Cowboys 45
Titans 14
Niiiiiice.
I didn’t blog the TO situation the other day because I didn’t want to get out ahead of a story that didn’t add up. Terrell Owens is simply too in love with himself to try suicide, but here was apparently the Dallas PD saying he’d done just that. It made no sense.
I could see TO trying to kill someone else in a fit of narcissism or, well, any of several reasons having to do with excessive self-esteem. But kill himself? Nah. He has 25 million and one reasons to live, the “one” being TO’s undying love for TO.
He’s a talented WR, one of the best ever. But when his career is over, he won’t be missed. His stats make a case for putting him in Canton, but his antics make a case for keeping him out. As things stand now, the antics make the stronger case.
—
I thought I had a flash of brilliance on a mid-sized foreign policy issue late last night, so I spent hours chasing leads, poring over maps and tables and trying to make sense of what I thought might be a big story that would break in a few months to a year. If I had been right, you’d have been impressed.
But the leads didn’t add up. My preconception didn’t fit the facts as best as I could figure them out. So I didn’t post. I’m still looking into it, but I’m not convinced I was right anymore. I did waste a lot of time and lose a lot of sleep though, and I paid for that this morning.

When someone accuses you of something and you know the accusation is false, the best thing you can do is tell them to prove it. If they make a good faith effort to prove their case, you at least know that their criticism is coming from an honest origin–a misunderstanding, a misreading, even a mistake or mistakes on your part. There’s something to discuss if they make a reasonable case, and you may be able to win them over or at least get to some resolution of the issue even if you can’t convince them that you’re innocent. And it may turn out that you’re not as innocent as you thought.
But. When they not only fail to even try to prove their case, but instead make excuses and call you silly names and demand apologies from you for defending yourself, it’s time to write that person off. They’re not arguing in good faith and there’s nothing you can do to get them to. Any further engagement is just stepping into a quagmire. Maybe they’ll cool off one day, and maybe not. But whatever they do, it’s pretty much up to them. You can pray for them if you’re inclined and hope for the best, or you can forget about it and move on, but engaging them further is a mistake.

In a saner world, my friend Michelle would be seen as an inspiration regardless what one’s politics happen to be. She’s a wife and a mom and an entrepreneur, author of three books and one of the most popular columnists and bloggers around. I’ve seen her write a Vent script in about 15 minutes stem to stern, and I’ve seen her work through about three blog posts, a column and questions from Fox producers simultaneously. I’ve seen her put in close to a 24 hour workday and keep smiling throughout. I’ve also seen her help her kids catch a fish and I’ve seen her cook dinner for her family and take stage direction from me like I’m Spielberg. Not all at the same time, of course. If the world were sane more of her critics would recognize that, whatever they think of her politics, she doesn’t deserve a tenth of the nonsense hurled her way.
But we all know how sane the world is these days. Constant snark and sarcasm and the need to score political points and always get the upper hand by any means necessary, all combined with a lack of consequences for dishonesty or disreputable behavior, have turned the world, or at least the blog world, into something pretty close to insane. And very tiresome. And sometimes, embarassing to be a part of.
I know Michelle as my friend, a good person who is quick to laugh (or snort if it’s really funny–so when she writes “snort” after a one-liner on her blog, you know she’s getting a good laugh) and not a prude or stick in the mud at all. She’s pretty much the opposite of her critics’ cartoon view of her, except the part about being a conservative. She’s guilty of that and proud of it too. If she were a shamless self-promoter as some of her critics insist, her picture would be on the front of her books, not inside the jacket or on the back. I realize that this will come as a shock to many who read this, but she’s surprisingly normal, for someone from Jersey who likes the detestable Philadelphia Eagles and the disgusting Pittsburgh Steelers. When she cares about football at all, which isn’t often enough if you ask me.
What can you do about that, though? Nobody’s perfect.
—
But that’s enough serious talk. Did I mention that the Cowboys trounced the Titans today? Next up: The Eagles. In Philly. It’s gonna be ugly.
If any of you comment that the Eagles are going to win, it’s a good way to get yourself banned. On this there can be no debate.

