No I am saying that we have no proof that these guys have a nuclear weapon. And operating on erroneous assumptions is an oh, what’s the word? umm, dumb, thing to do.

Update: Just across on Fox: John Negroponte’s office says analysis of air samples in North Korea confirm that it was indeed a nuclear test.

"let them have the nuke because it can’t reach us."

North Korea also has the second largest submarine fleet in Asia. They don't need missiles or even cargo containers to get a nuke here. They can literally drive it over here completely undetected, detonate it off a coastal city OR sail it up a river and detonate it INLAND. Wake up people!

On a completely unrelated note, thank god Brownback (R) opened his mouth and showed America his true colors and that he is completely unfit. Yeah lets take all the North Korean refuegees, cause we handled all the Mexican ones so well. IDIOT.

So you’re saying let them have the nuke because it can’t reach us? Consider this; if it took them 8 years to develope a nuke (which is the most sophisticated part of the equation), how many years will it take them to develope a delivery method? Two years? Four years?

Dumb.

Why do they even need a sophisticated delivery method? It’s just as easy to walk it across the border. Who knows? Perhaps send it by shipping container on a sea vessel? We already know that approximately 10% of the containers are searched by U.S. Customs. That’s a 10% chance that we’ll catch it.

Yeah, that’s a great idea to just let them have the nuke

yes they do–well, SoKo does, not so much China–but are you
willing to sacrifice Dallas? (probably) but what about (leftist bastions) San Francisco or LA, the more likely targets anyway? It is simply a fact that we ARE the prime movers. Without us US, there would be no honest brokers; and the world would have already melted down into massive, globe-spanning, nuclear holocost with no voice for the rule of law (my cause) or any of the causes you (no doubt) embrace/espouse.

Why don't you take your causes and leave me to mine. Deal?

I seem to recall a rather effective, yet unanticipated delivery system that was dropped at our doorstep just a few short years ago.

Nineteen Saudis + Four Passenger Jets

Both are still in stock, no?

how about actually learning from the incompetence and previous mistakes

the reason we can't is that the logical conclusion is that the only way to effectively deal with this is to invade and go house-to-house, tunnel-to-tunnel, etc. That would be too bloody a process for most Americans to accept unless and until cities start getting vaporized.

(There is such a thing as common sense–a country that can’t get a handle on transportation or energy or food or manufacturing–where is the talent and infrastructure to build a serious nuclear weapons program?)

It's where Kim Jong Il decides it is. He has already demonstrated the willingness to let millions starve in order to supply his military, just like Stalin did. He has no compunction about funding programs to develop nukes and delivery systems while the rest of the country goes without roads or even food.

the Chinese and the S Koreans have the most at stake here, why do we always think we are the prime movers ?

And pray tell, how do you expect to deal with Iran, if you can't deal with NoKo?

Beyond that, consider for a moment this is another Iraq-like situation of mass hysteria. Do we know that the NK have weapons they can deliver against us or our allies?
The fact that the anti-American South Koreans (President Roh was elected by appealing to anti-Americanism) refuse to stop propping up the North Korean regime through their economic aid and "sunshine policy" should be taken into mind when considering not responding militarily to North Korea for fear of the shelling of Seoul. Our security and Japan's should not be held hostage by China, Russia, and the anti-American South Koreans.

If South Korea is unwilling to back us on sanctions, then perhaps we should stop buying Hyundai, Samsung, LG, and Kia.

Perhaps China is like a lot of other nations, saying one thing while doing another...

China has been building a massive barbed wire and concrete fence along parts of its border with North Korea in the most visible sign of Beijing's strained ties with its once-cozy communist neighbor...

Containment and deterrence worked once upon a time--worked extremely well for that matter. Of course one of the underpinnings of that was the notion that most of the world (except the Russians and their sphere of influence) accepted the right of the US to use its position to keep nuclear weapons from the hands of various countries. Does the rest of the world still feel this way?

Beyond that, consider for a moment this is another Iraq-like situation of mass hysteria. Do we know that the NK have weapons they can deliver against us or our allies? No. (There is such a thing as common sense--a country that can't get a handle on transportation or energy or food or manufacturing--where is the talent and infrastructure to build a serious nuclear weapons program?) Let's not get caught up again in fire, ready, aim. Call me stupid, but it seems to me that the Chinese and the S Koreans have the most at stake here, why do we always think we are the prime movers ?

Now you want to talk about a serious country with serious resources that is a serious threat--let's take a look at Iran.

I am glad Japan and Australia are separately imposing harsher measures than what is specified in the UN's resolution, and can only hope more countries follow suit. The UN showed a united front in a 15-0 vote, but China, South Korea and Russia must now...

"If you can’t draw the line at this pig, then there is no line." -AP

Now THAT I agree with.

Everything that is being done now has already been tried. Instead of everyone pointing out the failures of Clinton; how about actually learning from the incompetence and previous mistakes. What a silly thought, I know. Why do that when we can all revel in the depravity of personal politics and point fingers while NoKo grows stronger and stronger.

Anyone care to compare how many countries that have tested nukes that now have "the bomb", to those that tested and simply gave up? Anyone?

Is anyone else besides me hearing talk of how important it is to stop Iran now because we can just count on NoKo as a nuclear power? Frightening.

[...] Or maybe Bush and Rove are so upbeat because, on the one hand, China and South Korea have no intention of enforcing sanctions against North Korea, and on the other hand, the US itself is preparing to bust sanctions against Iran. [...]
