Video: Michelle on the Columbia Minutemen debacle
posted at 10:00 pm on October 9, 2006 by Allahpundit
The Factor’s on the road this week so the boss was treated to a free trip to Chicago and a live studio audience tonight. She was initially told she’d be talking about John Mark Karr of all things, but thankfully O’R settled on a better idea.
Her point about no one ever throwing pies at Michael Moore is well taken, but I can’t help thinking there’s an easy fat joke in there somewhere that she missed. Too bad.
As for the lovely KP, I’m reliably informed that she and the boss had dinner together tonight — a fact which should by itself be enough to have her banned from the party.
But that’s probably not necessary anymore. Close your eyes at some points during this clip and you’d have a hard time telling which one was the conservative.

I’m going to go ahead and declare it. A little early, I know, and our side doesn’t have the best track record with this sort of thing, but I think her conversion is, for all intents and purposes, complete. And so I declare:

Blowback

Did she miss it or is she above that? Maybe she’s trying to set an example for certain others…

>I’m going to go ahead and declare it.
You are insane. Love–or something–has blinded you. She’s a liberal, man, face it!
Alex K on October 9, 2006 at 10:05 PM
Agree with Alex. She took the high road.
mikeyboss on October 9, 2006 at 10:06 PM
You know, Allah, as I was watching the segment tonight, I was thinking to myself…KP sounds more and more like a conservative. KP, welcome.
d1carter on October 9, 2006 at 10:09 PM
AP, you must be more charming than you sometimes lead us to believe – it paid off with KP. Hopefully she’ll never hold that banner against you. Congratulations,
Entelechy on October 9, 2006 at 10:10 PM
I agree AP, KP is no longer welcome in the Democratic Party. I wish I had the power to sit down with Howard Dean and play him some Factor clips of her appearances and see what he had to say.
Perhaps you could confirm what I believe about the “live” part. Yes, it was obviously a live studio audience, but I called my mom earlier and she was watching and tried insisting to me that the show was aired live. I insisted it wasn’t, and that O’Reilly rarely is, and that if it had been we’d have seen the little flag flapping with the word “Live” in the upper left corner if it had been. She refused to believe me. “What say you?”
Also, Michelle made great points, though I wish she had more time (as always these debates are cut way too short). But she could have really torn down Bill’s little OKC bombing example of rightwing extremists. That was a whacked out terrorist attack, not a rightwing extremist attack on free speech. I could tell Michelle was itching to react, but again, no time. I would have liked to see talk about the 04 election tire slashers, or bullets fired at various RNC headquarters, etc. etc.
On a side note, Malkin was smokin’ tonight. I don’t ever comment on her appearance the way we all do about KP and the rest, partly because she’s a happily married intellectual and “the boss” over here, but I had to say she looked great tonight. Her and KP were both rockin’ those brown shirts (definitely no pun intended).
RightWinged on October 9, 2006 at 10:14 PM
Oh by the way…. Lieberman/KP 08?
RightWinged on October 9, 2006 at 10:15 PM
is there anything bill o’reilly doesn’t know? :-p
Defector01 on October 9, 2006 at 10:16 PM
No thanks, I’d rather keep them open (if you know what I mean).
Rick on October 9, 2006 at 10:20 PM
Does O’R need me to fill in for him? I think I could moderate a discussion between MM & KP, better than he does. A nice long debate between those ladies….
Please note: the Columbia banner at the MinuteMan speech had illegal misspelled “ilegal”. Those kids should be expelled for stupidity.
Marvin on October 9, 2006 at 10:20 PM
Sadly, they spelled it right Marvin. That’s Spanish, and they likely knew what they were doing.
RightWinged on October 9, 2006 at 10:23 PM
How’s this for a red-blooded American male fantasy:
Instead of Hannity & Colmes….. Malkin & Powers
*swoon*
infidel4life on October 9, 2006 at 10:27 PM
Allah, could you comment on Bill’s claim that Oklahoma was a far right militia job. I thought they had pretty well established that Terry Nichols had contacts with radical islamist’s through his wife in the Phillipines. Wouldn’t getting support/training from Al Qaeda take it out of the right wing??
P.S. What is with O’Reilly constantly maintaining that “the Right does it too” every time he discusses something from the loony left. Could you reccomend that the “Boss” call him on this sometime.
America1st on October 9, 2006 at 10:30 PM
Bravo. I’d love to be able to post on this, but there’s nothing else to say. I’m not a big O’Reilly fan, though I certainly admire him, but he got it right. As a recently graduated college student, it’s a cesspool of ignorance and hatred…especially once they (students and professors) hear that you’re a conservative.
StoutRepublican on October 9, 2006 at 10:33 PM
“Fair and Balanced” or something like that.
Rick on October 9, 2006 at 10:39 PM
Make Kiran Chetry, Julie Banderas, and Rebecca Gomez regular guests and you’ve got a program.
RightWinged on October 9, 2006 at 10:41 PM
Yeah, Banderas is unearthly. Good lord, is she hot.
Allahpundit on October 9, 2006 at 10:43 PM
Normaly, I’d give KP the slight edge on looks (and her ideology seems to be tilting the right way… seeeeems), but dang did the Boss look gooooood, tonight. Is that how she looks “live”?
Editor on October 9, 2006 at 10:46 PM
I live in Chicago. Damn, I would’ve loved to be in the studio audience had I known about this. How do I always miss this stuff.
Happy Columbus day.

