Arizona 9/11 memorial remembers U.S. airstrike on civilians, suggests that Bush knew

I didn’t quite believe this when Curt from Flopping Aces e-mailed it to me, but Espresso Pundit’s been to the scene of the crime and returned with photos. Go see.
Say this for the Phelps klan: when they go to piss on someone’s grave, they do it when the deceased’s family is there and can respond. Slipping “why do they hate us” messages into a memorial five years later is more akin to what the charming folks in Europe do when they spray paint swastikas on Jewish tombstones.
As for the crescent-ish shape, unless you can prove with a protractor and compass that the bisector points within 91.1 degress of Mecca, I don’t want to hear about it.

Who paid for this trash?
bopbottle on September 20, 2006 at 3:16 PM
Come on, it’s only a few square meters of a memorial.
A single spray can will do the job.
Niko on September 20, 2006 at 3:19 PM
Their construction images clearly shows a crescent internal structure.
Terp Mole on September 20, 2006 at 3:22 PM
if they’d just make it a square, the problem would be solved.

They’ve also designed curriculum plans to indoctrinate K-12 kids who visit for field trips. Some excerpts;

And take a good hard look at the dude to the right. Looks like a terrorist if you ask me.

Wow, what a great memorial….FOR ME TO POOP ON!
I’ve been meaning to visit some friends in AZ, I guess I’ll have to make a pit stop at this piece of trash and add my #2 cents.

Tolerance, political correctness, Geneva Convention and Miranda rights for pigs who want to kill us…
We’ve got to be in end times, folks.
Got to be…

One chief corporate sponsor was Sleep America. Their slogan?
Naturally, their logo is… a crescent moon.
/wishing I were kidding

Looking at that curriculum makes me so glad I’m not a school kid, and so sorry for them all. The assumptions that their biases and racism have to be corrected, and that their country has victimized the world, and their government is evil toward the innocent and a threat to themselves…If I was in high school today, I’d be depressed, and probably angry and resentful toward my re-educators. If I could drop out, I would. Why be subjected to this mental abuse? These people detest religious moralists, but they have a much more oppressive, rigid, shaming and shunning system in place than the Puritans ever did.

NTWR when you go there have one for me.
I am speechless.
This does not compute.
These people have lost America and do not know how to find it.

I can’t really think of anything particulary useful or entertaining to say about this outrage, but must register my disdain against those that designed and approved this thing.
Glad I’m no longer an Arizona taxpayer.

I think this could and should make great campaign ads for any real republicans running in AZ elections for some time to come.

I checked the orientation of this crescent and was able to pretty much verify that it is NOT oriented towards Mecca. It seems that a person facing into the Arizona crescent-y memorial is facing due north, whereas the direction to Mecca from Phoenix is 29.7 degrees clockwise from north.
In contrast, a person facing directly into the Flight 93 memorial’s giant Crescent/Bowl of Embrace is facing 53.4 degrees clockwise from north, compared to a Mecca-direction from the crash-site of 55.2 degrees from north.
Crescent architect Paul Murdoch verifies that this inexact Mecca orientation is intentional by repeating it exactly in the huge array of crescents of trees that surround the Flight 93 memorial’s Tower of Voices minaret. (See post here.)
The Crescent/Bowl of embrace also includes an exact Mecca orientation (also repeated in the Tower of Voices array), and it is still on track to be built.
Allah’s comment about my analyses (his “protractor and compass” link) is well intended, but ignorant. He seems to have missed my explanation as to why the addition of a further arc of trees beyond the original crescent does nothing to alter the presence or integrity of the original crescent. This is because the original crescent constitutes a mihrab, the central feature around which every mosque is built. Think of the Crescent memorial as a giant Muslim prayer rug, laid out to point the direction to Mecca.
The Bowl of Embrace redesign adds a segment of trees behind this giant prayer rug, but as ought to be obvious to everyone, a prayer rug is unaffected by whether it has trees behind it. The key fact is that all of the defining features of the original crescent remain intact exactly as originally designed. The Bowl of Embrace is still a giant mihrab. Not only will it be the world’s largest most several times over (and there are 2 truly gigantic mosques in Saudia Arabia) but it is also explicitly a terrorist-memorial mosque, as anyone who looks at my analyses can easily verify.
Allah’s grounds for dismissing the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent is that having to get out a protractor and actually plot the orientation sounds to loose-change-y to him (as if the loose-change idiots actually ever verified anything). Sorry Allah, but the fact is that Muslims DO calculate the direction to Mecca, whether you think it sounds loose-change-y or not.
There are conspiracy nuts, and there are anti-conspiracy-nuts. Both exhibit the same mental process. Instead of following reason and evidence, they start with their presumptions, then pick and choose what to pay attention to according to whether it fits.
Of course Allah is not one of these, but he has been careless here. Let’s just say, I look forward to the horrified surprise on his face when Murdoch’s terrorist-memorial mosque is fully exposed, along with all the anti-conspiracy-nuts at the Memorial Project who have allowed him to get so far. Here is your warning AllahPundit: I am going to have a chuckle at your expense.
