[...] On another aside, they throw a lot of non-sequiturs into the mix. They have cops and lawyers commenting at various points that torture never works. On the one hand, this conflates the harsh but lawful methods discussed in the FM with torture. On the other hand, what gives lawyers and cops, who aren’t supposed to engage in anything other than non-coercive questioning, any insight on this issue? On the other other hand, the brutal reality is that torture may in fact sometimes work. Again, I’m not taking a stand on the legality and efficacy of particular controversial methods here; instead I’m pointing out that the glib, categorical discussion of interrogation that MSNBC indulges in is blatantly inaccurate.
It is interesting to read and express views here. The bottom line is that we have just a few days to do something effective.

Vote! Several states have early voting open now.

And even more effective - take a couple of months of cola or beer money and contribute a little to some important races out of our voting areas. I think some outside contributions helped John Thune retire Tom Daschel in the last election.

[...] I hear this a lot, but my personal experience as well as that of the folks who interrogated many Al Qaeda terrorists says otherwise. As a matter of fact our friend KSM got a good dose of some coercive interrogation and he gave chapter and verse on his compatriots, names, addresses, communication plans and plans for terrorist attacks. We used this info to arrest many terrorists and to stop attacks saving innocent lives. KSM while inconvenienced during the 2 or so minutes he was waterboarded, was none the worse for wear and we acted in a way perfectly consistent with the ideals of this country. Of the 14 high value prisoners interrogated with these methods, all broke, many before we even got to waterboarding. The ones that did lasted 30 or 40 seconds, with KSM winning a prize for going 2 and a half minutes. HotAir has video of ABC’s Brian Ross explaining how CIA interrogators confirmed the effectiveness of these techniques. More from the WSJ. The president’s plan was shameful.
[...] Thanks to ABC correspondent Brian Ross, we know that several high-level Al Qaeda members in U.S. custody broke down under expert interrogation - some lasting for mere seconds, none more than just over two minutes. In the process, they gave up valuable information leading to the arrest of several operative and the foiling of at least one major plot to blow up L.A.’s largest skyscraper. Thousands of lives were saved. [...]

Should have said:

SOMETIMES you have to choose: Scruples or Survival.
Sometimes you can't have both.

Nicely said, Pwhited. Jihad as "The Terminator"...he never stops coming at you, until you kill him completely, utterly, overwhelmingly, and finally dead. And consideriing he doesn't play by "human" rules, you don't much worry about HOW you do it.

"Pale Ebenezer thought it wrong to fight.
But Roaring Bill, who killed him, thought it right."

[...] UPDATE: Brought this post up from June 13 2005 because…well because this latest bit on ABC News proved me correct in declaring that torture works. Now we can well and truly laugh at the absurdity that is Senator Grandstand McCain. Sorry I have lost my respect for him after his theft of my 1st Amendment rights and his repeated Grandstands that put my family at risk. To say that Andrew Sullivan is irrelevent is redundant but finding out that torture does indeed save lives means that the next time he suggests not using torture he ante up his family as hostages to be sacrificed for his morality. Not real fond of those who feel like it is ok to sacrifice others so they can sleep well at night. But more on that below. [...]
