Bloggers gather at White House for pork bill signing; Update: Video added; Update: Ace spotted; Update: Mary K spotted

I was taping three different cable news networks at 9:45 this morning in hopes that they might look in briefly on this moronic event, and that within that shot they’d inexplicably pan from Bush to the crowd so we might catch a glimpse of Instapundit, Mary K, and/or Ace.

They’re all in attendance today. Others of us are not. Thus are enemies made.

I’m monitoring the photo wires and the WH website for a transcript and video. Once I have it, you will too. Will Bush acknowledge those who helped champion this bill on the “Internets”? The suspense mounts.

Update: Here’s what we’ve got thus far. I think that might be Ace in the baby-blue skirt-suit.

Update: Crowd pan!!

Update: Here’s the transcript. No mention of bloggers, which was foolish. TV wasn’t paying any attention to this bill-signing; the Internet was. Why not throw in a reference or two to get people chattering?

Update: White House video right here. There’s a shot of the crowd from the back at the very beginning but I don’t see Ace or Mary K.

Update: Glenn’s first post on the morning’s events is up.

Update: Ace has a post up too. He earned himself a presidential handshake and possibly, maybe, hopefully, a brief interview with Chris Wallace, which I hope he’ll put to good use by asking CW (a) what he thinks of the Olberdouche calling him a “monkey,” (b) whether he himself refers to the Olberdouche as “Olberdouche,” and (c) if he doesn’t, whether maybe it’s time that he starts.

Ace also says he’s visible in both screencaps above. I’ve gone ahead and added a red halo to show where he is.

Update: Mary K e-mails to say she’s visible in the White House video. Here’s the screencap. Devil in a red dress.

maryk.jpg

Update: A little blog love from the Washington Times. No names, alas.

Update: Mary K’s report on the ceremony is here.

Update: N.Z. Bear has photos up. Turns out he’s visible in the screencap too.

Jealousy ill becomes thee, thou unfortunate wretch whose troth is all but plighted to a lefty, hawk tho’ she may be.

Anwyn on September 26, 2006 at 10:40 AM

Jealousy is good.

Jealousy works.

Go with it.

Slublog on September 26, 2006 at 10:44 AM

I’m not really jealous. I wouldn’t have gone even if I was invited. But Bryan might have, so yeah, it would have been nice to have been asked.

Whatever, though. I guess you can’t knock Bush for months and months on immigration and expect him to invite you to his party.

Allahpundit on September 26, 2006 at 10:47 AM

True.

I’m actually not that jealous, but when you’ve got an opportunity to tweak ace, you’ve got to take it.

Slublog on September 26, 2006 at 10:48 AM

I know. I was just teasin’.

Do you really think it was a deliberate or quasi-deliberate exclusion? Blog-aware though apparently somebody in the WH is, could we expect them to be aware of every big gun who was on this?

Anwyn on September 26, 2006 at 10:51 AM

Allah, you are joking, right? Sort of?

For the record, my kudos for the Porkbusters crew are here.

Michelle on September 26, 2006 at 10:51 AM

As for getting invited to White House events, sorry.

I’ll throw a Hot Air office Christmas party to make up for it. You’ll love my candy cane cookies.

Michelle on September 26, 2006 at 10:55 AM

Allah, you are joking, right? Sort of?

Joking ’bout what, boss? About being mad? Yes. About not going if I was invited? No.

Allahpundit on September 26, 2006 at 10:56 AM

You’ll love my candy cane cookies.

Hm. A recipeblog entry is needed to determine whether the cookies in question are truly ‘lovable.’

For science.

Slublog on September 26, 2006 at 10:58 AM

Do you really think it was a deliberate or quasi-deliberate exclusion?

Nah. Mary K told me what probably happened is they asked the Heritage Foundation to put together a list of bloggers for them to invite and someone there picked their faves. I doubt the WH had much to do with it.

Allahpundit on September 26, 2006 at 10:59 AM

A- About being mad. I posted before I saw your comment.

Michelle on September 26, 2006 at 11:00 AM

Well, I’m a little mad. But so is Dean Barnett, so it’s all good…

Allahpundit on September 26, 2006 at 11:02 AM

Always a bridesmaid…

Greg Tinti on September 26, 2006 at 11:03 AM

C’mon Allah there is only so much room and would you really want to be in the same room as Helen Thomas and Dick Gregory? Unless of course maybe you have a crush on one of the other invitees and are just mad because of another missed oppurtunity to make your prescence known.
Maybe when he signs the border fence bill you will get an invite. Don’t go all Clintoon on us now.

LakeRuins on September 26, 2006 at 11:04 AM

I really doubt Dick Gregory was there.

Greg Tinti on September 26, 2006 at 11:07 AM

No mention of bloggers, which was foolish.

That’s really odd. Why go through all the trouble of inviting bloggers there if you’re not going to at least acknowledge them in your speech?

Slublog on September 26, 2006 at 11:10 AM

Well, I figure when the WH dudes read the handle “Allahpundit” they didn’t want to take any chances … *cough*

Niko on September 26, 2006 at 11:16 AM

Well, I figure when the WH dudes read the handle “Allahpundit” they didn’t want to take any chances …

Why? Haven’t you heard — “Islam means peace”?

Allahpundit on September 26, 2006 at 11:17 AM

Joking ’bout what, boss? About being mad? Yes.

Maybe you didn’t get the memo, but outrage is in, baby!

Pablo on September 26, 2006 at 11:20 AM

Does anybody else find it odd that the head of ABC news political division and a reporter at the Washington Post have collaborated on a book entitled “The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008″

In the stampede of books attempting to make their mark this season comes THE WAY TO WIN, by longtime political reporters Mark Halperin and John Harris.

