We’re number one five!
posted at 1:38 pm on September 24, 2006 by Allahpundit
When I met Michelle I was but the learner. Now I am the master.
From last night’s Beltway Boys. The circle is now complete.
Well, not exactly. I don’t know where Nielsen Net Ratings gets their numbers but this has to be based on unique visitors, not hits. The reason we’re up above MM.com, LGF, and Instapundit in that category is because we got two monster Drudge links late last month: one for the Conan O’Brien plane-crash skit at the Emmys, the other for Kyra Phillips making a tinkle with her mike on on CNN. We had 750,000 hits in a single day, of which probably a good 725,000 were uniques who clicked through to watch the vid, never to return again. So there’s the explanation.
The top five libsites for comparison:

That’s a lot of mojo for HuffPo. What’s sadder: the fact that Hot Air’s the only actual blog among the righty top five, and we’re only there because of the Drudge fluke? Or the fact that the two most heavily trafficked lefty blogs also happen to be the two nuttiest? Kirsten Powers told me the other day she’s essentially given up blogging because there’s no demand for moderate left-wing voices. Super.

Fluke or not, you operate an excellent site. I check it several times a day because it is constantly updated with good information. To steal a great line from a PBS fund drive, you are a “Rare medium, well done”.
DAT60A3 on September 24, 2006 at 1:46 PM
WooHoo! Only 782 hits to #1 the next link from Drudge should cover that.
Kos thought he was the internet almighty? Never under guesstimate the site-hit powers of Allah.
Catnip on September 24, 2006 at 1:49 PM
When Kirsten told you that the other day, did she call you or nudge you?
mikeyboss on September 24, 2006 at 1:50 PM
congratulations
for a young site this is well done

Congrats, This is my daily source of “whats up”

Moderate Left wing voices ? I think they are hanging out with those moderate Muslims.Being vewwy vewwy quiet.
bbz123 on September 24, 2006 at 2:27 PM
An excellent job is being done with jogging memories of pertinent past events, everyone is to be congratulated (give yourselves a pat on the back).
P.S. Michelle is STILL #1 on my list.
tormod on September 24, 2006 at 2:56 PM
DU didn’t make the Liberal List?? I’m shocked.
BTW, what the hell is a “moderate liberal”? A liberal in denial?

Congrats HA. Nicely done.
daveintexas on September 24, 2006 at 3:03 PM
You guys totally ROCK! But as long as DailyKos continues to push toward 900,000 hits on this rating, I’ll question the existence of a benevolent higher power.
No matter really, I’ve turned a good part of my actual God worship to your boss. She is the Athena/Minerva of the digital age. But, Allah and Bryan, you guys make some pretty decent demi-gods, if that helps.
SailorDave on September 24, 2006 at 3:14 PM
HOTAiR’s flame is well lit and burning; we are getting our fill. Thank you and Congratulations!

Great content all around… But Michelle’s daily Vent videos are definitely the main draw. I can’t remember the last time I watched evening news cast on the “big three”, but I never miss Vent. Looks like Hot Air is a better venture than the Pajamas thing. Couldn’t help but notice the Blogads. :)
john98 on September 24, 2006 at 4:24 PM
She just figured that out?
RightWinged on September 24, 2006 at 4:38 PM
I agree with DAT60A3.
Not a Dhimmicrat on September 24, 2006 at 5:02 PM
Congrats Michelle, Allah & Bryan! It’s really cool to see a great blog I basically stumbled onto just out of nosey curiosity get several mentions on Fox News! This place rocks. I think it has to do with all those ‘-mania’s. :o)
Coronagold on September 24, 2006 at 5:09 PM
Way to go HotAir! Congrats to Michelle, Bryan, Allah, the staff and all readers and posters.
How did Lucianne not make the list? If it weren’t for Lucianne, how many of us would never have found out about HotAir?
Anyway, #5 this year, #1 next year. Rock on, Michelle!
Tony737 on September 24, 2006 at 5:27 PM
Yeah — how did Lucianne not make the cut? Not that I post there but I do read it at least once per day. I believe that’s how I learned of HotAir too — either that or straight from MM’s site.
wytammic on September 24, 2006 at 5:56 PM
What? #5? Hell, you’ve been the #1 destination on my daily internet routine so long I rarely have need to go elsewhere anymore, unless it’s linked by HA, or just want to be entertained. Which begs the question:
I wonder what percentage of Kos hits are actually conservatives driving by just to keep tabs on the enemy?
Keep it up Michelle, Brian, Allah, et al. You guys RULE!
Benthoven on September 24, 2006 at 6:03 PM
What defines a conservative website, and what does the list look like? Or are they just looking at this month? You’re nipping at Charles’ heels, like Jay Leno to his Letterman at the outset of the Late Night Wars, but he would seem to have you beat over any stretch.
Then again, Hot Air has only been here for five months, so just imagine where you could be once you’ve had nine months in your meteoric rise! At this rate, you’ll be quoted on the floor of the United Federation of Planets in no time.
Michelle, Bryan, Allah and Ian, you guys have done an awesome job with Hot Air. This place rocks, the Vent is revolutionary and the world is noticing.
Pablo on September 24, 2006 at 7:50 PM
Whatever the reason AllahP, I think it has more to do with hardwork and determination than anything else. Good job to one and all at HotAir and thank you for everything you folks do here for your fellow Americans!

