A little morale booster for the troops overseas and all of us chickenhawks, left and right, hoping for victory here at home.

The best article yet written on why Dennis Hastert is the man for the job, particularly if the alternative is Nancy Peolosi:

Desperately Ignoring Foley

“The glaring differences between the current House Speaker and the person who wants his job should make it easy for voters across the country to determine which candidate better represents their core beliefs regardless of what Foley has done.”

by Noel Sheppard of AmericanThinker.com

KP is right about the attention span of flea, that’s for sure. Too bad Pelois and Co. have the brain of a flea.

SouthernGent on October 6, 2006 at 7:18 PM

This all assumes the Republicans don’t pull their heads out of their you know whats about the Foley issue. I’m still not convinced that they can’t turn this around and ultimately retain control.

She’s on her way to our side.

Baby steps.

Slublog on October 6, 2006 at 7:23 PM

The strategy of triangulation (or the Clinton Special). Pelosi is trying to usurp the security issue from the Republicans to woo the moderates and undecideds over to the Democrats. I for one do not think the voters are as stupid as she thinks we are, and the transparency of this will be apparent to all.

Let’s see, in past wars we’ve had Tokyo Rose and Hanoi Jane attempting to demoralize the effort.

Can we call her Kandahar Nancy?

CP on October 6, 2006 at 7:56 PM

Nancy Peloisi. Sounds familiar. Is she the same Nancy Pelosi who marches in parades with members of NAMBLA?

Not only does a moment like this unintentionally reveal the mindset of what Representative Pelosi and her fellow Democrats may really think but can’t — yet — support. (This is, after all, the city where now-Mayor Newsom took it upon himself to break new cultural ground by authorizing the performance of same-sex marriages — in violation of California law.) It also raises the question of whether the acceptance of Harry Hay and his views is a snapshot of a larger, unspoken agenda that San Francisco Democrats want the national Democratic Party to eventually pursue when they return to a Congressional majority — and the White House. After all, if Harry Hay’s views were not only celebrated in a parade in San Francisco but were not even thought out-of-the-mainstream enough to draw the slightest protest from Ms. Pelosi, why should there be protests over a move to eventually change the laws about men having sex with boys in Pennsylvania or Missouri or Virginia?

There’s two words for that kind of agenda.

“Abhorrent behavior.”

Hey AP, what does KP mean when she says:

I assume day 101 would be the day the investigations against Republicans start.

Is she just pointing to the obvious out of control investigations we’re in for, but not endorsing it, and possibly complaining about it. Or is she saying this in a “I can’t wait” sor of salivating Kos kid type of way?

RightWinged on October 6, 2006 at 8:19 PM

What makes you think the Dems will wait till day 101?

I don’t, that was a quote from KP’s site. I’m terrified at what Democratic House leadership will do. I see it as a “beginning of the end” scenario. Genuinely scared at what it will mean for the long term. I think the relentless and pointless investigations will be much more than anyone can imagine.

Quite frankly it looked like a defeat even before Foley. Smart voters (that may be an oxymoron) should however, make a checklist to see what’s in store for them under Democratic control:
1 Higher taxes
2 Even more pandering to illegal aliens
3 Miranda rights for terrorists
4 Retreat and defeat in the War on Terrorist Islamists
5 An endless parade of “committees”, “subcommittees”, “special counsels”, “commissions”, “studies”, “investigative reports”,”hearings” etc. as to the feasibility of impeachment proceedings.

Of course, for at least two years, the President can veto congressional proposals and it takes a two-thirds Senate vote to actually kick a President out.

What’s that mushroom cloud doing over San Francisco? It’s just the terrorists’ clumsy way way of saying “thank you Democratic Party.

MaiDee on October 6, 2006 at 9:48 PM

Pelosi is playing a political shell game where nobody ever wins. Judging by her statements made only yesterday at a public gathering, she must think her own constituents are complete idiots.

Her mind-boggling remarks reminded me of a TV program back in the 70s called “Love American Style”, one episode in particular. The plot centered on the Mrs. coming home and finding her hubby in bed, having sex with another woman. I’ve never forgotten one scene that left me laughing hysterically. The husband was played by Joey Bishop. I can’t recall who the female actresses were.