I wonder where Michelle and Kristin went to dinner? Too bad Marshall Fields isn’t there anymore, it was always a great place to shop!
Catie96706 on October 9, 2006 at 11:05 PM
Well I don’t work for Michelle so I’ll just come out and say that I think she’s very pretty. So there.
KP is pretty but still too liberal for yours truly.
Benaiah on October 9, 2006 at 11:16 PM
Hey Allah, shouldn’t a thoughtful boss like MM take a hard-working guy like you along on a business dinner once in a while, like when KP is going, and then politely excuse herself after appetizers?
eagles5 on October 9, 2006 at 11:22 PM
Well, KP’s a little out of my age range.
Allahpundit on October 9, 2006 at 11:26 PM
Ok, Allah, then shouldn’t a thoughtful boss like MM take a hard-working reader like me along on a business dinner once in a while, like when KP is going, and then politely excuse herself after appetizers?

Allah- Kirsten isn’t that old!
Pam on October 10, 2006 at 12:39 AM
No, a six-year difference is nothing to sniff at.
She’s also way out of my league, but let’s not let that spoil the fantasy.
Allahpundit on October 10, 2006 at 12:41 AM
Absolutely. Folks may have noticed I always mention her whenever KP’s looks are brought up, in addition to Kiran Chetry and Rebecca Gomez. By the way, has anyone else read the rumors about why Banderas had to leave her previous job? Sounds like she’s a wild chick.
RightWinged on October 10, 2006 at 1:02 AM
Out of your league?? Am I sensing self doubt? Please guy! You are a sucessful person. You are very influential in the internet media. You are a pioneer in the new revolution. Out of your league? I think not. Have you asked? Have you tried? You have one job…bring her to undestand the force….
Really, think about it…never think any woman is out of reach. Yes she is a babe ( and many other things..I have most respect ), but please. You are the man…show it :D
lsutiger on October 10, 2006 at 1:07 AM
Well Allah, a six year difference is what is between myself and my husband. Unfortunately, I happen to be on the positive side of those 6 years. My brother is the dorkiest guy out there but his wife used to be a cheerleader for the Tampa Bay Bucs. She married him three years before he even thought about law school. She also towers over him by about 8 inches as well. If you don’t ask, you’ll never know.
Catie96706 on October 10, 2006 at 1:11 AM
The best part is about 2/3 of the way in and just for a second Michelle slips KP a little look like “Man, I can’t believe how rational she sounds”.
Still, “conversions” are a tricky thing. Behind all the intellectual arguments there has to be a visceral, gut-level, emotional insight (?) about who’s the good guys and who’s the bad guys. It’s pretty rare that people can actually jump that fence.
Halley on October 10, 2006 at 1:45 AM
I had to watch the clip twice; those little ankle biters at the beginning of the clip made me so mad I couldn’t concentrate on teh rest of the interview. Egad, what arrogant little turds. Ever heard of the 1st amendment? And you’re calling the minutemen fascists? Where’s the torches? No pitchforks? Seriously, Michelle looked great and was sharp; she was almost bouncing out of her chair when Bill said ‘Right wingers do it too’. I know he likes to sound fair and balanced, but come on..the OKC bombing is apples and oranges to what they were talking about. Rock on.
austinnelly on October 10, 2006 at 3:07 AM
Maybe I’m a chauvenist b*stard, but when they were showing the Chicas for Chavez (along with moptop), I couldn’t help thinking, shouldn’t you be busy getting wasted and flashing the Girls Gone Wild people in Cancun? Not necessarily because I’d want to see it, but because, they seemed like the sort.
Also, it really bugs me when O’Rielly pulls his ‘the Right does it too’ crap. I used to listen to Jerry Doyle on the radio, but then he went nuts (more?) and started doing it too, so I stopped. It’s a shame too, he had one of the more interesting shows out there.
Wolfman on October 10, 2006 at 3:24 AM
You lost some respect right there Allah.
And I must compliment the most beautiful MM, dang…
Theworldisnotenough on October 10, 2006 at 3:30 AM
OK, AP. KP, that was easy. Want to impress us? Convert the Olbermann.
GPE on October 10, 2006 at 3:40 AM
So when you gonna tell her ’bout the branding?
The Ugly American on October 10, 2006 at 3:56 AM
Is KP married? If not, I am prepared to do my duty, to sacrifice myself to bring our parties closer together, and wed KP. In this way, perhaps I can help to bring a peace between Democrats and Republicans.
theholyhermit on October 10, 2006 at 4:25 AM
Did anyone else notice they wore the same colors? Once chicks form a fashion bond, they’re pretty much blood-sisters. That awta make it easier to redeem KP from the dark side. She had on those come-take-me boots this time so I couldn’t see the legs as well…darn it.
BTW, that second student that they showed with the ragamuffin hair-do…Was that a dude?! (shuddering)

