Soros, Carter blame Bush for North Korea crisis

Soon to be Air America financier George Soros blames Bush for NoKo:
Billionaire investor George Soros today blamed U.S. President George W. Bush for escalating tensions with North Korea, which last week tested a nuclear bomb for the first time.
Bush shouldn’t have labeled North Korea part of an “axis of evil,” Soros told a group of investors and academics in Seoul. The president “aggravated the problem” by rejecting South Korea’s so-called Sunshine Policy of engaging with the North, Soros said.
Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday night that an agreement he brokered 12 years ago for North Korea to halt nuclear weapons development is “in the wastebasket.” Carter contends the Bush administration turned its back on the deal and labeled the isolated nation part of an “axis of evil.”
North Korea decided to develop nuclear missiles after Bush referred to them as being apart of the “axis of evil”. Yes, that is exactly what these liberal nuts are suggesting. What are they going to complain about next, the word islamofascists?

According to the left, yes. Do anything right!
In their hatred of Bush, they often contradict their own claims of malfeasance against him.

been there…done that…i think the next target of the crazy left are all the closeted gay Republicans…oh that already happened, too. Well they can always blame the closeted Republicans on Bush…

They’re both correct. Before the evil Halliburton conspired to steal the election in 2000, NorK had nothing but love for the rest of the world. When will these conservatives understand that all it takes is for a hug in order to make all the bad go away.
Makes me want to go get a Coke and start singing!

Ok do we actually have to pay attention to these arguments. They are the equivalent of “nut ah” “I’m tellin’”. My 9 year old daughter makes a better argument over getting desert before dinner on one ocdcasion I was actually impressed at her articulate argument and gave the desert on points and sheer guts, but this is nuts.
Are the morons forgetting there are things called TIME and SPACE! I thought that the Conservatives were the ones that did not believe in science? Why is it that the libs always seem to forget scientific foundations exist when making any argument? NK started the program before Bush started calling them Names!!!! Maybe Bush should have been more tactful in describing them and their current activities, but his seeming name calling could not have retroactively caused proliferation to begin!!!
Argh I’m yelling and it isn’t 11am yet!!!

Funny how these folks forget that Bill Clinton at the same time talked about how he had plans to bomb North Korea. I understand why Clinton said this, he thought everything was about him, but the truth, even as a former President, he was talking about the United States had plans to bomb North Korea. I recall at the time how reckless this rhetoric was. Which is more threatening to North Korea, axis of evil or US plans to bomb them?

What Carter is too stupid to realize is that the great deal he brokered was “in the wastebasket” before the ink on it was dry.

Has anyone heard if Bush has been blamed (yet) for the Hawaii earthquake?

Isn’t this a bit like Chamberlain blaming Churchill for the London Blitz?

Democrats call me evil all the time. That doesn’t make me want to build a nuclear bomb.

I’m sure that Mr. Soros is wrong, and that Mr. Bush has played this situation perfectly. Mr. Bush is a master of foreign policy, no?

Clinton December 2002: http://archives.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/east/12/15/nkorea.us/index.html
“We actually drew up plans to attack North Korea and to destroy their reactors and we told them we would attack unless they ended their nuclear program,” Clinton told a security forum in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam Sunday.
“We were in a very intense situation,” he said.
His statement came days after North Korea announced that it planned to restart its nuclear reactor after Clinton’s successor, President George W. Bush, announced he was halting supplies of fuel oil to the country.

I’ve got a great book title:

The Story of Liberal America
I’m not quite sure if it’s insane or genius to point at an orange and state without hesitation that it’s an apple.

Nice try Greg, but this isn’t a black and white situation, in spite of your half-hearted effort to present it as such. Nobody on this site has ever said that Pres. Bush is a master of foreign policy. Do you honestly think that Pyongyang would’ve given up their pursuit of nuclear weapons if the President hadn’t called them a part of the axis of evil? And do really believe that any amount of talking would’ve made them dump their nuclear weapons program? If so, could you please give us an example of what we could say to them?
dalewalt on October 18, 2006 at 11:59 AM
Why is it that when W goes it alone, he gets flack from the left. Then when he wants the six party talks to move ahead he gets more flack.
So which is it? More diplomacy or less?
Oh wait… I forgot… it’s whatever Bush does it wrong no matter the actual facts.

Soros’ comments make my blood boil but, more so, the South Korean government for inviting him. South Korea under its liberal President Roh has no intention of enforcing sanctions. (We knew that, so why on earth are we going the sanctions route?) The South Korean government has stated they are continuing the “sunshine policy” and are continuing the “Mount Kumgang” tours that give Kim Jong-il millions of dollars per year, thus propping up their regime.
One question not asked: Why would the South Korean government invite the noted anti-American Soros to speak at the World Knowledge Forum? Take a look at this article in the Korea Times about Soros. His comments about South Korea producing more than they consume is sure to be taken well in anti-American South Korea, where because of their protected market block just about every American and Japanese product from making any inroads into their country. The USinKorea blog I linked to that documents anti-American behavior and patterns in South Korea is dead-on accurate. The blog was done by a guy who was an expatriate there who was concerned about the effect on the constant anti-American propaganda on the American troops serving in Korea. What do our troops think about their host country inviting Soros, spewing out his trash talk about America? Again, why would the SK government invite Soros at this moment to speak? It is because they agree with his anti-American philosophy.
I lived in South Korea for a few years until 2002, and South Korea is NOT an ally; in fact they are trying to undermine our security and Japan’s. We need to pull our troops out and move them to Guam, deal with North Korea militarily through air strikes, and let South Korea defend themselves from shelling.