Good post, except for that football score at the beginning. Hey at least Vince Young scored on the Cowboys. OK, I know that was weak, but I got nuthin else, it was painful to watch.
realVerse on October 2, 2006 at 12:05 AM
I guess Albert Haynesworth thought he would do some “trouncing” of his own on Andre Gurode’s face. Just rude. I think the guy should sit out the rest of the season.
As for the rest of your post Bryan — sweet. You are blessed to be friends with Michelle and know her and her family on the personal level that you do. She does seem down to earth to me, and someone I would be friends with. But — I’m too far west to socialize with you guys. Do keep up the good work and have a great week.
wytammic on October 2, 2006 at 12:09 AM
Cowboys suck.
skins.
Ian on October 2, 2006 at 12:16 AM
Uh oh, Ian’s response almost makes me want to stay up to see Bryan’s response. But us Titans fans have had a long day. Im out.
realVerse on October 2, 2006 at 12:18 AM
I can’t ban you, Ian. That’s the only thing saving you tonight, punk.
I can mention the score from a couple weeks ago, though. I’m sure it still stings.
Bryan on October 2, 2006 at 12:18 AM
Michelle is “a model of class and distinction” as the saying goes, which pretty much makes her a liberals worst nightmare. Since the have no arguments worthy of real debate, they are “jamming” her, making the loudest possible noise at the slightest thing. However, their craven nature is revealed in their visciousness, their savagery, their sheer unadulterated hatred of all that is good, or represents morality. But we shall pray her strength like a loyal band of brothers fully enabled with every good gift from God.
Soothsayer on October 2, 2006 at 12:28 AM
I’m a fan of both Parcells and Gibbs. The skins victory in OT was sweet today. Mark Brunell (sp?) is a stand up guy too.
I can’t help but wonder what Michelle’s reaction would be tomorrow morning after getting the little one off to school and sitting down to her computer and finding out that Bryan has banned her newest employee :) Better be careful Ian — you need to pay that tuition :)
wytammic on October 2, 2006 at 12:42 AM
Not a huge football fan (but may have to become one sense the Red Sox… well, you know), but as someone who just moved back after 5 years in Nashville I have to say that it’s been more than a long day for the Titans, it would seem it’s been a tough 3 or 4 years, no?
RightWinged on October 2, 2006 at 12:45 AM
I have always liked where Michelle is politicly and always enjoyed reading her columns and watching her on Fox.
I was glad to see this site go up and hope it goes a good long time.
Thanks for sharing.
Speakup on October 2, 2006 at 12:46 AM
Haha. Just wait until your Cowboys are in our house in November.
Ian on October 2, 2006 at 12:49 AM
I bet that was quite cathartic. Nice post. FWIW, I had the exact same feeling on the TO case. No way that guy tries to kill himself. I bet he gives himself hugs in the mirror every morning.

Hey Beyan–I like this stray thoughts format. Good for you.

Cute family ‘feud’ Ian and Bryan :)
Before blogging, I admired Michelle for her talent to cohesively make a strong argument, on important topics, on TV, in her books and articles.
I also have a special kinship with people of different cultural backgrounds, especially when they so unabashedly (like self) love the U.S.A.
In addition, I admire her for the courage to cut through PC and other BS and make the case for difficult items which need to be addressed, but first discussed.
Also, she is wity, funny, down-to-earth, polite and normal.
The rats will never go away and will always carry doo-doo from one place to another. Poison some of them with your pen, your show-commentaries, and with your vents!

I’m just glad the Panthers beat the Saints! I’m picking Seattle to win it all, by the way. :)
SouthernGent on October 2, 2006 at 1:10 AM
My goodness! You silly, silly people.
Don’t you know that THIS YEAR is the year of DA-BEARS. 37 to 6 over Seattle. Undefeated.
The White Sox didn’t repeat. Pitty. Well, it was wonderful while it lasted. And I still call it COMISKEY PARK. Ya hear that Reinsdorf, you greedy bastich?
The Cubbies are coming appart — litteraly. The President (Andy McPhail) resigned. Dusty is probably a goner — he’ll find out later this morning. The only good thing about all this is that maybe the hated Tribune Company [spit] will sell them to somebody else who will love them and not simply treat them as a “corporate division and profit center.”
The Bulls — well, we can always hope for next season. Damn that Reinsdorf!
The Blackhawks haven’t been the same since Bobby left — and the old stadium got torn down. The days of highspeed hockeypucks slapped into the stands, the views blocked by the support beams, the hot pennies and hats tossed out into the ice during the fights. All gone. Sigh…
Soccer? Maybe in the next decade, when their paid attendence gets over 4000.
So, our hopes this year lie with DA-BULLS!
Can you tell I’m a native Chicago boy? [Though I live in a rural county just south of the Wisconsin state line that’s almost considered “packer” (or is it “nosepicker?”) country.

