Hence, I am confused.

No, Conservatives believe that Satan exists, because Evil exists (plus most are Judeo-Christians). The Left does not believe in Evil, just in less than Right. They believe all of mankind is good, if just lifted from proverty.

The Right believes that man is Evil and proverty has nothing to do with it.

Actually the devil is quite dishonest about where he stands. He is the “father of lies,” and that’s one of the things that makes him devilish.

Falwell’s joke–and that’s what it was–could also be a tongue-in-cheek way of acknowledging that many modern Christians no longer really believe in their heart of hearts that evil is real, so Hillary would be scarier than a red guy with a pitchfork who’s just a myth. The late great Christian singer Keith Green had a song about that–”Nobody Believes In Me Anymore.” CS Lewis’ classic The Screwtape Letters also talks about how easy it is for evil to work when no one believes that it’s real.

I doubt Falwell was relying on all that to make a political one-liner, but he may have been and he would have been on firm ground if he was.

As a Baptist (Missionary Baptist, just to be clear about it) myself, I have one comment for Falwell.

“Shut Up and go spread the Gospel.”

As much as I may agree with his take on Hillary, I don’t think it’s particularly beneficial to have active Ministers involved in politics. I don’t approve of it from the Imams, I don’t approve of it from The Reverend Jesse Jackson, and I don’t approve of it from Jerry Falwell, either.

Oh, my mistake. I thought that we had a freedom of speech and that private citizens didn’t have to apologize for things they say in public. Apparently only LIBERAL private citizens are afforded this right.

As for Hillary v Lucifer, I don’t think that this is a choice. It’s actually Hillary & Lucifer…if you consider, as I do, Bill to be the equivalent of the big red guy (as depicted in all the cartoons!)

Not that I’m sold on McCain, but I’m reading between the lines here, and I read that as a pretty damning rebuke of Hillary.

I always imagined Satan would be a political moderate; that’s just the way he operates.

I hate moderates.

I don’t know if I’m the only one to notice this, but Falwell might be more of a partisan than he is a preacher.