The political director of ABCNEWS and the national politics editor of the WASHINGTON POST make it official in their new insider tome on DC politics and how it’s played:

LakeRuins on September 26, 2006 at 11:30 AM

Pablo, Dean is just sucking up because he knows he won’t get near the “Hillary 2008″ campaign. They consider him mickey-mouse with an attitude chip (in his brain).

LakeRuins, great point. And, they will lose again.

Entelechy on September 26, 2006 at 11:54 AM

AP, having beaten the old f—s at their archaic shenanigans is better than anything.

To have mentioned the bloggers would have been to their advantage. This WH has never been good at communication and public relations.

Entelechy on September 26, 2006 at 11:58 AM

Invited, not invited, acknowlegment, or no acknowlegment, handshake, or no handshake; Allah I would like to invite, acknowlege, and shake your hand.

You and a few others did the Lion’s Share of bringing this legislation to a vote. I sincerely thank you.

natesnake on September 26, 2006 at 1:03 PM

Is that Mary K in the second row looking down at something, perhaps a digital camera?

SisterToldjah on September 26, 2006 at 1:08 PM

I just had my first laugh out loud moment of the day.
AllahP..you are hilarious when you are in a “snit” (real or for our entertainment).
Beware the Boss..trust me because this week I am the Boss..so eat those candy cane cookies and SMILE DARNIIT! :)
GOOD JOB to the Blogosphere for this bill. Ace’s post is hilarious as well..thanks All!

labwrs on September 26, 2006 at 1:11 PM

Don’t even be a little mad, Allah – it’s not worth the time wasted. A lot of good things people say/do on the blogsphere go completely unnoticed by the “higher ups.” That’s just the way it is sometimes.

SisterToldjah on September 26, 2006 at 1:15 PM

I’m fairly certain that Mary K Ham can be seen in the second screencap- immediately down and to the left of Ace (his 7 o’clock).

Kid from Brooklyn on September 26, 2006 at 1:22 PM

I stand corrected.

Kid from Brooklyn on September 26, 2006 at 1:40 PM

We both were :)

Go Mary K! Looks like she was in good company in the audience, if the dude next to her is any indication ;)

SisterToldjah on September 26, 2006 at 1:42 PM

Regardless, it’s significant that bloggers were invited to this event. I hope the WashTimes article is not the only one out there referencing the blogosphere’s role. Also, Allah making such a public appearance would’ve upstaged the Prez.

realVerse on September 26, 2006 at 2:29 PM

Allahpundit: you don’t need no stinkin White House ceremony. You’re more of an idea than a real person anyway…pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!

honora on September 26, 2006 at 2:49 PM

Mary K, KP, Bethany, and SisterToldjah send you little notes.

Michelle bakes you cookies.

Allah, you have a hard life, indeed.

dinasour on September 26, 2006 at 3:27 PM

AP, you know they have to keep a dignitary like yourself in an undisclosed location for gatherings like this. What would be the fate of the blogosphere if something awful happened at the WH today with all that brainpower in the same room?

Valiant on September 26, 2006 at 3:32 PM

I’m trying really hard to wrap my brain around the idea of Allah as the Cheney of the blogosphere, but I keep laughing too hard.

Anwyn on September 26, 2006 at 4:14 PM

’m trying really hard to wrap my brain around the idea of Allah as the Cheney of the blogosphere, but I keep laughing too hard.

He is much more important than even Bush. I would rank him Secretary-General of the United Nations…KING OF THE WORLD!!

Valiant on September 26, 2006 at 4:31 PM

I’m trying really hard to wrap my brain around the idea of Allah as the Cheney of the blogosphere, but I keep laughing too hard.

Cheney of the blogosphere?

So that’s why he shot me in the face. I thought it was because he hated me.

Makes sense now.

Slublog on September 26, 2006 at 4:57 PM

Candy cane cookies??!!! Ouch! Bleah! And just think of the dentist bills!!

Oh…..you meant cookies in the shape of candy canes. Okay, I can live with that.

Coronagold on September 26, 2006 at 9:30 PM

Big A, Take it as a badge. Use it like the professional sports players who convince their selves that everyone doubted their talents. You know, didn’t give them respect. I don’t want to see the image of Allah(it’s forbidden anway). It makes you more mysterious and glorious. You know like the Unknown Comic. Cult classic. Anyway Super Heroes only reveal their true appearance to their true loves. Or is that flashers?

Drtuddle on September 27, 2006 at 12:38 AM

Dear Diary,
Today I signed the transparency bill into law. We invited a bunch of bloggers to be present and they are an interesting bunch. I saw George Lucas there and shook his hand. I think he has a blog called “The Jawa Report”. I also saw an attractive woman wearing a red dress. Sure is a refreshing change from having to see Helen Thomas. There was one guy who sat there the entire time saying nothing but “Heh” and “Indeed”. I think it was Andrew Sullivan, but he wasn’t crying and slobbering so I’m not sure about that.
Regards,
G.W. Bush

Bellicose Muse on September 27, 2006 at 7:17 AM

On the subject of MK Ham being attractive, someone should create a calander with pics of conservative women (and being conservative means being intelligent, and intelligence is attractive). Surely there are at least 12 to choose from. And I’m talking something tastefully done, not trashy. If the ladies decide “tastefully done” means wearing swimsuits and holding a laptop so be it, but that’s up to them. So, there is Michelle, MK, Bethany, Pamela from Atlas Shrugs, LaShawn Barber, Sarah K (IMAO), Helen Reynolds…we need 5 more. We can put Kirsten Powers in there with an asterisk beside her pic.
