So what's the big deal? Why is everyone so concerned about this? It's not like there's any concern that Venezuela is going to get on the Security Council and ruin the UN's sterling reputation as a preventer of war, barbarism and totalitarianism, after all.

Truth be told, we really should move the UN out of New York. My personal vote goes to one of those secret prisons in Eastern Europe where soldiers torture inmates for fun.

Danno, that day passed years ago. I think absolutely nothing of the U.N. and the potentates who dwell in it. I even know people who work in its large compound in Vienna and I could tell you stories, all negative and hypocritical. The last 5 years have killed off the last 10% of indulgence I had left for them.

The difference btw. your (and many other HOT AiR commenters') stand and mine (and others' here) is that I/we believe in its complete demise and not just moving it. In other words, the U.S. should leave it, before they move...I explained the reasons several times, but a few are:

- we pay a lot and they all have the same voting power
- if we think they're brutally against every U.S. move now, imagine if they were in, say, Caracas
- here we can easier spy on them
- being the host in N.Y. is very powerful

Anyway, get rid of the U.N. and I won't cry a single tear. It's a different world order since it was established and change needs to happen either in its charter, financing, structure, council/s, etc. or all. As is it's completeley worthless and much suffering goes on due to its idiosyncratic everything. Annan was the most worthless piece of s--t to cap it.

SouthernGent, a majority of U.N. delegates find 2 things in NY that they cannot get at home. Pretty hookers and the chance to vote, thus they do both regularly when here. :oP
