Video: Will McCain commit suicide if Dems win Senate?

posted at 6:58 pm on October 18, 2006 by Ian

Sen. John McCain was on Hardball tonight and responded to reports that he would “just commit suicide” if Democrats take over the Senate:

- Arizona Sen. John McCain, a likely Republican presidential contender in 2008, joked on Wednesday he would “commit suicide” if Democrats win the Senate in November.

McCain, on a visit to Iowa to campaign for Republican congressional candidates, was asked his reaction to a potential Democratic takeover of the Senate in the November 7 elections.

“I think I’d just commit suicide,” McCain told reporters, to accompanying laughter from Republicans standing with him. “I don’t want to face that eventuality because I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Don’t tempt me to vote Democrat. Rush might get mad. Congrats to MM and Hot Air for the belated shout-out on Rush today.

Rush has been simply brillian the past 2 days.

I’m not sure why McCain would kill himself…he’s be surrounded by friends.

SouthernGent on October 18, 2006 at 7:15 PM

I have only listened to an hour or so of Rush in the past two days. I haven’t had time, but am thinking about listening to the shows if I get time tonight.

When did he mention HotAir today?

Hey, Matthews, you want intelligent responses, start making intelligent comments.

Think of McCain’s suicide as a consolation prize if the Dhimmicrats win.

Nevermind, I got it.

When did he mention HotAir today?

Probably late in the first hour. Yesterday, he was talking about his problems with the Instapundit GOP post-mortem. Apparently this caused an uproar in the conservative base. He then mentioned how valuable blogs were to the research for his show naming everyone from Captain Ed to the AmSpec Prowler– everyone that is except you guys. He came back from the break and apologized for leaving some out of the list like MM and her site HotAir. I believe he used the word “excellent.”

It sucks typing a long answer that is either not needed or duplicated just before you post. Alas, such is the world of blog comments.

For anyone who doesn’t know, Rush’s comments can be read, and heard here until just before 6:oopm tomorrow.

McCain almost gave me a reason to stay home. :oP

Valiant,

I appreciated your info, even though Ian didn’t need it.

Thanks! No it was needed because I didn’t understand that Instapundit remarks at first. Thanks again.

Ian on October 18, 2006 at 8:45 PM

Whoa! Despite Matthews record, I have to give him credit for recognizing the only reason the Dems might win has nothing to do with anyone preferring their stance on even a single issue.

She’s one of the leading forces in the anti-illegally immigration movement out there in terms of informing people about it with specific details of outrages as they happen across the country wherever, at whatever custom station, port of entry, city, whatever. She’s made it her passion. It’s the best.

Wow. Nothing ambiguous about that.

If he wants Irish Whiskey poured over his grave, it’ll have to go through me kidneys first.

If Johnny has his way and illegal immigrants are granted amnesty, even more social programs and in state tuition.

You’ll be ready, soon enough.

Speakup on October 18, 2006 at 10:30 PM

I guess becoming a DINO to keep his Maverick image would just kill him.

NellE on October 18, 2006 at 10:35 PM

Real mature, John, real “Presidential”. It reminds me of Alec Baldwin’s “moving to Canada” comment.

Instead of suicide, John, why don’t you do us both a favor and switch parties.

Lothar on October 18, 2006 at 10:43 PM

Suicide? Why he’d be in paradise. No one to oppse his amnesty plan. Hey does anyone notice Republicans trying to back away from that issue?

Remember kids Brownback is ousted in the primaries at all costs.

Theworldisnotenough on October 18, 2006 at 10:53 PM

Everyone else has already said it, but I want to also, so I’m going to.

Why would McCain want to kill himself if the Dems win? It would be what he’s been dreaming about for years.

Also, for asking that question with a straight face, I have to say that Chrissy Matthews is a humorless tool.

Wolfman on October 19, 2006 at 5:16 AM

Why would McCain want to kill himself if the Dems win? That win would hurt the chances of any Republican hoping for a chance at the White House in 08.

DannoJyd on October 19, 2006 at 6:47 AM

Rusho is stating that if the DEMS win then they will push for McCain in 2008 (Personally, for me, he is too ugly – so it’s a nonissue in 2008)… But like the loser Daschle, McCain should have long been eliminated…

Well as Ann Coulter states Republicans are too afraid to run a real Republican.

apathy…

Senator John McInsane, along with “Hanoi John Kerry” and “Cut and Run John Murtha” are Vietnam vets that are way, way past their time.
Thanks for serving, but now, please step down and away from government service. IMO, all three are doing more to hurt America, then help. Therefore, please turn the lights off, and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. br>
