CBS gives free speech to illegal alien on Couric’s freeSpeech segment

“Carlos”, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was featured on last night’s segment of CBS Evening News’ freeSpeech. Here is how he describes himself:

I ended up graduating 5th in my high school class and have since graduated college and I hope to become a lawyer. But because I am undocumented, I could never get a license to practice law and that puts me in a state of limbo. I’ve grown up here and I feel American – I just lack the piece of paper that validates it.

This is the third night in a row that a liberal opinion was expressed and the second time that an open borders view was shown unopposed. CBS has yet to have someone on who believes in strong borders and national security.

At the end of the transcript on CBS News’ website, a link to theDREAM (Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors) Act is provided and you can just guess what that is all about. Yet another propaganda piece:

“Carlos” is a young man who arrived in the United States without speaking english over 10 years ago, and recently graduated college. He aspires to become a lawyer.

His future and the future of thousands of other students who have grown up in the U.S. depends on the Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) now pending in Congress. For more information visit the website, www.dontjustdreamact.com.

Aww. Don’t you just feel so bad that Congress can’t pass a bill that takes your tax money and gives it to illegal immigrants who don’t have to pay taxes? Doesn’t it just tear at your heart?

Dumb question, but how do you prove you’re illegal?

Dumb question, but how do you prove you’re illegal?

see-dubya on September 22, 2006 at 3:26 PM

You don’t. You prove you are LEGAL.

Andy in Agoura Hills on September 22, 2006 at 3:28 PM

Yeah, and while this criminal was getting his free education, who’s spot did he usurp in the classroom??? I’d like to know the college he graduated from. Do you think that college gets taxpayer dollars???

Andy in Agoura Hills on September 22, 2006 at 3:30 PM

Yeah, breaks my heart.Another thief looking to practice law.

bbz123 on September 22, 2006 at 3:32 PM

Did this clown actually just complain about getting a free college education. Here’s a thought! How about going back to Mexico and using that education to FIX your own country?!!

This is absurd!

Michelle? Ian? Bryan? Have any of you contacted CBS to volunteer for equal time?

Gregor on September 22, 2006 at 3:35 PM

Directly from the Dream Act website:

“If passed, the “Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act,” S. 2075, a bipartisan federal proposal led by Senators Richard Durbin (R-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Richard Lugar (R-IN), would facilitate access to college for immigrant students in the U.S. by restoring states’ rights to offer in-state tuition to immigrant students residing in their state.”

Senators Richard Durbin (R-IL) Contact here.
Chuck Hagel (R-NE) Contact here.
Richard Lugar (R-IN) Contact here.

I believe some phone calls and emails are in order!

Gregor on September 22, 2006 at 3:43 PM

Excuse me if I am exhibiting my ignorance here, but was there something in particular stopping this guy from getting citizenship?

Anwyn on September 22, 2006 at 3:58 PM

Being a criminal maybe?

Iblis on September 22, 2006 at 4:01 PM

If this guy goes back home with a college degree from the United States, he’ll be able to have a job that will probably convince him to stay in his country. A lot, and I mean a lot, of elected officers in Latin American countries have some education in the US. I believe that even the President-elect of Mexico is a grad of US schools. Why can’t he go back and try to apply from there?
Why?
Why?

What makes me feel bad is that they aren’t even making an effort to portray the reality of illegal immigration. For every sob story about a Latin American illegal who winds up a potential lawyer, there are dozens who wind up as hard-core felons.

Most people are not even making any effort at weighing the multigenerational consquences of illegal immigration. Take a look at the educational attainment of even 4th generation Mexican-Americans in the United States (it ain’t pretty):

http://www.parapundit.com/archives/002109.html

Now those sort of dismal statistics are going to keep America the top First World country on the planet in the century ahead? Are those statistics, with a continued and significant influx of immigrants from Latin America, even going to keep us a First World nation?

tommy1 on September 22, 2006 at 4:09 PM

I feel kind of bad for Carlos. Let’s all help get him back to his home country fast so he can apply for US citizenship if he wants to live here!

This is the third night in a row that a liberal opinion was expressed and the second time that an open borders view was shown unopposed. CBS has yet to have someone on who believes in strong borders and national security.

YOU EXPECTED THEM TO BE FAIR AND BALANCED? You expected them to give credence to arguments which show the lie to everything they believe in. Then, with all due respect, my friend, you haven’t been paying attention to your own fine work! LOL.