The wife comes home, bursts into the bedroom, and there in broad daylight is the hubby and his playmate look-alike going at it like a couple of rabbits. The wife says, “Why are you having sex with another woman?” Bishop, with eyebrows raised, counters with a line for the ages, and says “What woman”, with his gal-pal laying right there next to him in bed. The scene went on for only a few minutes longer, with Bishop continuing to deny that he was having sex with another woman, while the physical evidence proved otherwise. Maybe you had to be there, but it was hilarious to watch.

In Pelosi’s speech yesterday, she was obviously attempting to stoke up the base for the Democrat takeover this fall. She made a comment that immediately reminded me of that episode from over thirty years ago. Her remark went something like this, and I’m paraphrasing, “Don’t any of you believe for a second that our economy is going well, that’s only what Republicans would like you to believe.

Job growth is up, unemployment is down, inflation is stable, interests rates are low, the Dow has reached an all time high, home purchases are booming, gas prices are falling …… but according to delusional Nancy, the economy has tanked.

What woman?

Frightening to think someone who sees our current booming economy as dismal and failing, might become our next Speaker of the House in a few short months. We can’t let that happen.

fogw on October 6, 2006 at 10:01 PM

Nancy Pelosi says:

President Bush’s failure to finish the job against terrorism in Afghanistan before launching his ill-advised invasion of Iraq has made the lives of the Afghan people more difficult and the American people less safe. The war against terrorism is in Afghanistan, and unless the President makes winning that war an immediate priority, the risks to the security of the United States will continue to grow.”

Does the woman really think that the War on Terror equals Afghanistan and only Afghanistan? That’s what it sure sounds like in her statement.

That someone so clueless in this post-9/11 world could be leading the House is truly scary. On the positive: At least it will motivate Republicans to vote in 2008.

foggy

I think she’s pissed because the economy and everything else is going so well. They wanted that to happen just after they supposedly take power. That way they can crow and try to take responsibility for the near miraculous recovery this amazing Country has created for itself, even after all of the earth shattering events we’ve gone through in the past 6 years.

So many more really important things going on right now, and all the far left dems are concerned with is pathetically grasping for power. Power that they would not use wisely, even if they were actually to get it.

It’s like some grotesque version of yet another insipid reality show where, by hook or crook, the ’survivor’ wins the prize.

It will be sweet relish time if they don’t take enough seats, and I’d hate to be anywhere within 100 miles of her for the first 100 hours if they don’t. She’s got enough botox in her to blind a person if she spat in someones eyes.

I’m calling you on it. That’s beyond the pale. You minimize the horrors of the Nazis with such a hateful screed.

Nazis varied in their looks, from very good looking (famously, Ilsa Koch, the “Bitch of Buchenwald” as reported here by Allah earlier today) to otherwise.

If I had a buck for everytime a Democrat called Bush a Nazi, I’d be a millionaire. From even BEFORE the 2000 election, Democrats have been labeling Bush as a Nazi, his father as a Nazi, and grandfather as Nazi. And then there are such endearming terms as “goostepper,” and “fascist,” that is applied by Democrats against most Republicans (not just Bush) on a near daily basis.

And then there are Bush’s daughters, whom “the good folks” at Democratic Underground call DRUNKS, SLUTS and WHORES, in the same casual way they slander Michelle Malkin.

The plain fact is that the Democrats ACT like Brownshirted thugs, SPEAK like brownshirted thugs, and HATE just like brownshirted thugs.

Want an example? Just this week, a mob of BROWNSHIRT libby-dems CHARGED the state at Columbia and physically prevented the founder of the Minutemen from speaking. And REPUBLICAN speakers have even been physically assaulted when attempting to speak on campuses.

And it is a plain simple fact that in 2004, DEMOCRATS fired guns into Republican campaign offices, broke into Republican offices and STOLE computers, and vandalized Republican-leased vehicles.

