Damn, Allie, you're right. It's been too damn long since I watched Blade Runner; I forgot E J Olmos was the origami dude; I was trying to remember the actor who played Harrison Ford's captain that coined the 'skin jobs' term.
A point from the season's opener.

Successful resistances in history did not use suicide bombers. Many people don't understand that suicide bombers are proof of a failing and doomed guerrilla/insurgency, despite what the leftwing media says about the Palestinian and Iraqi suicide bombers as they go about glorifying it.

The Kamikaze, for example, did NOT prevent the fall of the Japanese Empire. In fact, it became a reason to use the atom bomb, twice, on Japan in lieu of invading the home islands.

Palestinian suicide bombers have not caused the Israelis to back down one inch, nor will they. And despite the media splash in Iraq, it hasn't moved one US soldier one inch closer to leaving. Psychologically, suicide bombers stiffen the resolve of their targets who instead of kowtowing, become filled with rage over the innocents who are targeted and killed.

This latter effect, BTW, is evidenced by the Cylon order to execute 200 people and to consider using nukes to "lower the population of humans to a manageable level."

Clearly, the resistance on Newe Caprica knew that Galactica and Pegasus were out there, they knew that there would be a Raptor acting as a listening post and link to the fleet. In such circumstances, one would expect the resistance to conserve fighters, not waste them. After all, they have less than 38,000 (I think that was the number on planet at end of season 2) humans on the planet.

I would expect a resistance on either the WWII French or post war Algerian model. I would not expect one based upon the Palestinian one.

I love the show!

As to the 'skin job' lingo, if I remember right, the term was first used by Anders when he led the resistance on Caprica. Since there's not a better, more succinct way to describe them, so it stuck.

Sorry, I don't think Ellen is a Cylon, but she is a person who will commit any treason or felony to get what her short-sighted mind wants at the moment. I don't think the Colonel will punish her--she has him wrapped around her finger. I wonder what will be her fate by the end of this season, though.

This just popped into my head, so I figured I would ask. Is there any real-life counterpart to the prayer that was said in the hangar deck with the line of salt? Obviously prayer is going to be a rather significant part of any military service, but is there a specific one that is said before going off to battle?

Interesting Blade Runner was mentioned because Edward had the role as the origami folding officer. So is the "skin job" label a creative input from him?

The "6" inside Baltar's head was the one who convinced him to sign the execution orders. The 6 who was the one who had the relationship with him on Caprica was the one he was in bed with at the beginning of the latest episode. She downloaded and then killed Xena in the episode that was Cyhlon Centered from last season.

The Pegasus one...well, someone already posted.

Alright, what is all this 'skin jobs' lingo? Don't you guys remember what that meant in Blade Runner? It's gutter slang. It's not nice. If you're going to use geek lingo, you better know what you're using. And don't try slipping it in there in Klingon, either. I pioneered that trick.

I've been a life-long SF fan. I've done about 170 anthologies in the field and Marty Greenberg, my friend and co-editor, helped found the SciFi Channel.

That said, I'm not sure hotair should be posting non-political stuff.

But if you like Battlestar Galactica you might consider checking out Interstellar Empires (1983), Space Wars (1988) and Space Dreadnoughts (1990).

Wolfman ... GIMME YOUR LUNCH MONEY!

Just kiddin'. Yeah, it's a cool show, but I used to watch the old version when I was a kid, so this one bugs me in some ways. For example, not only is Boomer no longer a guy, he's a chick, and a smokin' HOT chick at that, so that's cool, except she's not really a chick, she's a machine, she's a cylon, but not really, but she is, kind of, but she doesn't know it so she isn't really, well no she is, but she can make babies with human males and she can die, but she can't really die, but she can. I think.

I guess is I watched the whole thing I just might get it, but then I'd never have sex again.

The Pegasus #6 detonated the nuke and took out the Cloud Nine and a few other ships in the season finale.

There's a Battlestar wiki that seems pretty detailed.

I would imagine that the Ressurection ship is on the ground. By the way, on Scar, rebirth was kinda hard because they didn't have a ressurection ship close enough to download to, though that seems a little wierd considering that machines would probably decide that redundancy with that sort of thing is the way to go.