Look at the “speech codes” and Politically Correct Pamphlets that appear whenever liberals are in charge all designed to limit debate. They know their arguments generally lose when the other side is given fair access, that’s why they gear everything to ignoring emperical evidence in favor of feelings. But c’mon dude, do you really doubt who Katie Couric is? She’s a vessel of wrath my friend, fitted for destruction ( Rom 9:22), disinformation is her specialty. When you examine the tenents of the earth’s three major religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, one place that they all agree is the prophetic utterances concerning the descent of man into immorality.

Have you ever wondered how this is going to be accomplished? Well, who were Christ’s main adversaries? Pharisees, (politicians with a religioius bent, hypocrites) and the Priests (also politicians of their day, makers of the law in general) and lastly but not least THE SCRIBES ( THE MEDIA, BABY!), these were who the devil used to combat and persecute Jesus. Not some farmer nobody cares about! Those in charge of forming public opinion, whether they be, liberal politicians ADVOCATING SIN WITH EVERY BREATH, news anchors(who claim a religion but have nothing in common with their “faith”), celebrities(who won’t get married until every last deviant on earth can!), or whomever the roaring lion can use, to pervert this country. Wait until she visits Gay Marriage or eventually Incest!(LIBS in Hollywood are now featuring Incest on shows like, “Rescue Me” and others) She’ll have people on who’ll have a “fresh take” on “old taboo’s” or some such “progressive” crap. She’s perky on the outside, my friend, but the inside IS FULL OF DEAD BONES.

Soothsayer on September 22, 2006 at 4:11 PM

So we are supposed to believe that ‘Carlos’ is smart enough to graduate college but too stupid to apply for citizenship!?

Sorry CBS, I ain’t buying it.

speed647 on September 22, 2006 at 4:26 PM

Yeah speed, that’s my thing too. Why don’t these jackasses apply for citizenship first instead of the whiny act after the fact?

Anwyn on September 22, 2006 at 4:28 PM

Poor, poor, poor, illegal alien Carlos who wants to be a lawyer but can’t because he himself is a criminal. I am so sick and tired of these clowns being catered to. In the great Commonwealth of VA, the previous clown Gov. and possible dim Presidential candidate Mark Warner, had the same idea. Let’s give all the illegals in-state or free tution. However, let’s only give the children or spouses who serve their country and live in the Commonwealth one year and forget all those legal US kids who want to go to UVA or Tech–full price for you. But Carlos-we want you to come here for free and get educated. I am sick and tired of the catering to these illegals. I would also like to know where this clown went to college. When I went I had to show my birth certificate, social security card and d. l. I think that if this Carlos wants to be a citizen, he should have to join the military and then he can be granted citizenship. I know there are a number of illegals in the service and that’s fine-they should be given their citizenship if they sacrifice by serving their country and it is a sacrifice. However, Carlos should go back from whence he came and come here legally. No wonder lawyers continue to have a bad reputation. Here is a criminal who wants to practice the law. He can defend all the other illegal aliens who commit crimes (well the ones who don’t escape back to mexico first). Perhaps Carlos can defend the illegal in CO who killed his girlfriend by dragging her behind his car.
Well Carlos, I graduated number 3 out of 222 myself. While I did get some scholarship money it wasn’t enough to pay my entire way through the University of Notre Dame. I went the ROTC route myself to pay for it. I would imagine I also as a taxpayer of the US paid your way as well. I don’t mind paying for students (American citizens) who go to college legally. However, I do mind paying for those who are illegal. American taxpayers paid for your education in your formal years-frankly Carlos I think we’ve given you enough.

Catie96706 on September 22, 2006 at 4:30 PM

I’ve grown up here

If he has been here ten years and has greaduated from college, he did not grow up here. He must have been 12-15 years old when he came.
I suppose he cannot apply for citizenship unless he returns home and makes the application there. He would not have trouble getting a student visa, those are handed out like candy. Just what we need, another lawyer.
He should go home and apply for a student visa and quit whining.

Couric’s a ratings whore.

Soothsayer summed it up better than I can!

Probably because he’s getting everything for free. Why go back?

darwin on September 22, 2006 at 7:00 PM

Let’s see, if Carlos ever gets to practice law in the U.S. I wonder what he’ll devote his efforts to?

Could it be…oh maybe…making it easier for illegals to come across the border and get free services like education and medical care without having to pay taxes or be subject to the same social responsibilities as legal U.S. immigrants?

Could it be? You think? Maybe?

Follow the links to write your Senator or congressman on site http://www.dontjustdreamact.com. You’ll find the links around where it says 65,000 Immigrants graduate high school (on our dime) , but it doesnt say ILLEGAL, but they are all Illegal, keep reading the web page….”they are denied the opportunity to share in the “American Dream.” They’re trying to get ILLEGALS IN-STATE TUITION or even FREE SCHOOLING.

