Howard tells Aussie Muslims: Get over it
posted at 1:19 pm on September 19, 2006 by Allahpundit
In case you didn’t know, Australia will be playing the fantasy role for conservatives in the next presidential election that Canada played for liberals in the last one.
He says it’s time to “move on”:
Muslims are “perfectly entitled” to criticise the Pope for linking Islam with evil and violence, but John Howard wants them to “move on”.
The Prime Minister said last night he was “disappointed” and “exasperated” that “whenever the Pope says something (it) provokes demonstrations”…
“It’s a strange form of restraint to respond to words of disagreement with demonstrations and threats of violence,” he said…
Mr Howard sought to make a distinction between the Christian and Islamic faiths. A “common thread” in modern terror attacks was that their perpetrators “claim the authority of Allah”.
“I don’t at the moment note groups killing people and invoking the authority of the Catholic Church. That’s the difference,” he said. “If Catholics rioted every time people attacked the Catholic Church, you would have riots on a very regular basis.
Article II, section 1, clause 5, baby. We can get it repealed. That would make Jennifer Granholm, who was born in Canada, eligible for the Dems and JH (and Schwarzenegger) eligible for us. We can make it happen.
More from Aussie Cardinal George Pell:
Pell complained that Australia’s mufti Sheik Al Hilali and the head of Prime Minister John Howard’s Muslim Reference Group, Ameer Ali, had reacted in a “typical and unhelpful” way to the pope’s comments.
“It is always someone elses fault, and issues touching on the nature of Islam are ignored,” the cardinal said.
Qadaffi’s son offers a way out. No word yet on whether it’ll be incorporated into … the musical. Meanwhile, Confederate Yankee notes that the Islamist nut in Britain who called for the Pope’s execution is a “reformed” reprobate. You don’t say.
Update: Once more, with feeling.
Update: Follow the Howard link and you’ll find Sheikh Taj Din al-Hilali, described there as “Australia’s Islamic leader,” dismissing Howard’s comments as a “cheap shot.”
The good sheikh also happens to think the Holocaust is “a Zionist lie.”

I’d rather have Tony Blair. Plus, he’ll be on the market again next year.

Arnold for President? I hope you are kidding. What’s next Kofi Annan for Senate?
Theworldisnotenough on September 19, 2006 at 1:28 PM
There are allies, and then there are all lies.
Aussies compared to the French, is all I’m saying.
fogw on September 19, 2006 at 1:35 PM
That should do it.
That being said, the Aussies seems to be the only straight-talkers out there these days..even the Texans have caved to the Jihadis

I want Howard to be President of the United States!
Defector01 on September 19, 2006 at 1:39 PM
As I live in California, I can assure you that the notion of Schwarzenegger being eligible for the Presidency shocks and horrifies me. He has proven to be the RINOest of RINOs and a massive dissappointment to anyone with even the slightest conservative leanings.

Howard has always been pretty good about telling it like it is. Glad to see him continue that here.

Compare Howard’s statements to Bush at the UN today:
What perversion?
Full transcript here.
Valiant on September 19, 2006 at 1:55 PM
I really like Howard and wish Bush would be as blunt. These radical Muslims have a strong public relations campaign going their way: the MSM, Democrats, and socialists all support them by opposing everything conservatives (the only ones willing to fight the terrorists) do. Therefore, it is time to be more blunt to get the message across.
Cardinal Pell of Australia gave the commencement speech at Christendom College in Virginia in May. Here is an excerpt:

It seems like Australia has been ahead of the curve for a while now.
I pray these brave souls don’t get martyred.

I wish we had a Howard here. Clearly speaking the truth would do so much to ensure victory for us.
Iblis on September 19, 2006 at 2:49 PM
The man and his chutzpah are refreshing, to say the least.
I like how he delivers the message without flower BS.

I live in the Peoples Repulik of Kahleeforyva too and believe me, Arnolito Greenpeace Schwarzengomez is a horrible choice for pres. Ralph!
How come the Aussies get to say things like that and we don’t? I mean it’s just not fair!
Hey Arnolito, How does Fabian like living in the Gov. mansion?
We coulda had a real Republican.

