St. Cindy says she’s a finalist for Nobel Peace Prize

Would you believe I saw this on Google News hours ago and passed on it? And now it’s red-fonted on Drudge. Son of a bitch.
She’s probably telling the truth. How could she not be a finalist? Look at who the nominators are. It’s not exactly a short list, either — there are 191 this year according to the Nobel homepage. Their identities are secret but Bloomberg has some informed guesses.
Odds of her winning? 16-1 says Centrebet, an Australian bookie consulted by Bloomberg. Reasons to think she’ll win: she knows the right people, she’s grief-stricken, or at least as grief-stricken as anyone who hangs out with movie stars can be, and she’s fantasized publicly about killing Bush. Reasons why she won’t win: they gave it to an American four years ago for basically the same reasons they’d be giving it to Cindy. Besides, if they’re going to go American, isn’t there a much better candidate?

Oh come on!
Wasn’t “Tookie” Williams nominated for the Nobel also?
‘Course, they “terminated” him before he found out whether or not he made the short list.
Spare me! All she-hag has to do is get a couple of mindless sheep to send in a letter and viola – her name is in the hat.

I haven’t followed the train wreck this is St. Cindy, but is she into the Truthers? If so, she’s a shoe-in.
Editor on October 12, 2006 at 6:51 PM
An honor for her, to be sure. Whether she wins or not (my money is on not) it’s encouraging to see her recognized for all she has done to advance the efforts of peace.
GregH on October 12, 2006 at 6:51 PM
You’re serious, aren’t you, Greg?
Allahpundit on October 12, 2006 at 6:53 PM
Greg is always serious. That’s why he’s HotAir’s Lovable Troll.
Number 2 on October 12, 2006 at 6:55 PM
Yeah, I wouldn’t feel right banning him. He’s polite, he stays on topic. If your immune system can’t handle a troll like that, it ain’t much of an immune system.
Allahpundit on October 12, 2006 at 6:59 PM
That about ends the argument. . . the Nobel Peace Prize is one large pile of dog crap.
rplat on October 12, 2006 at 7:02 PM
Arrghh, more wasted resources on this JACK ASS?
GregH is as cool as “they” can get and has some large nads posting the stuff he does here. Good on him and his good but misguided soul…I’m a noob compared to him but still see the value of a whipping boy.
What exactly has Sheethead done to foster peace? If anything she has played right into the hands of the Jihadists and any of the other 3rd world pukes with her cultural eroding self indulgent 15 minutes of fame. Nobel Peace prize? I feel the flying monkeys knocking on the backdoor so it might just happen. Hopefully not, I am ashamed enough of our cultural antics as it is (no not self loathing we still got one of the best things going just needs a bit of improving here and there).
Do I hear violins?
GoingThere on October 12, 2006 at 7:11 PM
Sure I’m serious – I’m not saying you need to like her, or even that she should win the prize. Frankly, I’m sure there are others who have done more to advance peace.
However, I do find it encouraging that this mom who lost her son in war, and started by herself in her battle, has managed to come so far.
While you may dislike her, and I’m not going to try to change your opinion there, as a fellow American, don’t you take some comfort in knowing that if somebody as simple as she can have such an impact, that maybe you, or I, could maybe have an impact? I find it encouraging.
And thanks for the back-handed compliment ;)
GregH on October 12, 2006 at 7:22 PM
Hitler was also a nominee (in the 1930s).
There, I said it.
Niko on October 12, 2006 at 7:23 PM
One word.
Arafat.
Nuff said.
bbz123 on October 12, 2006 at 7:24 PM
It’s so easy for him to stay on topic – “love and peace”.
I wish I could be that simple. No, not really. It would be easier but not very challenging.
One more sufferable attribute for the ‘immune system’ – he never lingers.

• Mets are 4-1 in their last 5 League Championship games.
• Mets are 9-3 in their last 12 playoff home games.

