Video: Charlie Rangel on “so-called terrorists”

It doesn’t get cooking until O’Reilly asks him how we’re supposed to get information from people like Khaled Sheikh Mohammed if coercion’s off the table.

He has no answer. They never do.

Ace thinks the RNC should run this clip as a campaign commercial. All they’d have to do is add a caption: “Future Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.”

SouthernGent on October 17, 2006 at 10:53 PM

Yeah, you’re right…just thinking about the alternative has me marking R all along the ballot. :)

Bob's Kid on October 17, 2006 at 10:55 PM

Grrrr…that makes me grit my teeth. He completely tapdances around that question. Not surprising, but…is this what we have to look forward to?

tdau1997 on October 17, 2006 at 11:06 PM

I wonder why the NY GOP doesn’t find a conservative black NCO or officer done with his duty tour to run against Rangel. Rangel did his best to obstruct Giuliani’s crime control measures that laid the basis for NYC’s (and Harlem’s) economic recovery. Rangel opposed the tax cuts which boosted the nation’s and NYC’s economy after September 11. Rangel now opposes the war in Iraq as well as Afghanistan. Rangel opposes measures needed to safeguard his own constituents from future terrorist attacks.

In short, Rangel has done nothing but wrangle money from lobbyists (a recent story) and waggle his tongue. He has done nothing for his constituents except bring in an ex-President to a heavily government subsidized office project and push through that President’s wife as his party’s Senate nominee over more experienced and deserving New Yorkers.

Rangel is another monologue-ist with selective memory who claims to “just love my country soooo much”. Horse Sh*t.

SouthernGent, these people are scary!

Bankrupt, enslaved, and then killed.

infidel4life on October 17, 2006 at 11:32 PM

I don’t know what you mean by coersion.

Haven’t you been paying attention? This guy is a United States Congressman? No wonder terrorists think they can attack us with impunity. With morons like these running the country, there’s no threat to the terrorists being stopped. How does he want us to interrogate? Hand the terrorist a pink bunny and say pweeease?

God help us.

infidel4life on October 17, 2006 at 11:32 PM

But first we must adopt Sharia law…..

Psycotte on October 17, 2006 at 11:42 PM

How dare Bill interrupt comrade Rangel’s sycophancy? Sir Charles seemed almost indignant when Bill attempted to confuse him with the facts. To borrow from Denis Miller; when he leaves the room all the grandchildren uncomfortably look at each other and utter “what the hell are we going to do about grandpa?”

x95b10 on October 18, 2006 at 12:14 AM

But first we must adopt Sharia law…..

Psycotte on October 17, 2006 at 11:42 PM

Actually I think the Bankrupt part will come first, at least in the USA.

infidel4life on October 18, 2006 at 12:24 AM

Rangel was in combat? I did not know that.

Here I thought I knew about the service (or non-service) records of all the prominant, anti-war Dems. Huh! Ya learn sumpin new every day, I guess. I wonder why the Dems aren’t pimping his war record like they do Murtha’s or Kerry’s. Charlie was awarded the bronze star. That ain’t chump change, after all.

That said (meaning I’ve a new respect for man personally) his arguments in this case are worth exactly squat…. Kind of like Murtha’s and Kerry’s, come to think of it.

Kadnine on October 18, 2006 at 12:39 AM

And the Dems call themselves the “reality-based community.” They have no idea how the real world works. They have these theories and pie-in-the-sky ideals (e.g. lets just talk to them and they will understand) but no answers to real life situations.

And Rangel is the idiot who, faced with the news of record taxes receipts, growing economy, and ahead of schedule deficit reduction, boasts that he will repeal all of the President’s tax cuts if he gains control of the House W&M commitee. When faced with real results, he retreats to the “playbook” and spouts the socialist ideals.

You can’t believe how much I want to see the Dems do down next month…

Mallard T. Drake on October 18, 2006 at 12:40 AM

“So we’re supposed to have our military over there waiting for them to surrender?”

No, Congressman, we’re supposed to have our military over there killing them! Because they want to kill us! Why is that hard to grasp? Terrorist dunked in water vs. dead Americans…what’s to ponder here? Oh right, it’s America that made them become a terrorist ’cause they’re just unemployed victims with daddy issues. Good lord. The Dems would absolutely give up if they ever get back in power. It’s completely insane that these people side with the terrorists on just about everything. They. Must. Not. Win.

CP on October 18, 2006 at 12:41 AM

If you want a bit of a pick-me-up, check out the red-letter header on Drudge right now. Rove speaks, and it sounds like he’s preparing to make the Dems’ lives miserable for the next 3 weeks.

DaveS on October 18, 2006 at 12:48 AM

I also can’t believe how much I want to see the Dems GO down next month…

Mallard T. Drake on October 18, 2006 at 12:48 AM

Maybe Rove will be to the Democrats as the Bears were to the Cardinals last Monday night… Go Karl Go….

Mallard T. Drake on October 18, 2006 at 12:51 AM

Charlie, Please rent a Mark Steyn video or read his book.

Useful idiots, The “All American Dem Party”

Texyank on October 18, 2006 at 12:55 AM

Psychopath. Fanatics gathering nukes to wipe out even Democrat infidels are “so-called terrorists”? They’re all psychopaths – the liberal enablers as much as the Islamists.

Halley on October 18, 2006 at 1:47 AM

Tard. Plain and simple.

Kevin M on October 18, 2006 at 2:47 AM

My favorite C. Rangel story (I actually saw him hold this speech and nearly fell out of the chair). He’s since denied it but it’s in the record, along with others:

My favorite victim story was the one that I actually heard on the Congressional floor about ten years ago. It seemed that so many slave ships (according to historian extraordinaire Russell Jeffries) crossed the Atlantic from Africa, and that so many blacks had died and been tossed overboard, that sharks followed the ships, and to this day, sharks are still circling around, waiting for more bodies to be tossed overboard after three hundred years of slave trade.

If his ideas wouldn’t be so nutty – he does have a pleasant personality and is a good guest on TV shows.

Looks like Allah is trying to get us to vote.

Savage on October 18, 2006 at 6:58 AM

I’m not happy with the Republicans. I feel that are failing to take proper measures to ensure national security here at home.

But while I may not be happy with the Republicans, the Dems are absolutely NOT a choice.

The Republicans at least get it right some of the time, the Dems… never.

E L Frederick on October 18, 2006 at 7:19 AM

I saw the Rangle segment last night on O’Reilly. It really is amazing to me that Charlie has no answer to how we can get information from our enemies. Scary. He’s either delusional as to how the real world works, or thinks those who wish to harm us can be swayed by being nice.

Either scenario is bad for us.

Looks like Allah is trying to get us to vote.

Damn right. If we do not turn out at the polls in force we have noone to blame but ourselves if the Dims take the majority.

BacaDog on October 18, 2006 at 8:36 AM

Charlie’s a subversive demagogue.

What makes him even worse is that he represents a borough of New York City.

In the wake of the Lynne Stewart sentencing, New Yorkers need to understand that their is a natural consequence if they continue to elect liberal whackos like Rangel, Schumer and the PIAPS.

If and when NYC is hit again by terrorists, most of America will be more anxious about the impact on Wall Street rather than concerned with the plight of New Yorkers.

there it is on October 18, 2006 at 9:06 AM

It’s true, they are going to get us killed if they gain power in Congress. Rangel is one of the worst offenders. As if anyone had to wonder; I am voting GOP straight down the ticket.

Pelosi as Speaker and Rangel as head of the very powerful Ways and Means. If you ever needed to know just how low the GOP would have to go to equal the Dhimmicrats; look no further.

Remember folks, being incompetent and misguided is one thing. Activiley undermining our military and the very fabric of America is quite another.

Cary on October 18, 2006 at 10:07 AM

Pro Islamic, Socialist, America hating twit.
He wore out his military service brownie points decades ago.
He’s part of the Axis of Dweebs.

Hening on October 18, 2006 at 10:08 AM

Nowhere does Rangel say that he doesn’t have an answer. He just sidesteps the question and participates in politico double talk – typical of any politician.

GregH on October 18, 2006 at 10:09 AM

I heard the O’Reilly interview last night. Rangel gave the same tired, “Bush is creating more terrorists” line. He also used the term “alleged terrorists” to describe the Guantanamo detainees. He said he could not be proud of a country that uses the interrogation methods Bush advocates. He was in complete denial when O’Reilly stated as a fact that the interrogation methods used had resulted in a saving of hundred or thousands of lives and asked Rangel would advocate in its place.