Congrats, You all deserve it. Its been a meteoric rise, even with the Druge push. You guys are honest , pretty well balanced for what you’re doing, you are fast and on top of the news cycle (sometimes ahead) and its a great site overall. Easy to read and navigate, plenty of info at the fingertips, easy on the eyes (more Michelle and Bethany might get you #1), and lots of links. Works for me. Happy to be one of your readers.
Maybe you can hire K.P.? Be the “FOX” of blogs?
(Allah, hows your concentration?)

Cool!
Hot Air is has been my favorite place on the internet since its very first day.
Of course my total adoration of Michelle is at the base of it.
But Allah (and Bryan & Ian) do a superb job of keeping things up to date and focused, and they seem to pick up most of the news topics that I’m personally obsessing on at any given time.
I started out on Lucianne and kind of like the format there, given the limitations of text only. Free Republic is a great place too, but their structure provides much chaff and only a little wheat. The others mentioned… I only visit them when I get a lead provided here or on FR.
Hot Air is, I think, a groundbreaking innovation; the first news/politics oriented site to really exploit all the great techniques and technology that the internet makes possible.
I see a bright future for this trendsetting place.
Kudos to all the staff, contributors and (most of) the regular citizen commentators involved.
LegendHasIt on September 24, 2006 at 8:42 PM
I wonder what the top RW sites are if you take out the non-blog sites? That would be an interesting question to research.
Now I know why you are linking to RealVerse- to give you a hottie to compete with MM.
old_dawg on September 24, 2006 at 8:58 PM
Even with your self imposed asterisk, HotAir is in it’s infancy and only good things are to come! Congrats!

Hotair versus Newsmax:
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&compare_sites=www.newsmax.com&y=r&q=&size=medium&range=6m&url=hotair.com
Looks like Newsmax has dipped downward. And what was that pre-September spike that knocked Newsmax, and all the rest, out of the ballpark?
Kokonut on September 24, 2006 at 9:24 PM
Congrats, Hot Air team. I’ve been reading and commenting since day one, and have been constantly thrilled with the content. Great job! Keep up the good work.

Five Pillars of HotAir
1. HotAir is the One True Conservative VBlog and Allah Pundit is the Messenger.
2. Visit HotAir Five Times Daily, With Your Back to Mecca.
3. Must abstain from reading MSM for 30 days before any election cycle.
4. Contribute Financially to organizations who help those who have sacrificed to protect us and to those whom we have liberated.
5. Must make a pilgrimage to Ground Zero at least once in your lifetime.
zb42 on September 24, 2006 at 10:03 PM
Pillar 4 link for those who have sacrificed to protect us doesn’t seem to be working, so here it is:

Since I’m sort of a one-track poster here….
RE: KP
NOOOOOOOoooOOOOOoooOOOOooo!!!!!!!!11!!!!11111one
Now do you think she’ll change the header image?
MacStansbury on September 24, 2006 at 11:15 PM
Woo! You can bet that’s going on my resume.
That’s depressing. And it’s similarly disappointing to see moderate right-wing voices swing farther away from balanced views. Compare Glenn Reynolds after 9/11 to Glenn Reynolds now. Republicans go right, Democrats go left. I can’t wait for shouting matches of “America is a terrorist state!” vs “Nuke Mecca!”
Allahpundit, in the spirit of preventing the dialog from going to crap, and seeing as how you’re the most moderate contributer here at Hot Air, you should set up a weekly link-trading feature with KP. You agree to find and link to a reasonable blog post by a moderate Democrat, and she agrees to find and link to a reasonable blog post by a moderate Republican. Plus… it’ll give you two something to talk about… to break that ice that is holding your relationship back.
Mark Jaquith on September 25, 2006 at 2:01 AM
Looks like raises all around for Allah and Bryan. I used to go to Drudge first to get an initial look at the news, and I still do visit there, but I come here just as often to find out what’s going on in general, and specifically from a conservative opinion. The humor and insightful commenting from Allah and Bryan make the site great, so keep up the good work.
BTW, Powers may not feel that there is no demand for moderate left-wing voices, but I’ll be there is one for moderate left-wing voices in bikinis. She should explore the demographic for that.
Bellicose Muse on September 25, 2006 at 2:01 AM
Consider how often Huffpo gets linked at Realclearpolitics. I see those all too often.
Consider how many times Kos got linked to from here.
Consider how long Hot Air has been in existence, and compare that to all the others in the top 5 categories.
IMHO, Hot Air is #1, and that is all I care about. ;o)
DannoJyd on September 25, 2006 at 4:29 AM
I read Drudge the minute I logon my PC. Then I jump to Michelle, and American Thinker. I love HotAir for the great symbiosis with Michelle, the great links, just like Michellemalkin, and great arguments, some of the most provoking analyses around…
and the fact it is the only blog beside Drudge that I can read easily with my bad eyes. Sadly, people with good vision don’t know how painful it is. Going to a larger text size is not the same thing. Hotair is so painless.
Newsmax changed to a format that kills me to read. Delicate san serif Arial, Microsoft’s favorite sadistic font, torments as the letters cling to each other and become one.
I enjoy many of the unique contributors to Newsmax. I often go there to double check Drudge. It is my second news source. Their science articles are great. I found a toothpaste that rebuilds enamel and ends tooth sensitivity through a Newmax article about a new medical compound. But that darn font!
HotAir is a great achievement and deserves all the praise.