There’s no such thing as a “finalist” for the Nobel Peace Prize, only nominees.
Donnah on October 12, 2006 at 7:36 PM
Things started to fall apart at the end of the Reagan years. Here are the recipients by year:
1988 United Nations Peace-Keeping Forces.
1989 Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama (Tibet).
1990 President Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev
1991 Aung San Suu Kyi
1992 Rigoberta Menchú
1993 President Nelson Mandela
1994 PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat
1995 Joseph Rotblat
1996 Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo and José Ramos Horta
1997 International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) and Jody Williams
1998 John Hume and David Trimble
1999 Médecins Sans Frontières
2000 President Kim Dae Jung
2001 United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan
2002 Jimmy Carter
2003 Shirin Ebadi
2004 Wangari Maathai
2005 The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Mohamed ElBaradei
I can see Cindy sliding right in here for 2006.
Valiant on October 12, 2006 at 7:36 PM
Cindy referred to herself as a “finalist.”
Valiant on October 12, 2006 at 7:38 PM
GregH, I would agree with you wholly if Sheehan were not such a charlaton. From fraudulent fasts to gushing in the presence of a tyrant, she’s become nothing more than a self-promoting media whore. If she carried out her disagreement with the government’s actions with integrity and humility I’d have respect for her. However, she transparently craves attention for the sake of attention and rails against George W Bush, rather than the whole of the government that is responsible for what she opposes. She blames Bush entirely for the war, but gives a pass to those members of Congress who match her politics, but who voted for the war.
Bellicose Muse on October 12, 2006 at 7:40 PM
Yes, I know, Valiant.
Donnah on October 12, 2006 at 8:17 PM
I still cannot understand why she is given a pass all the time and those parents who have also lost children but support this action are shunned. I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if she “won”. It is funny that the troll thinks she advanced peace. She’s advanced a headache for many of us who don’t agree with her and have to put up with her fans coming onto our private property to “protest” our Blue Stars in the window to honor “killers”. Something I am sure the resident troll also thinks doing that is a fine and peaceful thing to do. Probably does the same.
Catie96706 on October 12, 2006 at 8:32 PM
Sorry
Valiant on October 12, 2006 at 8:32 PM
Cindy Sheehan is a stooge. Took her fifteen minutes and milked into a farce that only a left wing idiot could find redeeming. A complete moron — Ms. Sheehan.
The Nobel Prize has been gutted to irrelevance. Need proof? See 2002 recepient…Jimmuh Karta.
Spider Dan on October 12, 2006 at 8:38 PM
I just read a verbatum transcript of Saint jummah talking to diane sawyer after his trip to nk to reason with the meglomaniacal Elvis impersonator. History proved hin so wrong he needs to find a pistol and shoot himself. IMHO.
tormod on October 12, 2006 at 8:38 PM
Her version of “peace” is hating Bush enough to want him dead and swooning over Hugo Chavez, Che, Castro, et al. If the current definition of peace means hating good and loving evil, count me out. Call it The Nobel Hate Prize.
infidel4life on October 12, 2006 at 8:39 PM
I think there is a good chance she will get it, although it is going to be a shared award:
Her, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
LegendHasIt on October 12, 2006 at 8:43 PM
If, and I strongly emphasise if, this “Pig in Clothes,” was to win the Nobel Peace Prize, then, forever more this prize would mean nothing more to me than a pile of dog crap. This woman (snome would call her that, I don’t) is an idiotic piece of crap that should be sent to the lowest parts of the planet earth to rot with each and every other piece of crap sent there by history and by those who judge garbage. Her Son Casey was a hero, his mother was an asshole!