Er…DA-BEARS!
I was watching video of the Lovabulls and got distracted.

Michelle is in many ways the Left’s worst nightmare: an articulate, hyper-intelligent “minority” woman, who is not only willing and eager to expose the Left down to it’s rotten core, but is gorgeous and good-natured while doing it.
Halley on October 2, 2006 at 2:18 AM
The Eagles aren’t gonna just beat the Crackboys, they’re gonna bitch slap ‘em, waterboard ‘em and put little pink panties on their heads! I predict Mr. T.O. leaves on a stretcher, cryin’ like Jan Brady on prom night.
But don’t worry ’cause the Crackboys are goin’ to the Superbowl! (They’ll be sittin’ in the nosebleed section with all the other losers)
Go Eagles!
Tony737 on October 2, 2006 at 6:28 AM
Halley, Michelle is also successful in what she has undertaken. The left trumpets Hillary Clinton for all of these same reasons (we’ll not dispute the accuracy of those claims for our purposes), but when another woman matches those accomplishments but is not one of their own they target her with their vitriolic venom.
It’s a badge of honor Michelle, as are Bryan’s kind words.
Bellicose Muse on October 2, 2006 at 6:35 AM
Hmmm, I think the post blocker is on, I guess Bryan doesn’t wanna ban me.

Michelle – Priceless.

I’m no big sports fan but…..
“GO SPORTS!” I liked Lisa Simpsons’ reason for liking the Pittsburgh Steelers, “because they cheat.”
That’s nice of you Bryan for sticking up for Michelle & telling us what a “work-is-funaholic” she is. I dinna* know she was married but I’m not at all surprised. And I really dinna know she has 2 kids! Michelle’s so tiny she can sit in the back seat of a VW bug with acres to spare.
Thanks for your blurb today Bryan. I really enjoyed it. :o)
Coronagold on October 2, 2006 at 8:43 AM
At the risk of being banned I’ll try this again.
The Eagles are not just gonna beat the Crackboys, they’re gonna b*tch slap, waterboard ‘em and make ‘em wear panties on their heads. They’re gonna beat so bad that Amnesty Intnl and the ALCU are gonna file suits. I predict Mr. T.O. leaves on a stretcher. But don’t worry Bryan, the Crackboys ARE goin’ to the Superbowl this year … they’ll be sittin’ in the nosebleed section with all the other losers! Bwah-hahaha
Tony737 on October 2, 2006 at 8:46 AM
The Eagles will win. Tonight, that is. If they cover and keep the score fairly low, I win my pool.
It’s all about the Benjamins.
JammieWearingFool on October 2, 2006 at 9:01 AM
Nice post, Bryan. I have garnered much of what you have said over the last couple years following Michelle. She occasionally lets bits of her personal life slip through in her posts, and I latch on to them like a hungry dog to a fresh prime rib. Nice to read someone who knows her personally put it all into one post. She would never do that herself. It is all about class, and she has alot of it.
MalkinFan on October 2, 2006 at 9:17 AM
Cowboys, Eagles, ho hum.
Raiders to the Super Bowl, baby!
Or not.
But hey, they’re in a break-neck race with the Titans to see who’s gonna go 0-16 and get that coveted 1st round pick…
Spurius Ligustinus on October 2, 2006 at 9:21 AM
You’re itchin for a ban, Tony. But it doesn’t matter what you say because your Eagirls are going to crash and burn in front of that asylum you people call a fan base.
Bryan on October 2, 2006 at 9:24 AM
I’m a Browns fan, so I’m happy we got our first win this week. Of course, it was against the Raiders. Funny (in hindsight) line I spoke upon waking up and seeing the score in the 2nd quarter:
Bellicose Muse on October 2, 2006 at 9:31 AM
Bryan, in 1985 (I know!) I was at a national banking seminar in Dallas, and had to sit and listen to the delusional hicks from Texas tell everyone else what huge Cowboys fans they are.
When I got my turn to spew, I told them I was a Chicago Bears fan, and the room got quiet quickly. The Bears were already feared that year around the league. Two weeks later they came into Dallas and destroyed the city and the team, 44-0.
Let this be my Dallas moment: Bryan, nobody cares about your stinkin’ Cowboys, or the Steelers, or the Eagles. It’s all about the Bears this year…
Jaibones on October 2, 2006 at 9:43 AM
It doesn’t matter if the Cowboys or the Eagles win next week, since my beloved New York Football Giants will win the division. (last week didn’t count!)

