Thanks freelancer for the reply… an option for our beloved National Anthem *gasp* my poor big ‘ol patriotic heart just skipped a beat (I did not know that) altho America the Beautiful is a beautiful song.

While I certainly don’t disagree with your sentiment, it has been considered for some time now, optional to use America the Beautiful in place of the Star Spangled Banner at sporting events. It’s not the best choice in my opinion, but it isn’t exactly news.

Forgive me baseball fans if my comments are in the wrong discussion but, after watching game 1 of the World Series I am deeply troubled..(not so much by the Tigers loss (which was heart breaking for me) but by Fox Sports pre game show.

Where was the singing of OUR National Anthem last night at the beginning of the World Series in game 1? (Isn’t it ALWAYS shown?)

Has OUR beloved Star Spangled Banner been replaced with ‘America the Beautiful’ as our national anthem & I did not know?

Did you notice that the large American flag that was displayed during the singing of ‘America the Beautiful’ was not shown through Fox Sports on TV?

I’m not happy folks and very disappointed…thanks for letting me vent…now come on Tigers let’s win this thing!

The Cards/Mets was the best postseason series in ’06.

If the Tigers stay healthy, they will win it. (People that cheer for the Yankees or Cardinals go to casinos and cheer for “the house”).

I didn’t think they were going to make it, but the Cards rose to the occasion when it counted. That’s why this is their 17th National League Penant! But I have to be honest, I couldn’t breath during that last inning. And when Beltran came up to bat with bases loaded, let’s just say I almost had to go change my shorts!!

As for you who think my Cards are going to be swept, you better think again. It’s gonna be tough, but the Cards are going to see it through. I love Detroit and Ivan Rodriguez is probably my second favorite player of all time after Lou Brock, but Detroit has too many young players. Yeah they have three young guys who can throw 100 mph rockets, but they can’t do that very often, espcially against Puljos. I believe the Cards can win it. And if they do lose, it will not be from a sweep. It will go all 7 games.

Somewhere in my stuff I still have my old “The Mets Are Pond Scum” t-shirt. hehe

My thoughts exactly… when the Twins got swept by the vile Oakland A’s. But it’s probably pennence for finally getting a new stadium and winning the AL Central this year.

As for the World Series, it real didn’t matter who won the NLCS because whoever won the ALCS was going to beat them. So the Tigers will get a well deserved World Series win in 5 games over the Cards.

I’m not much for baseball, but I’ve got a few buddies who are crazy for the Mets, so I watched a lot of the series. Gonna be a lot of people I know that are crushed today. As for the series, Tigers-Cards brings back memories of their last series matchup in ’68- back when World Series games were still played in daytime, and our teachers would wheel tv’s into the classroom for us to see them. Should be fun. I’ll go with Tigers in 7; Leyland is a genius.

At the beginning of the LCS, there was only one scenerio in which I would be actively rooting against a team (Grew up in MD, spent the past 14 years agonizing over the Rockies)

I would have rooted against the A’s if they were playing the Mets. I would have rooted for the Tigers if the Mets beat the Cards.

But now, I dont care who wins… and thus, I can watch, unencumbered by bias, the world series.

When Rolen hit that blast, all I’m thinkin’ is “Game 7 2004 NLCS, bay-bay!” A couple of seconds later I’m cringing. “Is this the end of the dream….?”

I had a premonition that Molina would hit that shot. Ozzie and Jack did it back-to-back Games 5 and 6 in ’85 NLCS. Rolen did it. Why not Molina, the worst hitting full-time position player in the NL in ’06? You gotta believe….

“Molina corks one into left center…it may go! Go crazy, folks! Go crazy! It’s a home run! And the Cardinals have won the game…by the score…of three to one…on a home run…by Molina! Go crazy!”

At least most of you here have some sort of past glory to remember. In 45 years, the Texas Ranger’s pinnacle of success has been to serve as batting practice in the first round on a couple occasions and to be paying $9 mil of A-Rod’s salary for the Yankees (talk about burning money!)

Death by August is an achievement down here; normally we’re dead long before then.