It’s simply mind blowing how Jimma can utter any criticism of any president. The man’s presidency was a complete a failure. The Islamo-facist revolution started on his watch! In short, he is a national embarrassment and should cork his word hole.
Soros is just a left-wing crack-pot with dangerous amounts of money but Jimma is a former president that never wastes an opportunity for weaken his country. Sad.

There’s something about the cocktail of hopeless naivete, bitterness, self-loathing, spite and just plain stupidity that is “Jimmy Carter” that is just … breathtaking.
Here’s a man who, if I’m not mistaken, graduated from Annapolis and went on to a stint in the Navy working with nuclear submarines. One would think that he’d be at least passingly familiar with two sources of nuclear fissile material, plutonium and uranium. Yet, in negotiating with North Korea about suspending their plutonium bomb development, but doesn’t bother to do anything about their ability to develop a uranium bomb.
And then he negotiates a five-year period during which the North Koreans would be free from any kind of verification that they were complying with the agreement.
But what should we expect from a man who relied on his daughter Amy for advice on nuclear strategy?
Here is a man who admonished Americans for their “inordinate fear of communism,” kissed Leonid Brezhnev on the cheek, and later said, “I was far too trusting of Mr. Brezhnev” when the latter repaid his naivete by invading Afghanistan. Yet more than a decade later, he’d obviously learned nothing about dealing with communist dictators: for he clearly trusted the North Koreans to be true to their word.
And here is a man who, when the North Koreans’ agreement-busting nuclear weapon program has progressed so far along that they can’t hide it any more in 2000, and they finally come out and openly admit to breaching said agreement, has the insolent gall to blame George Bush for what was so obviously predictable back in 1994.
“You called them ‘evil!’ That hurt their feelings! How could they not build a bomb after such a display of insensitivity?”
On a different note, stonemeister above asks whether anyone has blamed George Bush for the Hawaii earthquake. Don’t worry, it’ll come … I have a sister who blames him for the earthquake in the Indian Ocean a couple of years back, the one that triggered those lethal tsunami. The “logic” goes like this:
1. Oil companies were conducting seismic tests off Australia before the earthquake;
2. Australian prime minister John Howard is a “Bush crony”;
3. Those tests couldn’t have happened without Howard’s backing, and he in turn must’ve been put up to it by George Bush in order to curry favor with his “oil buddies”;
4. The seismic tests must’ve caused the earthquake; ergo…
5. George Bush was responsible for the earthquake.
Seriously.
It’s like that old parlor game, “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” only substitute George Bush and then in six steps or fewer link him up as the indirect if not proximate cause of anything that has gone wrong, is wrong or may go wrong in the world. We’ve just watched Jimmy Carter do it ….
Spurius Ligustinus on October 18, 2006 at 12:38 PM
George and Jimmy have clearly lost their minds. I really can’t understand what the hell their point is. Carter is just too old and has lost it. George is just screaming for attention. You would think a shmuck like George could find a better way to waste his money. What about the Katrina victims. That would sure be a good way to waste money. He could set up a speech school there and teach the victims how to speek English. That might work. God knows they need it.

In a nutshell, let’s look at Clinton’s “mastery of foreign policy.” North Korea fired a missile over Japan on August 31, 1998, four years after the Carter “peace” deal. Another “mastery” of negotiations between the Clinton administration and North Korea resulted in stalled nuclear inspections by the IAEA from 1994 onward. We threw away billions of dollars in oil and two nuclear power reactors, plus loads of technology. Just where do you think he got the spent rods from? Then in October 2002, confronted with intelligence, North Korea finally admitted they had been lying and had been developing their nuclear program.
We can all thank North Korea for lying and the Clinton Administration for their “mastery” of foreign policy.
moonsbreath on October 18, 2006 at 1:11 PM
Greg is right (and so are his heroes – Soros and Carter), Bush shouldn’t have said those famous words “Axis of Evil” – all that’s done is caused Iran and North Korea to go out and seek nuclear weapons – they were such peaceful and friendly nations before Bush said that – if only Gore were president, we’d all be happy, joyous and free (in a PC sort of way).
Rick on October 18, 2006 at 1:19 PM
From NewMax: The United States is concerned that Japan, South Korea or perhaps Taiwan may want to develop their own nuclear weapons programs to counter the threat from North Korea. Such moves would anger China, which already has nuclear weapons, and raise tensions in the region.
Anger China? China has been the primary force of instability in that region for over a half century. North Korea is a Proxy Partner in these steady efforts.

I agree. Also, if those countries decide to make a nuke they have the capacity to start at 0900hrs and have a coffee-can sized nuke by 1200hrs. By 1700hrs they would have them mass produced and aimed at China and NK. China is playing a very delicate game it may lose.
x95b10 on October 18, 2006 at 3:10 PM
It’s not like we haven’t given Japan nukes before… /snark
I think all they would have to do is ask and we could hook them up with a bunch, no… really…

I’m sure it is linked to Global Warming and his not adhering to the Kyoto Protocol, somewhere.
Afterall, did he not cause Hurricane Katrina?

GregH, Veni. Vidi. Vici., no? No, because you vanished before the “Vici”, as usual.
Richard Nixon s—–d up, ruining his reputation, and spent the rest of his breathing seconds trying to redeem what good was left of him, with a certain degree of success.
Jimmy Carter s—–d the country, a good deal of the world and himself and will spend the rest of his breathing days bashing his country, in the futile attempt of ever redeeming himself. Ain’t gonna happen!

Hey it’s really very simple, possibly painful but simple.
You can’t have free trade and nuclear proliferation!
We tell the world especially China that starting Jan. 1, 2007 all container ships have to first dock in Hawaii or Puerto Rico to be unloaded and searched at shippers expense before being allowed to dock on the mainland.
Better a recession or depression now than a nuclear blast with a hundred thousand dead at Long Beach and the resulting depression.
