Poor Teddy.

First he loses CNN, then he loses his mind.

Or was it the other way around.

iNeXuS on October 11, 2006 at 9:58 AM

Excellent Vent Michelle! Al Quaeda = freedom fighters ??? What, were they being held captive in the Trade Towers and Pentagon?

RobertCSampson on October 11, 2006 at 10:09 AM

This notion that the profession of journalism is somehow above patriotism and national loyalty is just pure elitist bullshit. Obviously these people see themselves as our ’superiors’, well I seem to remember a wise man declaring that he who exalts himself shall be humbled.

infidel4life on October 11, 2006 at 10:12 AM

CNN had no problem deciding which side it was on. Remember Eason Jordan, Teddy?

whatnext on October 11, 2006 at 10:12 AM

Excellent Vent! I never get tired of typing that. I hope you don’t get tired of reading it.

One question: the sidebar has a link to Culture Warrior. I didn’t catch that part of the vent. Was it edited out?

Ted Turner doesn’t understand “us vs. them” or why news media used the American flag? I find it ironic that he makes these statements at a “NATIONAL” press club meeting -”national” hinting to the concept that he is currently making such comments inside of a “nation”, which has a flag, and which was attacked. If he wishes to be a globalist, I wish he’s do so outside of America at the “INTERNATIONAL” PRESS CLUB.

bucktowndusty on October 11, 2006 at 10:16 AM

Wow. I’ve finally found a Democrat who is even dumber than Howard Dean…how’s it going Ted? Seeing as how the free press is guaranteed by the Constitution, I don’t see a problem with showing the American Flag in the news room. It’s why they are allowed to exist. Press isn’t so free in other areas of the world. As the earlier poster stated, remember Eason Jordan? Soft reporting for continued access. Now I guess if Ted and the other ‘neutral’ reporters want to be treated like the press in other countries, we could start bombing their houses and throwing them in jail when they say things we don’t like. As much fun as it might be to imagine playing ‘he fell down the steps’ with Keith Olbermann about 20 times, I think our system is pretty good and maybe Ted ‘I have no brain in my head’ Turner might give old Glory a little bit of a break. Nice vent Michelle.

austinnelly on October 11, 2006 at 10:32 AM

Back in my brainwashed, voting Democratic days I sincerely liked Ted and even Jimmah Carter. Now that I have grown philosophically and ideologically, I see them for what they are: BUFFOONS!

labwrs on October 11, 2006 at 10:43 AM

The “still making up my mind” line is unbelievable. Has he gone totally off his rocker?

brazilnut on October 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM

No Ted is lying. He had no problems deciding which side he is on. What he has a problem with is stating which side he is on without risk of being treated like he should.

Just like Jane Fonda is (and was back in Vietnam) he is to cowardly and dishonest to come out and say flat out that he is on the terrorist’s side and pray for the destruction of America.

As for the media being ‘above patriotism’. What a bunch of BS – they aren’t ‘above’ anything – they are on the other side!

CrazyFool on October 11, 2006 at 11:01 AM

God must love buffoons because He created so many and assures all of us- sometime in our lives- become one ourselves. However, only moonbats like Ted have turned it into a profession.

Mike O on October 11, 2006 at 11:11 AM

it does seem as though the old guard members of the media want to return to the gory days of them being the gatekeepers of information. Good of ole Ted to clarify that he’s just trying to make up his mind.

Ennuipundit on October 11, 2006 at 11:36 AM

Ted Turner’s ramblings…

Thanks for the synopsis, Michelle. It was just too painful for me to listen to all the way through.

Lawrence on October 11, 2006 at 11:57 AM

You cant scream ” FREEDOM OF THE PRESS” afforded you by untold American deaths fighting for your freedoms, then pretend you are ABOVE all that? I’m so utterly disgusted I cant see straight.
Put a flag in every news room, it was earned!
.
I seem to remember a saying that works now, Love it or leave it.

shooter on October 11, 2006 at 12:14 PM

Ted must be ODed on antidepressants is all I can say. How embarassing for him and our country. Terrorists must love him and CNN. Thanks for putting this on the front burner.

Meanwhile his former wife Jane Fonda aka Hanoi Jane, in the past two weeks, was in Sweden campaigning for her Socialist candidate there.

Webutante on October 11, 2006 at 12:17 PM

He made his money in the US. He speaks his mind in the US. He publicly sides against the President in the US with no consequences. Could he have done any of those things anywhere else?

What’s wrong with reporters wearing a US flag pin? They may read the news from an impartial point of view, but there is a reason US reporters didn’t embed with the enemy. The enemy wants them dead. The only reason they can be impartial is because one side in this war allows them to be free. The other side would not give them that luxury.

High Desert Wanderer on October 11, 2006 at 12:46 PM

Last night I was watching old news reels and Hollywood Goes to War from WWII. Sure am glad CNN and Ted Turner weren’t around back then. How much longer does America have to suffer these Marxist-Leninist fools?

Kevin R on October 11, 2006 at 12:48 PM

The Drive by media is shameful.

God Bless America!!

MarkB on October 11, 2006 at 1:00 PM

Michelle begin her vent with the right words, and yes, context matters. The genesis of the phrase in question lies in the Presidential address to a joint session of congress on 20 September, 2001, six weeks prior to the press conference with Pres. Chirac. This is the speech that includes the line, “We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail.”

The relevant paragraphs are aimed at the American public understanding that the war on terror won’t be easy or quick. And how often have we heard the old media state that the President claimed those very things?

This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat.

Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.

So Ted, make up your mind. Are you with us, or are you with the terrorists? Need some more research, more study, more reading up? Take all the time you need, we wouldn’t want you to make another error as big as marrying Hanoi Jane.

Great vent, Michelle. As always, you serve our country well by placing your journalistic foot with uncanny accuracy in the crotch of those who belittle our nation.

Well, Mr. Turner, perhaps another shot of Kentucky Burbon might help you decide.

The MSM reporters simply DO NOT want to tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys. Too many of them are hoping that their news station will become the minister of information once the Caliphate has been established.

As for those reporters and new stations NOT WANTING TO display the American flag or admitting that they are an American news company, I can only reckon that in THEIR minds…

BEING AN AMERICAN MEANS NOT ADMITTING TO BEING AN AMERICAN.

This is why many of us listen to Fox News Channel, WABC-Radio, and read Michelle’s articles and frequent HotAir and why they are so successful.

MAIN STREAM MEDIA–SHAME ON YOU! STOP DRINKING THAT “KOOL-AID” FROM THE COMMUNAL MSM TOILET BOWL!

The False Dervish on October 11, 2006 at 4:30 PM

As for those reporters and newnews stations

.

I meant newS stations. Sorry.

The False Dervish on October 11, 2006 at 4:32 PM

Nobody pays attention to Turner anymore…now we see why. Maybe it’s time for Ted’s decal to join his wife’s in the urinals of our VFW’s?

pubscout on October 11, 2006 at 5:28 PM

Is it just me or is the formatting of the site screwy for everyone??

NTWR on October 11, 2006 at 5:57 PM

Grent Vent Michelle – as always! This is yet another example of why Hot Air is an essential news source.

Ted Turner and his bias can be described by his choice of wives – one of which was “Hanoi Jane”. I am still wondering why “Hanoi Jane” was not prosecuted for Treason as she actively aided the North Vietnamese. Ted Turner seems to be cut from the same cloth.

omegaram on October 11, 2006 at 7:16 PM

What do you expect from the now emasculated globe trotting billionaire victim blaming guy that married and (assumingly) copulated the commie traitor bi*** Hanoi Jane?

SilverStar830 on October 11, 2006 at 8:28 PM

This bothers me. It bothers me because a total ‘tard like that has so much jack in the bank. He wouldn’t last 30 seconds at my weekly card game with his intellect, but he can buy and sell me 1000 times over. Where did I screw up?

(But at least I didn’t have to knock one off with Hanoi Jane. That’s my consolation prize, I guess).

HerrMorgenholz on October 11, 2006 at 8:37 PM

Where is the nurse with his medication? She should be fired for letting him out of his room.

theholyhermit on October 12, 2006 at 12:15 AM

From another HA thread, same topic – couldn’t have said it better…

In all defense of Ted, he has supported the war on Terror. The Terror of Western Civilization….

Michelle, kudos for corking this twit.

Next time you run across the good ole boy, ask what would Ted say if newsrooms flew the Confederate flag, or had it as lapel pins, instead?

He is still on that side, isn’t he?

He talks like a Muppet and thinks like a moppet.
