Once again the “Liberals” demonstrate their intent: What they cannot gain by legitimate means, they will take by threat – or use – of force. And they have the gall to call their opponents fascists.

For the record, I don’t have much use for Conservatives, either. But I don’t see them engaging in this type of behavior. They, at least, are civilised, and respectful of differing opinions.

Rusty Bill on October 9, 2006 at 8:47 AM

I couldn’t agree more with the coddling nature of university’s being largely responsible for the growth of ridiculously obtuse behavior by the students. The lack of a foundational understanding of free speech and the rights of others stems largely from the encouragement to express your own feelings, and that professors are going to learn as much from students as students will learn from professors.

Consumerism in education is not the disease, but the symptom of what ails campuses (or to use the Limbali Lingo campi). The degeneration of college into a big fuzzy expression of feelings without respect for other’s rights is the product of the narcissistic fascination with self-expression which can be as benign as a silly t-shirt, or as malicious as what happened at Columbia.

This is what I wrote last week about the protests at Columbia:

A climate of virulent intolerance has been loudly incubating on college campuses, warmed by the blanket of speech codes that ensure that nothing will be said that could offend a soul. Basically, nothing can be said.

And today at Inside Higher Ed, we hear of more nonsense on campus:

Thursday night, after a meeting with the Board of Trustees that ended in a standoff, hundreds of students barricaded themselves inside the campus’s main academic building. The students were later joined by faculty, staff and alumni, and university officials continued meeting with them over the weekend to try to resolve the issue.
“We have been saying that the search process was flawed, so [New Gallaudet President Jane K.] Fernandes is not acceptable,” said Leah Katz-Hernandez, a sophomore and student leader, who has helped to organize the protest.

Gallaudet is the nation’s only university specifically for deaf students. Jane Fernandes is deaf, but because she only learned sign language late in life, she is less respected on campus and therefore deemed by the students, who are taking over buildings, to be persona non grata.

With apologies to Billy Joel:

Tolerance is such a ugly word,
Everyone is so unglued
Tolerance is something so absurd
But what the liberals want from you

They don’t seem to interested in giving tolerance to others, only in demanding it from the rest of us.

Good vent, Michelle.

You were right on target when you called them brats. And also with your translation :”We let them speak for a few minutes…so what’s the problem.”

That is the name of the game now in these situations.

Globalism, internationalism aka socialism, one worldism, open borderism, the dissolving of Americanism, using the Constitution to wrap lunch in-ism.

The Deans of these universities and colleges should be leaned on very heavily to prevent these types of bum-rushing situations. AND CRIMINAL CHARGES SHOULD BE PRESSED.

And in the event that the local DA does not follow up on the assault charges (this happened to Ann Coulter)then charges should be pressed against the DA for derelection of duty.

Too many campuses are favoring philosophies that clearly are designed to convert and pervert America into some outpost of Europe, of the UN, and of the Islamo-Nazis.

I have seem many people sporting Che etchings on their car windows, not to mention Che action wear. Indeed, I have seen college age girls with Che tattoes on their left boob, at the base of their backs, shoulder blade. Guys have those images on their arms, hands, wrists, and probably on their left ball.

It is a dangerous shame that American sovergnity and individualism is under a large assault from Americans. The devotion to political and legal authorities outside the realm of America, the worship of PC, and the moral equivelency extended to those who violate and threaten our way of life during this time in our history is quite telling.

The False Dervish on October 9, 2006 at 9:02 AM

always ask to see the minutes of the Faculty Senate and what companies are visiting the campus to hire – if its Soros Enterprizes or WholeFoods – move on

EricPWJohnson on October 9, 2006 at 9:04 AM

The looks on the faces of the people in the crowd said it all. They weren’t angry, or upset. They were having the time of their lives. They found an excuse to cause mayhem that was socially acceptable… at least in their eyes.

Another day, another campus, another batch of rabid brownshirts for “peace and harmony or else”.

