CNSNews.com has pulled a prescient six-year-old story out of its archives, regarding how we got to where we are in Korea. It is one of the most relevant and informative articles you’ll read on the subject.
Earlier this afternoon I spoke by phone with CNSNews.com’s Editor in Chief David Thibault regarding that article and where the world stands a day after the North Koreans have conducted their first nuclear weapon test. Audio of that interview is below. It runs about 10 minutes.

“Right now they have two light water reactors…… but no distribution system, and they have no idea how they’re going to distribute that electricity - if indeed that was their intention at all.”
Kind of says it all. What were we thinking?

Jimmy Carter will probably want a Nobel for this, too.

Do you suppose that irradiated dog tastes better than organically harvested dog?

$210 MILLION from the Clinton Administration in 1999?
Between this and the Clinton China policy, it is a wonder we arent all dead yet!
Government policy which boils down to “pacifying a spoiled child” is suicidal! Great strategy there Maddy and Billy...
Great. Just great.
Japan has no option now but to go military and nuclear. And we should help them with all speed.
Bryan this is a compelling article and a brilliant but maddening interview.
Good work and thank you!

Howard Dean just issued a press release stating that this whole conspiracy is just a cover-up for a malfunction in the Rove/Bush Earthquake Machine.
Michael Moore is making a *documentary* about the whole episode, Barbara Streisand is penning the sound track.

It tastes about the same, and stores better, but it’s not environmentally responsible.

Seems like there is no statute of limitations when it comes to the Clinton administration. 6 years in, it’s all Clinton’s fault?
Think we need to look at this as a political not a military problem. Our play is to lean hard on China to slap these guys into line. China has an interesting long term problem–in brief, it’s a contest to see if China can get rich before it gets old–there is a demographic landmind on the horizon. The point being they put great value on stability. The last thing they want is North Koreans streaming across their border or having to deal with a nuclearly armed Japan.
The question is, do we have the balls to lean on China in the one way that will really motivate them–economically.

This whole story reminds me of another Norm MacDonald classic from his days as the anchor on SNL’s Weekend Update:
