That’s just embarrassing, and I’m not even a Dodgers fan.

ArkCon on October 4, 2006 at 6:37 PM

it’a 5 game series

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 6:37 PM

i still say the Dodgers win the divison series

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 6:38 PM

YOU’RE GETTING BANNED, CHUMP.

Allahpundit on October 4, 2006 at 6:40 PM

Remember all those seasons when the Cowboys and Niners would meet in the NFC Championship game and then the winner would go on to utterly stomp out whoever represented the AFC in the Super Bowl?

That’s what the ALCS is going to be like this year.

Btw, for worst baseball running of all time, I nominate Ruben Rivera. Giants vs Diamondbacks, 5/27/03. Just hilarious to watch.

World B. Free on October 4, 2006 at 6:45 PM

Don’t forget Lonnie Smith of the Braves in the seventh game of the 1991 Series. Only shot the Braves had all night at a run against Jack Morris, a run that would have won the Series with John Smoltz pitching a shutout, and Smith runs through a stop sign. Oh, and Babe Ruth being caught stealing for the final out of the 1926 Series.

Athanasius on October 4, 2006 at 7:00 PM

Haha, Allah is a Mets fan? Awesome.

Stankleberry on October 4, 2006 at 7:07 PM

Is this that ’stickball’ game I’ve heard so much about?

Kevin M on October 4, 2006 at 7:07 PM

Ugh, the Dodgers and their lame “Soak up the Sun” Sheryl Crow intro song. It’s probably why they are base-running challenged. Whenever I hear that stupid song come on I know Savage is going to be cancelled in lieu of a Dodger game.
It’s enough to make me root Mets.

NTWR on October 4, 2006 at 7:10 PM

2nd runner was trying to be a hero, try something sly and slide in under the radar. He probably rounded third thinking, “this is so crazy it just might work!” But alas, he was wrong. I love baseball, played for years. Thanks for showing that.

realVerse on October 4, 2006 at 7:19 PM

Buckner who?

zerodamage on October 4, 2006 at 7:20 PM

like i said it’s a 5 game series. if some of you remember that the Mets in 1988 were also favored to go to the World series that year & guess what happened. the Yankees were up 2 games to none on the Dodgers in 1981, guess who won the World Series, so to put it bluntly – it ain’t over till it’s over & the Mets will not sweep the Dodgers just because they won the first game.

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 7:20 PM

& just for the record -

N.Y.Mets – 2 World Series Championships
4 Pennnants
7 playoff apperances (including this year)

L.A.Dodgers – 5 World Series championships
9 Pennants
15 playoff apperances (including this year)

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 7:29 PM

correction – Dodgers : 5 world series championships
9 pennants
15 playoff appearances (including this year)

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 7:31 PM

Don’t forget Lonnie Smith of the Braves in the seventh game of the 1991 Series.

I remember all too well being a season ticket holder to the Braves.
Well I simply dont know WHO to pull for this year. I am a BIG FAN of Maddux so I guess the Dodgers..dont ban me AP! :)
But this was LAME.

labwrs on October 4, 2006 at 7:35 PM

yes, i know the Yankees won 26 titles, only because back then, there were no really good teams & the fact there weren’t as many teams back then as there is now & also no latino & african-american players were playing at that time either.

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 7:36 PM

I have a vague recollection of something similar happening in a game between the White Sox and Tigers many years ago. I think Carlton Fisk was the catcher and Kirk Gibson was one of the runners. Fisk got them both at the plate, bang bang, one after another.

Go Cards and Tigers, my adopted teams since the Mariners took the pipe again.

Mallard T. Drake on October 4, 2006 at 7:40 PM

if he had scored, the 3rd base coach would be being hailed as a genius…

wordwarp on October 4, 2006 at 7:43 PM

Save all your pity for me, a die-hard (or die a slow death) fan of the Phillies. The GM here in Philly has developed a sure fire way to win lose every year. In the off-season he trades away any player who shows potential.

Curt Schilling, Billy Wagner, Scott Rolen to name a few.

The GM broke the mold this year and traded a valuable player mid-season …. Bobby Abreu, who is currently clicking for the Yanks.

The days are surely numbered for Ryan Howard.

Janakle on October 4, 2006 at 7:57 PM

Just for the record…ROCKIES : ONE Wild Card Appearance!YEAH

Go Broncos

realverse, I too love the game. Played for years and am playing again now (well just finished) dugout.org for overX players. Its real baseball. NABA & PLAYOFFS- WCS

shooter on October 4, 2006 at 8:06 PM

Ryan Howard’s 58 home runs has to be the quietest 58 ever hit. I know he made a splash (pardon the pun) at the All Star Game HR Derby, but there wasn’t a lot of talk about him closing in on 60 homers. Maybe because I live in an American League city (Seattle) and we don’t hear a lot about the National League. Or maybe the steroid boys ruined the special aura of hitting 60 dingers.

