Did the Dems know about Foley?

Yes, you read that right: the Democrats. It’s of course clear that Foley, a Republican representative from Florida, resigned for good cause. We don’t defend him or his inexcusable behavior — good riddance.
But it didn’t take long at all after Foley’s resignation for the Democrats to call for an investigation of the entire Republican leadership in the House, charging that GOP stalwarts knew early on that Foley, as they like to say in the rehab business, had a “problem.”
### We have a lot more questions about this whole affair. The timing of the revelations, as we noted, couldn’t be more propitious for the Democrats. Turns out both the Democrats and several newspapers seem to have known about Foley’s problem as far back as November, according to research by several enterprising blogs.
Democrats accuse Republicans of knowing about Foley’s conversations and not doing anything about it. Several news organizations, including local Florida newspapers, knew about Foley’s dirty messages but did nothing about it. Why? Because it wasn’t deemed newsworthy at the time. Yet, for some reason it is newsworthy 6 weeks before an important election.
IBD asks the questions that the MSM should be getting answered:
Why didn’t they come forward then? Who dredged up these e-mails — and why did they hold them until now? This reeks of political trickery.
Indeed.

Hastert is on Rush right now. should be an interesting conversation. Rush is talking about how the dems are accusing the house leadership of covering this up.

Hey, Foley can prey on all the kids he wants until it’s election time… Then the Dems suddenly turn in to Pedophile Police over evidence they’ve been sitting on. All in a days work.
RightWinged on October 3, 2006 at 1:36 PM
This is one that we really SHOULD question the timing.
pullingmyhairout on October 3, 2006 at 1:37 PM
Uhhh. Did a wild bear………????
(Obviously, yes).
LegendHasIt on October 3, 2006 at 1:37 PM
So who is Leon Rouse?
Iblis on October 3, 2006 at 1:48 PM
I find lately all politicians leave a putrid taste in my mouth. Neither party can be trusted. The Republicans, more & more, don’t support the party’s core tenets (limited government, individual responsibility, lower government spending, national security). The demoncrats’ litany of sins is much longer and has been going on for a lot longer.
Probably why I describe myself simply as a conservative rather than an affiliate of either party.

Some of us have been asking those questions since the moment Foley was forced out, but that just seems to get us tarred as making excuses for what he did. Be prepared.
Smart move.

As an independent with definite Dem leanings, I am sorry to say I don’t know that the Dems have the smarts to carry this off. And that’t the God’s honest truth.

O, and now ABC has some “new” IM’s. Internet sex while waiting for house vote.
Let me guess, Thursday, MSNBC will have some “new” e-mail about meeting up with a page.
WOW, MSM is going to ride this one all through Oct. Full court press is on people!! Watch while these MSM people pick your next House and Senate for you and in the works….ready for it…BUSH impeachment ‘07!
Brian on October 3, 2006 at 2:08 PM
You? Dem leanings? Who’d a thunk it?
They do. They have. For a long time. They’ve done this thing before (see ‘Plamegate’ among the many examples).
Welcome to the real world.
thirteen28 on October 3, 2006 at 2:08 PM
Agreed, good riddance to the predator.
I only wish those who knew about previously, whether they be R or D’s, media or anyone else, could be prosecuted for some crime. Knowing about it and letting it continue has to be prosecutable somehow.
Anyone in the know care to enlighten me?

How convenient!
How convenient that Brian Ross, who is actively trying to topple the Bush Administration by publishing leaks, is the ONLY source of these IMs!
How do we know that this isn’t another “rathergate?”
georgej on October 3, 2006 at 2:18 PM
Yep, Just read the new ones from ABC.
I want to know the provenance of the IMs. Until an FBI cyber forensics specialist can authenticate them, I’raTHer think that they may be “fake but accurate”.
No, I’m not defending Foley or anyone else who may have known for certain. But this is being manipulated and controlled by someone(s) who wants the Dems to take over Congress.
Once again, possible criminal behavior is not being merely alleged by the media; People are being tried and sentenced by the media, NOT the proper legal authorities.

Mac Ranger has a good post up about how his sources tell the Dems are getting nervous about this pointing back to them.
bopbottle on October 3, 2006 at 2:51 PM
Why is it the Dems expect everyone within groveling distance of Foley to resign, yet when one of their own acts “inappropriately” there’s no call for resignation or condemnation, only sympathy for a poor soul who lost his way, an innocent who was abused as a child or a victim of a misunderstanding society.
Why, the Dems will even put their sinner up on a pedestal saying “Hasn’t he mastered the art of lying” …. he’s the best politician EVER!
Foley has admitted his guilt. He resigned. Time to move on and refocus on the survival of our nation.
Get over it Dems. Barney Frank is getting nervous.

Well said, foggy!

I have a question about the timing and, in particular, ABC’s Brian Ross.
A lot of this stuff seems to be coming out Ross’ site on ABC; he has admitted that he knew about this at least as far back as August but sat on it due to pressing reporting duties about the Katrina (one year ago)disaster and the 9/11 (5 years ago) anniversary.
Quare: Does anyone wonder if there might be a link between ABC’s timing in exposing this right now, and the “Path to 9/11″ controversy? In other words, could this be ABC’s effort to get back into the Democrat’s good books by giving them the 2006 mid-term elections?
It’s just a thought.
Blaise on October 3, 2006 at 4:33 PM
Where has Ross admitted that they knew about IM’s back in August????
That is AWFUL if true! He knew Foley was preying on young boys and he sat on the story??????
Isn’t that… wrong?
Rightwingsparkle on October 3, 2006 at 4:51 PM
Wrong, yes. It might also make him complicit in a criminal action.
thirteen28 on October 3, 2006 at 5:51 PM
Recording IM’s? I’ve heard of that being done, I know that it usually takes special software to accomplish that, but who does that, and for what purpose if not blackmail?
No matter how I look at this, it stinks!
DannoJyd on October 3, 2006 at 8:11 PM
It doesn’t take any special friggin’ software. You don’t know squat.
It’s done with the Instant Messenger’s own software… they almost all, including AIM, keep a log unless you turn this off.
Gee. Read Michelle’s post on the topic.