I tried to write my senator, but it linked through to LA RAZA which makes my email automatically look pro illegals.

What a Scam, LA RAZA NOW INVADING ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS calling it their DREAM? BULL!

shooter on September 22, 2006 at 11:36 PM

I got a Dream Foundation too.

My Dream is to kick Carlos’s law breaking ass back over the border.

Carlos wants to be a lawyer? He doesn’t have any interest in obeying the law. He is a thief, a fraud, a liar, a usurper, and not in any way an American.

He is a Guatemalan living illegally in America on our dime.

If you want to be an American, try asking us, the owners of America for permission.

entagor on September 23, 2006 at 3:24 AM

Hey Shooter,
You say that the web page says “they are denied the opportunity to share in the American Dream”. I’m surprised it doesn’t say the right to share in the American Dream.

Jeff on September 23, 2006 at 6:23 AM

While trying to share in the American Dream, an illegal mexican (that had been deported in 1999) murdered a Houston police officer yesterday. Maybe CBS should interview HIM.

Quota for his native country is likely full with a long waiting list. So he could apply, the when is in question. (Didn’t see this segment so I might be off the mark but in general that’s the issue).

honora on September 23, 2006 at 11:19 AM

Did any of you read the damn linked story? Carlos is from Guatemala, and came here legally:

Within a year of my arrival, I was already in regular English classes and on the Honor Roll. My dad got a job in construction, my mom cleaned houses. Three nights a week, my parents, my 9 year old sister and I used to pick up the garbage at a factory. On weekends, we collected bottles to recycle. Almost from the beginning my parents paid taxes, and two years after we arrived here, they applied for legal residency. Believe it or not, our application is still pending. That means my parents and sister and I can still be deported even though we did everything we were supposed to do to try to become legal.

They came here on a tourist visa, applied for citizenship, and ten years later are still in limbo. We need to acknowledge that the immigration bureaucracy is a large part of this problem.

And there is no indication that they were anything but hard working self supporting citizens the whole time. Stereotyping all latin Americans as free-loading welfare leeches just continues to cloud the issue.

B Moe on September 23, 2006 at 2:47 PM

Sorry Mr. Moe, but try your twist again. I read the story, which one were you filling parts in with?

They came here on a tourist visa

Within a year of my arrival, I was already in regular English classes and on the Honor Roll. My dad got a job in construction, my mom cleaned houses. Three nights a week, my parents, my 9 year old sister and I used to pick up the garbage at a factory. On weekends, we collected bottles to recycle.

Now, That’s a Heckuva Family Vacation, wouldn’t you say?

I don’t have the exact wording on a Tourist Visa Application, but I’d imagine there is a box or line reading

Length of Stay

in which the word Forever is not one of the choices.

Fweeeee.

TheSev on September 23, 2006 at 3:18 PM

B Moe on September 23, 2006 at 2:47 PM

My dearly esteemed friend, first they weren’t “citizens”, second, I would agree that not “ALL LATIN AMERICANS” are “Free-loading welfare leeches”, that however, is beside the point! The POINT is that THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THEM THAT ARE! It is silly of you to think that our Immigration and Naturalization laws have ANY RESPONSIBILTY TO BE FAIR! It is our prerogative whom we let in and when. Period. The aggreived alien doesn’t get a vote! THE LAW says that if you come here on a tourist visa and it RUNS OUT, you have to take your ILLEGAL butt home! You don’t get to hang out here, sucking the resources away from OUR PEOPLE, having anchor babies, until you get a response to your application!

They came here on a tourist visa, applied for citizenship, and ten years later are still in limbo.

BOO-HOO. Hand me a tissue, Tito! Their status after having a visa run out was not “limbo”, my friend. Their status was an Alien in need of taking his ass on home! The act of “applying” for something IN NO WAY IMPLIES THAT SAID APPLICATION SHALL BE GRANTED. So there was no reason for them to be here “ten years later”, they should have gone home and checked their mail.

Stereotyping all latin Americans as free-loading welfare leeches just continues to cloud the issue.

Perhaps you should stop reasoning like a liberal and get your head around a few facts. Here in California, HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOMS ARE CLOSING because of Illegal “hard working” , “no bill paying,” immigrants, so dry your weeping eyes Nancy boy.

