I’ll take your reply as meaning there is no indication that she has said disease. Which means your original premise, and thus your following argument holds no water. Which leaves you with your strictly emotional reaction to my comparison of her appearance to that of a brainwashed Nazi, which you object to. Fine, you object to my observation, no problem there, we happen to disagree, which is something thinking mature adults often do.

Perhaps then you will not equate people with bulging eyes, a physical symptom of a thyroid problem (usually Graves’ disease) with Nancy Pelosi or Nazis.

Attacking someone’s physical characteristics, particularly when these are beyond their control, is one thing, but equating them with with evil as a result is unfortunate.

And it tends to backfire in politics.

All of this said, I don’t like Nancy Pelosi. I prefer to engage people based on what they do and say, though, not on their looks or medical problems.

And again, unlike you, I didn’t accuse, I made an observation.

Grown-ups shouldn’t call elected officials Nazi-like because of an immune disorder suffered by many decent people.

It was her beauty that brought me to read the first article written by Ms Malkin. Been bug-eyed over her ever since. Beauty and a brilliant mind.

I’ve seen the old pictures of the crowds looking at Hitler or listening to him, and some do have that bug eyed look. They are basically mesmerized. It’s documented that women would swoon and folks hung on his every word.

Well Christoph, in this thread you’ve managed to insult others by questioning their character, calling them stupid, ignorant, and un-Christlike. Where others are making simple observations about someone, you are judging others character.

Being “bug eyed” is generally a symptom of Graves’ disease. From the Mayo Clinic:

“Worldwide, Graves’ disease is the most common autoimmune disorder — a condition in which an immune-system mix-up causes the body to attack itself. In this case, the thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. A surplus of thyroxine can cause a range of medical problems, including nervousness, insomnia, heat intolerance, and a rapid or irregular pulse. In many cases, eye problems (Graves’ ophthalmopathy) may be associated with this condition.

“Graves’ ophthalmopathy can seriously affect vision. When inflammation develops around the eye, the fat and muscle tissues within the eye socket enlarge. This may result in forward movement of the eyeball, and the prominent “bug-eyed” look you describe. In addition, muscle structures may make the eyelids retract, also contributing to the bulging appearance of the eye.”

A very good observation. But they were in a trance state.

No one is in this state 24/7. Nancy Pelosi’s eyes just look like that as do others including others whom I know like a very pleasant man who had Graves’ disease.

I don’t know for a fact that she has this; it’s certainly possible. And if you’re saying she’s unattractive, I don’t disagree.

But this doesn’t have a damn thing to do with her judgment and morals, which are despicable in my opinion, and it impugns other people with Graves’ disease and/or “wide eyes” to imply that there is something wrong with them as a result. Focus on things within her control — not her eyes.

Do you think it’s right for people to criticize Michelle Malkin’s facial attributes as an attack on her politics? Me neither.

Her comment on Afghanistan is deplorable in a time of war. Her denial of the successes in the war (Iraq, Afghanistan, home front)is just the party line and if you don’t get out and vote it could become policy.

I don’t care if you criticize Nancy Pelosi’s looks. I agree with you there too.

But don’t say or countenance the sentiment that “wide eyed people” are Nazi like.

If you think you can judge my character from a one line comment you’re just as deluded as Pelosi.

But what a shell game. Why is the government footing nearly the entire bill for ANY medical research? Do you realize that we each pay for medical research twice? Health insurance providers charge what they do partially because of the “costs of research” aside from the actual care of doctors, nurses, etc. Then the federal gov’t funds all forms of research, which of course can only be paid from the public tax coffers.

This is exactly the sort of issue that should have been corrected, heck I’d settle for simply minimized, by a Republican controlled Washington. Insurance companies are for-profit ventures, there is no reason for Washington to fund them. Pharmaceutical companies do spend huge amounts of money on advance research of potential products, relatively few of which ever become viable. But they too are for-profit organizations that have the support of venture investors. The federal government’s has no legal authority to take your money and my money and spend it this way. All they have is the arrogance of power and the expectation that the victims taxpayers will never revolt. /rant

I think AP made a mistake. AP, you probably meant to use a picture of Pelosi, but that appears to be Jennifer Wilbanks, the runaway bride.

By the way, haven’t we had record tax revenue because of the tax cuts and hasn’t the deficit been shrinking way faster than could have been predicted? Why raise taxes? Oh, because the uninformed public still has no clue how the economy is going. Proof? Up until last month, only half of the country knew we weren’t in a recession! A lib would say “because the only people really benefiting are the super rich”. WRONG. Consistently, for years, a vast majority of hte public is happy with their own financial situations, but a vast majority also give the economy low marks. How can that be? Because the media leads people to believe the economy sucks leaving all these people to believe they are flukes or exceptions, rather than the rule. I’ve documented this month after month. Finally last month we saw a bit of a jump in people who realized we weren’t in a recession, but the personal finances vs. view of the economy questions still show that the public is being lied to.

Next step: Econ 101 so we can disabuse her of that whole “minimum wage” thing…
