Schlesinger steals the show at Lieberman-Lamont debate?

That’s the word on the street, although the reality-based community has been known to confuse electoral reality with wishful thinking. Tinti’s not worried and says Connecticut Republicans realize that a vote for Schlesinger is a vote for Lamont. Just like, er, Democrats “knew” that a vote for Nader was a vote for Bush in 2000.
Of course, if we acted like Democrats we wouldn’t have two chambers to lose.
HuffPo’s already working on the empty suit’s concession speech. Rational response to the polls? Reflex reaction of a party prone to defeatism and used to losing? Or just getting a jump on the treacly, unbearably overwrought valedictions we’ll be treated to on election night if this loser does, in fact, go belly up? Imagine every Olbermann fan in America — all eleven of them — trying to one-up each other in a contest of who can write the Lamont eulogy with the purplest prose.
I think I’d rather see him win.
Elsewhere: according to ABC News political director/Democratic Party shill Mark Halperin, “GOP strategists” expect to lose the House. Election Projection thinks that’s a reasonable expectation. As I write this, TradeSports has GOP retention of the lower chamber at … 31.3 and plummeting.
GOP retention of the Senate stands at 61.2, although it’s down eight points today. Rasmussen has already taken the last tally out of the “Lean GOP” column by declaring Virginia now too close to call, thereby leaving things at 48-48 with four toss-ups. Dan Riehl follows the money and feels optimistic, noting the huge advantage many Republican candidates have over their opponents — but one of the ones he lists, Mike DeWine, has already allegedly been abandoned by the leadership as a sure loser.
Finally, two meta-polls for you. First, via Pew, the Bush effect? Or the Kos effect?

And also from Pew, this fascinating graph suggesting that your lifelong party affiliation is determined by what the political landscape looks like when you turn 20. Click for full size.
The good news: those Truman Democrats won’t be around to trouble us much longer! The bad news: Bush has created more Democrats than FDR did.
Addendum (Ian): Isn’t it kind of funny that most of the popular liberal bloggers write Schlesinger won the debate. It’s like someone is telling them what to write or something.
Daily Kos: Republican Alan Schlesinger, who was surprisingly impressive in the debate, made a clear distinction between himself and his two opponents on the immigration issue:
Atrios: Schlesinger for Senate
Crooks and Liars: Schlesinger came out fighting
Jane Hamsher: Finally. A Republican with the stones to tell Joe Lieberman to get off his damn lawn. Lieberman thought he was going to look “bipartisan” standing in between Ned Lamont and Alan Schlessinger during the debate today but he just looked like a man without a country, crying because everyone was trying to steal his candy. While Joe was praising every Republican in sight (Jodi Rell, John McCain, Susan Collins — funny, no Democrats)
myDD: Lieberman Crunched, Schlesinger Soars

Allah …
Aren’t you the one just last week suggesting you’re going to vote straight Dem?

Why is CREW ignoring THIS story?
WASHINGTON – Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid has been using campaign donations instead of his personal money to pay Christmas bonuses for the support staff at the Ritz-Carlton where he lives in an upscale condominium. Federal election law bars candidates from converting political donations for personal use.

If you look at the graph, the trend towards being a Democrat coincides with the exact time that multiculturalism began being the rage in the public schools in the early 90’s. Today’s heavily Democratic 20-year-olds have literally had, from kindergarten on, year after year of multicultural brainwashing, many of them not getting any moral basics of absolute right and wrong at home. The 90’s were also the time of extreme left-wing history texts being adopted in state after state for the public schools, which teach the United States being the source of all ills and a moral equivalence between all nations. Diane Ravitch, an educational historian at the Brookings Institute, discusses the history of public education in her Left Back and The Language Police.
Also, we have had almost six years of President Bush’s “new tone” appeasement of Democrats, while the MSM has been more biased than ever. It’s too bad we couldn’t have someone like Gingrich or Reagan who could communicate conservative ideals and who would be willing to proactively counter the Left.

I disagree, januarius. It looks to me like the trends follow the party with the bully pulpit (the Presidency), for the most part. Even during Bush’s presidency, the Republican number trends up. Even during Carter’s presidency, the Dem number trends up. And no, I’m not equating the two.
There is clearly some other factor related to “periods of peace” that is in play and independent of the President’s party–particularly on the Dem side–but I can’t put my finger on it.
Oh, and on the debate thing… I just watched the excerpts, and Lieberman pwned at the end.

The Kos post pretty much sums up Kos. He uses the phrase “anti-immigration” twice, showing he has no understanding of opposing views. He also calls Liebermann’s position “sane and correct”, which I suppose means that the views of his preferred candidate are insane and incorrect.
Also, just how many “anti-immigration” Republicans are in Connecticut, anyway? I suppose there are a few, but he talks like it’s Texas.
The Unabrewer on October 16, 2006 at 10:46 PM
Anti-immigration might otherwise be characterized as ‘anti-lawbreaking’. In the real world, that is. Kos is a dolt.
Martin on October 16, 2006 at 11:00 PM
I’ve asked this before, and I don’t mean it rhetorically… What evidence is there that Kos is all that intelligent? Can anyone point to a lucid, insightful post of his that I might have missed?
Noone ever responds to this question, but I really want an answer. I know he gets lots of traffic, yada yada, but that doesn’t mean anything. Everytime I read his blog its a lot of profanity laced crap.

I refer you guys to my post on Sept. 1, 2006.
RobertCSampson on October 17, 2006 at 12:17 AM
Must… vote… Schlesinger…
If Lieberman wins and, so digusted by how is own party treated, goes Republican, then Kos’s biggest (and only victory) will be turning a solidly Democratic Senate seat into a Republican one.
And that’s funny; I don’t care who you are.

The progs are so predictable. At least when we (Republicans) tried to get Ralph Nadar on the ballot back in 2004, we didn’t praise him as some kind of political hero. He was a useful idiot. Nothing more and nothing less.

“HuffPo’s already working on the empty suit’s concession speech.”
Well, I read it and it’s rather lame and doesn’t really express the disappointment that Lamont would actually feel, IMHO.
So, I went to the DUmmie site. I tried to get in their heads and feel as they would feel if their hero, Ned Lamont, lost. After all, this election is a major thing for them. This is their collective and PERSONAL validation. This was supposed to be proof that being whiny anti-war loudmouths and Bush-hating blowhards can actually get a candidate elected.
So after about 30 seconds (out of the mandatory 2 minutes of Bush-hate that they all go through each day), I think I captured their emotions and turned it into a concession speech for Lamont THAT THEY would write, if they were allowed to. It probably would go something like this:
[Disclaimer -- rough language follows which may not be appropriate for young children, and old nuns.]
[Second Disclaimer -- this is a simulation, it is not real. Okay, maybe it might be real on 11/7, but it's only a possible happening, in the moonbat alternate universe.]
[Third Disclaimer -- no animals were hurt during the making of this faux speech. Read this at your own risk. Management is not responsible for articles left in your car.]
Whatcha think? Does it capture the mood of a drunk DUmmie in depression?
