Air America’s non-paid talk show host Al Franken appeared on MSNBC’s “Tucker” last Thursday to discuss Ahmadinejad and his best pal Hugo Chavez’s speech; Air America; and his new documentary God Spoke. It’s about Franken’s life over the course of two years, zzzzzzz.

Below you will find a cut of the video and a partial transcript with important points bolded.

CARLSON: You had said the other day that you weren‘t getting paid, you hadn‘t been getting paid recently. And it made some people wonder if the experiment in liberal radio was—was failing.

Do you think? Are you getting paid? And do you think it‘s going to be around a while?

FRANKEN: Well, I said that there was a cash flow problem.

CARLSON: Right.

FRANKEN: And the reason I knew that, that no cash was flowing to me. And so it was meant sort of as a joke, although it was a stupid thing to say because it was true.

He tried to squeeze out of his “joke” by making a jab at FOX News, who had a difficult financial start. Yeah, but FOX News is/was not being funded by liberal sugar daddies.

Hat tip to Brian Maloney, The Radio Equalizer, who writes:

Note that Al isn’t listed as an Air America Radio host at the bottom of the screen (what you do see, in red, was added by the YouTube uploader). When asked about the network, Franken sure didn’t make a convincing case for its continuing operation.

Awww shucks! I had hopes that a report of Soros bailing out Air America was to be found here. Well, I believe it will soon enough.

I’m also looking for a report that Air America has finally repaid the charity that had its funds absconded to keep the sponsor-less show afloat.

DannoJyd on September 25, 2006 at 5:00 PM

His new documentary God Spoke is about taking back America one joke at a time? OOOHHH! I get it! It is either another work of Hollywood fiction, or the joke is the movie itself.

Pretty lame. :o)

Here comes a shocker… I listen to Air America. Though they are as guilty of pushing an agenda as Limbaugh and ilk, it’s nice to hear an alternative agenda being pushed once in a while.

Question: Is it Franken that makes Conservative’s blood boil? Would there be an acceptable progressive talk radio show?

GregH on September 25, 2006 at 5:15 PM

I have tried listening to them, if they made my blood boil I might keep listening, but they just put me to sleep.

B Moe on September 25, 2006 at 5:21 PM

I’m smart enough, I’m good enough, and doggone it, we have a cash flow problem.

Bellicose Muse on September 25, 2006 at 5:26 PM

Is it Franken that makes Conservative’s blood boil?

Pathetic people don’t make my blood boil.

Would there be an acceptable progressive talk radio show?

Only if habitual lying an acceptable form of communication.

As for “Limbaugh and ilk”, why do you think he’s been so successful and Franken/AA such a failure. Could it be that Limbaugh effectively communicates what a majority of listeners already believe and that he reinforces those beliefs? If so, what does that say about Franken and the rest of AA?

When Air America goes off the air, how will anyone know?

JammieWearingFool on September 25, 2006 at 6:10 PM

Air America should be renamed Air Al-Qaeda

GregH says that it’s nice to hear alternative agenda being pushed, so then i guess that Bush bashing & America bashing is ok with you liberals.

Starblazer on September 25, 2006 at 6:16 PM

correction - GregH says that it’s nice to hear alterative agendas, hmmm… i guess that liberals are loyal to Osama Bin Laden after all, since liberals hate this country as much as Bin Laden does & they continue to bash this country everyday & liberals keep saying that the U.S. is a bigger threat to the world than all the terrorists combined.

Starblazer on September 25, 2006 at 6:39 PM

They can’t be successful in the private sector, yet they want us to trust them with the government? If they can’t make a business run smoothly, and deal with cashflow, how are they supposed to be trusted to spend our tax dollars effectively, especially when they want to raise them?

StoutRepublican on September 25, 2006 at 7:25 PM

The liberal business plan is not unlike the liberal governing plan ….. throw money at it, if it continues to fail throw more money at it, and never, ever admit the program is a failure.

I agree, Al will put any sane person asleep. He is not a good talk radio host. To much of the monotone voice, the uhs, and the lack of pace. At least when he had a co-host, she kept things a little lively and on schedule. I think her job was to prod him every 5 minutes to make sure he was awake. Oy, oy, oy.

The one who angers me is Randi Rhodes. She just makes shit up to fit her wacked-out moonbat conspiracy theories. I think her motto is, “Talk long and loud enough so that no one will stand it to stick around to debate or disprove me.” She is the worst.

Mallard T. Drake on September 25, 2006 at 7:51 PM

If Bill O’Reilly didn’t exist, Al would be forced to create him. Otherwise, Al has no show at all…

Mallard T. Drake on September 25, 2006 at 8:05 PM

Sorry Al, but you’r getting exactly the pay you deserve. Zip! Nada! Nothing! You are nothing but a gasbag of the left an unept at making a living!

You mean we might be seeing phony Al Franken
sitting on a corner with a:
“WILL WORK FOR FOOD” sign.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer a$$hole.

byteshredder on September 25, 2006 at 11:20 PM

He wasn’t funny as a comedy writer. He wasn’t funny as a skit comedian. He wasn’t funny as a book writer. But man, oh man, is he funny as a political pundit.

AA and “it’s ilk” will never seem to understand that radio listeners HAVE brains, and don’t need idiots like Franken to tell them what to think.

Unfortunately, he may be gearing up to run against Sen Coleman in Minnesota in 08.

Nitwit Greg, wtf do you think NPR, ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN are? Buy a clue and go back to the fever swamp for your circle jerk.