“I’d rather have Tony Blair.”
Tony Blair, as Prime Minister, is a good ally of the United States in the GWOT. This is certainly true.
HOWEVER, AS A POLITICIAN, Blair supports gun confiscation, the ban on all hunting in the UK, and criminalizing British homeowners who resist home invaders. Under Blair and his party, violent crime surpassed the United States in almost every catagory, on a per capita basis.
Blair’s political liberalism would make him unnacceptable to most conservatives and libertarians.
“I want Howard to be President of the United States!”
Howard is another gun grabber and is the author of Australia’s nation-wide gun ban, which was implemented about 10 years ago after a shooting incident in Port Arthur, Tasmania in 1996. It is illegal to own any semi-automatic firearm in Australia, and what is still “legal” is heavily regulated, including registration and storage.
Since the Australia gun ban, violent crime has also increased over there, proving (as in the UK) that criminals thrive in an population that is prohibited from owning firearms.
Rebecca Peters, Director of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) – a UN NGO dedicated to banning private ownership of firearms world wide, and the driving force behind the recent Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms, along with George Soros - is a close personal ally of Howard.
She, with Howard, was responsible for Australia’s gun law and wishes to extend it to the United States via the UN.
Howard, clearly another good ally of the United States in the GWOT, would, like Blair, be out of touch with most conservatives and libertarians due to his politics.
Arnold Schwarzenegger supports gun control (Brady Law, AW Ban, closing the so-called “gun show loophole”). Also, Arnold opposes offshore driling for oil.
Sorry, a gun-grabbing, opponent of offshore drilling is not whom I would choose as President.
Fortunately, I don’t have to, as the Constitution makes it impossible for these three from running.
Further, if we amend the Constitution to allow foreign born, guess who would be the first to jump at it? Guess who would have the resources to buy the Democratic nomination using his personal checkbook?
George Soros.
No thanks.
I like the Consitution as it is.
georgej on September 19, 2006 at 3:16 PM
Howard. Australian for “Badass.”
(said in Foster’s beer commercial accent)
BirdEye on September 19, 2006 at 3:37 PM
I agree georgej, even though this prevented Ayn Rand, and prevents C. Hitchens and myself from running. Good thing :)
Now, the thought of Soros – gruesome!
I always loved it when Bob Hope, who was born in England, said “I hate it that I can’t run for President, but KISS can”.
The stars of Mr. Schwarzenegger and Ms. Granholm have faded enough that the ‘drive’ for that change is dimmed, if not completely out.
Entelechy on September 19, 2006 at 3:47 PM
But…I forgot Mr. Mark Steyn…now I can’t stop thinking some more about this…
Entelechy on September 19, 2006 at 3:49 PM
anyone who supports changing the Constitution so aRnold the BilderBorg can run for President is in serious need of either a lot more libations or a complete cut-off of same.
The SchwarzKennedy has presided over the largest ramp-up in California state spending and gay “rights” advancement ever witnessed in any state in this nation in recent history… not to mention his pending signature of the first state legislation embracing Kyoto lite, all for the “common good and the children”, of course…
What next, Musharraf/Ahmedinejad on the GOP ticket in ’08?
I’d put a sarcasm off tag in, but why when some others don’t seem to see any need for it. ;-)
normsrevenge on September 19, 2006 at 4:46 PM
Sorry, but as much as I admire Mr. Howard’s stand on the militancy of Islam, I don’t want him as our President.
Has anyone looked at his stand on, just for instance, Gun Control?
And Aaaarrrnold you can keep in California forever, but not in my White House. He’s a good RINO, but a Rino nonetheless.
And recall what happened to the last Country that let an Austrian become a citizen and then lead their Government, if you will. (Oops!!!!)
I just want a real Republican back. If we can find one. I’ve got my lantern out and am wandering around searching high and low for one. But as fine as I think his statements to the Moslem community in Australia are, Mr. Howard wouldn’t fill the bill here, I fear.
jefferson101 on September 19, 2006 at 6:03 PM
P.M. Howard is a great ally, we need him right where he is. Also, with P.M. Harper of Canuckistan, there’s hope after all for our neighbors to the north. P.M. Blair is from the Labour Party, the Brit’s version of our dhimmicrats. It’s amazing that he’s been such a strong ally, his party, well they’re not such good allies.

Much as I like the Aussies, I heard the best argument against allowing foreign born citizens to become President from Geraldine Ferraro, the former Democratic Vice Presidential candidate.
Not her exact words, but her story was of her parents from Italy. In WWII the allies had to bomb Italy. Coming from Italy, with close family still there, her mother had a reluctance, a disagreement with bombing the region, a reluctance that Ferraro said an American citizen would not have. She is right.
She said it much better than I, but she changed my mind with her explanation. There is a different mindset in someone born here, and there is only one set of loyalties. We have to entrust the defense of our nation to someone with a single loyalty. it is not an argument against the heart, but an argument for the mind.
You cannot help your heart, and your loves, but we need to have someone free of this duality. Any other job, ok. But not the supreme commander encharged with our survival.
Darn good argument and incredibly honest. I will always thank Ferraro for showing me the reason for this constitutional restriction.
I guess Mexican flags raised over American High Schools might be another reason.
Pell is a great speaker. He has an interview at the EWTN website archives that speaks of islam and the West.
