George Allen: As a matter of fact, I am Jewish

Just posted at Allen HQ:
I was raised as a Christian and my mother was raised as a Christian. And I embrace and take great pride in every aspect of my diverse heritage, including my Lumbroso family line’s Jewish heritage, which I learned about from a recent magazine article and my mother confirmed…
Some may find it odd that I have not probed deeply into the details of my family history, but it’s a fact. We in the Allen household were simply taught that what matters is a person’s character, integrity, effort, and performance – not race, gender, ethnicity or religion. And so whenever we would ask my mother through the years about our family background on her side, the answer always was, ‘Who cares about that?’
Dean Barnett, himself a member of the tribe, has written a trilogy of outrage on this subject directed respectively at (a) the dopey reporter who took such an unusually intent interest in when and whether the Senator’s mother had ceased being a Jew, (b) Olbermann manque Andrew Sullivan, who attributed Barnett’s disgust at the reporter’s question to some phantom fear that Jew-hatin’ southern conservatives would turn on Allen once they knew the truth, and (c) Jim Webb’s nutroots coordinator, Lowell Feld, who plopped out the filthiest bit of ethnic demagoguery you’ll see all day over at, where else, the Daily Kos. Note in particular Feld’s references to Allen by his middle name, Felix.
Expect plenty more filthy demagoguery from the left tomorrow on this, beginning with why Allen didn’t cop to his mother’s religious roots yesterday at the debate if he knew. Privacy, it seems, is a privilege reserved for Bill Clinton.

ONLY, for Bill Clinton, our friend, only, you should know…and only to liberal associates of his. Equality demanded and lived is for the foolish masses!

What George Allen really needs now is a lesbian daughter his opponent can pick on.

Yannow….if my beloved South is such a damned backwoods-hillbilly, cross-burnin’ racist, you-gots-a-puuurrty-mouth, anti-semitic place to live….then why do so many blue-bellied, liberal, yankee scum-suckers keep movin’ there?
I mean…seein’ as how the blue state north is supposed to be such a freakin’ workers paradise ‘n all.

Who on earth gave that woman a microphone? Is MSNBC looking for someone to replace Mattspews or Olberdud — I think they have a potential candidate here!

Allen’s story makes sense to me.
His mom is a francophone. She is part French. The French part may have been battling the non-French Jewish part for dominance. She couldnt very well send her French half to Devil’s Island. The only hope was to lay low and hope the French side would calm down.
Here is America she could be free to have two sided conversations with herself on the subway ot 3:00 A.M. and not get arrested. It’s a win-win.
I wish Allen all the best.
We have some blanks in our family tree too, but I think it is more related to murder-one.
I upset some relatives with my theory that I have Neanderthal blood in my veins. For me it is a matter of pride, like the Last of the Mohicans. They can’t see it my way. It has to be a recessive trait as none of my siblings have the bony brow, long head, short neck, and barrel chest. Unless I was swapped at the hospital. That’s possible in Detroit. We don’t get the right orders at fast food very often either.

The treatment of Chelsey vs the treatment of the Bush daughters confirms your point. Chelsey was “HANDS OFF”…but the Bush girls are “FAIR GAME”…equality be damned indeed!

BTW, UGLY AMERICAN..I share your sentiments and comments COMPLETELY!

Wait…George Allen’s mother is part French?
I’m not a racist, but…I may have to reconsider my support.

Just like we already knew, liberals are so rabid to win that they are willing to sink to any level.
That’s OK let’em make asses of themselves.

Man, I thought he seemed crafty. I guess that explains why he got the memo to stay away from the WTC on 9/11.
(Countdown to the nutroots retroactively labeling him part of the “neocon cabal” in 1…2…3…)