Here are some other stats for you to consider, check this out…

Education. Based on estimates of the illegal immigrant population in Florida and documented costs of K-12 schooling, Floridians spend more than $1.5 billion annually on education for illegal immigrant children and for their U.S.-born siblings. About 8.7 percent of the K-12 public school students in Florida are children of illegal aliens.
Health Care. Taxpayer-funded, unreimbursed medical outlays for health care provided to the state’s illegal alien population amount to about $165 million a year.
Incarceration. The uncompensated cost of incarcerating illegal aliens in Florida’s state and county prisons amounts to about $155 million a year (not including local jail detention costs or related law enforcement and judicial expenditures or the monetary costs of the crimes that led to their incarceration).

Or maybe this’ll float your boat about all these “hard working” immigrants, this time in Illinois. Yeah that’s right, Illinois! MORE INFO HERE.

Today, criminal aliens account for over 29 percent of prisoners in Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities and a higher share of all federal prison inmates
2. These prisoners represent the fastest growing segment of the federal prison population. Over the past five years, an average of more than 72,000 aliens have been arrested annually on drug charges alone.
Despite the Border Patrol making over one million apprehensions last year, they estimate they miss two or more illegal bordercrossers for every apprehension.
According to the Illinois Governor’s Office, Illinois spends over $40 million just on the incarceration of criminal aliens. The cost to Florida’s judicial and correction system for criminal aliens was $73 million in 1993. In 1988, there were 5,500 illegal immigrants in California’s prisons. By fiscal year 1994- 1995, that is estimated to have increased to more than 18,000 illegal immigrants in state prisons—a three-fold increase. ( It’s GAZILLIONS NOW, BUDDY!)

California taxpayers have spent over a billion dollars in the last five years to keep these convicted felons in prison, and the FY 9495 cost of incarcerating these offenders exceeded $375 million.5 The federal government has begun to reimburse heavily alien-impacted states for some of the costs of illegal alien prisoners in their state prisons. For 1996, Congress appropriated $300 million for this program.

We have no responsiblity or obligation to let ANYONE into this country.People outside of this country have NO RIGHT to enter it. Entry is solely at the discretion of the owners and THAT’S US AMERICANS, PALLY! Try going to Japan, OR MEXICO , talking like, “I’m an Illegal and you gotta give me rights!” Your ass would be in JAIL so fast it’d make your head spin! Or didn’t you know that the Mexicans treat their illegal immigrants, the Guatemalans, like redhaired step children, allowing them neither rights nor priviledges or a daggone piece of bread!

AMERICANS in N.O. need help and economice opportunity ( Largely due to their own sloth at this point in time but I digress). If we’re gonna go on the hook for anyone who’s “made mistakes” shouldn’t it at least be for Americans? WHITE owned FARMS which are losing money due to “globalization” need our help. AMERICAN COAL MINERS who increasingly find themselves “automated” out of business or obsolete as the country moves (hopefully) to alternative energy sources, ARE GOING TO NEED A WHOLE LOT OF HELP in the years to come!!! AMERICANS in TRAILER PARKS need our help before we go giving IN STATE TUITION to some damned Illegals that don’t have enough respect for this country to at least sneek in and act sensibly. You’d think that being a THIEF, they’d at least come in here and actually be the HARD WORKING people that Bush lies about. But nooooo… they come in here, they get on welfare in HUGE numbers, they DON’T PAY THEIR DAMNED EMERGENCY ROOM BILLS causing HOSPITALS TO CLOSE, to the DETRIMENT OF AMERICAN CITIZENS!!!!! They are racists as well! Ever seen a black face cartoon on TELEMUNDO? Of course you have! As a Black Man of 44 yrs old, we just got the WHITE folks calmed down, I don’t want ANOTHER GROUP OF RACISTS for me to deal with! LMAO.

Race relations between blacks and whites have gotten much much better in this country, (Thank you Jesus), why the hell should I have to put up with a race of people who have another twenty words that mean, “NIGGER”?

There’s more to that story. The murdered police officer’s Chief of Police REFUSES to enforce immigration laws. Coverage on this story is up at Invading America as well as links to make official complaints to the Houston Police Department.

Hoping all of you can join in to voice your opinion to the Houston officials.

This Houston police chief is one of the most controversial
that the City of Houston gas ever had and needs to be sent back to Phoenix where he came from (or was perhaps, asked to leave from).

That makes them illegal for 10 years. Being a tourist doesn’t give you the right to citizenship. Being a tourist doesn’t give you the right to work here.

Being a tourist gives you the right to be deported if you overstay. We should confiscate their possessions on the way out, and auction them off to pay costs.