The Republican party needs to better advertise the fact that America-hating leftwing nutcases like Rangel will occupy key positions of power if the Dems capture control of the House of Representatives.

GregH on October 18, 2006 at 10:09 AM

No, GregH, it’s not typical of any politician, only the Liberal ones like Rengle. President Bush clearly has stated many times that the United States would employ whatever means necessary to get the information needed for our intellegence branch to be effective. Although he flatly refused to discuss the methods to be used, he has said we’d use whatever means are available under U.S. law.

Doesn’t sound like a sidestep to me.

BacaDog on October 18, 2006 at 10:34 AM

I second that. This is exactly the type of thing people should see when considering whether dems are fit to be in charge of national defense.

thirteen28 on October 18, 2006 at 11:11 AM

he has said we’d use whatever means are available under U.S. law.

And if not allowable under US law, then let’s change the law so that he can still do what he wants…

GregH on October 18, 2006 at 11:25 AM

Handing this sort of power to the executive is extraordinary. And not in a good way. It never ceases to amaze me that people like O’R remain so willing to take Bush at face value, as if he hasn’t made mistake after mistake. (Hey how about those Iraqis….) And for those of you who will immediately race to see who can intone “strawman” first, the Rangel interview was a response to the Bush/O’R interview.

Thank God people seem to be coming to their senses.

honora on October 18, 2006 at 11:29 AM

Left wing debate rulebook:
1. If the neocon says “coerced interrogation”, pretend he said “torture”
2. If the neocon says “terrorist” or “combatant”, pretend he said “US citizen”
3. If the neocon says “illegal alien”, pretend he said “immigrant”
4. If the neocon says “abortion”, pretend he said “right of the woman to control her own body”

The leftist “art” of dialogue is one of misrepresentation and misdirection. Hardly a valid technique, but somehow effective.

I keep voting to get rid of my representative, alcee hastings, but he won’t go away. People in the other part of this district keep voting him in.

tormod on October 18, 2006 at 12:30 PM

Charlie is perfect for his district. The voters there are deep thinkers just like him. Intellectual chumps, but deep thinkers all the same. Just think about the depth of rap lyrics. It takes a real thinker to fill that bill. If Charlie was in charge, he could turn the U.S. into Haiti in no time. That would be considered justice by his standards.

Shmo on October 18, 2006 at 12:44 PM

Senator Leahy (D-VT) referred to “so-called ‘terrorism’ cases” and “so-called ‘unlawful combatants’” in 2003.

Leahy also called narco-terrorism “so-called ‘terrorism convictions’“.

So, there’s definitely a pattern.

How about a GOP commercial blending these “so-called” statements for public viewing?

Terp Mole on October 18, 2006 at 12:53 PM

Here’s a smilin’ Jimmah flashback from Sweetness & Light;

Carter Calls Hamas “So-Called Terrorists

Carter told CNN in an interview that although Hamas were “so-called terrorists,” so far “there have been no complaints of corruption against [their] elected officials.”

Terp Mole on October 18, 2006 at 1:06 PM

Apparently, Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) considers “so-called” eco-terrorists “legitimate“;

“…we must take care not to lump legitimate groups with terrorists. To do so would only minimize the very real threats against our society. … To date, not a single incident of so-called environmental terrorism has killed anyone.”

~ Senator Frank Lautenberg, (Dem. N.J.)

Terp Mole on October 18, 2006 at 1:15 PM

btw: It should go without saying that Lautenberg’s “legitimate” “so-called environmental terrorism” has killed before.

Terp Mole on October 18, 2006 at 1:20 PM

Conservatives should start referring to them as “so-called” Congressmen Rangel, Lautenberg, Leahy… and of course, “so-called” President Carter.

Terp Mole on October 18, 2006 at 1:33 PM

honora on October 18, 2006 at 11:29 AM

honora, while I don’t have much faith that many people use their better senses, I believe they react to self-preserve; they’re not suicidal.

Entelechy on October 18, 2006 at 2:01 PM

Why do these guys bother to go on these shows? They dont answer ANY questions. Its all talking points. Makes me INSANE! How did this country get so bass ackwards? How can he believe that crap he spews forth? Coerced Interrogation doesnt get information?!?! Just freakin incredible. Yes, the Sheik, outta the kindness of his heart, realized after being captured, that we filthy infidels were really looking out for the best interest of his people, and decided to give up the information. All we had to do was ask nicely.
