Euphoric Reality has details. TThere seems to be some dispute as to whether the kids themselves made the pledge or whether a few adult volunteers were brought in to pledge while the kids stood by and watched.
Reminds me of the controversy over the course on Islam being offered in California schools. Harmless exercise in cultural awareness or nefarious means of backdoor indoctrination? You make the call!
Here’s Friday audio from KTRH radio’s Chris Baker show, which broke the story. Please note that the clip’s been edited slightly.

Thought the visual was going to be another “Virgin Mary” in a food product thing. Life is full of disappointment…

*displays sign saying “Welcome Mexicans”*
“I, for one, would like to welcome our new overlords.”
Bellicose Muse on September 20, 2006 at 11:46 AM
Well, whoever pledges allegiance to the Mexican flag certainly ought to be ineligible for U.S. citizenship.
NellE on September 20, 2006 at 12:17 PM
only liberals will pledge allegiance to the Mexican flag
Starblazer on September 20, 2006 at 12:26 PM
I believe as well that they should never be able to achieve US citizenship. I really don’t understand why President Bush is so gung ho on giving these people “a pathway to citizenship” I would like to see them given a pathway back to Mexico after they help to build the wall. As for jobs the Americans won’t do—-if I hear that one more time I am going to scream. Canada has a good system & perhaps it’s something we should look into.

I pledge alegance to Mexicican flag,
for poverty for everyone,
for unbridled crime,
for corrupt politicians,
and to have just a few rich families controlling everything in the country.
Yeeeaaah, dats da ticket.

Bellicose Muse– I was just reading the very same sentiment…

Kramer, that’s TODAY! They already do those crimes in our states. Each crime you mentioned in EVERY state in the union.
shooter on September 20, 2006 at 1:57 PM
When did liberals take over Texas? I had no idea.
honora on September 20, 2006 at 2:13 PM
Thats the truth Shooter!!!!
Too bad we are all so afraid of being labeled racist.
Well I’ll say it, “Majority of people being housed in our prisons and jails for crimes ranging from petty to major are illegal’s”
Yep they have no rights to be in our country but we the taxpayers still feed and house them.
So most of them happen to be Mexican and small percentages are from other spanish speaking villages.
FACT: MOST ILLEGALS ARE MEXICAN
Enough to show our first focus should be on illegal mexicans.
the other percentages aren’t even enough to build one house.
Well there, it’s been said.
Get over it ACLU.
There are more of us than there is of you.
Kramer on September 20, 2006 at 2:13 PM
OH I FORGOT ONE LAST THING!!!!!!!!!!
SPEAK ENGLISH YOU LAZY LAWBREAKING FOOLS.
Kramer on September 20, 2006 at 2:18 PM
Come on Shooter and Kramer, tell us how you REALLY feel.
And what do you expect? Hell, the school is mostly Hispanic and poor. Brazosport ISD is not known for its superior schools – the principal is teaching to his population. And do I think that saying a pledge to the Mexican flag is horrible? Absolutely. Am I surprised? Not a bit.
pullingmyhairout on September 20, 2006 at 2:52 PM
that principal will probably say that what they were doing was in line with “teaching about other cultures”, “multiculturalism” and other PC bullsh*t.
pullingmyhairout on September 20, 2006 at 2:54 PM
come on down to south texas. take a stroll through Austin. very liberal.
pullingmyhairout on September 20, 2006 at 2:55 PM
I heard the parent’s participated and it was a history lesson. I thought I heard that a parent read the pledge out loud not the kids. So I don’t know if this is blown out of proportion or what.
PMHO. Yup Austin is as Liberal as it comes. It is the San Francisco of Texas.
Drtuddle on September 20, 2006 at 3:02 PM
“The San Francisco of Texas”
As a native Texan, that makes me shudder. It’s so true, and so depressing.
Cary on September 20, 2006 at 3:44 PM
Well I live in Austin.
We are a Safe Haven Cesspool for vagrant illegals.
They recently built a building for Day labor workers to help them find work.
Most day’s I can go hours without hearing any english.
Reminder: Tejano music is for uneducated classless people.
Kramer on September 20, 2006 at 4:00 PM
ALSO-LEARN ENGLISH MORONS.
Kramer on September 20, 2006 at 4:01 PM
Sorry- Learn English, MORONS.
Kramer on September 20, 2006 at 4:01 PM
Time for my mandatory link to the counters that tally up how much money is going to illegals in our school system!
Watch the numbers tick by and weep.
NTWR on September 20, 2006 at 4:09 PM
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United Socialist states of Meximericanadiup.
One Angry Christian on September 20, 2006 at 4:36 PM
Many Austin Folks mistakingly think that everyone in Texas believes the way the Austinite majority does. They really thought Texas would not approve The amendment of the one man one woman = marriage. I wonder if Sam Houston ever thought Texas would have to define marriage? In Travis County(where Austin is located) voters opposed the Marriage Amendment 60 percent – 40 percent. But overall in Texas 77 percent favored Amendment while 23 percent opposed it. My Boss and relatives live in Austin and I hear that the homeless population is really bad. Austin might have inherited Dallas homeless since Mayor Laura kicked them out from under the I-45 bridge downtown. They need a Republican overhaul
Drtuddle on September 20, 2006 at 4:38 PM
Ahh, one of the many positive things illegals bring to our country…new forms of transportation!
NTWR on September 20, 2006 at 6:04 PM
Where’s the anger?
The other day everyone using this site was ready to start the tenth crusade because backward savages that live in other countries were acting out because of a speech given by the Pope. The anger was so rampant any voice of reason was useless. I know, I was trying to be that voice.
Foreign invaders, who want your conversion just as intensely as any Muslim, pledge allegiance to a Mexican flag in a school room no less and the mood is nearly moderate!
Just because Latinos have learned how to conquer us without explosions, using our own altruism to sneak in and suck our lifeblood instead of flying airplanes into buildings doesn’t negate the depth of the threat a highly nationalistic human flood truly poses.
I’m not sorry, the school would be forced to call the police, allegiance to a foreign flag will not happen in my presence, not in my country.
NOW it’s appropriate, where’s the anger? Damnit!