Catie, you go girl!!!!
pullingmyhairout on October 10, 2006 at 9:41 AM
Wow!! Michelle looks simply stunning in this video…OOOOoooh mama..!
As usual Michelle is right about the Libs on campus in the
US..they are basically facist who will not tolerate free
speech but their own…. these folks must be countered at
every turn with calm and cool strategy, and expose them
for the PC tyrants that they are…..
dec5 on October 10, 2006 at 10:06 AM
I respect MM as a wife and mother, but she is smokin’ here. FOX needs to hire that hair and makeup crew out of Chicago.
Valiant on October 10, 2006 at 10:17 AM
I’d almost rather she stayed a Democrat though since it’s just nice to have one like her out there, one who’s not crazy. But I guess for those same reasons, it’s inevitable that she’ll leave the Left.
And I’m with everyone else on the Right’s behavior. If Bill wants to count acts of terrorism as political unhinging, then I suppose we get to throw in all the eco-terrorists and Peta activists.
The truth is, our ideas don’t generally fit nicely into little chants and bumper stickers. So instead, we formulate full sentences and attempt meaningful debate.
Esthier on October 10, 2006 at 10:36 AM
You don’t know the half of it. One of those little, I’m sorry, bitches, was on H&C with her friend the other night, plus she was on Heartland the following night. It’s one of the most angry I’ve ever been because the debate never got away from the free speech part even though she kept interrupting throwing in the most insane accusations at the Minutemen. Aside from calling the KKK, racists, violent, etc. etc. She implied on Heartland that they are killing illegals!!! WTF is going on in these universities!?
RightWinged on October 10, 2006 at 11:40 AM
By the way, just watched the beginning of the clip again where the one chick says that the racist blah blah blah Minutemen aren’t welcome in NYC. I’m just curious if she held a similar protest when Ahmadinejad and Chavez came to town.
RightWinged on October 10, 2006 at 11:46 AM
O’Reilly asked several times why leftist college students seem so angry. Neither Michelle nor KP seemed to do well in responding.
I think the answer is fairly simple. The leftists are Platonists. They believe they are superior beings–priest kings, as Plato would say. (Think Leopold and Loeb.) They believe you should not speak, only shut up and listen. And if you disagree with them, you are obviously wrong, stupid, fascist, and/or suffering from false consciousness. In fact, since they are obviously right, they don’t have to listen to you, and they are justified in using any means necessary to ban, exclude or keep you quiet.
I remember fifteen years ago, for example, the Maine Literary Arts Commission, which to this day has no objective criteria for admission, rejecting Bill Forstchen for membership despite the fact he had five published novels at the time. (It frankly turned out better for Bill–he left the state, got his doctorate in history, became a professor in North Carolina, and co-authored two Civil War bestsellers with Newt Gingrich.) When Bill appealed the decision, the chairman of the Arts Commission, a woman with a hyphenated last name that could have been Lenin-Stalin, first took a vote to reject his appeal, and only then, after it was useless, opened up the floor for public comment and discussion.