'I wonder if she will turn on Adama and the humans'

That reminds me of the good old days on Caprica and the return to Galactica when you just knew that Sharon was going to betray them all, just like the other one did, but you just didn't know when. I hope Sharon finds out about her baby soon, so she can go back to being the character of ambigious loyalties.

Also, just so we're clear, Lucy Lawless is #3 (the Aussie), right?

I'm not quite ready to let this one go, but it's looking like it might be about time. Every since she was introduced on Season One(?), I knew, I just knew Ellen Tigh was a Cylon. Perhaps I was wrong, maybe she's just an idiot.

I hope Starbuck gets rescued soon, because she's far too cool to spend the whole season stuck in that prison.

This stream of consciousness post has led to the part where I must ask about #6. During the course of the show, there have been three #6's that were important. The first of course, is #6 in Baltar's head. Whatever happened to her, and was she actually real, or was she Baltar's failing attempts to stave off insanity? The fact that Caprica has a Baltar in her head implies that there was something 'real' about the both of them. Obviously, Caprica is the next important #6, she is the one that caused the ceasefire in season two and started the occupation at the end of season 2. The last #6 is the one Baltar saved from the crew of the Pegasus. #6 in Baltar's head dissapeared shortly after she came on the scene so that's a little wierd. Anyway, whatever happened to her, is she dead? Did she ever make use of that nuke Baltar gave her? Sorry if any of that was confusing.

Finally, I have a question, a poll, if you will. #6 once told Baltar (I think on the pilot) that there were eleven models of skin jobs. Judging by past history, most models have at least one version integrated in human society, either as subversives or sleepers. Given that I think only six of the models have been revealed, who do you think are the other five?

This stream of consciousness post has led to the part where I must ask about #6. During the course of the show, there have been three #6′s that were important. The first of course, is #6 in Baltar’s head. Whatever happened to her, and was she actually real, or was she Baltar’s failing attempts to stave off insanity? The fact that Caprica has a Baltar in her head implies that there was something ‘real’ about the both of them. Obviously, Caprica is the next important #6, she is the one that caused the ceasefire in season two and started the occupation at the end of season 2. The last #6 is the one Baltar saved from the crew of the Pegasus. #6 in Baltar’s head dissapeared shortly after she came on the scene so that’s a little wierd.

The big question is - is the Resurrection ship on or in the orbit of New Caprica (especially given the turnaround time of Starbuck's spouse)? If so - will the Galactica spot it and destroy it?

What’s up with the Cylons saying that their resources are stretched too thin to deal with the Human insurgency?

It was mentioned in one of the last two episodes that this particular bunch of Cylons are a small group that came to find the humans for the idea of trying to "live together". It is presumed that they are NOT being supported by the entire Cylon race, but are experimenting as a separate group.

Someone on NRO said Tricia Helfer looked terrible this season; she looked pretty damn good to me !!

There was one shot in this episode where she looked MUCH older than she usually does. I think it was just terrible lighting.

I’m gonna have to Netflix this one. Everyone I know keeps talking about it…

Plan on staying in for a few days, once you start -- you won't be able to stop. I missed the first season and rented the DVD's. I stayed up way too late for a few days watching.

Let's not forget when the Rising Star patrons were taken hostage, Ellen chose to rush out from the restroom straight to the terrorists. Then she revealed she was the XO's wife which immediately made her the first choice to be killed if demands were not met.

By the way, I was only joking with you guys about the “dork”.

Because as we all know Vermont was the birthplace of cool

Hey, I didn't say there aren't dorks here... just not me. I've got friends obsessed with Warcraft who are fully aware that they're dorks, and I make sure to remind them every chance I get. But you're right, VT isn't the birthplace of cool. It's the birthplace of hippies, gays, and spoiled college kids (who often like to appear as dirty hippies while driving around brand new Audis and Range Rovers)

Am I the only one that is really starting to dig the character of Anders this season? I know Tigh is the ostensible leader of the resistance, but I get the feeling that without Anders and his experience on Caprica, the New Caprica resistance would be in serious disarray.

Oh, and Tigh definitely won't kill Ellen. As much as she constantly hurts him, he loves her. My guess is she survives to make it back to the fleet, and is hanged as a collaborator.