Read Ann Coulter’s Slander and Michelle’s Unhinged to read about the Democratic Party’s Brownshirted ways.

Message to Democrats: Get used to getting back what your kind tosses out. The only Nazis in America are the ones who call themselves DEMOCRATS.

I think AP made a mistake. AP, you probably meant to use a picture of Pelosi, but that appears to be Jennifer Wilbanks, the runaway bride.

By the way, haven’t we had record tax revenue because of the tax cuts and hasn’t the deficit been shrinking way faster than could have been predicted? Why raise taxes? Oh, because the uninformed public still has no clue how the economy is going. Proof? Up until last month, only half of the country knew we weren’t in a recession! A lib would say “because the only people really benefiting are the super rich”. WRONG. Consistently, for years, a vast majority of hte public is happy with their own financial situations, but a vast majority also give the economy low marks. How can that be? Because the media leads people to believe the economy sucks leaving all these people to believe they are flukes or exceptions, rather than the rule. I’ve documented this month after month. Finally last month we saw a bit of a jump in people who realized we weren’t in a recession, but the personal finances vs. view of the economy questions still show that the public is being lied to.

Rumsfeld has an op-ed in the Post talking about the 5th year re Afghanistan. Imagine my surprise to read it’s pretty peachy. The most interesting claim–the Afghan economy has experienced great growth in the last 5 years. Interesting in that most of this growth is due to the poppy biz coming back with a vengance. But hey, why be a party pooper?

Dr. Charles G. Waugh on October 7, 2006 at 12:32 PM

Just for the record, regardless if KP reads here, the federal government has spent substantial money funding stem cell research. The terms have to be kept accurate. It is embryonic stem cell research which the government is currently not providing grants for. In a token hat tip to Reagan’s hardline policy of no money that supports abortion, President Bush has taken a stance that support of embryonic stem cell research supports abortion. And of course it does.

But what a shell game. Why is the government footing nearly the entire bill for ANY medical research? Do you realize that we each pay for medical research twice? Health insurance providers charge what they do partially because of the “costs of research” aside from the actual care of doctors, nurses, etc. Then the federal gov’t funds all forms of research, which of course can only be paid from the public tax coffers.

This is exactly the sort of issue that should have been corrected, heck I’d settle for simply minimized, by a Republican controlled Washington. Insurance companies are for-profit ventures, there is no reason for Washington to fund them. Pharmaceutical companies do spend huge amounts of money on advance research of potential products, relatively few of which ever become viable. But they too are for-profit organizations that have the support of venture investors. The federal government’s has no legal authority to take your money and my money and spend it this way. All they have is the arrogance of power and the expectation that the victims taxpayers will never revolt. /rant

Christoph on October 7, 2006 at 5:15 PM

She isn’t wide eyed, she’s bug eyed. Her eyes are are popping out of her skull and it isn’t natural. Someone told her to do that to not show her aging lines or she thinks it makes her look brighter, or something. It’s a bit spooky.

I’ve seen the old pictures of the crowds looking at Hitler or listening to him, and some do have that bug eyed look. They are basically mesmerized. It’s documented that women would swoon and folks hung on his every word.

Her comment on Afghanistan is deplorable in a time of war. Her denial of the successes in the war (Iraq, Afghanistan, home front)is just the party line and if you don’t get out and vote it could become policy.

Hening on October 7, 2006 at 6:21 PM

“She isn’t wide eyed, she’s bug eyed. Her eyes are are popping out of her skull and it isn’t natural.

— Hening

Hening, once again I must disagree with your ignorance.

Being “bug eyed” is generally a symptom of Graves’ disease. From the Mayo Clinic:

“Worldwide, Graves’ disease is the most common autoimmune disorder — a condition in which an immune-system mix-up causes the body to attack itself. In this case, the thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. A surplus of thyroxine can cause a range of medical problems, including nervousness, insomnia, heat intolerance, and a rapid or irregular pulse. In many cases, eye problems (Graves’ ophthalmopathy) may be associated with this condition.

