Michael Yon breaks some news. Or, at least, independently confirms the news broken by Bill Gertz last night in the WashTimes.
But he does add one important detail:
The source stressed the importance of bearing in mind that though the explosion occured in North Korea — if it was actually a test and not merely a dictator clamoring for attention and influence — the test may have been by or for the Iranians.
Why would he think that?
Ahmadinejad’s not the only world leader telling nuclear lies these days.
Update: The Interocitor has a theory about why the NK test fizzled.
Update: Here we go again. Japan has detected another tremor originating in North Korea. Standby for updates.
Update: Fox says the South Koreans didn’t detect anything.
Update: Looks like it was just a quake.

hope this doesn’t destroy unity to sanction NK, we just barely avoided letting the genie out

I have a slightly different take on this.
It is the West who’s trying not to lose their face, not North Korea. Thus we try to pretend that they don’t have the nukes, and that we don’t have to negotiate. In public.

After blaming Bush for the test taking place, the Dems will turn around and take credit for the dud. I predict they will claim that they knew all along that you could not get a nuclear reaction from the spent fuel rods of a commercial reactor, which is why they gave Kim Jung-Il the light water reactors in the first place.
See, appeasement works. We should do the same for Iran.
HA!

No matter how you cut it, it is apparent that this ‘bomb’ was not even half of what it was supposed to be, and the thing to remember is that lil Kim would, if he could, develop and use nukes. China is not happy about this, and the pressure must remain on them if we hope to shut down the lil guy.
Russia wishes to see America, and its friends panicked. Remember that the next time they need financial assistance from the U.S.

I hate to say it, but in that picture Ahmadinejad looks like he’s trying to pinch a wicked loaf.

Ahmadinejad’s argument on managing the world is a scary thought.
And BSB want’s to appease the Iranians by giving them the technology, like the Clinton admin did?!??!
I hope that was a joke. If not, then I’m investing in iodine tablets.

Ahmi has the capacity to become an invincible global power, with teeth. Just look at the caption.

This is an opportunity. They had a failed missile test a few months ago and a failed nuke test last weekend. They can’t get it working, it’s the perfect time to go in there and disarm them militarily. Now! Before they fix the glitches. This would also send a strong message to Iran.

Maybe the US should also conduct a missile test. Somewhere to the north of South Korea.

What reason is there to think that whoever is lighting nuclear fireworks in North Korea, whether its Kim or Ahmadinejad, is going to stop trying before they get an atomic bang? America and the world need to begin doing more than hoping they run out of fuel before they get it right.

CNN is now reporting that the U.S. Geological Survey as well as the Japanese are now saying that the quake (5.8 Richter) originated off the coast of Japan’s northernmost island.

The pressure is currently on China as it took the most political damage from the nuclear[?] test, but that is the only ray of hope in this atomic quagmire.
Lil Kim has managed to make himself a big, fat target.

Beware! Of punishing Kim Jong Il for testing (or even trying) a nuke when the egomaniac could come back with hey, it wasn’t a nuke.
This wouldn’t be the first time he reversed rhetoric and blamed others (us) for his continued escalation.
