Ready to rumble: Bush, Ahmadinejad to address UN

The president speaks at 11:30, Mike Wallace’s boyfriend goes on at 6:45. There was a slight chance they’d run into each other at the VIP luncheon, but Ahmadinejad’s decided not to attend. Why? Because they’re serving hard liquor.
You can watch the festivities live at the UN website. I’m sure we’ll have video highlights later.
MM, wisely, is keeping her expectations low. Bush is likely to push for sanctions on Iran; Chirac, who follows him, is likely to push back. As for “Mahdi,” expect the usual unique cocktail of equal parts new-age peace and love talk, condemnation of the “real terrorists” and colonialist occupiers, and assertions that “nuclear energy is our inalienable right.” Time magazine’s interview with him should give you a taste, as will the transcript of his speech at the UN last year.
He’s also been invited to speak to the Council of Foreign Relations, but whether and when that’ll happen, who’ll be there, and if there’ll be video or a transcript remains to be seen.
If you’re wondering who’s likely to be more warmly received by the General Assembly, read this short summary of key passages in the final declaration by the “non-aligned movement” this past weekend. Nothing new, alas.

Castro looks like death warmed over (but then he always has). This just supports the adage, only the good die young (and evil lives to be 182 each, Castro, Carter, Arafat et al)

Hugo is really into the man-hug. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but he always seems to be a little too enthusiastic to embrace his fellow leaders.

He is skipping because they are serving hard liquor? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! He thinks we buy that excuse?

Bush should shock the world today by extending an olive branch with Iran.
He should offer to trade 100,000 of the more virulent anti-U.S. left-wingers in this country with 100,000 of the democracy loving “progressives” in his country.

Don’t expect bells and whistles from Bush anymore.
Since 9-11, his balls have not only shrunken,
but have rusted.

I love it. At last, written justification for why we need to get the hell out of the U.N., and evict them from New York.

Nonaligned with whom? Used to be, in theory, with either the West or the Commie world. What’s it now?

Is Chavez a Muslim, too?

All we need is a picture of N. Korea’s glue sniffing, Doctor Evil wannabe Kim. That would really make it all worthwhile.
Also, I’m wondering if Chirac is going to plant a French kiss on the Persian Hitler (I’m sure he will in his speech).

This guy (Ahmadinejad) always looks like he got his suit at Goodwill. Would this were his only negative trait.

Hug? Looks more like Admadinejad is using Chavez as a human sheild.

Who’s that? Annan shaking the hand of the reaper in a cocktail jacket?
…and Mr. Lilliput and Gargantua?