I, on the other hand, was trained in speech and debate, so I take the alternate Aristotelian approach–that truth is most likely to emerge from free and open debate. But campus Platonists reject such a view. The only way to stop their outrageous actions, I believe, is by kicking them out of school. Otherwise you will just get more bad behavior because you have reinforced (rewarded) it. Since, however, academia has become infested with leftists (and I ought to know, I’ve been a college teacher for 42 years), that will not happen under current circumstances.
About the only hope I can see is for affirmative action to be applied to campus staff as well, so that 30% or so of professors and administrators have to have been registered Republicans for X number of years. If nothing else, this would so enrage and engage professors, that it would seriously hamper their ability to do damage elsewhere.
Dr. Charles G. Waugh on October 10, 2006 at 12:06 PM
Indeed.
Lawrence on October 10, 2006 at 12:06 PM
FWIW, is anybody else perturbed by O’Reilly’s creation of this salt & pepper twin thing he’s got going with our Michelle and KP? There’s just something patronizing & condescending about it. Michelle deserves her own time as does KP. Having to be interviewed by a bloviating simpleton like O’Reilly is punishment enough. When he made the comments about the OKC bombing, I nearly lost it. What an arsehole.
I know Michelle is overstretched with family & career but the fact is that she should be the host of her own show on Fox. She certainly has a better mastery on a wide range of topics than any of the other FOX allstars. If they wanted to, sure, pair her with KP.
Another idea: do a Babe Show with some of the women mentioned on this thread, a sort of serious and thoughtful The View. A panel of knowledgeable, level headed women who aren’t hard to look at. We know they exist, we know who some of them are. It needn’t be demeaning or classless.
Fox is certainly in need of a shakeup. While their present slate of shows lead in the ratings, none of these numbers are overwhelmingly impressive. The current programs have developed as far as they are going to. O’Reilly, Hanitty and Colmes are predictable formats; there aren’t going to be any surprises coming out of these two programs, just more of the same old, same old.
Complacency kills.
thegreatbeast on October 10, 2006 at 12:10 PM
I would like to think you are right on this one. However, I don’t believe KP has changed her party line. Just that on this one, KP and MM share a common enemy.
As we can clearly see, the only fascism going on in this video is coming from the students who are trying to force their utopian ideology on all the rest of us.
Lawrence on October 10, 2006 at 12:14 PM
Yes, I did notice. And no, it doesn’t perturb me. This is probably the only reason I watch O’Reilly.
Is it patronizing? Of course.
Is it condescending? It depends on what you mean. It doesn’t matter what mix of races, colors, or sexes Bill chose to have on the show, someone would take offense that they where not equally represented.
Bill gives them both equal time to speak. These episodes with O’Reilly can only help both of their careers.
I say good for them. And good for us, because MM and KP are so incredibly attractive to watch and listen to.