I’ve read in some quarters that some can’t believe Allen got to be an adult without knowing of his grandfather’s “Jewishness”
I know a man who had no clue to his family’s Jewish heritage until his paternal grandmother passed and he found himself at a Jewish funeral. That branch, Russian Jews, had fled from both pogroms and Nazis, made it to the US, changed their name and raised their children Christian because they had been so devastated by personal tragedy they wanted to “hide.”
Darleen on September 20, 2006 at 2:23 AM
What about old Madeline Halfbright? Wasn’t she a Jew who was raised as a Christian so her family wouldn’t be rounded up during the Nazi times?
Catie96706 on September 20, 2006 at 2:48 AM
Well, it might shock some Yankees to find out that Southern fundamentalist Christians (maybe not all, but a huge fraction) =love= Jews, and I don’t mean because they love trying to convert them (they love converting Catholics, too, but don’t particularly like us). Maybe in the 1950s, these groups were not friendly to Jews, but they are positively philo-semitic, especially compared to your traditional Northeastern WASPs (and now generic liberal secularists).
Heck, I’ve got at least two older family members who keep insisting that a slightly obscure last name means that we’ve got Jewish ancestors in recent history. Sorry, Grandma, but that name is just Welsh. Perhaps there are some Welsh Jews from the 1700s we don’t know about, but they’re definitely not middle-eastern Jews. Genealogy in my Southern branch seems to be an exercise in finding if we’re related to any aristocracy, Jews, or American Founding Fathers.
Seriously, a Christian guy with somewhat recent Jewish forbears has got a lot of identity plus points with the fundies. It would have been more to the point to bring up the Frenchness, not the Jewishness. But no, some people think their prejudices are shared by the masses, and that the Jewishness is a negative and Frenchness a plus. They really ought to run more focus groups.

Seriously….. the Left confuses me….

I’m 38. My parents never spoke of their family. I have only met my grandmother on my fathers side twice that I can remember, and never on my mothers. All I know is that my moms family came from canada, and my dads from the azores.
(both parents were first generation americans)
I find it extremely believable that a man can grow into adulthood and NOT know about his families past.
To be honest, its not that important. Unless of course you want to start tattoing numbersd on the arms of all Jews, at birth. You know, to “keep track of them…”
Seriously, WTF does it matter that some of Allens forbearers believed in a specific religeouse tenant? Allens right, their are a lot more important issues to be talking about. Instead of wasting space in the media on his ancestry. perhaps we should pay more attention to world affairs.
Wyrd on September 20, 2006 at 7:58 AM
Not only is he Jewish, his father has a pigskin heritage. Forget the Kos/Islamofascist vote.
JammieWearingFool on September 20, 2006 at 7:59 AM
The nutroots’ frustration is that they need to throw out all the “Allen is a redneck racist” placards and make up a load of “Neocon/Israel Lobby Lapdog” ones.
Definitely a setback.

I must confess that, although I am a cradle Christian, my family history includes Druids. Oh, dear…

There’s more about Clinton’s private life (indeed private parts) you want/need to know?? Really?? Beyond that, you have a long, long, long, long, long row to hoe to equate with liberal with anti-Semitism. Did I mention long?
honora on September 20, 2006 at 8:28 AM
Who gives a damn about his ancestry? This is America, last time I knew, and ancestry isn’t important here the way it is in Europe & other places.
Personally I have never understood anti-Semitism: why should people hate Jewish people cause they’re Jewish???
Especially some so called “Christians”- after all Jesus was born to Jewish parents. As for the Muslims, well they hate everybody.

It boils down to this:
Embracing a member of the massive Jewish conspiracy – BAD
Conspiring to have your member embraced by a vast massive Jewish intern. – OK
Thank you, I’ll be here the whole week.

Don’t mind me. I just come here to improve my vocabulary.

One thing I’ve been wondering. Do any of these things came out when he ran for governor (and won)? Did any of these things came out the first time he ran for the Senate?
If it never did, it seems to me there are some desperate folks out there trying to get Allen on something.

The question:
One of the panelists, a woman named Peggy Fox, asked Allen, “It has been reported your grandfather Felix, whom you were given your middle name for, was Jewish. Could you please tell us whether your forebears include Jews and, if so, at which point Jewish identity might have ended?”
What if that c-u-next-tuesday said this, to Harry Reid, for example: “It has been reported your grandfather Leroy, whom you were given your middle name for, was Black. Could you please tell us whether your forebears include Blacks and, if so, at which point Black identity might have ended?”
Does anyone doubt that the NAACP, and the poverty pimps, Jackson, Sharpton, and Farrakhan would be all over this claiming racism and demanding an apology??? That the liberals would whine and seethe. That the ACLU would threaten litigation. That the moderator MIGHT ACTUALLY moderate and condemn the questioner. That the NYT would do a puff piece on Reid and he tough life. Anyone??? Anyone??? Bueller??? Bueller???
Andy in Agoura Hills on September 20, 2006 at 1:31 PM
Holy crap! Harry Reid is part black??!!?? Well, I’m pretty sure his heart is…..