Pablo on October 9, 2006 at 9:38 AM

Just think, in 30 years, this batch of pampered little monkeys is going to be in charge. They have no problems with squelching other points of view; to them, free speech is making the other guy shut up. We’ve got a serious problem brewing. The left can’t see it because they are living it. They’ve lost touch with common values and many of them see people of opposing point of view as being an enemy to be crushed rather than debated. Wasn’t it Belgium that banned its right wing party? How far are we from an attempt at that? Howard Dean seems to have his rhetoric already one step beyond that; he’s already dehumanizing the base of the Republican party. I like to joke that all Howard Dean needs to make him happy is a suit of combat fatigues and a concentration camp. I often fear this could be truer than I know. His type is already beyond hating your enemy. He no longer tries to relate or convince. It just amazes me the levels of hate we have for other Americans but we fall all over ourselves worrying about what the Europeans will think of how we treat a bunch of murderers in Gitmo. Strange days. Good vent Michelle.

As an update, get ahold of the two Columbia girls spot on Hannity and Colmes. Watching Hannity do to one of them what they did to the speaker at Columbia makes her REAL angry. Too funny.

Let’s see, Minutemen want the LAWS of our Nation enforced on our borders, and that makes them racist and hatful. ONLY in a brain dead liberals whacked out mind.

Once again the “Liberals” demonstrate their intent: What they cannot gain by legitimate means, they will take by threat – or use – of force.

Rusty Bill on October 9, 2006 at 8:47 AM

We can now call these “Liberals” the “Party of Peace”.

In the same context that Islam is a “Religion of Peace Submission”.

So… let’s analyize this:

Islam is a religion of peace because it strives to subjugate everyone under one world order. Liberals are a party of peace in subjugating everyone through the courts under their single ideology of secular humanism.

By every definition this is fascism.

Let’s see. Islam is a Religion of Peace in that they strive to subjugate everyone under one world order. Liberals are a Part of Peace in that they strive to subjugate everyone (through the courts) under their ideal one world secular order.

By definition, these are both fascist ideologies.

Oops. Defeated by my own technology today.

Sorry for the double post.

Great vent Michelle. However, I do hate the idea of just surrendering our elite universities to the liberals. I cannot speak for Columbia, but there are some righteous conservative movements going on at the Ivy Leagues. Really, it just takes one conservative to out debate 100 liberals. I just don’t want to see us cut and run from these places and make it too easy for the libs. Does that make sense? Once again — great vent.

wytammic on October 9, 2006 at 10:47 AM

It begins early.

I currently have 15 year old twins in the Public High school system here in the burbs of Denver CO.

The kids all know that there are opinions you don’t express if you want reasonable grades, even though you have the facts on your side.

Romeo13 on October 9, 2006 at 11:27 AM

Great Vent Michelle!

We need these illustrations of how “tolerant” the left is – as long as you buy into their program. If you any views that are not “polically correct” (aka Liberal Ideology) then this is what can be expected.

These type of “tolerant” (only if you agree with them) Liberals is the nation’s biggest weakness. In the crowds illustrated on these videos we see a new crop of ignorant, stupid Sean Penns and Cindy Sheehans. For an educational institution that is supposed to provide the best in education this is an example of good money spent poorly.

omegaram on October 9, 2006 at 12:15 PM

Reminds me of a comment during the Cold War in the fifties…”We have free speech in the Soviet Union,” said a communist party member. “In the Soviet Union, you can say anything you want….once.”

pubscout on October 9, 2006 at 12:18 PM

When they begin to chant facist and racist, one needs to hold up a mirror so they can see of whom they speak.

With such there is no diplomacy, they must be confronted and defeated. Draw the line in the sand, and face the evil down. They are much the same as the islamo-facist, only at the moment their violence is to a lesser degree.

MarkB on October 9, 2006 at 1:01 PM

Romeo is right that it begins early. It seemed to start in the mid 90’s when I would observe others I worked with teaching their Social Study classes the wonders of Socialism, Che, Castro, The Democratic Party. I taught half Sped and half Social Studies and I can tell you with the exception of 3 other teachers I was shunned by the 17 in that department. The kids aren’t stupid and know as Romeo said what they have to do to get by for a good grade. Only problem is is that transfers to college and then do they really ever think for themselves or is it lost?
Happened to watch a bit of that Heartland show Saturday night and some girl from the Columbia Socialst Club wouldn’t shut up and let that Republican kid speak at all.
As usual great Vent showing the “tolerance” of the left.

What frightens me the most…my daughter wants to attend Columbia. But if that is the intelligent debate they teach, why should I waste the money.

When it comes to the Left’s defense of free speech, one sign at the Berkeley shout-down says it all:
