 PM

Wasn’t Lamont v Lieberman THE referendum on the war?

Oh wait, that was only if he lost.

cmay on October 20, 2006 at 5:55 PM

This race is basically a referendum on the war within the Democratic party. Say what you like about Joe Lieberman but he is willing to stand with his country in a time of war. That’s good enough in my book. It seems to be enough for Democratic voters in Connecticut.

BTW I’m not an American. I live in Ireland. I just follow American politics closely.

aengus on October 20, 2006 at 11:46 PM

aengus, glad you shared and that you’re here. This site is a big tent and it makes the fights debates more intense interesting :)

I’m a naturalized citizen of the U.S., born in Eastern Europe and love living the best from both worlds. American politics are simply addictive.

My cousin goes to Ireland twice a year with exchange groups of teenagers and absolutely adores your country and its people. With best regards,

Glad to have you here Aengus.