Which distinguishes HotAir from many other blogs (especially on the left, but some on the right also).
However, Bryan,
Wow, jealousy really turns you ugly :-) You just wish your cowgirls had a tenth of the talent as the Stillers!

BRONCOS !!!!!!!
Does Dallas still have a team?
shooter on October 2, 2006 at 9:51 AM
Bryan, remember the email I sent you about 2 weeks ago regarding the upcomming T.O. quagmire? I hope the “new & improved” official line about what happened is true but, regardless, the man needs help.
I’m glad 81 is healthy enough to play next week. The Eagle’s post game celebration would not be complete without his participation.
The fact that Michelle is an Eagle’s fan pushes her up one more notch in my book. (Which, incidentally, means my scale now goes to eleven.) It’s absolutely ridiculous the filth that is hurled at her constantly. This type of name calling and wholely unserious engagement is sadly what passes for debate these days for the “fake but accurate” left.

Last thought: Bryan, Michelle… how about adding a jersey of next Sunday’s winning team to next Monday’s Vent? I’ll suply the jersey if the Cowgirls win.

Heck, yeah.
Now, what should the league do with Haynesworth? Personally, I don’t think he should see a football field until pre-season training next year. What he did was pretty freaking egregious.
Slublog on October 2, 2006 at 10:28 AM
Great post.
Cary on October 2, 2006 at 10:50 AM
C’mon … thumping your chest over beating the Titans? They’re in salary cap hell from years of congress-like spending and at present are fielding a roster that is talent depleted, to put it mildly. Bragging about beating them is like bragging about being the hottest chick at a Star Trek convention (oh where art thou, JackieMackie?).
Speaking of TO, I can’t wait until Dallas plays at Philly in the TO Bowl this year. Philly has the Al Qaeda of football fans (they booed Santa Claus) and I expect they’re going to be unmerciful with their taunting of TO.
Nice rest-of-the-post too, like this format. Plus, it’s good to know that you and Michelle are friends and can help each other deal with your respective issues (meaning her being an Eagle fan and you being a Cowboy fan …)
thirteen28 on October 2, 2006 at 11:58 AM
My hope!
If “TimeOut” catches a pass all you’ll hear in Philly are crickets.
If “TimeOut” runs the ball the fan should turn their backs on him until the play’s over!
If you think that Philly Fans throwing beer bottles at Santa or holding up asterisk signs when Bonds was in town was bad, just wait. It’s gonna be ugly!

Michelle is a warrior. She makes me feel my linguine spine when she takes a stand like posting the cartoons. When I have worm like thoughts of dread she makes me wake up and realize she is doing what we are supposed to do, be a freeborn human not a serf.
If she was a shameless self-promoter she would have an action-figure. Hey! That’s not a bad idea. At least a plush stuffed Michelle doll, or a line of clothes for skinny people.
Michelle makes people remember we are supposed to walk on two legs not crawl.
Here is something to peruse when you are up late. I am confused. I do not have a clue. A recent Drudge link on Soros: I Quit Politics
He was at a meeting of the CFR. Isn’t the Council on Foreign Relations a Bush Sr. interest? Was this the guy who crashed the pound, and the economy of Indonesia, and tried to bribe the parliment of an eastern bloc country? Who brought in rent-a-mob to rachet up the war in kosovo?
I am stumped on this. What is real? Who is the chump? Me?
This calls for late night web dumpster diving
entagor on October 2, 2006 at 12:23 PM
Ian, Cowboys won 10 out of the last 13 games this century against your skins. Give it up! Your Nascar coach is trying to squeeze every last ounce of the declining talent from his “use to be” QB. Yeah he had a good game a week ago and this week but you know how old light bulbs get real bright before the go out?
Bryan, I don’t think it’s possible for MM to be an SquEagle fan and a Squeelers fan.
realVerse,VY will come into his own eventually. I remember Troy barely survived his first year. Oh yeah RV, were there more Cowboy fans and that game then Titan?

I have to toss my support 100% behind Michelle. She is one of the greatest things on TV, and the Net.
Bryan and Allah are up in the top ten, especially since Bryan refuses to post a half backed conspiracy theory untill he has finished proving it beyond a reasonable doubt.
That smacks of credibility and a sense of Honor. Something the left seems to have misplaced.