Mallard T. Drake on October 4, 2006 at 8:07 PM

I’m for whatever team manages to stomp the s*** out of the embarrassingly stacked, overpaid New York teams. If it happens to be the A’s, Twins, or Padres, so much the better.

Mark V. on October 4, 2006 at 8:09 PM

Let’s go Mets!

thebrokenchair on October 4, 2006 at 8:20 PM

Dodgers : 5 world series championships
9 pennants
15 playoff appearances

Which game will Koufax start?

Stephen M on October 4, 2006 at 8:21 PM

Basa ball has bin berry berry good to me.

Kini on October 4, 2006 at 8:23 PM

Let’s expand the record a tad, M’kay?

Dodgers – Established 1884

Mets – Established 1962

Cheers,

DuffBeer on October 4, 2006 at 8:23 PM

Go A’s …..

The Ugly American on October 4, 2006 at 8:36 PM

I looked for this video all over tonight. I guess you have to cut it yourself, right? Nice work.

Let’s go, Mets!

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on October 4, 2006 at 8:42 PM

Et tu, Allah??? A Met fan???

yes, i know the Yankees won 26 titles, only because back then, there were no really good teams & the fact there weren’t as many teams back then as there is now & also no latino & african-american players were playing at that time either.

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 7:36 PM

That wasn’t the case for 6 of those 26 titles. More than that, if you count Elston Howard and Lefty Gomez, among others.

As far as the money, it goes with the marketplace. Spend that revenue sharing money wisely, and know your role, scrubbies.

All your best prospect are belong to us. All Hail the Empire!

Kid from Brooklyn on October 4, 2006 at 9:30 PM

yes, it was a bonehead play by the Dodgers, but again it is a 5 game series & in the playoffs anything can happen. even if the Dodgers lose,at least they made it to the playoffs, thanks to the Wild Card.

Koufax is playing ? cool. personally i would like to see Orel Hershiser pitch instead

yeah, we know that Steinbrenner “tries” to “buy” a World Championship every year & yet they haven’t won since 2001 when the lost to a team (Arizona Diamondbacks) that was only in the league for three years at the the time & don’t use 9/11 as an excuse, because it affected everyone.

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 10:31 PM

you know what, i wouldn’t mind see the Yankees in the World Series again as long as they lose again.

Starblazer on October 4, 2006 at 10:33 PM

First thing Drew did after being tagged out was look back at his 3rd base coach, who was probably shaking his head while looking at the ground in disgust.

BTW, it’s football season. Liberals love baseball. Just sayin’.

Bellicose Muse on October 4, 2006 at 11:40 PM

I thought it was genius. It nearly worked! If they had been closer together, and one had slid right while the other slid left, one of them would have made it.

Mark Jaquith on October 5, 2006 at 3:17 AM

RealVerse? Bethany is that you? I didn’t know you were a former baseball player.

Sigh…….I’m more in love than ever.

BacaDog on October 5, 2006 at 7:46 AM

This is similar to a play in the 1930s where Lou Gehrig and another player was tagged out at the plate; the only difference is that in the Gehrig play, the baserunners were nearly neck and neck coming around third, so the catcher simply flopped the tag across both runners with one swipe.

Carvin Guitar Man on October 5, 2006 at 7:50 AM

Aw, c’mon. Not the worst ever — not even the Dodgers’ worst base running ever. Eighty years ago, August 15, 1926, at Ebbets Field against the Boston Braves, Dazzy Vance, Chick Fewster and Babe Herman were all on third base at the same time.

Bonehead base running for the Dodgers every 80 or so years is to be expected. In the interim, you get Robinson, Snider, Koufax, Drysdale et als.

SEgerton on October 5, 2006 at 8:33 AM

Screw the Yankees; go Mets. Bounce ‘em both, AP.

Jaibones on October 5, 2006 at 9:36 AM

Kinda fitting that both Green and LoDuca are ex-Dodgers.

speed647 on October 5, 2006 at 9:39 AM

Allah! Great post! I love baseball – and even more, I love baseball bloopers. :D

I’m looking forward to showing my 12 year old son this video clip – as a good example of “what not to do.” He plays baseball year-round and the competition is fierce. I think it’s always good to put things in perspective every once in awhile. It’s healthy for him to see that the big dogs are boneheads once in awhile, too. :D

Man, that sure stated my morning out right.

Redhead Infidel on October 5, 2006 at 9:46 AM

I forwarded this link to my son’s two baseball teams. Everyone could use a dose of baseball humor today – just to temporarily forget about aging pervs, and all that. Ya know?

Redhead Infidel on October 5, 2006 at 9:54 AM

The Mets??? I spit on the Mets. Still haven’t recovered from the Bill Buckner incident. Never will.

honora on October 5, 2006 at 11:01 AM

I feel your pain. The best thing about the Mets is that they’re not the Yankees.

Pablo on October 5, 2006 at 11:19 AM

But of course!!! I have been reduced to watching part of these games only to cheer against the Mets and Yankees. I’m such a loser……