“Graves’ ophthalmopathy can seriously affect vision. When inflammation develops around the eye, the fat and muscle tissues within the eye socket enlarge. This may result in forward movement of the eyeball, and the prominent “bug-eyed” look you describe. In addition, muscle structures may make the eyelids retract, also contributing to the bulging appearance of the eye.”

You go on to say:

“I’ve seen the old pictures of the crowds looking at Hitler or listening to him, and some do have that bug eyed look. They are basically mesmerized.

— Hening”

A very good observation. But they were in a trance state.

No one is in this state 24/7. Nancy Pelosi’s eyes just look like that as do others including others whom I know like a very pleasant man who had Graves’ disease.

I don’t know for a fact that she has this; it’s certainly possible. And if you’re saying she’s unattractive, I don’t disagree.

But this doesn’t have a damn thing to do with her judgment and morals, which are despicable in my opinion, and it impugns other people with Graves’ disease and/or “wide eyes” to imply that there is something wrong with them as a result. Focus on things within her control — not her eyes.

This is not commendable behaviour. It isn’t very Christlike either.

Do you think it’s right for people to criticize Michelle Malkin’s facial attributes as an attack on her politics? Me neither.

Christoph on October 7, 2006 at 7:13 PM

Christoph on October 7, 2006 at 7:13 PM

Well Christoph, in this thread you’ve managed to insult others by questioning their character, calling them stupid, ignorant, and un-Christlike. Where others are making simple observations about someone, you are judging others character.

In light of Matt 7:1-5, I’d say you are the one who ‘isn’t very Christlike.’

infidel4life on October 7, 2006 at 8:03 PM

“Do you think it’s right for people to criticize Michelle Malkin’s facial attributes as an attack on her politics? Me neither.”

It was her beauty that brought me to read the first article written by Ms Malkin. Been bug-eyed over her ever since. Beauty and a brilliant mind.

Hening on October 7, 2006 at 8:31 PM

You equated her to a Nazi because of what is most likely Graves’ disease.

That is reprehensible.

I was mostly speaking to Hening who placed his observations in a logical format and was speaking, I believe, from understandable ignorance.

Jesus wouldn’t accuse someone of falling a Satanic ideology because their eyes are large.

And again, unlike you, I didn’t accuse, I made an observation.

infidel4life on October 7, 2006 at 9:43 PM

It’s moot whether she has Graves disease (which is most likely based on her physical symptoms that you yourself commented on) or protudring eyes from some other cause… it’s not indicative of Nazism.

Christoph on October 7, 2006 at 10:00 PM

iInfidel4life,

Here is some good commentary and background on it if you would like to gain a deeper understanding.

Perhaps then you will not equate people with bulging eyes, a physical symptom of a thyroid problem (usually Graves’ disease) with Nancy Pelosi or Nazis.

Attacking someone’s physical characteristics, particularly when these are beyond their control, is one thing, but equating them with with evil as a result is unfortunate.

And it tends to backfire in politics.

All of this said, I don’t like Nancy Pelosi. I prefer to engage people based on what they do and say, though, not on their looks or medical problems.

Alright, have fun, the thread is yours; learn a bit if you choose to. I’ll follow SilverStar’s advice at this point.

Christoph on October 7, 2006 at 10:00 PM

I’ll take your reply as meaning there is no indication that she has said disease. Which means your original premise, and thus your following argument holds no water. Which leaves you with your strictly emotional reaction to my comparison of her appearance to that of a brainwashed Nazi, which you object to. Fine, you object to my observation, no problem there, we happen to disagree, which is something thinking mature adults often do.

But over and above simple disagreement you have chosen to judge others here as stupid, ignorant, hateful, insane, of questionable character, and being un-Christlike. Again I refer you to Matthew chapter 7 and suggest you look in the mirror, my friend.

infidel4life on October 7, 2006 at 10:15 PM

Who cares whether Pelosi has a disease or not or whether her eyes bug out or not (which they do!) She is a disease to the American Public. Her socialist views are anti-American. Look at what she is trying to do – impose a socialist society in this country. She is a menace. We don’t need more socialists in this country.