And she’s wearing boots, too!!

Okay. . .hormonal surge over. Time to get down to business.
Here’s a good (and lenghy) article at TCs Daily by Edward Feser (h/t: the valuable Arts & Letters Daily) that attempts to explain why 9/11 Truthers are so insistent they are right and that the rest of us are blind, dupes, or just plain stupid. And the reasons the article gives can also be applied to the progressives, Kos Kool-Aid Drinkers, DUmmies, 1968 Protest Holdovers, BDSers, and anyone else whose vocabulary nowadays is limited to the words “fascist,” “brownshirt,” and “racist,” sometimes all three at once in different combinations.
To sum: O’R claims the progressives’ hatred is driven by the fact they are “losing.” I think that is only part of the reason. Just as the article asserts about 9/11 Truthers, they are very elitist and arrogant in their belief that they are “enlightened” while the rest of us are obviously firmly implanted in the dark ages. Hence, by default, because they are enlightened, they are smart and right. Any they will use any means to justify just how smart and right they think they are.
Gottafang on October 10, 2006 at 1:06 PM
The Timothy McVeigh comparison was foolish, but then again, O’Reilly is a dopey Talking Head.
We are talking about free speech, discourse and debate not acts of war and destruction (McVeigh, PETA, ELF, terrorists).
The truly sad thing is that rarely do I hear that Bill Clinton and Janet Reno (a pair of commies) killed kids in Waco, Texas on April 19th 1993.
ar_basin on October 10, 2006 at 1:07 PM
I agree. I don’t think she’s a convert…yet. We just witnessed a rare and wonderful phenomenon: someone who’s a professed liberal “got it right.”
Maybe someday she’ll depart from the dark side of the force. But for me to believe, it will most likely have to be a public confession.
looking4statesmen on October 10, 2006 at 2:11 PM
She just e-mailed me to say, “I am NOT converted.”

Careful what you wish for.. You don’t want Fox to scoop up HotAir the way Google just did YouTube do ya?
RightWinged on October 10, 2006 at 3:09 PM
O’Reilly is not a dopey talking head; He is a well informed individual making reasonable observations.
I think the McVeigh comparison was inaccurate, but that does not make one a dopey talking head.
I thought we wanted open honest intellectual debate, not liberal name calling.

“She just e-mailed me to say, “I am NOT converted.”
Allahpundit on October 10, 2006 at 2:14 PM
But she watches what you say and responds to what you think. Dude, she is smitten. At least with your mind. (And all that all knowing, all-seeing omnipotence stuff). Even if the Mission isn’t totally Accomplished, I’m sure someone with your patience (you know the whole world in 7 days, which actually took 7 billion years, kind of stuff) only views this as a challenge.
And no matter what, KP is destined for the dark side. She just has too much in the way of brains and booty, …… I mean beauty, to do otherwise. Allah, keep after it. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
KP, Give us a chance. We think you are one smart lady, but you just don’t recognize genius when you see it…. yet.

AP, I’ve been thinking back to my own conversion, and I distinctly remember telling a Dem co-worker who had accused me “I may be many things, but I NOT a Republican!”
You could almost count the days before I was a full-throated conservative, calling for Clinton’s impeachment, and head.
Clearly, Kristin is turning. Next comes the estrangement from her previous comrades, who have already thrown her under the bus. Then comes the isolation, and the resulting curiosity and intellectual honesty — “wait, maybe I’ve been looking at this the wrong way.”
Ah…and then the embrace. There’s no zealot like a convert, AP, and she’ll be great fun when she’s ours. The O’Reilly carnival will finally be worth watching: instead of Left, Right, and Brainless, we’ll have Right (wow!), Right (wow!), and Left (ugh).