Any member of Congress could have nominated her – could be Maxine Waters…
When Tookey Williams was nominated, Bill Handel of KFI 640 in Burbank called a congressperson and had himself nominated, just to prove that anyone could be.
It has as much value as being nominated by, say, the U.N. for an award. Increasingly it means nothing, nada, nichts, rien, niente, and in Swedish, intet.
What would Alfred Nobel think?
Entelechy on October 12, 2006 at 9:36 PM
Really… Okay, let us compare Saint Cindy Sheehan’s actions following the death of her son Casey in Iraq with those of another family that lost a son in the war, Joe and Jan Johnson. By the way, Saint Cindy’s son, Casey, and the Johnson’s son, Justin, were in the same company and best friends.
Sheehan has called Muslim radicals who killed the two soldiers “freedom fighters” and camped outside President Bush’s Texas ranch demanding to meet with him, becoming a MSM phenomenon in the process.
The Johnsons, on the other hand, still support the war and while they have availed themselves to the MSM, the media has shown little interest in them. Probably because they prefer not to make attention whoring spectacles of themselves.
The Sheehan family has been torn apart by Cindy’s actions, and she and her husband are divorcing. The Johnson family bonded in the wake of the tragedy, and come together for reunions at least once a month.
Sheehan has accepted large quantities of money and gratuities to speak about her son and against the war. The Johnsons have refused any money but speak freely when asked to.
Justin Johnson’s final resting place has a headstone and is decorated with flags. It is a small plot of honor to him and what he believed in. Casey Sheehan’s has not even a marker.
The Johnsons tried to contact Cindy to talk about their sons, who became best friends after they met at Fort Hood in Texas. But Sheehan calls the Johnsons “brainwashed” and refuses to interact with them.
Cindy Sheehan cavorts with, and praises, foreign dictators and hate-for-America filled despots. The Johnsons cavort with Americans who support… America.
They nominated the wrong encourager(s), GregH.
SilverStar830 on October 12, 2006 at 10:13 PM
The only reason she was “successful” in getting her message out was because she had a ready, willing and able MSM there to help her. Had she been conservative and a supporter of the WOT, she would have been swept under the rug. And Greggie Boy, you know that’s true.
pullingmyhairout on October 12, 2006 at 10:27 PM
Since anyone who wins the IgNobel Peace Prize will share that “honor” with Jimmuh, Yassir, Kofi, and the IAEA, it almost seems a suitable way to recognize Peace Mom. The prize is kind of like the skull and crossbones on a bottle of rat poison– a graphic warning not meant to be understood by rats.
NellE on October 13, 2006 at 12:32 AM
if Baghdad Sheehan wins the Nobel Peace Prize, then it should be disbanded for good.
Starblazer on October 13, 2006 at 12:36 AM
Here’s Cindy’s take on other mothers who’ve lost sons and daughters in the war, from HuffPo:
So Cindy Sheehan uses the “absolute moral authority” MoDo bestowed on her to accuse grieving mothers of being callous, bloodthirsty dupes who may or may not have the right to their own opinion.
Because they don’t agree with her.
In her world, that “Get out of jail free” card only works for her.
So, no, I don’t find it “encouraging” to see her getting any kind of recognition while she gets a pass for the hateful bile she spews.
John from WuzzaDem on October 13, 2006 at 1:03 AM
Now, lets see that footage of the Minutemen at Columbia. Now compare it to (any/all?) footage of Sheehan. Notice the difference? She is a testament to the Right’s tolerance of her, and of it’s respect of the freedoms offered her by the Constitution and laws by which this country was founded and is maintained. Will the mainstream media ever pick up on that? What are the odds?
Wedge Plissken on October 13, 2006 at 2:53 AM
Wedge, I bet it’s worse than 16-1
Mortis on October 13, 2006 at 5:43 AM
Too bad she didn’t win. I would’ve just loved to see wall-to-wall coverage of her up until the election.
[/sarcasm]
TexasRainmaker on October 13, 2006 at 6:01 AM
When they gave it to Carter, it became worthless. If they give it to this media whore, it becomes a punch line.
Hening on October 13, 2006 at 8:02 AM
The fellow who won runs a bank in Bangledesh that provides small loans for people to start up businesses–textiles, crafts, small farms etc. Has loaned out over 2 billion over the years in a very successful program to fight poverty at its source.
Good news is so dull, huh?
honora on October 13, 2006 at 10:20 AM
Grief stricken? Isn’t this the mother that was so grief stricken that she couldn’t be bothered with a headstone for her patriotic son?
With the crap I’ve seen the last few weeks this hardly surprises me. We have “conservatives” selling out to the Dems and falling for every stupid trick they pull out of their hat and now that disgrace, Cindy Sheehan, is nominated for a Nobel Prize.
Bizzaro World.
Thanks for the enlightening post.
Cary on October 13, 2006 at 1:21 PM
I feel very sorry for Sheehan. She is obviously mentally ill and has been taken advantage of. Even Huffington had to separate herself from Sheehan because of Sheehan’s claims that we were “nuking Iraq”.

Valiant, Let’s don’t forget Adolfo Perez Esquivel, leftist nut, anti-American, supporter of Hamas, Hezbollah, Cuba, Chavez, and Montoneros (the Argentinian terrorist group that curently has many members in the government). He won the prize in 1980.
